To watch a video clip of Jon Stewart during last night’s Daily Show predicting that the Mets will win 162 games this season, click here.
…jeeez, way to jinx it, jon…thanks to you saying this out loud, now there is no chance of them going 162–0…nice going…
…thanks to matt m for the link…

I believe that prediction is stupid. I hope they win 162 games, But im expecting them to win 100 games if where healthy throughout the year.
Are you kidding me?? It was a JOKE…geez. He is a huge fan. If you really think any baseball fan thinks a team is going 162-0 you need to rethink some things my friend…
yea seriously…
was this guy’s post a joke too? I REALLY HOPE SO
Hey Matt, as someone suggested in a previous thread, can you put up the opening bit SNY had before yesterday’s game? I missed it too and am curious to see what was so inspiring about it.
i doubt we will go 162-0.
there will probably be one or two rainouts.
rainouts are made up dummy.
1 or 2 rainouts…..Hardy har har.
Funny – guy!
Big Stewart fan, even bigger Mets fan. I love to hear about my favorite team on my favorite show
I am with you on that!
A perfect season does not a champion make. Ask a Pats fan about it.
Ahhhh…it’s a good year to be a New York sports fan!
Dyslexic, are we?
Ha. Tough crowd!
Yoda?
Shakespeare?
Not quite. But here it is in haiku form, for starters…
“One Six Two and Oh.
Does not make us champions.
Go ask a Pats fan.”
:)
redemption Mr. gee…nice job.
Sorry, not Shakespeare. Richard Lovelace:
“Stone walls do not a prison make
Nor iron bars a cage.”
That Haiku is funny.
I’m glad to know that Stewart is a Mets fan. I would love to see a list of celebrities who are Mets fans. I always viewed them as part of the makeup of the team and the game atmosphere. For example, who can forget seeing Pearl Bailey in the stands during the 1973 World Series. She was one of the stalwart Mets fans in those days. Nowadays we get to see Jerry Seinfeld often in the stands.
Any lists of Met Fan celebrities?
JULIAN CASABLANCAS. he is the only one who matters to me.
wikipedia used to have a list but it was taken down. i miss that and the list of baseball players’ entrance music. definitely disagree with the wikipedia gods about the significance of those lists.
Wikipedos are terrible people. There should be a wiki for Mets-related subject matter, a central database for information other than statistics hosted either here or on another Mets site.
Some known Mets fans (besides Jon Stewart):
Tim Robbins
Hilary Swank
Matt and Kevin Dillon
Jerry Seinfeld
Kevin James
Ed Burns
Bill O’Reilly (sad, but true)
Kelly Ripa, the blonde bullhorn.
She is the hottest woman alive! And a Mets fan too? I’m in love…shhhhh don’t tell my wife!
Dude, Jon Stewart didn’t jinx anything, David Wright said it after the game too…..;-)
At times I have heard Julia Stiles, Chris Rock, John Leguiziamo linked to the team as fans. Of course, Kevin James is a huge Mets fan, if you need proof just watch the movie Chuck and Larry, I had fun counting the times that Kevin James’ character was wearing Mets gear.
forgot about Leguizamo and Stiles. Good catch.
Jerry Seinfeld.
“probably in extra innings”
haha, spoken like a true Mets fan
Taken from Wikipedia:
Notable Mets fans include celebrities [[Jerry Seinfeld]] (both in real life and on his TV show), [[Jon Stewart]], [[Tim Robbins]], [[Susan Sarandon]], [[John Leguizamo]], [[Viggo Mortensen]], [[Ray Romano]], [[Glenn Close]], [[Paul Auster]], [[Bill O'Reilly (journalist)|Bill O'Reilly]], [[Michael Vartan]], [[Joe Quesada]], [[Peter David]], [[Bob Wiltfong]], rock group [[Belle and Sebastian]] and [[Kevin James]] (as well as his fictional character, [[Doug Heffernan]]). The late singer-actresses [[Pearl Bailey]] and [[Nell Carter]] were also Mets fans. Former president [[Richard Nixon]] was a Shea Stadium regular during the 1980s and ’90s. Husband-and-wife actors [[Matthew Broderick]] and [[Sarah Jessica Parker]] have often been seen together at interleague games between the Mets and Yankees, Broderick rooting for the Mets and Parker for the Yankees. Although actor [[Billy Crystal]] is a Yankees fan, in the film ”[[City Slickers]]”, his baseball-obsessed character [[Mitch Robbins]] wore a Mets cap. Journalist [[Joe Klein]] claims that he and a friend hung the first Mets fan banner at the Polo Grounds in 1962. The late R&B singer [[Luther Vandross]] was also a Mets fan. Indie rock band [[Yo La Tengo]] are huge Mets fans, their name even coming from a Mets anecdote involving [[Richie Ashburn]] and [[Elio Chacón]].
I ran into Tim Robbins and Susan Serandon at a little coffee shop up here in Maine last week.
I really wanted to ask them about their thoughts on the Mets season, but didn’t want to bug them, since they seemed to be trying to keep to themselves.
Jon Stewart can say anything he wants as long as he doesn’t take himself too seriously like Billy Crystal with the Yankees.
Take himself too seriously? Have you ever watched Jon Stewart?
I’m not talking about politics, I’m just saying as a Mets fan
His character in City Slickers was purposefully written to be a complete doofus. To him this meant adding a Mets cap. That is an unforgivable sin. Billy Crystal should be pelted with tomatoes.
No – he wore the hat because the Mets were the hot NY team at the time (late 80s/early 90s).
His character was pretty much the most normal of the three – if anything Daniel Stern’s character was the doofus.
I agree. The character’s baseball obsession was used as way to develop his immaturity. The relation is Mets fan = young child. Hate him. By the way 61* blew.
When will Johan be on the Daily Show? Wright was on (re: AROD), Mr. Met was on when the writers came back. Any other Met appearances on the Daily Show?
Yeah, I was on it.
The Mets should sign Stewart to a one day contract next year like the yanks did with crystal…maybe he can drop down a bunt or something.
thats smart
