I second this comment. Unless there’s an injury here, I think Tejeda is the guy who can produce better results ultimately. Vargas is what he is at this point and I guess we’ll know more after tomorrow, but I doubt that he can give us that much more than Fiugeroa. Tejeda could be another Victor Zambrano, or he could be another Oliver Perez. When you’re talking about a fill-in starter, I’ll take potential.

I agree. I didn’t know he wasn’t with any team, but why is he available? That usually isn’t a good sign. But it’s a good point you bring up.

There were 7 runs on the board by the end of the 3rd. I’m not too concerned about failing to light up Durbin after that point.

The top 2 in the order have yet to get started this season. That’s what’s keeping the offense down – Beltran hit 7 doubles in the first 6 games and only got 1 RBI out of it. But Reyes is too talented and Castillo too professional for their slumps to last long enough to be a real problem.

Not that they are mutually exclusive, but i would take Robinson Tejeda over Vargas.

Vargas is more experienced and has a higher floor. But Tejeda has a higher ceiling is only 26 and was decent in his year with Philly and first yr with Texas. Something went terribly wrong last year, but he is worth a shot getting in the organization on a minor league deal. He has a decent arm.
