For the minors, it is shocking, but is it possible that the panic over the Met's system being totally barren was overblown?

A lot of thse guys are 21-22 in AA, a nice age to break out and really become serious prospects.

I haven't really analyzed the big 3, and also keep in mind that Defense will be a big concern, but there is hope.

Somehow, I don't see them using a rreal rookie in 1B and LF next year, but who knows. It could really retool this team as a force for years to come, even if 2009 could be a little rocky!

I would love to see them fill 1B, and one of the other guys can become a back up OF/1B. Maybe even something like Carp and Evans platoon at 1B, and also get OF rotation time?

More likely, 1 guy (hopefully) wins a job, and the others either get another year to develop, or they end up going in a trade to fill another hole.

Remember, besied Alou and Delgado, they also have to replace Esley and ANderson.

Well, on the comments issue, you can also try self-policing by tthe community (think Craig's list). Put a flag button, and if something bad does show up, other posters can flag it to the review pile.

But, anything you do will drastically cut down on the volume (if you really want to clean it up), although it seems that MB has way more comments than other sites.

I'm not looking for the longball, per se, but Olerud was sort of an anomaly. These days, your average NL team has to (for some reason) have a slugging first baseman. I also remember in ST the broadcasting team mentioning that the Mets were looking for more power output from a first baseman than Murphy was putting up. Granted, I like Murphy a lot, and if I was calling the shots (Matt, "One Team, One Million GM's" just about sums it up perfectly), he'd be heir apparent to Carlos Delgado. But it just looks like the Mets are not willing to go that route.

My problem is with all these people that just come on, and write so extremely you think the world was ending. Every little move by the mets(front office, managment, players) commentors come on and rip them apart. Then when someone disagrees with there rediculous comments they get offensive and thats where this anger comes from. This is not personal guys... relax and use this site for good.
plus Matt is the man and you dont wanna give him a bad name.

The B-Mets are giving Murphy some time at 1B as well. Between the 3 of them, there is a huge amount of potential for one of them to pan out. Carp has just been racking this first week of the season. These 3 in the middle of the lineup make the B-Mets look like a potential offensive powerhouse.

Once the THM can get going, this team could be firing on all cylinders.

Don't over look pitching prospects Niese & Kunz on this squad either. Niese has also looked fantastic thus far. There's a lot of talent in Binghamton this season that could surprise Mets fans.
