…well, Nelson Figueroa retired the first 14 batters of the game, and i was getting a bit excited…for what it’s worth, i’m thinking no-hitter from the first pitch of every game…which, for all i know, is why the team has never thrown a no-no…of course, that would mean it is some one else’s fault for this first 20 years or so of the organization’s history…
…nevertheless, i started dreaming of the story, with brooklyn’s figueroa, the Mets fan, snapping the streak…then, rip down the line, base hit…ugh…
…so close…still, though, he’s looking good so far…

we were all with you matt…it would have been more exciting than if santana acomplished the feat….for those of you who arent able to watch sny, you missed something great when kevin burkhardt interviewed nelson’s father…it made me proud to own 14 mets jerseys and to have the orange and blue tattooed on my back. lets go mets!
phew! I thought I was to blame for the last 27 years. I always try to ignore that voice in my head but there’s no shutting it up!
I think “perfect game” every game ’til the 1st
walk , then “no hitter” “til the first hit.
I hope nothing keeps me away
from seeing the first Met one live.
wtf happened to reyes, we need him, we dont have a back up!!!
I hate to say it but I’m pretty certain no Met will ever throw a no-hitter. Definite Ryan curse. :(
ugh SHUT UP COHEN
problem nascar nancy?
umm, at what?
apparently she didnt like my first comment, where i enjoyed the nelson figueroa story.
A) It wasn’t about you, I was venting frustration because Gary Cohen had just finished saying some stat about how Fielder was in his biggest slump and sure enough next pitch he gives up an RBI Double. Another Cohen Jinx
B) Nascar? What?
my sincerest apologies. im the ass.
it was actually the first 14 batters of the game.
RIght on! I was having the same dream.
Wow, what a plug!!!
…but he emphasises it wrong.
Its metsblog, not mets blog. Oh well.
Its ok as long as its his good buddies saying it.
Holy $#!%
DId I hear just hear Gary doin a Metsblog ad with a graphic on SNY! Maybe i’m late on this (1st time Ive seen it). Wow congratulations Matt & the guys, this site has come a long way. Although I don’t know any of you, as a longtime visitor ,I can’t help but to feel proud. Keep up the great job
I’m thinking Figueroa could’ve pitched one one inning. Willie and this 6 and out routine is getting old fast. Great start for Nelson. I was dreaming of the back pages and espn about a possible no-no. Brooklyn born coming back to pitch for his favorite team. He watched the mets and played RBI Baseball for Nintendo just like I did back in the day. I was glued to the tv……still am as always. Lets Go Mets!
reyes?
Tightness in the hammy. Doesnt seem luke too big of a deal. Looks like just a percaution.
metsblog creator and catetaker matt cerrone has officially arrived and he is gary cohens buddy
reyes has a tight hammy….also why is prince fielder so fat? aren’t veggies supposed to be healthy?
Are the Mets going to wear the blue pinstripes this year?
I hope so. These black uniforms are horrendous.
note, Pagan is awesome.
what ever happened to the “ditch the black” movement? i’m on board!
What are we going to do with Pagan? I know Alou is great but still……..
Ahhhh…..what a good problem to have.
2 big innings ended by dps-still im starting to feel good about this team-come on heilman!
NEW YORK — Jose Reyes left Friday night’s game against the Brewers with tightness in his left hamstring. There was no immediate indication as to the severity of the injury.
Reyes grounded into a double play in his third at-bat, then played one more half-inning at shortstop. Yet when his teammates took the field for the top of the sixth inning, Reyes was not among them, instead replaced at his position by backup infielder Damion Easley.
How about Coney with his off color comment on the Yes telecast the other night? Watching a game on YES (during SNY commerical) is a real snoozer. Thank goodness for our guys in the booth. A joy to watch.
Come on Billy!
Give Nelson a win!
The Mets played a great game. It’s refreshing to see such a crisp game. Our guys had great pitching, timely hitting, and a solid D. Figueroa added a real feel-good element to the night. Let us hope Reyes is ok and on to Johan’s debut tomorrow afternoon.
Santana
Maine
Perez
Figueroa
Pelfrey
love it
Yeah, and when Pedro comes back, I’d love to see Figs move down to the 5 spot. Unless Pelfrey blows us away, which as a pessimistic Met fan, I feel he won’t.
Nice win for Figueroa!
Brooklyn born, grew up a Met fan, plus, he’s got every vowel in his last name.
y?
i was out for a girlfriend function and was following over blackberry.
if he would have thrown the no-no i might have died. or killed her. perhaps this is better.
“so close”? games are 9 innings not 6. but i’ll admit being there i felt there was something special going down, considering the way the fog was rolling in and the fact that figueroa beat out the bunt (even though he didn’t run at the start – twice)
