Read: It’s 2008, not 2007
By Matthew Cerrone - Mar 28, 2008 10:16 am

According to the Mike Vaccaro in the New York Post, after a long off-season, the time has finally come for the Mets to try and put 2007 behind them.

Carlos Delgado, as quoted by Newsday:

“Instead of crying or whining or complaining about what happened last year, I think we’re ready to move forward.”

…i am super giddy to see this team take the field…what’s more, i can’t wait to see how they react to being back at it, together, with last season behind them, and the opportunity to finally move forward…or, will they stumble, panic and think, ‘here we go again.’…we’ll know soon enough

Hopefully Delgado won’t get too bored this year…

      delagado’s talk is cheap

    • HOFMets57 says:

That’s what I’m worried about. Matt, obviously regards Carlos’ quote as saying, ‘we’re done with 2007 and we’re preparing to go to war in 2008.’ I’m afraid what Carlos is REALLY saying is, ’stop bothering me about last year. nothing’s wrong.’

Delgado has to take it upon himself, seeing as how he’s one of the oldest most well-traveled veterans on the team to ‘go to war.’ Sure this is a game, but it’s also a PRIVILEGE to play a kid’s game for $millions.

      • QnsNative718 says:

Delgado is a veteran but he is no leader…

      • beltran the warrior says:

it’s not a privelege. it’s not like a major league roster spot is just handed out like free lunch at public school. these guys work harder than most people to even get a shot at the show and have to work harder to keep it. i hate that argument with a passion as it comes off as being rife with envy.

      Super giddy?

  2. metsfan941 says:

I know I am pumped more for this season than any other season before, In my opinion it really is now or never, I hope they hold nothing back, i know i wont. No more superstitions during games, (they clearly did not work last year) lets just go out and win

  3. BaltimoreMets says:

I’m confident that this team is going to win 95-100 games as long as the top 4 starters and the main cogs in the lineup stay healthy. There aren’t many teams that can match our rotation at the top and can start a lineup with Reyes, Wright, and Beltran. I’ll take my chances with that crew.

  4. VCarver says:

Disagree with Howard. If the Mets start out slowly, even terribly, I can’t foresee any scenario where Willie’s job is in jeopardy. And if they eventually fail to make the playoffs due to severe under-performance by Delgado and Alou and El Duque, then Willie shouldn’t be on the hot seat either. Omar should be.

Only if everyone remains relatively healthy and performs up to par and they fail to make the playoffs should they consider firing Willie.

    • Jova1931 says:

If Omar goes you can expect Willie to follow (being fired).

    • extrawhitemeat says:

Wow.. I couldn’t disagree with you more VCarter… Willie should already be fired.. you don’t fail in a job the way he did… and still keep it.

      He should already be gone….

      • rosemarymets says:

amen to that….willie doesnt like to play anyone unless they are as boring as milquetoast (how the hell do you spell that) and is at least 35 years old…and we know where he comes from and that does not please me one bit…

  5. saltzy007 says:

Man, I cant wait for Monday afternoon either….It really has a chance to be a memorable season….with the end of Shea, the Phils rivalry, the Braves still lingering

Can I just state for the record that as a fan base I think we took last year pretty well. Everyone always gives Mets fans crap for being so pessimistic and yadda yadda. Fine, say whatever you will. I take a ‘Cauiously Optimistic’ approach. Yeah, maybe it makes me sound like a whiny b*tch al the time, but all I’m doing is trying so spot weaknesses before they actally happen on the field. It makes dealing with what happened last year that much easier. Either way, in the last 3 months I think you could count the references to ‘the collapse’ on this site on one hand. It is over, I REALLY hope they learned their lesson, and I CANNOT wait for this thing to start already!….

  6. C Dubb says:

Completely unimportant, but I wonder what song they’ll play at Shea after each win this season. They can’t go with “Takin’ Care of Business” three years in a row, can they??

  7. Jova1931 says:

I’m confident that they’ll do fine.
The only thing that worries me is something that worried me in early Sept. of last year, which is the fact that in the three years under Randolph, the Mets have been horrible in September. If that doesn’t change this year it could really hurt them.

  8. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i just need baseball season to start (in america) and get that first W out of the way. im sick of turning on sportscenter and watching stephen a smith yell at me about why andrew bynum could be the difference maker in the lakers making a run for the title.

    • saltzy007 says:

I agree we need to get the ‘W’ out of the way in America….only 298 more days…

      Oh, you mean Win…gotcha….my bad….

  9. FBones24 says:

    Yawnnnn…

    • MrMetsLuvChild says:

The Braves are actually a very interesting team, they have potentially a very, very good starting rotation and if they stay healthy, should score runs. The other thing is it’s almost as if everyone is making this a two team race so it’s almost a “no lose” situation for them. Your right they scare me too.

      • FBones24 says:

Thanks for waking me up…I was bored. I think you meant that comment for sincekindergarten.

  10. anditsouttahere says:

they better not panic, they are professionals and they have johan santana now. put the champagne on ice

    • FBones24 says:

Ahhhh yes, champagne. When we sip a little champagne later on, it’ll be a little sweeter.

  11. rubyrubes76 says:

I love how the Braves and even some of our fans are playing the whole Braves disrespect card when at least 4 prominent National baseball writers have tabbed them as NL East favorites: Gammons, Olney, Stark and Rosenthal. They have just as much to lose as anyone else.

    • ASod1975 says:

Off topic a bit, but if Fernando Tatis really is going to be the Mets’ last option on the bench, why not look into Ryan Freel of the Reds. I was just on mlbtraderumors.com and it said the Reds are shopping Freel, with the Twins and Phillies two teams showing interest. Freel’s a righty bat who is more versatile than Tatis, has speed, a little pop and is a gritty, determined player. Would like to see the Mets get a guy like this (or Murton) since I’m lukewarm at best on having Tatis on the team.

  12. williebeamen9er says:

I know this is pretty random but one thing that hasnt been mentioned that bothers me is that nobody has said how much they want to take out there frustration one last years collapse. I hope they pound out every1 they face like they did in 06′.
