Note: El Duque to Make 3 Rehab Starts

by Matthew Cerrone

Before tonight’s game, Orlando Hernandez told  that he intends to make three minor-league rehab starts before rejoining the major-league club.

so, if he starts on Thursday, as expected, this suggests he will be unavailable until at least the middle of April, which means the Mets will only need to start Nelson Figueroa once, on April 12, assuming a) the Mets push up their rotation, to start Oliver Perez next Tuesday in the home opener, and b) el duque does not suffer a set back

Take your time Duque. No hurries at all. Just don’t aggravate the bunion.

Cerrone April 2, 2008 at 6:59 pm

or calf.

Cerrone April 2, 2008 at 6:59 pm

or anything else for that matter.

dave56dj April 2, 2008 at 7:04 pm

agreed, take your time, but we cannot count on 35+ pitchers at all anymore. hope petey comes back soon but lets face it there is a great chance he goes down again. I think vargas or williams has to be had, although williams is 35+ too.

2 games in…no worries just yet, have a game Ollie.

Duque as the cavalry isn’t exactly a reassuring notion.

Mingo April 2, 2008 at 7:22 pm

Geez what a throw from Church.

christian warrior April 2, 2008 at 7:23 pm

I really think that Ryan Church is going to have a good year for us. The throw to nail Ramirez shows that he has a good arm in RF, and he’s got a nice swing. He hasn’t really looked lost against lefties, either.

i just noticed that ollie finally shaved

TheIcon April 2, 2008 at 7:28 pm

Wasn’t there someone on here the other day who said Church looked lost in the outfield. He played that ball perfect off the throw and made a great throw.

gipper913 April 2, 2008 at 8:25 pm

I did, and it was tongue-in-cheek response to another commentor’s complaining about Church’s inability to get to a ball that Willie Mays would have had trouble getting to.

I went on ESPN today at work to check Delgado’s career stats. I just needed to assure myself that hes the same guy who put up monster numbers for 10 years.

RBI opportunity…..whats the over/under on him actually getting a big hit?

Wheelhouse19 April 2, 2008 at 7:31 pm

That aboy Carlos. Bout time….now keep it up. Lets have a shadows of 2003 year.

Opposite way..good to see. Now just get some of that power back and start poppin those over the fence.

Wheelhouse19 April 2, 2008 at 7:35 pm

I like that kids stroke……hes got power.

cousinrk April 2, 2008 at 7:36 pm

Homer off a Lefty baby, that’s two RBI’s off lefties. Excellent sign for Church

cohen1333 April 2, 2008 at 8:03 pm

is anybody else really impressed with pagan thus far? he certainly has come through when he needs to. that being said, what does everybody think of bringing in Juan Pierre to bat 8th. He hit almost .300 last year and stole 60+ bases, plus the mets may be able to get him for one or two lower levels if they take a large chunk of that contract.

stickguy April 2, 2008 at 11:21 pm

I think he stinks. Pass.

randytate April 2, 2008 at 8:41 pm

Sure would nice to have Brian Bannister right now. See his pitching line today:

7 Inninings
0 Runs
2 Hits
4 Strikeouts
0 Walks

CTMetfan78 April 2, 2008 at 9:07 pm

CTMetfan78 April 2, 2008 at 9:10 pm

Number41 April 2, 2008 at 9:11 pm

thank you and good night (10 – zip and I have an early meetin’)
***************LETS GO METS ***************************

espn.com says mets announced that pedro is out 4-6 weeks with a mild strain of the left hammy.

Cerrone,

Please, please, use your SNY pull to put the kibash on these in-game phone calls. Granted, in an 11-0 rout there is no real sanctity of the broadcast that needs be preserved, but even still. A live baseball game is not the place field extremely general and often ill-informed questions from fans. That’s what WFAN is for. SNY has to allow the viewers who DON’T want to listen to phone calls to be able to watch a live game without this uncalled for intrusion.

I know you’ve said that you want to give it a chance, which is probably the best response you can give in light of your affiliation, but my man, please stand for the fans on this. This is ridiculous.

Shea Faithful April 3, 2008 at 12:20 am

This blows. I bought tickets to Thursday’s and Saturday’s games at Shea to make sure I got to see Santana’s Shea debut. I had it covered for either a four or five man rotation, and I was in line to see Maine on the 10th and Johan on the 12th. Now, I’m gonna end up seeing Pelfrey and Figueroa?!?! I’m praying for a rain out.

Number41 April 3, 2008 at 4:57 am

so it’s Santana on Sunday the 13th right now?
Sunday afternoon; ace in pinstripes….
will it get moved to 8 pm, national coverage?
so mant questions,
so little time….
