I think he meant freestyling. Maybe he didn't know that's what he meant, but I think it's what he meant.

My favorite Willie interview moment came after a game in which Mike Piazza hit a LONG, LONG home run. Afterwards, Willie said...

"Well, you know, Mike is prone to hitting those long, jamestic home runs."

I swear to you he said "jamestic."

I love Willie.

I don't think they'd push johan back, unless sunday's game is rained out...it'll already be 6 days, and he doesn't get bumped unless his day's gone.

You mean like continuing to pound on the Marlins last night?
Come on, I can't believe that anyone would want Willie to get ejected in that spot. Save it for when it matters.

Willie, willie, willie.

What happened with the recalled homerun of Beltran's? Willie should've gotten himself booted arguing that BS call. Da Mets were already up six runs at that point; the team didn't need his presence on the bench, but they did need to see their leader getting fired up and fighting for what is rightfully theirs.

The manager is largely a figurehead and, as such, Willie sucks. Willie likes to give the appearance of effortlessness at all times--cool hand, Will--and that's fine for him. But Willie was a Yankee and effortlessness is the Yankees style. The style of the Mets, no matter how large the payroll has gotten (and it's big), is fighting for everything they get: the underdog mentality, even when they are not actually the underdog. The Mets need to play as though every team in the league, even the Marlins, owes them something--even if it's the Mets who, with revenue sharing, are helping to pad the coffers of smaller market teams.

Reading those quotes I'm almost wondering if Willie's been free-basing, whatever about people freelancing.

Not only did he go with the "party" metaphor, but he said this about Perez:

"All of his pitches were crisp, and he stayed in his rhythm. That's the key for him, not freelancing like he tends to do."

For some reason, I laughed when I read "freelancing." Perez isn't a full-time salaried employee with health benefits; he's a freelance.
