According to the Mike Vaccaro in the New York Post, after a long off-season, the time has finally come for the Mets to try and put 2007 behind them.
Carlos Delgado, as quoted by Newsday:
“Instead of crying or whining or complaining about what happened last year, I think we’re ready to move forward.”
…i am super giddy to see this team take the field…what’s more, i can’t wait to see how they react to being back at it, together, with last season behind them, and the opportunity to finally move forward…or, will they stumble, panic and think, ‘here we go again.’…we’ll know soon enough…
As noted yesterday, Ruben Gotay has been put on waivers.
News of Gotay’s fate should likely trickle in later
today.
…i am still holding out hope that the little guy gets ignored, so he ends up back in the Mets minor league system, because i still believe he can be a good player for this club…
In the Bergen Record, Steve Popper writes: “Gotay sat alone in the clubhouse with tears in his eyes as he made phone calls to family and to his agent, trying to find out what is next.”
For more on Gotay’s sad day, read the Journal News.
Meanwhile, as of now, the final spot on the bench will either be Brady Clark or Fernando Tatis.
…the increased buzz from St. Lucie – and physical evidence, such as new-york bound luggage from the team – seems to be that tatis has the edge because he is more versatile…
For more on Tatis, who started at third base yesterday, read Bart Hubbuch’s report in the New York Post.

Orlando Hernandez and Mike Pelfrey are both scheduled to pitch this afternoon in Fort Lauderdale against the Orioles.
…the buzz from St. Lucie seems to be that if el duque can get through today’s start without getting rocked or injured, regardless of what pelfrey does, the fifth starter spot will likely go to el duque…which is wise…like i had said, i feel pelfrey needs more work, and el duque has earned the right to perform…
…once el duque stumbles or hurts
himself, then pelfrey can step in as he will have had time to get his act together in New Orleans…
For more on the roster battle, read David Lennon in Newsday; and to directly hear from Hernandez, who is not worried, and to hear from Pelfrey, who thinks Hernandez has the edge, read the Bergen Record.
