Note: All Comments are Limbo
By Matthew Cerrone - Apr 14, 2008 10:53 am

…as i continue to work on cleaning up this site’s comments section and functionality, all comments will first go in to limbo and sit in moderation before being posted on the site…so, if you make a comment, but it does not immediately appear, it does not mean you have been banned…it means, like all comments, your statement is in queue, waiting for approval…

…i apologize for the inconvenience, and truly appreciate your understanding…

You gotta do what you’ve gotta do Matt. I’m sorry the comments have gotten this out of hand, but it’s important to keep things civil. It reflects badly on us all, and you in particular. If you let it go on it’s viewed as a tacit approval.

I wonder, do you have to go through all the comments yourself or are you using filter software?

Thanks for the heads up, Matt.

I understand that you are doing this out of necessity at this point, unfortunate as it is.

Hopefully, this will clear the way for reasonable debate between Mets fans.

    Kudos to you!

Matt I made some comments after Sunday’s game that I thought were spot on about the direction of the team such as the new stadium and ticket sales, bare minor league system, lack of fundamentals, no leadership, horrible bullpen management, no clue of ingame simple baseball strategy, and the lack of fire and motivation. For whatever reason you have deleted about 10 of my comments that were not racist or demeaning in any way. I just spoke the truth of the current state of the team which is under .500 over the last 120 games and is not going to improve. Everyone acts as if the Mets have been some kind of dynasty when that is simply not the case. 2006 seems like 10 years ago. This group has run its course and there needs to be change. Again this team as is will not finish above .500 this year. I know that is hard for some to accept but just look at the 120 games or so. Even with a healthy Pedro, El Duque, Sanchez, Alou this team is not good enough to get to the next level. The lack of fundamentals, leadership, fire, and motivation clearly holds this team back. The Mets are weak and soft and the rest of MLB knows this, until this changes the Mets will not.

I can understand your frustration. After all, this “horrible” team finished like 10 games out of first last year…oh wait….

Last year ended in September. This is a new season. Give the team a month. Then you can bash them all you want.

After all, I seem to remember fans booing Beltran on Opening Day of ‘06. And Wright the first month of ‘07. Jumping to conclusion, while possibly fans’ strong point, are comical.

Fantastic post! That just about sums it up. It’s not something that anyone wants to hear but it’s closer to the truth than a lot of people think.

This is the best addition to Metsblog since the polls.

Although, I’m a huge proponent of free speech I think it is your born-right to censor ANYTHING you believe is inappropriate, Matt. Your a fan like us and we trust your discernment with regards to anything posted on YOUR site.

Many people take privileges like free speech to spam and litter your board with garbage. This blog is the culmination of your hard work and dedication to a great pastime and the New York Mets.

I’ve made some angry comments that I regretted immediately afterwards and I would welcome a queue period and deletion if it contributes nothing other than venting to this :)

Thank you for your efforts in cleaning up the site, Matt. We all really appreciate it.

I think that there are many posters on this site that are just trying to make us real fans look foolish. Hopefully Matt will be able to filter out some of the trolls.

I support free speech as much as anyone (I work in radio), but I also know that sometimes the idiots have to be babysat.

Now, if you could only clean up the level of discourse at Shea. I don’t understand how fans — i.e., people that are supposed to root and support a team — can so consistently demean and disrespect that team.

People have the right to say what they wish at Shea — even stupid things — but people also can and should be judged by what they say and how they act.

As for this site, I absolutely support your decision to approve comments. This is not Shea; it is not a public forum.

Keep up the great work Matt.

Matt has created a wonderful site and has to do whatever he feels necessary to keep it’s image clean and professional.

It is sad to see so many of my old friends on here disappear. I still see a few but they don’t post anywhere near as much as they used to. I have been here since the begining and will prob. be here until the end. I am just affraid the way things are going that the end will come quicker than I thought. I guess I have even posted more than normal, I feel like I am defending the hopes of the Mets and the views of the normal fan. I am stubborn sometimes and end up taking offense to what I think are people ruining the best blog I have ever been a part of. I am not even one to blog, my wife can’t believe that I blog. However, I will continue to support Matt and all his efforts to keep this site going.

You got my support Matt… also, i didn’t notice it before but I love the “One Team, One Millions GM’s” line… classic

  12. DaveyS says:

It’s amazing that all the comments here support Matt, no real contradiction allowed…. good if you agree, bad if you want to actually debate.

    • MetsTank2008 says:

That’s what its come to…sadly, and if it continues you will see the popularity of this site go down the tubes. People aren’t on here for a onesided lovefest. They are on here to debate.

If you contradict Cerrone’s opinion, or point out bad things about the Mets…then your post gets rejected. It’s like a Metsblog cleansing of anyone who doesn’t side with the “Yay Mets” attitude. Life doesn’t work like that. When the team is playing bad, fans should be able to vent that here. But I’m sure this will get rejected also.

I read the post about the Angel Pagan wave too. And I disagreed with his view….saying its completely cheesy (and every Mets fan in my office also thought that it was beyond childish, and stupid. But I guess since we didn’t think it was cool….those posts got rejected too.
