The Lineup :

The Pitchers :

LHP Oliver Perez makes his 2008 debut for the Mets. In 29 starts last season, Perez was 15-10 with a 3.56 ERA. In four starts vs. the Marlins last season, he was 2-1 with a 4.84 ERA. In four career starts at Dolphin Stadium, he is 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA. Perez had a 5.40 ERA in six spring starts.

He was acquired by the Marlins as part of the Miguel Cabrera/Dontrelle Willis trade. Miller had 4.23 ERA in seven spring appearances.

The Notes :

  1. KinersKornerman says:

God, I hope “Babe” Andino isn’t starting.

  2. Al Kykyoras says:

Delgado should bat 8th. He is just awful.

  3. mrosey says:

what an arm by Ryan Church. Wow

  4. backinbusiness says:

hey, didn’t church pitch in college…?
    great arm.

  5. therealsince86 says:

Amazing, they call Willingham the hammer and he put up the same numbers Delgado did last year and we call him Delcrapo the Done.

  6. zen says:

cliff floyd 3-run hr for rays

  7. metsmobile says:

    DELGADOO

  8. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Church sucks, Delgado sucks, wah wah wah.

  9. KinersKornerman says:

    Lastings who?

  10. Aussie-Met says:

Delgado sucks and Church can’t hit lefties.

    • farb09 says:

yup, you hit the nail on the head with that one.

      • farb09 says:

oh, maybe you were being sarcastic. my bad. church is a stud, at any rate.

        • Aussie-Met says:

You got there in the end ;) I couldn’t agree more, love the Church. His D alone makes him a vastly superior upgrade from either Green or Milledge.

        • thrilledge 4 prez says:

talking about jumping the gun on a player, he got a hit and threw a guy out so now hes vlad guerrero…. id also ditch the homo-erotic smiley face in ur post

  11. therealsince86 says:

Look, I am not one to say that one answer is clearly better than another but Church as already shown this game why we got him. Great defense and a professional hitter.

  12. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Who was is that said we have 5 easy outs?

  13. metsfan81 says:

how often do we see it, guy makes a play in the field then gets a big hit…church is droppin bombs in mlb2k8 franchise leads the league w 12 hrs thru first 20 games…..offense jumps out to big lead yet again

  14. chew13 says:

I’ve been against the Milledge trade since it happened but if Church continues to play every game the way he has tonight I think I’ll get over it. Sooner rather than later. Nice play throwin out Hanley and now a shot to RF. CHURCH!!

    • koosman3669 says:

They had a couple of slow motion replays during Church’s homerun at bat. One thing you have to notice is that he closes his eyes when he swings and is about to make contact. The really good hitters never do that. If they can correct that, and its all mental, his BA could jump 25 points easy.

  15. Deaner says:

Plus Schnieder takes some pitches and draws a walk. Not often you see a patient 8 hole hitter who can help turn over the lineup.

Mets are making the kid work tonight. I like what I see.

    • therealsince86 says:

I think that was many of our points earlier right after the trade. Loduca was not a great 8 hole hitter because he would not take a walk. Schnieder is the perfect 8 hole hitter because he does.

  16. CitizenSnips says:

    Wright, Wright, Wright….

  17. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Is it just me or does Wright look like he is running slower this year?

  18. huge_mets_fan11 says:

I do like how this lineup works the count, that will lead to a lot of teams using their bullpen early…then Delgado strikes out on ball 4.

    YES PAGAN!

  19. therealsince86 says:

The black hole that is the Mets 6-8 hitters. Oh wait, maybe not.

  20. mdemaio says:

Did Delgado always have this much movement in his approach at the plate? He looks like his got a neurological problem up there…how can he catch up with a fastball if he’s moving that much?

    Go Angel…

  21. KinersKornerman says:

Seems like we should be up by 8. Why am I worried?

  22. zen says:

    beltran 2-2 2d 2r

  23. metchamp78 says:

Did anyone notice willie saying that Castillo has one leg shorter than the other today on the fan? I thought that was an interesting bit of info

    • FBones24 says:

I heard that and I thought it was a joke but he was obviously serious. Interesting and explains why he looks like he is in pain when he walks around but can run full speed.

      • metchamp78 says:

It probably made his leg issues look worse than they really were. Many scouts said he was done but maybe they didn’t know the whole story.

  24. cohen1333 says:

is anybody else really impressed with pagan thus far? he certainly has come through when he needs to. that being said, what does everybody think of bringing in Juan Pierre to bat 8th. He hit almost .300 last year and stole 60+ bases, plus the mets may be able to get him for one or two lower levels if they take a large chunk of that contract.

    • KinersKornerman says:

Who would you drop from the 25-man roster? You can pick him up for nothing, but you will have to “lose” an active player.

      • cohen1333 says:

i would drop pagan. he looks good but nobody expects him to sustain it, and then when alou comes back, pierre play 2-3 a week, alou plays 3-4….i like that a lot

        • KinersKornerman says:

Not sure what it says to a player that when he is doing well, you pick up anohter teams’ discard, send your guy to the minors. I like to think that loyalty matters.

Maybe if Alou does not come back, it changes the equation, but right now is not a good time to get Pierre.

        • cohen1333 says:

thats a valid argument…but we know pagan wont keep it up, he had a good spring and a good first 3 games of the season…but what loyalty? hes been on the team of a few months. idk, i think re-uniting pierre with castillo in combination with reyes and wright…lethal.

        • KinersKornerman says:

          It’s a decent idea.

But I think you’re shortchanging Pagan. Word is that Lou Piniella didn’t like him because of mental mistakes, not for lack of talent.

        • cohen1333 says:

I very well may be. That is interesting to hear, and now im interested in seeing him play more.

    • therealsince86 says:

Why on earth would you want Pierre for that money when Pagan can give you just as much for nothing?

      • cohen1333 says:

well if we are assuming pagan can give us the same thing for 100 games then i wouldnt want pierre, which i do not think he can…hes not going to have a hitting rennaisance at age 28, nor can he steal 65 bases…if he was this good for a whole season he would have been a starter in chicago

        • therealsince86 says:

And if Pierre was that good the Dodgers would not be paying him that much to sit the bench.

        • cohen1333 says:

aaaand Joe Toree loves the young bucks…thats the biggest reason. Pierre hit .293, 24 dubs, 8 trips, 64 stolen bases and only 37k’s in a little over 700 plate appearances…i’ll take a mini-reyes any day.

        • Metsfan1981 says:

No, the biggest reason was that Ethier is significantly better than Pierre. Since when is Torre renowned for favoring younger players?

The fact of the matter is that Juan Pierre does one thing well: steal bases. While he might be good for fantasy owners, he is a below average player signed to a terrible contract. He does not draw walks or hit for power. He does hit for a pretty good average, but that is a highly overrrated statistic. Oh, and he also has a poor arm.

          I’ll stick with Pagan.

  25. metsftw says:

oh, ollie, i love your motion. falling off the mound towards 3rd isn’t detrimental at all.

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

      Santana does it too

    • metchamp78 says:

Not when he’s throwing 94 mph heat past Dan Uggla

      • huge_mets_fan11 says:

True but that also can lead to slow rollers to first where Santana has to cover first, but this is not bashing Santana, he is an great athlete and fields his position amazingly

  26. wolverine193 says:

The booth is talking as if Ollie may not be on the team next year, but if Perez has the same season this year as last year, and the Mets don’t re-sign him, with the new stadium next year, I’m gonna be pretty pissed.

    • metchamp78 says:

Well with Citifield opening and that extra 20 million from citibank maybe they will resign him or maybe they say “why pay Perez 15 mil for 4 years when we can pay CC Sabathia
      18 over 6 years and he’s also a lefty.

  27. CitizenSnips says:

Is Perez batting or just using the bat to protect himself from the mean nasty fastballs?

  28. AdrianoMG6 says:

The booth might be on crack.

  29. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Wow, Perez is dealing, 6 Ks through 3.1

  30. CitizenSnips says:

That was a sick double play.

  31. therealsince86 says:

And that my friends is why we have Castillo and the Braves have Gotay.

  32. therealsince86 says:

What do you have to do to hit a homerun here?

    • KinersKornerman says:

You have to get a hanging change-up from Matt Wise.

      Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

  33. MetsRmilife says:

If they were anywhere else we would have 3 Hr’s tonight and Wright would have 3 on the season

  34. Nightlife says:

Jesus, how many homers has this freaking piece of crap park robbed us of?

  35. metchamp78 says:

That scoreboard has robbed the Mets of two mammoth homers

  36. CitizenSnips says:

    When you need a car
    Truck or van
    Who ya gonna call?!

  37. metchamp78 says:

Is it too early to care about the Philthies? Tim Redding is working on a shutout. 1-0 Nats in the seventh. It is early but I do want them to lose 160 games. Thats just me.

  38. Nightlife says:

Man, Beltran and Wright are freaking smoking the ball so far this season.

  39. cousinrk says:

See avoid the scoreboard and you get yourself a homer. Its so easy guys

  40. MetsRmilife says:

Even when we get one its questionable

  41. huge_mets_fan11 says:

    Clearly a homer

  42. Steve.P says:

God, I love this. This is a good excuse to justify getting MLB Extra Innings.

    Wait, they brought it back?!?!?!

  43. Nightlife says:

    This is seriously ridiculous.

  44. CitizenSnips says:

If the ball hit the bar it was obviously over. What is so hard about that?

  45. wolverine193 says:

The umpires during this series have been abortions

  46. cousinrk says:

Get out of here. What could they possibly say to justify changing the call?? Who could have been closer to make that call? That’s garbage. If it hit below the line dopes, it wouldn’t have bounced that high. These umpires are horrible.

When does spring training for the Umpires end??

  47. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Stupid annoucers, they are feeling bad for umps, if you can’t tell, why reverse it?

  48. FBones24 says:

I guess Beltran is walking the walk so far.

  49. therealsince86 says:

I still ask, what does it take to hit a homerun here?

  50. Nightlife says:

Jesus, even the Marlin fans are saying it was gone.

    • KinersKornerman says:

That was horrible. the bar is three inches behind the wall. It’s gotta be a homer. Now I’m really worried about this game. Karma is against us tonite

  51. beltransmole says:

The Marlins feed just interviewed a Marlins fan sitting right behind the wall saying it hit the metal bar behind the wall. Terrible call.

  52. Nightlife says:

Now watch, Ollie will come undone, and we end up losing 6 to 5.

  53. 7 Train says:

Time for instant replay to be implemented on home runs.

  54. Met_Zombie says:

Willie had a great oppourtunity to make the highlight reel…

    • atrain311 says:

I agree. That would be a great way to show it is a new year, a new style and a new start.

    • beltransmole says:

In a close game, maybe. They have a 5-run lead so it’s clearly not worth getting thrown out of the game at this point.

  55. farb09 says:

varitek lost one to a bad call last night in the sox game. but that was sort of a difficult call, unlike this no-brainer. instant replay is clearly a necessity.

    • beltransmole says:

It would be different if they called it a double from the start. The fact that they ruled it a HR then changed the call is BS.

    • Nightlife says:

Yeah, I really don’t get why they can’t implement it for home run calls only.

  56. metchamp78 says:

a little off topic, but I there is something about the Nationals that tells me they are going to be a problem for the “favored” NL East teams.

    • atrain311 says:

They’ve got a nice club over there and they’ve got guys with stuff to prove and nothing to lose. That can be dangerous.

      • thrilledge 4 prez says:

thrilledge is already the face of the franchise with zim…i go 2 school in maryland and get all the games – they have him in all the commercials and talk about him constantly on MASN (their version of SNY)

  57. beltransmole says:

Marlins announcers Castillo “Louie” is starting to annoy me.

  58. Nightlife says:

What the hell was that guys? Come on Luis, you know that NEVER works.

  59. AdrianoMG6 says:

lol willie and beltran put up quite a fight with the umps!! do these guys have any desire or fire in them? they are non chalant all the time. no wonder they blew a 7 game lead to end the season last year!

    • beltransmole says:

Like I said above, in a close game they would have put up more of a stink. With a 5-run lead you probably let those go.

    • MetsRmilife says:

At some point neither of them know for sure that ball was out. It is very easy to watch a dozen replays then say how could they not make a stink. Personally I think they should have right or wrong but as we have all seen it is just not Wilie’s style to show that fire.

  60. Met_Zombie says:

Willie should of came out as soon as the Marlins manager did.

    • beltransmole says:

They ruled it a HR initially. There was no reason for him to argue at first.

  61. Lord Donkey says:

Willie should have at the very least donked the umpire after making that call.

  62. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Exactly because even though you can’t really tell from the dugout if it was a homerun or not, the fact that they changed it should be a reason to go crazy.

  63. Nightlife says:

Come on Ollie. I was hoping to not see Hanley with men on base this inning.

  64. metchamp78 says:

Last year Perez would give up a homer in this spot. Lets see where he’s at this year

    • Nightlife says:

Big K by Ollie. That was totally a situation where he would cough up a big hit last season and be out of the game two batters later.

  65. AdrianoMG6 says:

exactly, after they changed it willie shoulda at least shown some anger or something and argued it. all he did was look at the ump and didn’t really put up an argument

    • therealsince86 says:

I agree, fire Willie for not wanting to get thrown out and make a fool out of himself up 5-0 vs. the Marlins in the 3rd game of the year.

    • zen says:

willie is an adult not a 14 year old mets fan with anger issues. get over it. the players are professionals they don’t need the manager to go crazy on the field. it’s foolish argument that started last year. torre has 4 rings without doing it.

    • hyperion4 says:

Why, just to make you feel better? Willie throwing a tantrum isn’t going to make the team play any better.

I’d rather have Willie and the Mets just say, you know, we’re a good team, we’re going to win anyway. Forget about it.

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

…and ever since willie jogged out of the dugout clamly to talk with the ump, the mets just looked like they had no energy because they weren’t insipired by their manager. Hell they almost gave the game away after willie didn’t throw a temper tantrum on the field. Damnit Willie!

  66. AdrianoMG6 says:

ollie pitched outa the jam! why on earth is smith warming up in the 5th with ollie holding a 5 run run??? no wonder the bullpen collapsed last year! willie overuses them all the time!

    • therealsince86 says:

      What is ollie’s pitch count?

    • Nightlife says:

Remember all those times last year when Ollie was pitching and we maybe had a lead, and he was just cruising along then all of the sudden there would be an error and the next thing you know hes walking off the mound and we are down by 5 runs?

  67. MetsRmilife says:

There we go ollie. Hey maybe we will hit another HR this inning it’ll have to be 7 or 8 rows deep to count though

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

No the next one will hit the upper deck seats bounce back on the field and the umps will say, no it hit the roof, no HR.

  68. dj_kurioo says:

has anyone noticed that the marlins have the worst commentators in the world. they make fun of the mets like the marlins are the best team in the world.. what a bunch of dumb asses

    • beltransmole says:

Wait until you watch a Braves home game. Talk about trashing the Mets.

Agreed, these guys are terrible though. When Ramirez was just up they were interviewing Vandenkirk in the bullpen when Ramirez had a called strike on a check swing. They said “even Vandenkirk can see from the bullpen that he didn’t swing.”

Coincidentally they didn’t go to him for his take on the Beltran HR/non-HR.

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

Your right about them thinking the Marlins are the best team in the world. But they do say the Mets are a good team, they just make fun of the Mets for last year’s collapse.

    • Nightlife says:

Oh, we’ve all noticed. I think the most annoying is the insistence of using nicknames for all Marlins players and never criticizing their players for stupid players. Another example, during the game on Monday, I think, there was question about Ramirez’s defense and they kind of avoided saying that he was even mediocre at SS because hes “so fast”. Hanley is probably the worst defensive short stop in baseball (save for Jeter of course).

      • Nightlife says:

For stupid plays that is, well, and stupid players too :) (I’m looking at you Scott Olsen).

  69. dwrightisgod says:

i think one thing that has gotten lost this offseason in the whole johan sweepstakes, pedro being healthy and then subsequent injury and john maines dominating spring is the fact that ollie perez has the ability to be just as good if not better than any of them. he has immense talent.

    • AdrianoMG6 says:

this is not a revelation. Ollie has been a stud since Omar traded for him! He delievered in the playoffs as well and against the Yanks and Braves. Willie’s short leash with him is what annoys mets fans

  70. beltransmole says:

    5 H, 0 ER, 7 K

Nice debut for O.P. so far.

  71. ccmetfan says:

better than johan’s start so far if ollie can pitch till the 7th

  72. metchamp78 says:

    Ryan Church can rake. Period.

  73. therealsince86 says:

I love the Milledge for Church and Schnieder trade. How often do you hear that here? You will hear it more and more.

    • thrilledge 4 prez says:

post it when he goes 0-4 with 3 k’s and 8 LOB……if u have to try to justify a trade after 2 games, it most likely wasnt a good deal.

  74. beltransmole says:

Reyes looking good so far this year. That ball was smoked!

  75. mrmet it is says:

After pedro last night….this is just what the doctor ordered. I have to hand it to Ollie. We really needed this. just give two more solid innings.

Church, Pagan, Schneider all contributing…good stuff…

    and Beltran is on FIRE!!!!!

  76. Met_Zombie says:

Can’t decide if I want the Nationals to win or Phili. Im thinking its easier to catch the nationals.

    • beltransmole says:

Can’t decide? Here’s a hint, root for Washington. 3-0 is a nice start but they’re not exactly going to run away with this division.

    • metchamp78 says:

I say put as many losses on the Phils now while those bats sleep. The nationals will catch up to their losses in the summer.

  77. mrmet it is says:

Tim Redding blanking the phils for one hit at Citizens bank…..
    TIM REDDING?!?!?

  78. backinbusiness says:

Everyone moaning about the offense all day must feel a bit sheepish right now.

Go Nats Go. P.S. CarGo just got another hit.

  79. cousinrk says:

42 doubles in the worse hitters park on the worse hitters team in the league. That was Church. He’ll be just fine.

And the Phillies can’t lose enough for me. I’m annoyed when the don’t lose on their off days

  80. atrain311 says:

    BOOM!!!

  81. beltransmole says:

I knew that ball was gone before he even swung the bat. He couldn’t have hung that ball any more.

  82. MetsRmilife says:

    TRY CALLING THAT ONE BACK!

  83. CitizenSnips says:

    BOUT TIME!

  84. Nightlife says:

    HOLY CRAP!

    A HOME RUN!?

    OMG

  85. metsfan81 says:

finally found a way to get one out of the park!!!!

  86. mr.gee21 says:

If only we had some offense…

  87. AdrianoMG6 says:

    Wow! Wright is locked in!

  88. therealsince86 says:

This offense is completely broken, broken the game open that is.

  89. backinbusiness says:

    Third time’s a charm, David.

  90. AdrianoMG6 says:

Who wants to bet that Willie uses Wagner today just to get him reps??

  91. Met_Zombie says:

    booyah

  92. cousinrk says:

Gary Cohen has already called two balls homers and been wrong, he was so gun shy on that one. He waited so long to call that one.

  93. Steve.P says:

    Blast!!

What is that, HR # 3 for DW tonight?!

  94. Nightlife says:

Jesus DWrights slugging % is gotta be off the charts right now.

  95. metchamp78 says:

    David Wright says F(orget)-U scoreboard!!!

  96. dj_kurioo says:

hope he gets the cicle haha

  97. Moses69 says:

OMG !!!, NO DOUBT THAT TIME

Lets see the umpires bring that back.

  98. MetsFanInVegas says:

Hopefully 10 runs (maybe more) tonight is enough for everybody to calm down a little bit with that “no offense” talk. Told you it was the 2nd game and people were freaking out already.

    • Nightlife says:

I said the same thing after the game last night too. Be ready for A LOT more doomsday posts coming fourth this season. A lot of people don’t understand the way a baseball season works.

  99. atrain311 says:

Like I wrote in another spot earlier…they need to have the mentality that they don’t evn need Pedro.

  100. zen says:

amazing that the ‘i hate willie’ half-wits are already out…in a 10-0 game no less. g-d mets fans have fallen off over the years.

granted fla is a triple a team, but the line-up looks patient and potent so far. santana, ollie, and maine may be enough for now with the braves and phils pen issues

    • AdrianoMG6 says:

Ya but those teams don’t have the WIllie Issues! wich is the key element for them!

      • zen says:

        you’re one of the half-wits

        • gipper913 says:

Says the man incapable of basic capitalization and punctuation. Perhaps you love Willie so much because you share in his befuddlement over the concept of the double-switch? ;-)

        • zen says:

incapable or indifferent on a blog? duh. you are one of the leaders of the half-wits. :)

  101. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Lol, the annoucers are acting like the Pedro news is breaking news.

  102. beltransmole says:

And he does it with the glove too!!!

  103. atrain311 says:

    Wooooooo!

  104. mr.gee21 says:

Gold Glove MVP! (yeah, I know, game three…)

  105. cousinrk says:

I have such a man crush on DWright

  106. Nightlife says:

    Gold Glove baby.

  107. metchamp78 says:

    David is on fire

  108. AdrianoMG6 says:

Willie before pedro’s start told him to throw the ball like he was 27 again. Hmmm, maybe this is why pedro got hurt? he forced too much out of his windup and his body couldn’t handle it. Great thing to say to Pedro who is not the same pitcher as he was 10 years ago willie! Next thing u know he’s gona tell Alou to steal bases every chance he gets!

  109. huge_mets_fan11 says:

    MVP! MVP! MVP!

  110. cousinrk says:

Yes, you solved it what a genius you are, that’s why Pedro got hurt because WIllie told him to throw like he was 27. Can we PLEASE have an IQ test administered before each post??

    • AdrianoMG6 says:

U don’t tell a pitcher like pedro to throw the same motion as he did when he was 27, especially after he’s coming off surgeries and missed most of 07 and 06. That’s just plan ignorant!

  111. metchamp78 says:

Bottom ninth in Philly top of the order up against John Rauch

  112. Nightlife says:

The Marlins announcers did not just compare DWrights defense to Miguel Cabereras. Unbelievable, Errors are not an accurate measure of one’s defensive abilities.

    • hyperion4 says:

I’m listening, and the Marlins announcers didn’t say anything about Wright’s defense that wasn’t sensible. Wright is becoming an excellent 3B, but he’s not the best in the NL. Once he cuts down on the silly throwing errors, he might be.

      • Nightlife says:

Well they implied that if Wright won the Gold Glove than Cabrera should of had a shot too based on errors, which is just plain stupid . Wright was the sixth best third basemen in baseball last year in terms of the plus/minus system (5 of the top 6 where in the NL). Cabrera was rated the third worst 3rd basemen in the same system. Wright wasn’t the best third basemen defensively last season, but he was among the best, and certainly MUCH better than Caberera.

  113. cousinrk says:

And I always thought Yankee fans were the uneducated ones, but you read some of these posts and you have to rethink that view. Pedro got hurt because he’s in his 30’s and he’s brittle, that’s it. Take away all the steroid users and you can see in baseball history players don’t excel in their mid to upper 30’s and 40’s…especially pitchers.

    • Nightlife says:

Exactly. I loved that quote from Pedro when he said he had never used steroids in S/T firing back at sports writers who called him a prima donna because he had to take a lot of time since he has a small frame and gets the most out of it while pitching.

    • AdrianoMG6 says:

Before u post, go look at pedro’s windup when he got hurt! he clearly used a much faster motion and follow through then he should have been using at this point in the season.

      • darkstar73 says:

dude, do you actually think Pedro would suddenly change how he throws just because Willie said something to him? really? do you think Pedro is that stupid?

  114. ccmetfan says:

two outs in bottom ninth in phillie
    Nats 1-0

  115. mr.gee21 says:

Way to go bottom of the order.

  116. ccmetfan says:

    nats win 1-0

  117. backinbusiness says:

Phillies held to 1 hit by the Nats…
Nady should have an RBI opp in the Brave game…
11 for us in the 7th, Schneider hitting .400, OP looking sharp…

Maybe we’ll make it after all.

  118. Met_Zombie says:

Now time for Atlanta to blow it.

  119. beltransmole says:

    Our first glimpse of Figueroa.

  120. backinbusiness says:

OK, if Figgy is, he’s not starting until 4/12, right? Willie is making me happy this season.

  121. AdrianoMG6 says:

Figgy should be used as the long middle reliever this year, kinda like Oliver from a few years back. Willie wasn’t thinking that tho going into the final roster cuts! we have no reliever in this role once Figgy goes back into the starting rotation! Our bullpen will be shot by the final month!

    • UncleMuscles says:

one team one million and one GM’s

    • thats sosa, as evidenced yesterday.

    • MetsRmilife says:

Who’s place should he take in the bullpen?

      • AdrianoMG6 says:

um Matt Wise comes to mind!

        • MetsRmilife says:

So based on two bad performances you are willing to release a guy (He is out of options) who pitched great last year till he hit a guy in the face for a pitcher who has barely cracked a big league roster and pitched in Mexico last year.

    • metchamp78 says:

Jorge Sosa is the long an out of the pen. He is better than Figgy. How could our bullpen be shot by the end of the month when only 5 of the 7 have pitched? Show pitched to TWO batters. Feliciano is making his first appearance now and Wagner has yet to pitch.

Yeah Willie is totally wasting the pen and you are just looking for an argument

      • AdrianoMG6 says:

dude willie has like 3 roles for Sosa! u can’t use a reliever like that! he’ll be tired eventually. Just like last year. Sosa can’t be the long reliever and the 7th inning guy as well!

        • metchamp78 says:

The “role” is get the batter out!!!! Wagner, Heilman and Feliciano have roles. Everyone else when your number is called get the batter out. Period.

    • therealsince86 says:

You mean like Sele last year? The guy that we never used?

  122. Met_Zombie says:

    A rod 2 run shot

  123. AdrianoMG6 says:

Figeroa was drafted by the mets back in the late 90’s right? didn’t he get traded to the marlins?

    • AdrianoMG6 says:

He was drafted 833rd overall by the New York Mets in the 30th round of the 1995 MLB Draft and was subsequently traded along with outfielder Bernard Gilkey to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Jorge Fábregas, Willie Blair and cash considerations

  124. hyperion4 says:

Figueroa just hit 90 on the gun — I thought his fastball couldn’t break a pane of glass. Marlins go down 1-2-3.

    • bigfan says:

wierd, the braves lined up their top starters for this weekend against us, when was the last time that happened?

      • helicopter ben johnson says:

i think they did it last year – but our pitchers are still better

  125. AdrianoMG6 says:

lol of course Willie Yanks Figgy after one inning! There are no set roles with willies pen. It’s like a jigsaw puzzle. Man i miss Bobby V!!

    • MetsRmilife says:

I just miss there always being a chance of him showing up in disguise

    • bigfan says:

hes a young guy willie had to go to his guy of course, but in all seriousness he probably wants to get him some work with the off day and the series with the braves coming up

    • metchamp78 says:

Figgy is a starter by the way, not a reliever. He will be the 5th starter on april 12th.

    • backinbusiness says:

do you think that feliciano should never ever pitch?

      • AdrianoMG6 says:

He should have pitched in one or both of the first games where we needed him! not in the third game up 10! lol. only willie would do that

        • therealsince86 says:

He would have pitched last night to the top of the order if the game had been extended.
Why am I responding to you? Is your middle name cocaine or caffine?

        • AdrianoMG6 says:

lol oh so ur logic is use matt wise before him? by then it was too late bro!

        • therealsince86 says:

Why would you use a LHP against the bottom of the lineup with all RH hitters? If Wise is on the team then that is exactly when he should be pitching. If Willie would have brought in Pedro or Wagner you would have been saying the same thing.

  126. AdrianoMG6 says:

did Bobby V ever put in Franco or Wendell in the game up 10?? or use Cook in the 4th one game then put him in clutch spots the next, like willie does with Sosa? i doubt that

    • Buddy, how many screen names have you had by now?

      • AdrianoMG6 says:

i’ve always had this sn bro

      • therealsince86 says:

This can’t be the same guy, the other guy was at least a little bit intelligent and made you think with some of his post. This guy makes me think a lot of things with his post but nothing about baseball. He may start a riot on here, if he continues I will be forced to send the same guys I sent last night to onehitwonders house.

        • AdrianoMG6 says:

I only speak the truth. Most mets fans already know that Willie can’t manage a Pen if his life depended on it. I guess u are in the very few minority who feel he can.

        • UncleMuscles says:

do it! do it! do it!

        • therealsince86 says:

It is not his strong point, however it was blown out of porportion last year due to lack of options. He does have other redeeming qualities however. He is not the best but he is more than adequate.

        • AdrianoMG6 says:

It’s the main reason why we blew it since he’s been here! ur satisfied with a manager that can’t manage a pen?? lol are u willie in disguise?

        • therealsince86 says:

Yes. Are you ingnorance without a disquise?

        • AdrianoMG6 says:

na that would willie as well

  127. wolverine193 says:

I’m thoroughly convinced those phone in questions are just taped audio.

    • MetsRmilife says:

I think it is just to keep Keith entertained and remotely sober in blowouts

      • wolverine193 says:

Are you kidding? Keith HATES the call-in segment. That’s the best part, the tension that builds in the booth

  128. wolverine193 says:

I have to say, as much as I can’t stand the guy, Delgado seems to have an extra hop in his step this season. Hopefully he’s completely zoned in for his contract year.

  129. Jayperez says:

    sooo……..no power huh

  130. AdrianoMG6 says:

    lol wagner is in!!

    • therealsince86 says:

I guess you would have him pitching tomorrow right?

    • MetsRmilife says:

      And hitting 97

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

You have to get someone that hasn’t worked since last week some work. These guys have been resting all off season and need to some work. If a pitching arm didn’t need work and just rested, why do they pitch in spring training?

  131. AdrianoMG6 says:

Bobby v would always have Benitez throwing in 13-0 games!

    • therealsince86 says:

Where is Bobby V right now? He has to be managing a great team here in the US right? Or is it only you that recognizes that he is a great manager? And yes being that Wagner is the only pitcher that has not pitched and we have an off day tomorrow most managers would have pitched their closer there to get some work in. I guess you did not know that he would have had to have a bullpen session today if he had not pitched.

  132. AdrianoMG6 says:

i’m out. i don’t t hink i can stomach following another season of Willie.

    • therealsince86 says:

Fine I was tired of you following me around anyway. I was getting ready to get a restraining order. Can you send me your address so we can keep in touch? By the way what is the new address for Yankee tool?

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

Cya, we win a great game, 13-0 and you have to complain about how Willie used the bullpen tonight? If you ask me he did a great job tonight.

      • AdrianoMG6 says:

Feliciano and Wagner should never be in this sitution in the third game of the year where they need to pitch in a game where we are up 13-0. It’s bad managing. All goes back to the first two games where willie doesn’t have set roles for his pen for the second year in a role

        • gottabeliev4evr says:

Oh, and one more thing: Skanks Suck!

        • therealsince86 says:

Hello ignornace my name is Willie. It’s nice to finally meet you. I am so glad you came out of the closet. Hey wait a minute stop talking about my jock. Backoff, allright that’s it, your not funny anymore.

    • gottabeliev4evr says:

So do us all a favor and root for some other team!

      • AdrianoMG6 says:

so it’s my fault that my teams manager can’t manage a pen? i’m a realist, and don’t hide and make excuses like some fans.

        • zen says:

you’re not a realist. you’re dumb. big difference.

        • therealsince86 says:

Now you are a realist too? So maybe Ignorant Yankee Tool was not your real name? You have been lying to us all along. I think i have it now. You Realistically are an ignorant Yankee Tool.

        • AdrianoMG6 says:

          once again, witty arguments!

  133. gottabeliev4evr says:

This, Mets fans, is a G-D statement game!

Oh, but, I know, they’re just like last year, right? Only three guys in the lineup can hit. Reyes isn’t so great. Delgado’s finished….Here’s hoping the moronic posts stop, and that the eternal complainers and disloyal boobs find some other team to root for.

  134. AdrianoMG6 says:

lol it’s funny how some fans are h appy about the collapse and find no fault in the manager or any players

    • therealsince86 says:

I thought you were gone, I am really starting to look for that restraining order now.

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

Oh yeah I was so happy when we blew the biggest lead in baseball history. I was doing cartwheels in my house. This isn’t last season buddy, it a whole new season.

  135. gottabeliev4evr says:

Oh, yes, the collapse was the best!

So happy Willie made it happen!

  136. cousinrk says:

Its also funny how some fans think they know more than the professionals do and seem to be experts on arm angles and pitching motions and seem to know every correct move to make even though there is a reason they are sitting home watching the game on tv instead of implementing their incredibly insightful ideas on the major league level

    • AdrianoMG6 says:

it’s funny how some fans argue points without having any facts to support their argument

  137. AdrianoMG6 says:

the way u all are supporting willie makes me think that u were blind as to why the collapse happened! wake up mets fans, willie’s managing is the same this y ear and he will doom us again! hopefully Minaya fires him before it’s too late! Maybe Jery Manuel has a clue on how to manage a pen!

    • therealsince86 says:

So when are you going to change your screen name? We have already figured out who you are. “Realistic Ignorant Yankee Tool” Was that screen name already taken? Maybe that’s why you are spouting off such nonsense, Maybe Matt can help get that name back for you.

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

Dude go back to a couple of days after the collapse and check the comments section. I think you’ll notice that everyone was pissed and mostly pissed at Willie. But he is still here and I have had no complaints with the way he has managed so far. Plus why complain when we win a game 13-0?

  138. cousinrk says:

We arenj’t all supporting Willie, we just aren’t simple minded enough to believe its solely the managers fault. I tend to put some of the blame on the players, but I’m werid like that. And what does telling us that you’ve figured out how the Mets caused Pedro’s hammy injury by changing his delivery have anything to do with last year?? Dude please go to bed or something, give it a rest you are clueless

    • therealsince86 says:

Ok I really can’t figure out this guys name, now he is clueless? Ok here goes i hope I have it this time.
Realistically Clueless Ignorant Yankee Tool. That must be hard to sign.

  139. AdrianoMG6 says:

Willie shoulda never been extended his contract after the DEBACLE against the cards in 06. his managing of that series was exposed for the whole world to see except for the front office. Man i wish for the day that the MEts have a front office that knows what they are doing. That day is not here yet. A title cannot be won by a guy who has no knowledge of managing a pen. That’s the bottom line. I’m a big mets fan, but i’m just sadly telling it how it is. I’m sure some of u will post responses saying willie wasn’t at fault, etc.. But the facts speak for themselves. The writing is on the wall. Deep down u all know this. Some choose to acept it tho, and some choose to ignore it and masquerade it. TTYL

    • huge_mets_fan11 says:

Dude do you even read our responses or are typing an essay about how much Willie is a bad manager?

    • therealsince86 says:

Last logical question i will ask you as it is apparent that you are a tool. Do you think that Torre knows how to manage a pen?

      • AdrianoMG6 says:

What does that have to do with willie? i don’t follow the yanks as much, but based on what i saw of tore last year, i thought he did a poor job of managing the season.

        • therealsince86 says:

Answer the question. You said you can’t win a title with a manager that can does not handle the bullpen well. That means you are obviously a baseball fan that has been watching the game for years.

Do you think that Torre knows how to manage a pen?

        • AdrianoMG6 says:

I think tore did a bad job last year with the pen. he did a better job when they won the titles. tore is washed up IMO

  140. cousinrk says:

ha ha. I noticed that, I think he’s got a script he writes from and just keeps following it without reading anything people write

  141. AdrianoMG6 says:

some of u are going to post responses by using names like tool, and idiot etc. not surprised by some people’s arguments.

    • therealsince86 says:

Again, when you stopped being rational so did I.

      Answer the question
Do you think that Joe Torre knows how to manage a pen?

      • AdrianoMG6 says:

as i stated above, he KNEW how to. he’s not the same manager anymore. He’s willie randolph like now

        • therealsince86 says:

So he forgot how? Joe has never managed a bullpen well in his life but seems to have a WS. In fact he has more than the great Tony who manages his bullpen well. I wonder why, could it be that he had more talent? The bullpen is just one part of many for a manager.

        • AdrianoMG6 says:

tore had lock down guys in set roles when the yanks won titles. When he actually had to manage last year, he struggled, just like Willie does. He overuses guys, and has them in various roles, wich affects their mentality and performance overall.

  142. AdrianoMG6 says:

The media bashed tore’s decision making last year, yet didn’t do so with willie who was just as bad.

    • zen says:

when the mets win 13-0 fans don’t want to read through 50 moronic comments from you about something that was irrelevant to the game. the best teams lose 70 games a year. people want to enjoy the good one’s. wacko.

  143. AdrianoMG6 says:

wow they won tonight! does that mean willie is no longer a horific manager of the pen?

    • therealsince86 says:

Point is that the season is going to have some ups and downs no matter what. Why not save it for the down time? Do you get a thrill out of bashing a person or a team? We all admit that Willie struggles with the pen, I think he is already getting better. Choosing to use Show for only LH is a great step. We will see as the season goes on if he continues to learn. As a manager Willie is still a young very succesful manager that needs to take the next step.
We just get tired of the same post over and over again. It slows down the blog and diverts the intended topic.

      • AdrianoMG6 says:

still with the excuses! time has already proved that willie won’t change! deal with it! he is who he is!
