I guess it shows how young the fans are who frequent this blog that you were the only one who remembers Cone’s infamous incident in the bullpen. It was the first thing that came to mind after hearing what he said on YES. What a crazy bunch those Mets were!

I live in CHI. And I am incredibly pissed that my Mets are playing 2 games at Wrigley this year.

Anyone who is a Mets fan and is maybe 35 and over, will remember the days when the Mets shared the division with the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. I miss having them in the same division as the Mets.

In the mid to late 80′s there were some good division races with the Cubs and Cards. And a decent rivalry. And both those franchises have such rich histories (even if a losing one in the Cubs case) and terrific fan bases. Since divisional re-alignment playing those teams just hasn’t been the same.

It was nice too to have 2 great cities like NYC and Chicago playing in the same division playing each other 18 times a year…. Plus I miss the Mets playing in Wrigley Field 9 games every year with daytime games as well. Ahh the old days when I was young(er)!

I never read Bondy’s Mets articles, because I know he’s an obnoxious Yankee fan. In fact, I don’t read most sports columnists anymore, because the truth is they don’t know any more than we do about the team and their opinions are no better than ours.

I look for results and draw my own conclusions about what I see.

You’re right. Only the Mets thought it was a rivalry. The Braves never did, and probably still don’t.
