Mets 3B David Wright will be a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman on April 14, according to a network press release.
…the last time wright appeared alone as a guest on letterman was the 2006 All-Star break, after which he hit just six home runs for the season…most people blame the Home Run Derby for the drought…i blame the yankee-loving letterman…
The Mets will host the final Opening Day at Shea Stadium today when they play the Phillies at 1 pm.
For complete coverage, read the Bergen Record, New York Post, Daily News, Newsday, New York Times, again Newsday, and the Star-Ledger, in which Dan Graziano talks with Howie Rose, Howard Johnson, David Wright and quotes me as saying:
“There are some nook-and-cranny things that make it your home, but those things will always exist in my mind.”
…i hear a lot from the press about how the press box is too small, among a variety of other complaints, so i continued on to explain to graziano, speaking about things that may bother fans, .e., things that will not be missed, saying…
“From the fan’s point of view, it’s a place where the seats are really small, it’s tough to get around, you’re waiting three innings to go to the bathroom or grab a hot dog … those kinds of things are really irritating.”
…which is why i am sad to see the historical landmark go, the place where such special memories occurred…however, i am not all too sad to see the physical building be replaced by a new building, which will begin a series of new memories in a place that will be much more comfortable to watch them from…
…to me, it’s like saying goodbye to an old friend who served a wonderful yet specific role in my life for a specific set of time, yet i know it’s time to move on…and while i am excited for what is next, i’m still sad to see the old friend go away…it’s sort of like graduating high school, or college, in that way, if that makes any sense…all the while, i know the future calls…
Speaking of the future, in the Daily News, Adam Rubin talks architecture and wind patterns while looking at whether Citi Field will truly be a pitcher’s park.

Tejeda, who was designated for assignment before the season started, is still available in a trade, “although there’s been little interest in him.”
Last week in Newsday, David Lennon wrote that the Mets have interest in Tejeda.
However, the same at ESPN.com, Jayson Stark wrote that the team had no interest in Tejada, nor David Wells or Jeff Weaver for that matter.
59 career starts for the Phillies and Rangers, the 25–year-old Tejeda is 14–17 with a 4.91 ERA.
He ended his rookie year with a 3.57 ERA in 26 starts for the Phillies, but has seen his ERA rise every season since.
…i think tejada would be a good pick up for the Mets, to add to Triple-A New Orleans…i don’t typically advocate acquiring these sorts of players, mostly because there are so many, and it would dominate my thought and blog…so i avoid it…tejeda, though, like Claudio Vargas, is just boiling over with raw talent…he has good command of his fastball, which can reach the high 90s…it’s his secondary pitches he struggles with…to me, he has hard-throwing reliever written all over him…
In a post to Mets Today, Joe Janish cites a variety of picthers, such as Chan Ho Park to Dave Williams, as to why he is so panicked about the Mets fifth starter spot.
…i hear you, joe…my only request is that you go back and look at the fifth starter for other teams who have been successful…for instance, in 2006, when the Cardinals won the World Series, they got regular-season starts from Chris Narveson, Sydney Ponson and Jeff Weaver, who was 5–4 with a 5.18 ERA…
At Always Amazin, Matt Artus believes today is the day the Mets must wake up and answer the bell after having started this season with a 2–3 record.
…i don’t know about today, specifically, matt, but they would be wise not to lose this series against the Phillies…
Speaking of 2–3, Mets Walk-offs takes a look back at past 2–3 starts, specifically 1968, as well as 1986, when the Mets beat the Phillies in the sixth game of the season to get back to .500.
