What happened with the recalled homerun of Beltran’s? Willie should’ve gotten himself booted arguing that BS call. Da Mets were already up six runs at that point; the team didn’t need his presence on the bench, but they did need to see their leader getting fired up and fighting for what is rightfully theirs.

The manager is largely a figurehead and, as such, Willie sucks. Willie likes to give the appearance of effortlessness at all times–cool hand, Will–and that’s fine for him. But Willie was a Yankee and effortlessness is the Yankees style. The style of the Mets, no matter how large the payroll has gotten (and it’s big), is fighting for everything they get: the underdog mentality, even when they are not actually the underdog. The Mets need to play as though every team in the league, even the Marlins, owes them something–even if it’s the Mets who, with revenue sharing, are helping to pad the coffers of smaller market teams.
