Jordan,
Duda has looked like a good player so far. Combined with his impressive college career (at USC I believe) is he a legit prospect? If so, what is his eta? 2-3 years?
Duda showed a good eye and intelligent approach at the plate while in college, but struggled to consistently drive the ball. The Mets have sent a considerable amount of time with him since the draft retooling his swing, in an effort to increase the fluidity of his stroke and close up some of the holes. If he ever develops the power to go with the advanced approach, he’ll be a legitimate prospect.
Duda was a big HS prospect, but actually struggled a lot at USC. So he really has to prove himself, though he clearly is talented. As a 1B prospect, you want to see power, though being in St. Lucie won’t help. He’s already 22, so he’ll have to really earn his way up, and he may be blocked by Carp/Evans even if he deserves a bump up to Double A this year unless one of those two gets moved, as well.
Still, he certainly has a chance if he can continue to hit. The raw talent is there.
Thanks, Jordan
is it me or has AHern been tearing it up. Maybe he’s just a late bloomer and he’s going to be a stud one day. Ruben who?
don’t get too excited, Ahern does this every year, we all know he can hit AAA pitching, its major league pitching he struggles with.
I think A-Hern has just happened to get hits in the games that have been reported. The Zephyrs’ MiLB page says he’s batting .219/.231/.297 – in other words, badly.
hmm. So how about that Argenis Reyes, kid…
He’s also returned to somewhere close to his career hitting form… .260/.351/.320
Reyes is 25. Granted I know little about him, but the fact that he’s posted a lifetime OPS of .674 in the minors leads me to believe that he’s nothing more than an adequate AAA player.
If Carp, Evans & Murphy continue on anything like their current hot streak, and Martinez warms up to the level we all believe he’s capable of, that B-Mets team is going to be an unstoppable juggernaut on offense – they’ll put up more crooked numbers than donuts.
Carp currently leads the EL in avg, obp, slg & HR, Evans is second in slg and Murphy’s second in obp.
The B-Mets currently have four players with an OPS above 1.000, and that’s despite F-Mart’s slow start.
Who’d want to be a pitcher facing that bunch? Scary!
Can we please call up Tatis to replace Clark? All those home runs and RBI’s are being wasted down there.
thing is, Tatis did the same thing last year in AAA, but no one remembered that this spring, everyone kept busting on him, ridiculing the Mets for even considering him…
Yeah, I tried a few times to point that out while everyone was freaking out in ST. Didn’t help ;)
Well, to be honest, I was one of the ones ridiculing him. But only because of the fact that Gotay was put on waivers to clear a spot for a right-handed bat, which everybody assumed was going to be Tatis.
So the fact that Tatis isn’t with the team right now, and Clark is, is getting under my skin even more. Why keep a right-handed bat on the bench that can’t hit, nevertheless hit for power? Now that the Gotay thing is over and done with, why are we letting a versatile guy like Tatis (I believe he plays outfield AND infield postions), who hits for power, waste away in the minors while Brady Clark takes up space in the majors and is doing next to nothing productive.
To be strictly accurate, Tatis is a 3B who can stand in the outfield and snag balls hit straight to him, but that’s still not a big downgrade over Clark, while his bat is likely to be a big upgrade – and the bat’s more important anyway since we have 3 other bench players capable of playing the outfield.
I’m not sure we want to expose Tatis to the waiver wire when Alou comes back, the way he’s been hitting. I’d definitely think he should come up before Clark when the next outfielder goes down, though.
Wow I am impressed with Mike Carp so far. He is absolutely murdering the ball. Glad to see him back on track.
Mmmm hmmm. I remember the coaches talking about how impressed they were with him two years ago during spring training. I’d love it if he turned into Mike Jacobs part two, with better offensive numbers.
And a better glove, and a better eye. And hopefully not as slow :)
I think without all those injuries Carp would be up by now. What does everyone think of bringing up Carp next year and scrapping the idea of going after Texiera and going straight for pitching? :)
I’d like to see him get a couple of hundred ABs at AAA first, but the way he’s destroying the EL right now he could be amassing those fairly soon
