Saying the Marlins pen was their strength isn't necessarily the same thing as saying they have a good bullpen. The Marlins stink in all areas - starting pitching, offense (albeit with some decent power), defense and relief pitching. But yes, of all those categories, their pen is their strength. But that's like saying an ugly woman's strength is her polished finger nails.

After rewatching the Ramirez triple, there is NO DOUBT that he was mocking Reyes with the exaggerated clap. Reyes should be embarrassed that he let the teams he ran all over the past three years tame him. It's not his skills I question. It's his gut and heart. If anything, he should be louder and even more brash than he already was. it's sad.

I think he was talking about before the Santana deal happened. But from what I remember reading Beane wanted more for Blanton than what we gave up for Santana.

Look to all the banwagon fans freaking out ITS THE SECOND GAME OF THE SEASON RELAX!!!! I believe it is not a shock that pedro got injured but rather he got injured so soon. I mean right now the Nationals are in first place do you really think thats going to hold up kmon. Everyone needs to chill and let these guys play. The team has heart(they came back from 4-0 when their #2 guy went downin his season debut) and they have the capability to be great. The killer instinct will come for these guys dont worry. Let them get into a Rhythm first before you count these guys out. We will be fine and trust me THEY WILL NOT COLLAPSE LIKE THEY DID LAST YEAR BECAUSE THEY LOST THE SECOND GAME OF THE YEAR!!

This isn't about optimism or pessimism it's about realism. This Mets team lacks heart. Period. Any team that collapses (not against the Braves and Phillies which are at least quality teams) against the Marlins and Nationals down the stretch has a problem. The Mets should win 80% of their games against these teams but they don't, because there is no strong will to bury them. They play down to their competition instead of putting them away.

I don't know what or where the problem is, with the players, the manager or the training staff that can't keep guys on the field, but the bottom line is we're not getting 100% effort from this team and that's what pisses me off.

This should be a surprise to nobody: Pedro hurt, Alou hurt, El Puque hurt. The only person fooled by these guys is the one that signed them: Omar. The insistance on older players or never were players (Church and Schneider) to the ignornace of youth (Milledge for one) is going to doom this team in the end. 2 games in and the offense has not changed a bit from last year and the injuries have already started to mount. Not to mention the lack of fire is still there from the only manager who could have ever survived the epic collapse of 2007. The team takes the personality of the manager and in this case that is not a good thing folks.

A couple of important things that we learned/had confirmed from last night’s game:

1. Pedro is too old and fragile to be a regular starting pitcher. We will be lucky to get 10 starts from him this season.
2. Delgado in DONE as an offensive power. D-O-N-E. He looked totally overmatched even against the Marlins’ mediocre relief pitching. The lack of production we are going to get from him compared to the numbers Howard and Teixeria will put is going to be a serious problem.
3. Church is completely worthless against left-handed pitching.

I am as big a Mets fan as they come and bleed orange & blue, but now that the euphoria of Opening Day/Santana’s first start is over, we all need to be very realistic about the serious flaws on this team. They may still very well win the division, but they are going to have to fight and claw and show some serious heart that they were lacking last year.
