News: No More Water Taxi to Shea
By Matthew Cerrone - Mar 27, 2008 4:13 pm

The New York Water Taxi will not be running the Mets Express to Shea Stadium this season.

According to a recent e-mail from a fan who is quite upset by this news, the onboard, dockside cafe would air SNY on TV while offering a drink special as the ferry sailed to Shea Stadium.

my guess is that this may has something to do with the contrsuction at Citi Field, because, from what i had heard, this form of transportation had been a huge success for every one involved…it also sounds like it was probably a ton of fun

It also seemed crazy expensive(not that going to a game isn’t in general) I wonder if they just weren’t getting a lot of people using the taxi to get to Shea.

    • hsimms says:

It’s expensive only if you don’t consider the entertainment factor.

water taxi rocked. this is an outrage. we need to get this thing back online… i just shot an email out to: ‘info@nywatertaxi.com’ …. need to get this resurrected!

The boat to the game was amazing. twenty bucks for a round tripper featuring a fully stocked bar, beautiful views of Rikers Isle. and LaGuardia. Not to mention the scene at little-known Pete’s Backyard (a trailer home on the water taxi dock) cooking up frozen burgers and $2 bud heavys. It was the perfect prelude to an evening game and the best way to get back to nyc after an Endy walk-off drag bunt…
This is such a bad omen. bring back the boat!

It is a lot of fun, weather permitting. The only downsides -

takes longer than any mode of transportation except walking

just one boat back 20 minutes after last pitch

Phil fans coming across the Verrazano and parking at the Brooklyn terminal crowding the boat by the time it reaches Manhattan.

    Matt,

Please refrain from posts bashing Verducci of SI’s grammar, and M&MD’s generally idiocracy, before you take the time to run a spell check on your posts. I love your blog, but please, install a spellcheck plugin for wordpress before throwing a few jabs.

    • Johan Santana says:

BTW, I’m not trying to go at you, so erase the comment – I should have emailed it to you, I just don’t want to see you get bashed somewhere for something dumb like a spelling error in retribution for a comment you made, know what I mean?

      • UpperDeckDweller says:

Wow…way to stick to your guns there Johan.

Its ok to call a guy out once in a while…im sure matt got a kick out of it, you didnt need to send that little apology post.

I hope the real Johan has bigger balls than you.

      • Lloyd Bonafide says:

Why shouldn’t he be bashed? This blog is always poorly written. He has no ground to stand on in attacking other people the way he did.

        sincerely,

    “contrsuction”?

You attack other writers for their grammar and yet you can’t run a simple spell-check?

That glass house of yours is not the safest place to be launching rocks.

    sincerely,
    Lloyd Bonafide
