Read: SNY.tv Staff Picks
By Matthew Cerrone - Apr 1, 2008 3:06 pm

The staff and baseball bloggers from , which includes me, have posted predictions for the 2008 season, which you can read by clicking here.

i never do this sort of thing, but i figured it’s time i grew up and started acting like a professional…so when asked who will be the first to be fired in the National League, i said, “Phillie Phanatic,” and when asked to rank how the NL East will end up, i picked the Mets to finish first, with the Phillies in last…i just couldn’t help myself…oh, and yes, i’m that high on the Rays…go, Cliff Floyd…

  1. You guys really like the indians. I feel they won’t even make the playoffs, because teh yankees/red sox looser will beat them out in the wild card. Detroit is better then them (specially now that victor is injured.)
I got the Mets over the Dodgers & the Red Sox over Detroit

    Mets over Detroit in 5

    • Jim says:

If the Red sox beat Detroit how do the METS play Detroit?

      • ravi3 says:

He is saying that the Red Sox/Yanks will beat out the Indians for the Wild Card, with Detroit winning the AL Central

        • metzelaar says:

He said “Red Sox over Detroit” meaning the Sox beat Detroit. But then he said the Mets beat Detroit in the WS, which doesn’t make sense.

    • likeitoughttabe29 says:

wow, the dodgers. considering they are the fourth best team in their division its a bold prediciton to have them making it to the NLCS

  2. Ceetar says:

Steve Lombardi a Yankee fan or something? hmm..

  3. Whats with the Astros winning the central and the Phillies in last. I hate the phills but they are a decent team

    • mackey_sassers_arm says:

the phillies closer has an era of 135.00 and a whip of 15.00. And there is a chance it gets worse before it gets better.

  4. mackey_sassers_arm says:

be careful matt… for your AL underrated team, you have listed the “devil rays.” It’s comments like that which will get you fined upwards of $1.

  5. Roach2 says:

    Haha! very funny matt.

  6. Woodside20 says:

It seems that nobody told Mr. Cohen that Andruw Jones is still in the NL and that the Blue Jays and Padres are both in the AL and NL respectively. Not knowing these few things could certainly effect his chances of a correct prediction.

  7. No one picked willy for NL manager of the year. My favorite pick was pedro for most improved; i like whereLombardi is coming form

  8. irishchris87 says:

Cerrone any chance we can get the SNY intro video from yesterday’s game????

  9. saltzy007 says:

Way to stay objective there Matt…JK…

Just funny to me. 10 plus years of ‘Braves hatred/fear’ We lose to the Phils ONCE(granted in heartbreaking fashion) and suddenly is predictions on the Phanatic getting fired andthem finishing in last. WhereasTexiera winning the MVP, and the Braves winning the WC, I guess not a big deal anymore….It would just be ironic if the Braves would up being a much bigger part of the ‘08 Mets fate than any of us think or want….

  10. Jova1931 says:

If a non-New Yorker reads that post they are going to say that all of the writers are completely biased (Mets in the World Series and Johan and D. Wright winning the Cy Young and MVP, respectively).
And it’s true, what’s with this love-affair with the Indians. I mean they’re good but are they better than the Tigers and Red Sox?

    • metsftw says:

the pitching staff on the tigers outside of verlander consists of…?
bonderman? 5 ERA and 1.4 WHIP last year (though he does have a lot of upside)
      robertson? 4.75 ERA and 1.5 WHIP…
dontrelle? a 5 ERA in the NL…yeah, that’s gonna translate reaaaaaally well to the AL (especially the AL central)
kenny rogers? yeah, not gonna go into him…

with zumaya and rodney both out, todd jones is the only good reliever in the pen. while the tigers offense is going to score a buttload of runs, the indians offense is loaded as well. and the indians pitching is S O L I D. no reason why they can’t win the central.

    • Ted Berg says:

Incidentally, only half the people surveyed here are Mets fans. I thought I was going against the grain picking the Indians, but I guess I’m not alone.

I’ll take this opportunity to mention that I picked CC Sabathia to win the AL Cy Young award before he got lit up last night.

  11. DaveyS says:

In one breath a professional, in another resorting to childish games of deeming another team who accomplished something that we couldn’t….. an example of professional journalism indeed…. something I would expect to see in a NFL half-time broadcast

  12. Todald says:

I think Matt’s predictions are ridiculous and unprofessional. If the staff at SNY are going to post predicitions, Matt should have at least taken the assignment seriously. Phillies in last place? I hate the Phillies as much as the next Met fan, but predicting they will finish in last place is a joke. I’m surprised Matt didn’t take this opportunity to give his objective opinion on how the season will play out. That’s just wrong.

    • Jaded1983 says:

So, Matt isn’t allowed to have a sense of humor? Obviously the man knows the Phillies won’t finish last.

      • Jim says:

No, hopefully the Braves do and the Phillies finish second to last!

      • DaveyS says:

If his sense of humor is only appealing to those under the age of 10 who like to resort to name calling, then bravo Rodney Dangerfield

      • Todald says:

Save the jokes for the blog. Matt’s unprofessionalism is something I would expect from a Phillie fan.

        • commentswontnestbelowthislevel says:

there’s always a hater out there

        • MudvilleNine says:

Funny, I thought this was just a blog. Didn’t know it was professional journalism and that anyone writing it or in it was suppose to be totally serious and unbiased. The fact that he’s just another Met fan and writes and says what he thinks is exactly why this blog is so popular. The day he starts acting like those other so called “professionals”, will be the day most of us stop coming here. So if you’re expecting something different, my suggestion would be to read elsewhere.

        • Todald says:

His predictions were posted on SNY’s website. If he posted the predictions on his blog.. this wouldnt be an issue. He can do whatever he wants on the blog.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Why, is SNY government-regulated??? Wouldn’t want the kids having access to (gasp) tongue-in-cheek predictions!!! The horror! This is not an election, a war, or even journalism, period. “Professionalism” in baseball prognostications by SNY staff?? Put the lid back on the glue, buddy.

And sthe feigned outrage, while you’re at it. There’s a class of posters here who are jealous of Cerrone’s success or otherwise not thinking clearly, and the posts are just embarrassing. Who the heck cares? My personal view is that animals well down the food chain could tell that he’s joking, but if Matt made himself look like an idiot, so be it.

        • ghobot says:

but he cant do whatever he wants on the sny website? got ya.

are you really not noticing the tons of great opinions on things that actually matter that matt has said for years???

        • MudvilleNine says:

And he can do whatever he wants on the SNY website. They know he’s not a professional writer. They know he’s a fan running a blog for other fans. By asking him to participate they knew he could answer from a fan’s point of view, probably the reason why they asked him, and from what I’ve read so far, most fans here are hoping the Phils end up in last with Atlanta next to last. To me he answered like any fan would have. So somebody reads on the SNY website that a fan predicts the Phils in last place. Big deal. Another meaningless prediction and from a fan no less. Skip it and move on.

        • Todald says:

I think toomanyuniforms made a good point. Matt basically made himself look like an idiot. So be it. All I know is that if my full-time job was to run a blog covering the Mets and SNY gave me the opportunity to make pre-season predictions, I would try to be objective. Matt was trying to be funny. I get it. This is not the end of the world by any means.

Does Cerrone do Bar Mitzvah’s by the way??

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Actually, I don’t think he made himself look like an idiot, but if he did, that’s all it is. Not some breach of journalistic integrity, blah, blah, blah.

        • ghobot says:

all of this hullaballoo belies the fact that he made a joke about a joke.

preseason predictions are JOKES. stupid stupid jokes.

        • toomanyuniforms says:

How . . DARE you sully the time-honored institution of the preseason prognostication. I mean . . . shame on you.

        • Todald says:

          Noone answered my question…

does Cerrone do Bar Mitzvah’s?? He is hilarious and my nephew’s theme is Comedy.

        • Todald says:

toomanyuniforms.. is your big word of the day “prognostication”… stop saying it.. it’s played out

    • saltzy007 says:

Urgh…I really dont want to agree, but I have to. Matt, buddy, no offense, but your predictions make you look like a John Sterling wanna-be. I really dont think they wanted you to ‘joke’ about your predictions when they asked you(and outside of the NL East it looks like it was taken seriously), but (and I’ve read you say you sont want to be), BUT if you wanna be taken seriously as part of the media you just cant make contributions like this. Basically if you cant make real-world predictions about the subject that you run a BLOG about, how can you expect people to take you serious on any other subject? You cant think that everything is directed towards Metsbloggers. Anyone that didnt know about you or this site would think you are a joker, and thats not good.

      • ghobot says:

the practice of the pre-season prediction is ridiculous and inaccurate.

      • DaveyS says:

We’re not commenting on whether we like what he does here (and I know people take it personally when Matt’s criticized). We’re commenting on the fact that he wants this blog, his livelihood, taken seriously, surely he can at the very least take these sorts of free press opportunities seriously. I mean we hang on every word from the clubhouse, how do we know whether other fans with hang on to his… he is in effect the voice of all fans, and frankly he has embarrassed me today.

        • ghobot says:

yeah, i figured that was your take, that somehow, this reflected your opinions and your ability to evaluate major league teams.

have you EVER seen anyone correct with these exercises? i mean anyone. this has nothing to do with you. this has everything to do with how stupid it is to try to even guess these things. it cant possibly be predicted, and you should not even combine the idea of professionalism and pre-season predictions.

        • Todald says:

Regardless of whether it is stuipid or not to make pre-season predictions, it’s always been a part of any sport. There are professionals and experts who get paid to make these predictions. Do you think Dick Vitale would pick Cornell to go to the Final Four because he thought it was stupid to predict how the tournament would play out.? There is a business in evaluating sports for the benefit of the fans.

        • mackey_sassers_arm says:

Anyone see the phillies game yesterday? last place might not be that far off if they can’t win the games that myers starts.

if you can’t get the last 9 outs in a ballgame because your bullpen is horrible, you aren’t going to win many games. Their team isn’t put together the right way. They are very top-heavy similar to how the rays were built last year.

and the phillie phanatic should be fired.

        • Roach2 says:

          Dave/Todald:

No one here is upset that you’re criticizing Matt–i’m sure most don’t even care.

What I care about is how ridiculous it seems that you care THIS MUCH about a METS blogger’s season predictions on the web site of the METS OWNED cable station.

I hope one day you can laugh at yourself over this

        • saltzy007 says:

I cant say it much better than Davey. Its not whether the predictions are correct. Its the fact that in the division he maintains a blog that a team plays in, and on the official predictions on for the network the team plays in he made stupid predictions just for the sake of being stupid/funny. If Joel Sherman predicted the Yankees to win and the Sox to finish in 5th would you take him seriously as a beat reporter? Look, Matt has said he really does not want to become a serious reporter, so if thats the case then fine. Just dont present yourself as one, or expect me to respect you as one either. Ill just take the blog, and his contributions for what they are. Entertainment.

        • Todald says:

I’m passionate about the Mets and I HATE the Philadelphis Phillies and there fans. I went to school in PA so I was surrounded by Phil’s fans. They are the worst. They make stupid predictions and make irrational comments all the time. Matt happened to remind me of a Phillie Fan and it makes me sick.

        • mrmet it is says:

Yeah do you think Dick Vitale would have picked Davidson to the elite 8….just crazy talk huh.

        • commentswontnestbelowthislevel says:

i don’t know Matt at all…he could kick puppies for a hobby for all I know.

Anywhere….Everywhere in society, it seems there’s got to be a few individuals that take life way to seriously and feel it necessary to critique everything. I really get a kick out of folks that come to this blog – this free source of information – and “advise” Matt on how to run his blog, dress, write, market, speak on camera, gain weight/lose weight, etc. Not to mention those that think Matt’s affiliation with SNY is going to compromise the integrity of his blog and his ability to “keep it real”.

        • ghobot says:

this is really cracking me up. it would be so awesome if cerrone was right.

its not even like matt doesnt give great opinions all the time based on solid information. he does it all the time! but he has evidence to back it up. making predictions like this are baseless due to all the many variables that are present, so why would you care so much?

        • Todald says:

Noone is advising Matt how to run his blog. These predictions were posted on SNY’s website. Like I said, Matt can sing, dance, and juggle all he wants on this blog..

        • saltzy007 says:

My replies to both. First off, I dont ‘care’ if he picked the Marlins to win the WS. I dont take his predctions seriously. All I’m saying is HE SHOULD. Its his ‘job’ now isn’t it? Doesnt he go on and on about how protective over this site he is because its his livelihood? Then SNY askes for a prediction in the NL East and he takes the Phils last. I’m sure some of the guys that write for the NY Times are hysterical. I dont think their editors want that to show in their work. it was meant to be a ’serious’ prediction. It wasnt over beers or asked as a joke. Its a chance for him to prove he knows what hes talking about. Sorry for thinking that what he claims is his livilhood should be taken somewhat seriously. I apoligize. Now Im gonna hit the heavy bag and take out my aggression over this travesty in journalism….

        • ghobot says:

ha where do you get the chutzpah telling some guy you dont even know and you dont even pay how he should approach his job? oh wait. . .one blog, one million blogmasters.

        • Roach2 says:

Be careful, that could cause sterilization and/or blindness.

Wait, i’m at work…i should be more serious

        • toomanyuniforms says:

I’m with “ghobot” on this. It’s just not that serious. He could make joke predicitions on the front page of the Times, for all I care. If there’s a problem with media/journalism today, it takes a special kind of stupidity and pathological lack of perspective to say that a lack of seriousness about professional sports prognostications is a part of that problem.

        • ghobot says:

it definitely has something to say about journalism as a whole. pundits arent evaluated for making valuable, nuanced, well researched analysis from evidence. it just matters they say something, and hopefully something that leads to ratings. thats not a good thing.

        • saltzy007 says:

Thank you….basically my point. Can we agree that of course ‘this’ isnt a big deal. Its just a little too close to what ARE big deals involving the subjectivity of the media these days. No affiation with SNY…no argument from me…

      • metsftw says:

when steve phillips, eric young, and john kruk have jobs on the premiere sports network in the U.S. reporting on the NATIONAL PASTIME and we can’t take them seriously, why the hell should a BLOGGER care about what you think?

      • IT IS HIGH
        IT IS FAR

IT IS STRIKE TWO! THE DELGAD-INO DELIVERS!!!

  13. ghobot says:

matt, i love what you did there

  14. wrighton05 says:

saltzy007 Get a Life. Chill out.

    • saltzy007 says:

Do you think Im sitting here screaming at my computer with my fist clenched? I have a life thanks, and Im perfectly chill…

If Matt is actually a ‘beat’ reporter, with an affiliation with the team and the newtork they play on I would hope his comments would be realistic . Thats all. If this site is entertainment only then its perfectly fine. All Im saying. Which is it?

      • metzelaar says:

Matt didn’t make those predictions for our “entertainment” He did it because he doesn’t like making predictions, and realizes how pointless and self-serving they are.

He does an incredible job keeping fans informed with this site, and if something as ridiculous as this bothers you so much, good riddance.

        • saltzy007 says:

Again. Reporters shoudnt have the right to decide whats important. Its why the media these days is a JOKE. Everyone just screams opinions that are based on nothing other than personal beliefs. Hes now a ‘reporter’(I guess)….

Heres a good question. Is Matt a reporter or an op-ed columnist? Maureen Down can make jokes and be ‘quirky’ in her column. The front page investagators cannot…

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Hold on — his season predictions on the SNY website are tantamount to news on the struggle to secure Kabul? What’s the “fact” that he’s hiding? His real picks? How dare he HIDE THE TRUTH!!!! Call in the Warren Commission — WAIT, they’re CIA SHILLS!!!! ACK!

        • metzelaar says:

He’s not a reporter. That’s the point of a blog. It’s a place dedicated to stating one’s own opinions. He has no obligations to finding the facts, and being objective. This is HIS BLOG. He can say and do whatever he damn well pleases, and there isn’t a single thing wrong with that.

  15. metsftw says:

make fun of matt all you want, but who’s the genius who has the astros winning the nl central?

i do love that ozzie guillen is the overwhelming favorite to be fired. hate that idiot.

  16. metties1 says:

I agree to an extent. How can you expect people to do over/under predictions and what not, when you won’t even fill out these predictions seriously?

    Texiera as MVP… ughhh

I like Pedro as comeback player. If he stays healthy, I don’t see why not.. Randy Johnson???

Cabrera hitting the most HR’s may be tough in Detroit…

Matt must be extra pumped about not getting Joe Blanton, after voting him most overrated AL player

  17. commentswontnestbelowthislevel says:

you might think this is the Brave hater coming out in me, but I just don’t see Tex winning the NL MVP…or even being in the top 5

  18. mrmet it is says:

I think Matts prediction has plenty of validity.
the phillies are 0-1. at this rate they will finish 0-162….
sounds like last place to me.

-Die-Hard mets fan, living in philly.

  19. metsftw says:

i would also be wary of picking anyone on the reds to be ROY. dusty baker’s the manager, so…

    • zen says:

baker has 3 first place finishes and 6 second place finishes as a manager. it was the 1st time for the cubs in 15 years. they finished 5th the year before baker. before baker the giants were in 5th. they were in 2nd the next year with him…

he must play too much small ball for you.

      • ghobot says:

he said as rookie of the year, since the dusty has been known to be a veterans manager.

        • zen says:

prior and zambrano were 22 and had their first full seasons starting in that 2003 cubs team. facts should be considered.

        • ghobot says:

totally, but it isnt out of question that dusty, who does have a reputation of being a veterans manager, would not be patient with a struggling possibly ROY candidate.

        • zen says:

          fair enough.

        • metsftw says:

sorry i’m not a fan of dusty “clogging up the bases” baker. i guess you agree with his philosophy of wasting outs though. also, take a look at the roster changes of those teams before attributing their success to the frickin’ manager. he has so little impact on the outcome of the game it’s not even funny.

      • metzelaar says:

Do you honestly think that a manager makes that much of a difference? Not for anything, but Torre was a pretty subpar manager until he was coaching a team with perennial all-stars, and now he’s considered one of the best managers in the game. Let’s no put too much weight on what managers do. Especially Dusty Baker, who’s a borderline moron.

        • zen says:

obviously the talent of the field is most important. the manager has little effect beyond making sure he doesn’t run the talent into the ground as grady little did with the dodgers last year.

that being said, it’s not a coincidence that the giants and cubs turned around immediately under baker. if the dodgers play well this year after the mess in the clubhouse last year torre get credit.

mets fans seems to think that the manager is the most important part of the team. calling someone a moron hardly makes an argument. it’s childish especially when you are talking about people who are great at something you can only wish to do

        • ghobot says:

well it might be a question to how much playing time and patience a manager has for a rookie, so yes, a manager can have an effect.

        • zen says:

is there any mets fan who wouldn’t give mike scioscia a contract for big, big money?

        • metzelaar says:

“I don’t like guys clogging up the bases” – Dusty Baker

That’s a moronic comment. Especially coming from a guy that gets paid millions to run a ball club. So say what you will, but I’m not resorting to name-calling for the sake of name-calling. The guy is clueless.

        • zen says:

i agree with baker that the guys in the middle of the order should be driving in runs not taking walks. i don’t want wright and beltran to leave it to church and pagan. reyes and castillo should be more concerned with obs than the middle of the order guys.

this is what he said in context:

“I’m big on driving in runs and scoring runs,” Baker said. “Guys in the middle should score about close to equal to what they drive in. On-base percentage, that’s fine and dandy. But a lot of times guys get so much into on-base percentage that they cease to swing. It’s becoming a little bit out of control.” –baker

        • metzelaar says:

          Let’s break down that quote:

          Dusty wants:

          - to drive and score in runs
          - guys to swing the bat

          Dusty doesn’t want:

          -guys “clogging up the bases”
          - guys worrying about their “fine and dandy” OBP

Last I checked, in order to SCORE runs (one of Dusty’s wants) you need to “clog the bases” (one of Dusty’s dislikes). In order “drive in runs” (again, a Dusty-want) you need to have guys on base to drive in (which warrants people with high OBPs in the line-up, surprisingly a pet peeve of Dusty’s)

Unless you’re made of HGH, and you hit home runs every at-bat, Dusty won’t like you. And if you seriously support anybody in the lineup swinging the bat for the sake of swinging it, as opposed to drawing a walk and putting yourself in a position to, and say it with me now, SCORE RUNS, you’re just delusional as he is. A walk is as good as a hit.

        • zen says:

read what he said. he wants the middle of the order guys to drive in runs instead of taking walks and not swinging the bat.

now you’re calling me names, lol. at least i can read.

        • zen says:

he’s referring to guys like frank thomas who take pitches a centimeter off the plate to pad thier obs instead of driving in a run with an out or sacrifice

        • zen says:

          *their

        • metzelaar says:

I read the quote. I analyzed the quote. I suggest you have yourself another look-see, because I stand by everything I said.

Middle of the order guys are the only players who should look to drive in runs? What about the guys behind them? Are they somehow incapable of driving in runs?

Just in case you’re having trouble with those questions, they’re rhetorical. There’s no reason why middle of the order guys should look to walk any less than top or bottom of the order guys. The approach is the same.

And I don’t know where you get your information. Since when do guys like Frank Thomas take pitches “a centimeter” off the plate in order to pad their OBP? I think that of all the things they’re worried about “padding their OBP” is rather low on that list. Everybody wants an RBI more than a percentage point on your on base percentage. But you’re not helping anybody by swinging away when you have a chance to get on base and help your team.

I’m not “name-calling” here, just stating facts. Dusty isn’t too bright.

        • metsftw says:

zen doesn’t know that people have to be on base to get driven in, apparently.

        • zen says:

try hooked on phonics. it will help you with reading.

        • metsftw says:

if i thought your comments were worth reading, i would have. after your defense of dusty baker i was convinced that they weren’t.

        • zen says:

you used zero fact. i used several. you admit to not reading comments you respond to. duh.

        • metzelaar says:

Zen, you call people out for not using facts, yet I have yet to see you use any. You also claim people are resorting to “name-calling,” and then insist that others don’t know how to read.

I was hoping to have an intelligent debate with you, but it appears to me you’re nothing but an ignoramus and a hypocrite (and I have the facts to back those names up, so save your breath). Have a good one, man.

        • zen says:

yeah. i’m the only one who provided any facts: baker’s managerial record, full quotes with explanation, two young pitchers (22) with first full-time seasons under baker along with providing a manager who every mets fan would love to have and who makes a difference.

i was countered with “i didn’t read your post” and he’s a “moron” whatever

        • metsftw says:

you were able to provide 2 players from dusty’s years of managing. good job. we’ll just forget that he ruined prior’s arm so that he’s reduced to signing 1 year contracts now. i’m blown away by your facts. baker is a terrible manager, and small ball is a terrible way to win baseball games. if you don’t believe me, try reading the numerous websites that have broken down the problems with small ball. THT, baseball prospectus, etc. but those are all nerdy nerd sites written by people who never played, right?

        • metzelaar says:

A coach’s managerial record is a poor gauge of how good they are at their job, and even you admitted that.

Then you listed two young players who debuted under Dusty, neither of which support your argument that he’s a good manager.

You also provided a quote which did nothing but further prove how inept his brain is when it comes to the game of baseball.

So, I’m sorry, you did provide facts. Just very poor ones, which did nothing to further your position that Dusty is a good manager. So congrats.

Who Cares pre season predictions are to fill the void before the season starts. We are in the season so you can predict all you want doesnt matter anymore. All you can do now is play the games and see what happens.

Cow Bell Man should be fired.

  21. throatneedle says:

honestly i found that picking the phillies to finish in last place, the phanatic to be the first manager fired, and cliff floyd to be the AL comeback player of the year to be childish and irresponsible. to be more honest, you’re getting paid by SNY now Cerrone. honestly, it’s time to grow up (honestly)

    • metzelaar says:

Congratulation, you just set a new world record for most uses of the word “honestly” in a single post.

I hope your comment was a joke, because it makes next to no sense. What does making predictions have to do with being “professional” and “respectable”? Steve Phillips makes serious predictions. My neighbor, who act mildly retarded at times, can make serious predictions. Does that mean that they are “professional” and “respectable”?

The fact that he goofed off on the predictions is a testament to the fact that the predictions, themselves, are an absolute joke. Anybody who has a problem with what Matt did is the one who needs to grow up.

      • saltzy007 says:

Reporters report….readers read and take away what they want to. If you ‘cover’ something its not up to you to decide that something is unimportant. Your only goal is to be objective. Remmeber when ESPN was a real netowrk? When they actually made an attempt to cover sports objectively? Remember when people took them seriously? Its this sorta ‘flair’ and subjective crap that made them into the joke they are today. What is so hard to understand here? Its not that I take everything seriously, its that there are so few outlets that take take report objectively ANYWHERE. Again, if this site(or at least the way its ran) is meant to be a ’source for Mets info’ then you cant make assasine predictions. If its for entertainmant purposes I dont care if Mickey Mouse is his MVP candidate.

        • metzelaar says:

This is METSblog. Not MLBblog. Not BASEBALLblog. You want to ask Matt about his predictions for the METS this season, by all means. And he should give you an honest answer. But I don’t know where you get the idea that it’s his job to make meaningless predictions about the rest of baseball.

This site is dedicated to a single team. To not expect some form of bias towards that team is ridiculous.

        • Roach2 says:

Hey James Bond (that IS why you chose 007, isn’t it?) why can’t it be both informative and entertaining?

Why can’t Matt have a little fun and give some of the SNY.TV readers a chuckle?!

Why are you, Dave and Todald so tightly wound?

        • MudvilleNine says:

I always thought blogs were for entertainment. What makes this one the best is that Matt has an inside to genuine information yet still entertains. Glad Matt doesnt take himself as serious as you guys do.

        • Roach2 says:

They should probably start a support group…they must be so upset…one guy is even SICK over it (his words, not mine)

        • saltzy007 says:

Sigh. Because the intent by SNY(a legitimate news source) was to get predictions from supposed ‘professionals’ on the season. It wasnt meant to be comical. Anyone reading that thinks hes an idiot. Thats all. It wasnt part of his blog. It was his opinion in relation to other ‘professionals’. If you wanna write in the comments ‘I really wanted to take the Philles last, haha.’ Comments are the place to be subjective/funny. Gotcha. The context of the piece were that the predictions were taken in ernest. No one else on the whole thing made stupid predictions. If he wants to be taken seriously then you cant do stuff like that. Whatever, moving on…

        • metzelaar says:

Saltzy, I don’t think that a single person is going to look at his predictions and say “oh well, guess I can’t respect THAT guy anymore.” You’re making this a much bigger deal than it is.

  22. BringBackDaveTelgheder says:

Curious what made you pick Ross Gload as underrated AL player. He’s not very good and blocking Shealy from having an everyday job.

  23. Andrew says:

I don’t even see Cerrone’s picks on that page. Am I missing something?

    • Necciai27 says:

Same here. I don’t see Matt’s picks. What happened? They get taken down for being silly or something?

      • toomanyuniforms says:

I’m sure the FCC and several Congressional subcommitees are huddled together right now trying to figure what to do about this apocalyptic breach of standards in journalism.

        • Roach2 says:

Your mothers must be so proud of you that you are taking a stand against such a monster/clown/entertainer such as Matt.

This is by far the funniest thread I’ve seen in a while

        • Roach2 says:

TMU, not directed at you (that rhymed)

        • toomanyuniforms says:

Please tell me you realize that I was joking. . . .

        • Roach2 says:

          Poorly placed post

Apparently, my comment did nest below

I deserve 10 lashings for my unprofessional blogging

    • GravediggerHebner says:

It goes Ted Berg, then Tom Boorstein, then Matt Cerrone.
Third column in starting on the left, at the top.

      • toomanyuniforms says:

How funny — that’s the order they’ll be in when they testify before Congress about the COVER-UP of Matt’s “real” predicitons.

        • GravediggerHebner says:

Canseco will come before Cerrone, due to that darned alphabet thingy. Canseco’s testimony will consist of him jumping up and down saying “look at me, listen to me, buy my book!”

    • Nate W. says:

I dont see them either, they have the SNY producers picks on that page.

  24. ScalewagJim says:

Everyone that is talking about whether or not Matt was being objective or not is failing to look at anything there besides the standings. Did anyone notice that he picked Mark Teixeira for NL MVP!? He’s a diehard met fan and as he said when he signed with SNY he isn’t changing his ways. In fact, I respect his consistency, I hope he goes on Baseball Tonight and says the same thing.

  25. throatneedle says:

honestly though…cliff floyd AL comeback player of the year? to be honest… cliff floyd has been running on 3 toes since before he got signed by the mets…honestly!

honestly though…cerrone’s overuse of the word ‘honestly’ is honestly ridiculous (honestly)
