with as well as Carlos Muniz and Joe Smith are pitching right now I make take advantage of the situation and option Heilman to AAA to become a starter.

I realize I have consistently scoffed at the idea of Heilman as a starter, as have any sensible fans here over the last two years… So I guess it my turn to bring up this stupid idea as a possible good one.

At the least if Dauner pitches well in the bigs, and Heilman continues to struggle it might make more sense in a few weeks.

Great news! I’m excited to see what Duaner does. The knock on him has always been that he’s lazy and took the game for granted. I’m betting that injuries keeping him away for nearly 2 years is going to make him hungry as hell. Go get ‘em Duaner.

It would be nice for our starters to go 7. An occassional 5 or 6 is ok, but the constant need to pull a guy after 5+ or 6 is going to hurt us later. It’s still early in the season. Let’s guys like Perez and Maine work themselves out of a jam when things are tight in the 5th, 6th or 7th innings. Unless their pitch count is nearing the 110s or 120s, let them pitch. The bullpen will thank u in August and Sept……and hopefully in October.

i hope us mets fans dont get all over him the first 1 or 2 times he struggles. we need to exercise patience with this guy- he hasnt pitched in the big leagues in a year and a half and im sure there will be some adjustments to be made

It’s too bad about Muniz. I like the way he goes after hitters and throws strikes. I’ll take a strike-thrower with decent stuff over someone with supposedly good stuff but erratic control (e.g. Sosa). I’d rather have Muniz with the club than Sosa, but I guess at this point Sosa is the only guy who resembles a long man (though I really think long men are overrated — it’s not often that a long man goes more than 2 or 3 innings anyway, and in an emergency you can always press your 5th starter into relief duty and then call someone up for a spot-start). One interesting possibility that Muniz’ emergence raises is that at some point, depending on how Sanchez performs, Heilman could be used as trade bait for hitting help, since lots of teams value him as a starter.

Yep Muniz but he made the most out of his stay…..he’ll get the next call up because of it

Looking forward to Duaner getting back…..if they can just get a rythym from the 7-9 with Sanchez, Heilman, Feliciano and Wagner

Also Smith has done pretty well but whenever Wise is ready he is down too

Team is trying to get depth. When all the arms are back and healthy AAA will have

Pelfrey, C.Vargas, J.Vargas, Armas Jr, Figueroa
Smith, Muniz, Rincon, Stokes, Burgos at some pt

Muniz even though he’s been pretty good. Most likely he’ll see time again this summer or September though and he certainly did well in his brief stint with the big club.
