By Jordan Zakarin - Apr 1, 2008 12:30 pm

The Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs and Double-A Binghamton Mets have announced their rosters for 2008.

The Zephyrs will have a veteran team, led by 3B Fernando Tatis and RHPs Tony Armas and Nelson Figueroa.

SS Anderson Hernandez, 1B Michel Abreu and LHP Adam Bostick are the team’s top, if marginal, prospects.

…of course, both Mike Pelfrey and Joe Smith may be in New Orleans before long, depending on their performance…

Meanwhile, the B-Mets will be loaded with the organziation’s best prospects, including 19–year-old OF Fernando Martinez, the team’s top prospect according to Baseball America.

Martinez, who will be back in Binghamton after an injury shortened 2007, will be joined in the lineup by 3B Dan Murphy (No. 11 according to BA), 1B Mike Carp (No. 15) and 1B-OF Nick Evans, who had a big year for High-A St. Lucie last year.

SS Jose Coronado will also return to Binghamton, while 2B Emmanuel Garcia, who had a good showing in Hawaii Winter Baseball, will round out the infield.

On the mound, top draft pick Eddie Kunz (No. 2) will serve as the closer, while LHP Jon Niese (No. 4) and RHP Bobby Parnell (No. 6), who both pitched in the Grapefruit League for the Mets, will be the top two starters.

The rest of the roster is available at BMets.com.

The Mets’ Single-A affiliates should release their rosters later today or tomorrow.

man, the B-Mets are going to be fun to follow this year, lots of nice talent down there. Really looking forward to see what happens. Obviously, Fmart, but I’m interested in Nick Evans and Dan Murphy, as well as Niese and Parnell on the pitching side.

  3. Ferragamo says:

Whats the deal with Ricardo Rincon? I thought he had excepted a spot down in the New Orleans bullpen?

    • Nate W. says:

I you mean accepted, no he let the Mets know he would rather become a free agent.

I’d imagine he’ll get a job with someone should an injury or two happen, otherwise look for him on someone elses AAA roster soon.

  4. NoPepperGames says:

Already got tickets to some Bingy Mets games.

    • CaseStreet says:

Never been to one. Got any advice?

      • NoPepperGames says:

This will be my first time there. I got tickets to see them play the Red Sox affiliate in mid April. 1st row, right behind home plate (Row 1 , Section 1).

    • rM teM says:

Binghamton plays Trenton Thunder (a Yankees team) in
June. I got tickets (behind the visitors dugout) for 10 bucks
each (June 21st, a Saturday night).
I hope to see (and hear) other Mets fans there….this a
      minor league Mets/Yankees…Lets Go Mets!

  5. zen says:

the mets have lots of high picks in this years draft. here is a preview of that draft talent from mlb.com:

    • mza4eva says:

I think the Mets should draft a pitcher, then draft a pitcher, and after maybe they should draft a pitcher. Stock pile the system with arms, because as with every trade we saw this offseason, pitching were key pieces

      • mackey_sassers_arm says:

almost… the bedard deal was centered around adam jones.

      • zen says:

certainly pitching is most important. i want the best player available on the board and for the mets to ignore the slotting system. this is a huge draft for the mets after giving up milledge, gomez, humber, guerra, and mulvey.

        they have the #18, #22, #34 + #22 pick in second round

      • CaseStreet says:

Not sure about that logic. D-Wright was a supplemental. Imagine if we didn’t pick him up, scary.

On the other hand, everyone wants pitching so might as well get as many as you can.

    • Ryn5 says:

Half of those players aren’t top prospects anymore.

  6. smc says:

Niese and Parnell, along with Kunz, seem to be the ones to watch. With this possibly being the year we label Pelfrey one to hang on to or a bust, these guys could be a big part of our future, or further proof that we need to go out and sign FA pitchers (not to mention overpay for OPerez at the end of the year?)

  7. hotcorner5 says:

Joe Hietpas hanging around down in Binghamton. good luck knucklin’ Joe!

    • the clap says:

Old Joe gotta’s love the game for hanging around this long, and switching to a pitcher. Hope he makes it for a taste of the Bigs after all he’s been going through.

Another longtime Binghamton veteran, Brett Harper, finally flew the coop. Guess he took the minor league free agent route. Wish him the best of luck wherever he is right now.

      • Nate W. says:

Harper took an invitation to ST with the SF Giants.

I dont get what the Giants are doing with thier 1B prospect on the bench while Aurilia plays 1B on that team. At least put Harper on the bench and the kid in AAA if they arent going to play him everyday…

Eddie Camacho is back in Bingy as well, he’s like the guy that just wont graduate from college…

  8. stickguy says:

Yeah, the Binghamton team looks pretty good. With a little luck, a few of the intriquing postion players (evens, Duda, etc.) have big years, and suddenly yhe “barren” farm system has some life again!

If AA kicks butt, and some of the new high A guys really step up, the Mets should be able to stay in business for a few more years.

AAA though is truly an old age home for guys that are only around in case a real player goes on the 15 day DL!

  9. metsin080910 says:

    What about Brant Rustich?

    • adropofvenom says:

Will Probably start in St. Lucie. They want to try him as a starter so they’re not gonna move him up to AA yet.

  10. Gina says:

I’m really excited to see what Nick Evans does.

I’m glad to see the farm isn’t completely empty as some of the media would like to believe, but I do kind of worry that their might be some major gaps between when we need these guys and when some of them are ready to become every day players.

  11. Gina says:

And does anyone know what happened Adam Bostick? He was the other pitcher we got from the Marlins in the Lindstrom & Owens trade. He was in AAA last year but he’s not listed on this New Orleans roster or on the Binghamton roster.

    • adropofvenom says:

He’s on the Zephyr’s roster. Of course he put up a 5.66 ERA in AAA last year (Granted the PCL is a hitters league).

      • Nate W. says:

He pitched much better in his fall league assignment. Bosticks problem is walks, he gives up a low hit rate, strikes guys out, but always seems to walk way too many for the other stats to matter.

  12. SlowRoller86 says:

The B Mets are all over CT in May, between New Britain and Norwich.

this is probably the best B team they have fielded in awhile

  13. adropofvenom says:

The Binghamton team looks pretty good, it’ll be interesting to see how they will manage having Dan Murphy, Mike Carp, and Nick Evans all on the same roster. Guess Nick Evans will be getting an extended chance to play OF just to get his bat in the lineup….at least when they’re not using the DH. If he can play Corner OF at a decent level he could become really interesting, as the Offensive Expectations for it are a little less then First Base.

  14. Jolting Joe says:

The Zephyrs web site lists a total of 2 outfielders on the roster.
Gonna be a lot of gappers.

    • adropofvenom says:

The PDF Matt linked to has 4

Chris Aguila, Jesus Feliciano, Victor Mendez, and Caleb Stewart.

      • Nate W. says:

I was a little surprised to see Stewart make AAA after the bismal second half he had in AA last year. I expect him to be overmatched.

I guess with Alou out, Pagan is the other would be OF on the AAA team so they needed someone.

  15. therealsince86 says:

Do these list include the players that are in extended spring training? Like Rincon, Lugo, Valentin???

    • Nate W. says:

Nope, Robinson Cancel and Ben Johnson should be on the AAA DL, but they arent on the Zephers roster.

According to Ryan Cullen himself who posted on NYFS: John Hattig, Schmoll and Cullen will not have jobs with the Mets this year. Cullen seems like a useful minor league pitcher, but the others are understandable.

  16. Nate W. says:

    what happened with Gary Bakker?

The Mets took him in the AAA phase of the rule V so doesn’t he have to stay on the AAA roster all year or get offered back? I’m not sure how that works, but his name has been completely off the radar all spring… anyone know?

    • Gina says:

I know he was in camp. I read somewhere else that he was one of like 15 pitchers they chose from for 7 open spots on the Zephyrs roster, so if he’s not on it now I guess we sent him back
