Heading south, bound for Section 428. See you all there…

  2. JKlein30 says:

Ahhh, 1st place, I forgot what that felt like this offseason

  3. kevinmets31 says:

LETS GO METS! Crush Jamie Moyer PLEASE!

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

…and if we don’t, everybody will say again that “the most we can be is a .500 team.” Lets try to avoid that please.

  4. TheHammer says:

Keep your fingers crossed that Ollie P has his best stuff today.

    • HOFMets57 says:

He usually fares well against the LH-heavy lineups of the Phillies and Braves. I’m expecting our lineup to defy history and finally bash Moyer today.

  5. Another Matt says:

Let’s hope Wright can repeat what Jose did against the Nats and do the cycle over two nights.

Ah, nuts to that… Wright for the cycle tonight!

And this should be a good game for Delgado to get going again. Nice clutch hit last night, now it’s time to continue that lifelong dominance of Moyer.

Might be Castillo’s best chance for a homerun this year too :P

  6. ToastyJoe says:

Thank god you wrote “toes the rubber” and not “tows.” I hate when people get that wrong.

  7. AlreadyMissShea says:

It will be interesting to see if the lineup changes while they are still in Philadelphia.

    From today’s New York Post:

Second baseman Luis Castillo was in the No. 8 spot in the order for the fourth game in a row, but Randolph said it will not be permanent.

“I like the way it looks and I like the flow [with Castillo batting eigth], but Luis is still my #2 hitter,” Randolph said before Castillo went 0-for-4 to drop his season average to .222.

Looks like Willie is going to continue to subscribe to the theory that if it ain’t broke, break it.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Of course, that if it ain’t broke line is mine, not the Post’s.
Don’t want to lead anyone to believe otherwise.

    • stickguy says:

THis makes no sense, even for Willie.

He wasn’t doing the job, and the replacement is doing better, lineup works better, winning games, etc.

But, Luis is stil lthe #2 hitter?

      • toomanyuniforms says:

Trying to light a fire under their respective butts? Who knows.

Anyway, today’s game is about control — as in, if Ollie has control, he wins. He doesn’t, in that park, could get ugly. I don’t think we’re going to go nuts on Moyer, but we should get a few if we stay patient and take what he gives us.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Wright is going to put on another show today. I still don’t think the team is going to do much against Moyer. But Wright is on fire, and that’s going to help get the job done. Let’s see this nice little winning streak continue!

        • casey s. says:

willie is trying to be a dimestore therapist…and failing miserably. stop trying to spare everyone’s freaking feelings and just do what is best for the team.

        • darkstar73 says:

i’m just wondering, but who’s batting 2nd today? and has been for the past few games? yeah, thought so. You guys hang on Willie’s words way too much, what he says means nothing. He’s just trying to make Castillo feel better.

    • Reyesing Shea says:

tell me about it…LETS GO METS…a sweep would be sweet

    • hyperion4 says:

When are you guys going to stop reacting like Pavlov’s dog everytime Willlie *says* something? There’ll be plenty to criticize once he actually makes the change, if he does.

What did you want him to say? “Luis is basically done. We’re banishing him for life to the #8 spot in the order.”

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

The entire point of the comments section is for people to comment on all things New York Mets. Commenting on something Willie says in the media is fair game.

  8. HITorDIE25 says:

Does anyone know a site where I can watch this game on the Internet. I live in oregon and I am forced to watch the braves and dodgers on fox. And mlb is a blackout…

    • LenF says:

Fox Sports Espanol simulcasts one of the regional FOX games every week and this week the Mets’ game is being simulcast.

It’s a spanish language channel but at least you can watch it. If you are a DirecTV customer it’s part of the Sports Pack tier and is available on channel 616. I’m in Braves territory so this is how I’ll be watching.

  9. Lord Donkey says:

Let me be the first to say that if Willie puts Castillo back in the 2 spot today he should be fired on the spot. I mean the Mets are 7-0 with somebody else batting 2nd and 2-6 with Castillo there this year! What more evidence do you need to see that Castillo is a black in the top of the line up!!

    • KinersKornerman says:

So with somebody not named Castillo in the 2nc sport, the Mets should end up going 156-6. I like it.

I’m just messing with you. don’t kill me. Actually, I think you’re correct right now. But when Church goes cold, as all players do at some point, (see Angel Pagan) the Mets need to keep the options open.
      LGM.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I don’t think it will happen today, but it looks like it’s going to happen. What baffles me is that on the one hand you have Willie saying that Castillo is his #2 hitter, and that he’s just keeping him in the 8 spot because of the continued soreness; and he expects that to change. But then you have Castillo saying he needs more rest, and you have to wonder if he’s ever really going to feel good.

Why not just leave things the way they are? What they have been going with for the last few games has clearly been working. Church is going to do very well in that spot if they will just leave it alone.

      • vikdeen says:

The Mets made a HUGE mistake in signing Castillo for 4 years. The guy is a bum. So is Delgado. They continually hinder the mets offense time after time. Is Alou playing first base an option when he comes back? That will leave pagan in the lineup.

        • KinersKornerman says:

Dude. have you been watching the last two games?

        • throatneedle says:

the whole reason the mets re-signed luis castillo and gave him the deal that he got is ’cause he’s best friends with johan santana and they were trying to make the trade happen.

i say keep church at the 2 and if johan continues to pitch the way he did yesterday let castillo bat wherevere he feels like

        • jimyager says:

He reminds me of Rey Ordonez. He can flash the leather but cant swing the bat.

      • Massey says:

What, you expect Willie to throw Castillo under the bus? I’m sure Castillo doesn’t feel great being relegated to the #8 spot after being #1 and #2 his whole career.

Randolph said on WFAN that he likes Church in the #2 spot, that he’s getting more fastballs to hit (with Reyes’ speed and Wright behind him), and he’s driving the ball.

As long as Church continues to perform and Castillo doesn’t, the lineup won’t change.

Regarding the contract, I bet the choices were something like 2 yrs/$17m or 4/24. And other teams were interested, so the Mets didn’t have a lot of choice. It’s not a good contract, but neither were the alternatives.

        • hyperion4 says:

You’re right about this. I hate Castillo getting four years, but it was a priority to get 2B settled early in the off-season and there weren’t that many other options on the radar screen — Eckstein was playing coy and isn’t that great anyway. The Mets can afford to swallow some of the contract if they end up needing to.

      • darkstar73 says:

Delgado actually looked good last night against one of the top lefties in the league. He had two doubles robbed, but those not watching close enough probably don’t notice that.

  10. NYMetsGrrl94 says:

i’ve been to 1 mets/phillies game and i was too young to care. i wish i paid more attention to it

  11. Ryan Howard is 1-for-13 (.077) with a homerun and seven strikeouts

    Oh, Ryan Howard.

  12. metsfan119 says:

    Rollins out again

  13. metsfan119 says:

Unbelievable, the people who do the pre-game show for FOX said that after Santana’s first start at Shea he was “booed out of the stadium.” Are you freaking kidding me? It was a few random fans! This is why I never believe anything the media says.

    • KinersKornerman says:

They got their info from Baseball Tonite, who mentioned the boo’s again last nite.

Now, I’m waiting for McCarver to bring up the collapse again. Maybe I can turn this into a drinking game.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Can’t wait for the Fox coverage to start!! (sarcasm) If you really want to get smashed quickly, make slow zooms on the crowd and dugout your trigger to take a drink — especially zooms on players who just screwed up. Just make sure you have a cooler handy.

  14. metsfan119 says:

Why does Marv Albert’s son look like he has downs syndrome?

  15. khmustache says:

yesterday it was the philly jerkoffs and today it’s tim mccarver…why is god mad?

  16. Nate W. says:

Rollins hasnt started for 10 games, yet he isnt on the DL? Remember when Beltran did that a few times last year and everyone jumped all over him? I guess its not all that unusual afterall.

  17. khmustache says:

there is a giant fat man in a red shirt right behind home plate…he reminds me of the kool aid guy

  18. khmustache says:

    there goes the no hitter

  19. Jay says:

Wow sounds like a lot of mets fans there. Represent!!!

  20. Nate W. says:

David Wright for player of the week

  21. khmustache says:

    mccarver is a retard

  22. cohen1333 says:

    david wright is INSANE!!!

  23. metsfan119 says:

Utley’s getting hit today. Book it

  24. Nate W. says:

Derrick Lee hit his 7th homer today in the Cubs 17th game. He’s on pace for 66 homers and it hasnt even gotten warm in Chicago yet.

When does the 73 homer watch start? ;)

  25. metsfan119 says:

There goes Willie’s number 2 hitter

  26. khmustache says:

the cadaver formerly known as andruw jones hit a homerun today!

  27. HITorDIE25 says:

I dont know if anyone cares but I found a site in whihc you can watch the game at…you just have to download a couple of things. You need to download a program called TVants. Just google it and it is free. Once you got that downloaded go to myp2p.eu and click on live sports at the top. From there click on baseball at the top left corner and find the mets game after that and click the live botton on the right of the game. Once the new screen shows up click the play botton under either one of the games. It will take some time to load up so be patient….enjoy. Its a little behind gameday but atleast I get to watch it.

  28. pedro4545 says:

Nice piece of hitting by Perez

    • AlouIsNasty says:

I can not but laugh every time they show Ollie’s facial expression at the plate. He looked like an excited little kid after he blooped that one into shallow left.

  29. khmustache says:

you can hear the jose jose chants in the background! alright metsblog!

  30. KinersKornerman says:

    Another beer going down…thanks, Tim

    • Nate W. says:

oh stop, he’s great with the 12 year olds

oh yea, all the 12 year old are at thier little league games right now…

  31. khmustache says:

ryan “mo vaughn” howard looked stupid right there

  32. AlouIsNasty says:

nice K on howard, ollie hit 94 there

  33. khmustache says:

    nice pitch!

  34. this is my first time watching in HD this season and now i am kicking myself for paying extra for mlb.tv’s worthless “premium” package :(

  35. KinersKornerman says:

Two innings done and no Procede commercials. I’m strangely missing Guisseppe Franco.

    • khmustache says:

Hey everybody! Have I got a product for you!

      • metsfan119 says:

Stop pretending you look good and do something abouuu it

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Forget the daily regiments! Who has seven seconds to waste on something that’s clinically proven to work when you can give your money to Guisseppe instead!

Oh wait, he doesn’t own the company… He doesn’t own anything about it. So he MUST be telling the truth! :)

      • khmustache says:

sorry bout that i forgot to change my name to guisseppe franco…man..i’m as stupid as mccarver…

        • KinersKornerman says:

that’s ok…the effort is much appreciated. I feel better now,
          thanks everybody

  36. metsfan119 says:

uugghh, to get picked off by old man river. Come on Mets, no need to try and manufacture runs against this crappy pitcher

  37. Metdamage says:

Has anyone noticed that the Mets have only allowed 55 runs so far this season? Only Arizona has allowed less at 53.

  38. metsfan119 says:

I swear to god, throw at Utley’s head since he’s so willing to get hit

  39. Koko says:

I know it’s still early in the season, but the Mets have been pretty inefficient with their SBs this season. 66% compared to 81% last year.

And the numbers just aren’t there either.

Maybe the Mets do need Rickey. . .Or maybe Tim Raines would be better.

  40. Metdamage says:

I think Perez pitched aroud Utley to face Howard.

  41. metsfan119 says:

Why would the Phillies bat Utley and Howard back to back? If Burrell was batting in the 4 spot, that would be much more effective.

  42. Metdamage says:

    Ollie has Howard fooled

  43. Jay says:

If the announcers would shut up and pay attention they’d realize that after Utley barely moved on that first slider, schneider said something to Utley who then said something to the umpire. And on the next pitch that Ollie threw the fastball came up an in. I think he gets pegged in the back if the game if the Mets have a big lead late in this game.

  44. khmustache says:

hey moyer has his age on his back!

  45. HITorDIE25 says:

lets bean utley in the anus

  46. metsfan119 says:

Come on Mets, this guy is a batting practice pitcher!

  47. cohen1333 says:

    “nice little rhythm”

  48. jws366 says:

I feel like Moyer is a better version of Tom Glavine…not like thats saying much anyways…

  49. khmustache says:

    gold glove

    • jws366 says:

I gotta say, as many “gold glove” plays that david makes, he makes just as many errors. He should not have won the GG last year…

  50. Metdamage says:

Since there has been a lot of “fire willie” talk, just for fun, who should the Mets hire as manager should Willie be fired mid-season?

    Nice play David

  51. c.1970 says:

“…nice little rhythm…” hmmm…is the pope in town?

  52. jammer says:

pretty soon you will see an outfielder come in when castillo is batting. is there a worse hitter you want up there with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs than castillo?

  53. metsfan119 says:

I’m so sick of this crappy pitcher having success against the Mets.

  54. jammer says:

at this stage i think willie should be starting Damion Easley vs lefties instead of Delgado

  55. The Glider says:

Joe Buck is such an idiot. He said the Mets traded Milledge AND LoDuca for Church and Schneider. And McCarver just sat there and said nothing.

  56. pedro4545 says:

OP has gotta be on third right now

  57. jws366 says:

Clearly the Mets offensive production has been regressing ever since we got rid of Roid Dealin Lo Duca…

  58. metsfan119 says:

and he gets bailed out again…

  59. metsfan119 says:

all the vasoline on Moyer’s hands makes his bat slip out

  60. jws366 says:

I am embarassed for Jamie Moyer. What a clown…

  61. metsfan119 says:

i hate that little asian guy

  62. metsfan119 says:

Now all the Philly fans will have something to cheer about if Perez is hurt

  63. khmustache says:

damn…i hope his hand is okay

  64. Metdamage says:

Perez needs to dig deep here. Taguchi has speed he should throw over

  65. metsfan119 says:

    Nice pitch

  66. darkstar73 says:

nice pitch on 3-2 there, wow

  67. pedro4545 says:

Philthy pitch to strike out Werth

  68. Metdamage says:

    Nasty pitch

  69. metsfan119 says:

Perez is asking for it trying by continuing to get to Howard

  70. metsfan119 says:

Howard is due, this is bad….

  71. pedro4545 says:

    Bring on Howard

  72. Metdamage says:

We’ll see if Ollie is in his head

  73. bennyagbayanifanclub says:

we’ll see what ollie’s made of

  74. gipper91375 says:

    C’mon Ollie, keep it together.

  75. Metdamage says:

Perez had Howard beat before he stepped in the box. Great pitching

  76. gipper91375 says:

    Well done Ollie!!!

  77. metsfan119 says:

Get some damn runs off this clown!

  78. darkstar73 says:

i’m not one to get on guys when we’re up, but what is Beltran doing swinging at that pitch? That’s a pitchers pitch, just take it.

  79. jws366 says:

I’m very worried when we can only score 2 runs on jamie moyer in citizens bank park…

  80. gipper91375 says:

With Extra innings and Mlb.tv…I rarely have to listen to the WFAN calls of the games…..but from what I have heard so far of Waye Hagin…I am not impressed. Howie is Howie, and is great….but Hagin is too vanilla.

  81. pedro4545 says:

Man we gotta get some insurance runs

  82. metsfan119 says:

I’m just worried because I know that Willie will be using Heilman again

  83. gipper91375 says:

The bats, they sleep after first inning.

  84. Airfeet says:

Can we pull up Carp whose hitting like .450 to replace delgado

  85. Metdamage says:

4-5-6 is 0 for 9. Perez has to win this game with his arm. If ollie gets thru 7 I hope Sanchez get a chance instead of Heilman.

  86. metsfan119 says:

Ryan Madson… another crappy pitcher who inexplicably owns the Mets

  87. jws366 says:

I’d prefer a mix of feliciano, smith, schoenweiss and then Wagner

  88. metsfan119 says:

Come on Ollie, keep it together

  89. metsfan119 says:

You’re asking for it walking people in this ballpark

  90. Metdamage says:

The Mets should just hire a shrink for Perez. The man needs more encouragement than any pitcher in history

  91. metsfan119 says:

    DAMN! They almost had that!

  92. reyesnwright says:

At least he was really safe…we’ve had so man close calls like that go against us.

  93. metsfan119 says:

    What the hell was THAT?

  94. jws366 says:

    WOAH

  95. metsfan119 says:

    get this guy out

  96. Metdamage says:

throw him a high fastball already

  97. jws366 says:

Moyer’s pitch count is 85…looks like he might even go 8!

  98. jws366 says:

This reminds me of Pedro’s long AB at florida…remember when he wasn’t on the DL?

  99. metsfan119 says:

Great time for this Bartlett guy to decide not to suck

  100. metsfan119 says:

    take him out

  101. The Glider says:

    I don’t like this. C’mon D-Train.

  102. jws366 says:

I have rollins on my fantasy team. This is why I hate fantasy sports. LETS GO METS!!!!

  103. metsfan119 says:

Tough choice, Rollins has more power from the left side, but he’s a better hitter from the right side

  104. Darryl Strawberry says:

That was brutal to watch. Great job by Bruntlett, but c’mon 0-2 and Perez couldn’t put him away. Here comes Rollins. You can smell the hit. This Phillies team just won’t roll over and die.

  105. metsfan119 says:

Come on Sanchez, I believe in you!

  106. metsfan119 says:

    HOYEAHHH!

  107. pedro4545 says:

    DIRTYYY

  108. Metdamage says:

Duaner just put Heilman on notice for that eigth inning spot

  109. jws366 says:

I like how willie thinks. Pushing off that left ankle will not work…

  110. DaWrightStuff says:

    DIRTY!!!!

  111. metsfan119 says:

Please tell me schoe-time isn’t coming in to face Utley and Howard

    • darkstar73 says:

he might just be, you can’t pitch Feliciano every day against lefties, and Shoe actually does get lefties out.

  112. metsfan119 says:

Shouldn’t Marlon Anderson be in here?

  113. darkstar73 says:

oh yeah…Reyes goes deep! Man I felt that coming, perfect!

  114. CitizenSnips says:

    REYES!

  115. Metdamage says:

    JOSE!!!!!!!!

  116. pedro4545 says:

    BOOOOOM!

  117. metsfan119 says:

    Thank you Beltran

  118. The Glider says:

    Ho-Say, Ho-Say, Ho-Say!!!!

  119. gipper91375 says:

    Jose, Jose, Jose, Jose!!

Wayne Hagin has no place calling pro games. That homer call was brutal. He’s like a cliched generic baseball announcer. he could call Springfield Isotopes games.

Thankfully, Howie cut in to actually paint the picture as Jose got back to the dugout.

    • The Glider says:

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing. He’s brutal on HR calls.

      • gipper91375 says:

We’re spoiled on radio with all those years of Gary, Howie, and the great Bob Murphy (and a great TV booth now)….still, there has to be somebody out there better than Hagin.

  120. The Glider says:

So the Phillies are in our heads?

  121. metsfan119 says:

    Schoe no. Come on Scott

  122. metsfan119 says:

Couldn’t they have at least waited for the lefties to come up?

  123. metsfan119 says:

No Tim, the Mets got killed against the Marlins because Glavine was pitching, not because the Marlins were angry

  124. Metdamage says:

    Dear Tim McCarver

I did not know that Reyes and Milledge dancing inspired the Florida Marlins to score 7 run in the first inning of last years
    finale.

I thought it was Tom Glavine’s pitches. Clearly I’m wrong.

    • metschamps says:

Agreed…I was just about to post something similar but your post says it best. What a friggin clown McCarver is.

      • Metdamage says:

spurs and suns just played one of the greatest NBA playoff games ever

      • Metdamage says:

Imagine an NBA team taking MJ’s tongue wagging personally.

Are they supposed to stop Jordan because his tongue is so offensive? It’s just the dumbest sentiment ever.

Manny Ramirez show boats for every homer. Teams know its coming but you never hear guys saying that Manny inspired them to beat the Red Sox.

No one ever says anything to David Wright when he does it but hey when Reyes does it, teams just get that fire to get better.

        Its asinine

  125. pedro4545 says:

Damn I was just about to say how good Schoenweiss was looking

  126. robmenna says:

Haha booooooooo Howard. Boooo him. Then write ridiculous articles about it

  127. Nightlife says:

AGGHHH!!!! Can’t watch this game, screw you MLB.TV!

Well, other than the HR nice inning by Show there, though he did throw a lot of pitches.

Alright just 6 more outs boys.

  128. Wright88 says:

I feel bad for Show, he was excellent against lefties last year and has done pretty well this year. We should cheer him next time at Shea, I mean his biggest bad outing was pretty much Delgado’s fault. Look at him, he looks so sad, lol. He needs a boost from his fans.

  129. 7-train says:

Can we please agree to never ever mention Heilman as a starter again? The buy is barely serviceable as a reliever.

2 pitches and neither of them dominant.

  130. Nate W. says:

If I was managing Joe Smith would get this 8th inning, not Heilman.

    • metsfan119 says:

although to be fair, Heilman rarely has back to back crappy appearances

      • Nate W. says:

Heilman was good last night, but its not really about him.

Its about the matchups. Burell, Feliz, and Coste due up.

      • metschamps says:

I agree… Heilman is in a bad place right now but he was lights out during ST and he has the stuff to turn it around.

Even though I am a Heilman fan, I do kind of cringe lately when he comes into a game (al-la-Mota). But I still believe in him for some reason.

  131. darkstar73 says:

woah, Delgado gave that one a ride, and yes, Joe Smith is coming into the game.

  132. robmenna says:

Nate you should be the manager

    • Nate W. says:

nah, but its good to see Willie catching up to me ;)

Heilman has pitched three days out of the last four.

I havent looked into it deeply, but the Mets pen seems to be much more effecient in pitch counts this year. Thats one more thing that should help them survive later this season.

  133. Koko says:

If the 3 run difference remains till the bottom of the 9th does Wagner pitch for a third day in a row? Not very common for him.

    • Nate W. says:

I would… and then I would send him home instead of Chicago…

nice play Delgado! He’s saved Wright so many E’s this month.

  134. metsfan119 says:

Smith always gives up difficult ground balls. His pitches must have a ton of spin

  135. Nate W. says:

uh oh, Heilman warming up for the 9th

  136. Nate W. says:

    that was strike 3!!!

    • darkstar73 says:

yeah, i’ve got no idea how he didn’t swing at that, other then he was totally fooled

  137. pedro4545 says:

Great great job by Delgado getting the tag there and bailing out wright of another throwing error

  138. darkstar73 says:

    ugh, what a cheap hit

  139. Nate W. says:

that fly ball was in the air way too long to fall in. Where was Beltan going?

    • darkstar73 says:

if you’re questioning something, I’d say Beltran’s jumps shouldn’t be one of them, he normally gets amazing jumps on balls.

      • Nate W. says:

I’ll go with another ad nausium anti-Beltran comment.

        “He always plays too deep!”

  140. metsfan119 says:

    What a BS hit

  141. metsfan119 says:

Break after break after break, it’s how the Phillies beat us last year

  142. metsfan119 says:

Great, now Heilman can give up the grand slam. Unbelievable…

  143. Nate W. says:

man, Feliciano has been scuffling bad this year.

  144. darkstar73 says:

    hold your breath

  145. seanmac says:

Tim McCarver needs to go to the retirement home, his best days are long gone. Really makes you appreciate Gary, Keith & Ron.

  146. pedro4545 says:

    oh no….

  147. metsdude13 says:

    Well, there goes this game.

  148. metschamps says:

Well, its the perfect storm in the making – bases loaded, one out, Heilman coming in….and I am a Heilman fan and yet I am starting to freak out right now !!!!!!

  149. Koko says:

And people wanted Feleciano as the 8th inning guy last night. Control is his issue. He was great early part of last year put has struggled since.

Hopefully he can coax a double play ball now.

  150. Koko says:

    God no.

  151. Darryl Strawberry says:

It was nice while it lasted (winning). This Phillies team has heart, nothing but heart. They refuse to give in. This game will be tied here shortly. Willie should have left Smith in.

  152. Nate W. says:

3 run lead and we ‘all’ think its an L, unbelievable…

  153. metsfan119 says:

Heilman vs. some crappy .196 hitter. Yeah, this will end well…

  154. darkstar73 says:

    what was Pagan doing?

  155. Wright88 says:

    What was that?!

  156. Nate W. says:

Heilman is on pace for 111 appearances this year. ?!?

Pagan’s poor defense finally burns the Mets. Its actually amazing it hasnt hurt them more already.

    • giuseppe franco says:

That is at least the 3rd bad play I have seen from him in the field. Inexcusable

  157. metsfan119 says:

God I really hate this bullpen. I’ll just take not losing at the end of this inning. Give me THAT much

  158. Nate W. says:

nice of Jenkins for getting out of the way of that one…

  159. mookie says:

    oh no.

  160. Darryl Strawberry says:

    September 2007 won’t go away.

  161. giuseppe franco says:

Here comes HR Heilman serving up some salami

  162. metschamps says:

Nice – walk in a run….but to be fair, these are not Heilman’s doings….yet.

  163. metschamps says:

OK, everyone – we are two thirds out of this mess. The “better” Heilman appears to have showed up today.

  164. pedro4545 says:

    SCHNEIDER THANK YOU

  165. Nate W. says:

Heilman needs a put away pitch…

  166. darkstar73 says:

    YES

  167. metschamps says:

HEILMAN !!!!!!!! The man for today!!!!!!

  168. pedro4545 says:

    NICE HEILMAN!

  169. metsfan119 says:

HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy CRAP my hands are clammy

    • metschamps says:

LOL – yes, someone here said Met fans are the most comical of all fans – I have to agree…. !!!!!

  170. ccmetfan says:

thats how u do it heilman!!!!!!!YEAHH!!!!!!

  171. Innis_2_winnis says:

    Heilman and Schneider…that was huge

  172. Nightlife says:

    Thank you Aaron!!!!!!!!!!!!

  173. Darryl Strawberry says:

    Wow!

  174. giuseppe franco says:

Aaron coming through in a pressure situation? Maybe all of Willie’s unwavering confidence is helping him. Boy did we need that.

  175. Metdamage says:

    Hey darryl strawberry

THERE IS SOME METRPOLITAN HEART RIGHT THERE!!!!

HEILMAN GETS A PASS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK!!!

    • Jimbabway says:

      HEILMAN!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!
YOU GET A PASS ALL THIS WEEK!!

      OH WOW!! THAT WAS HUGE!!

    • giuseppe franco says:

He redeemed himself for yesterday, but he still has a lot to prove before fans won’t hyperventilate when he takes the mound.

  176. Nate W. says:

a 42 pitch, 3 reliever inning that actually went fairly well all told…

I dont want 5.5 more months of this, my stomach cant handle it.

    • metsfan119 says:

of course now the Mets have allowed the heart of the Phillie order to be up next inning. Got to try to manufacture something here

    • Nightlife says:

Well, even in ‘06 when we walked away with the division we had a ton of very close games.

  177. Nightlife says:

Some insurance would be nice here.

Hope Billy is ready to do his thing.

  178. playmaker3128 says:

Beautiful pitching there by heilman. Was that last pitch a slider. Might have been to fast to be one. Came in at 88. His fastball was sititng around 94 and his change certainly isn’t 88. I know he was throwing his slider more. Great pitch on the corner.

By they way i didn’t get to see some of the earlier innings, how was sanchez throwing (velocity wise) . I know he got a huge out. It just seems like foxes gun might be 1-2 mph faster than the shea gun, which is notoriously slow at times.

    • Nate W. says:

      it was a sharp slider.

Sanchez looked fine, it was only one batter.

I think using Sanchez in that spot may have been a waste, might have made more sense to use Smith there and Sanchez for the 9th.

either way the Mets are going to take a crippled pen into tomorrow.

Feliciano, Heilman, and Wagner all have pitched the last three days. So imagine this same scenario tomorrow with Sosa, Show, and Smith pitching. yikes!

      • ravi3 says:

yea, but as you said, Sanchez was used only for one pitch, after not appearing the day before. What hurts is that the team is going straight to Chicago, instead of having the off day Monday. Gonna need Pelf to go 6 innings…Sosa will be good for 2 more, and then you’ve got Sanchez for the 8th…Hopefully Wags has 4 in a row in him…

  179. Wright88 says:

Maybe Pagan can get some redemption.

  180. mookie says:

f—-yeah. Hopefully, this gives Heilman some confidence to be consistent. whew, in typical mets fashion we can’t just beat the crap out of them, we have to go through a lot of stress first. They should really conduct a study on the average life span of a Mets fan.

  181. altru426 says:

i am diagnosing heilman with bipolar pitching disorder

    • metschamps says:

LOL – did you see him in the dugout though? He looked like he just saw the grim reaper. Poor guy (Heilman – not the Reaper)

  182. metschamps says:

Can someone there please stuff a sock in McCarver’s mouth, for crying out loud ???

  183. pedro4545 says:

Schneider is really exceeding my expectations so far.

  184. metsfan119 says:

Come on Castillo, get a hit, surprise us

  185. metsfan119 says:

Alright, my guy is coming up now

  186. jammer says:

nothing brings me more pleasure than going on the beerleaguer.com and taunt those phathetic phillie phans :-)

  187. Nate W. says:

nice softball single there by Castillo.

  188. Nate W. says:

nice play by Bruntlet, slick footwork

  189. pedro4545 says:

Nice play by Bruntlett gotta tip your hat on that one…..he’s already helped us out enough this season.

  190. metsfan119 says:

At least an Utley homer won’t tie the game

  191. LaGrandOrange says:

Just when I wanted to curse out Castillo and Hangdog they go and surprise me !!! Is these a way to somehow ‘lose’ Castillo, Heilmann and Delgado? Ugh !

  192. metsfan119 says:

    Wagner, get this save!

  193. LaGrandOrange says:

Good time for a good plunking!

  194. metsfan119 says:

I’m so nervous he’s going to plunk Utley

  195. jammer says:

game over. worst pat the bat can do is make is a one run game.

  196. metschamps says:

C’mon Billy – strike his a$$ out and end this game.

  197. metsfan119 says:

    Philly Sucks!

  198. ccmetfan says:

    billy with the no-hitter!!!!

  199. metschamps says:

That’s how its done – perfect “in your face” ending !!! Good game!

  200. Metdamage says:

Mets Win a big series in Philly.

  201. pedro4545 says:

5 in a Row! Big Pelf for the sweep tomorrow…

    • MetsUKfan says:

      it could be easier tomorrow.

the look on the phillie players’ faces said this was going to be a long season for them.

  202. Nate W. says:

its odd, the Mets are 4-1 against the Phillies this year, but it feels like the Phils can take the game anytime they want. Very unsettling, and with Rollins in there it will be that much more difficult…

    • metschamps says:

I feel the same way . It is never a done deal with the Phils until we record the last out.

    • pedro4545 says:

I’m pretty sure if they can take the game anytime they want then we wouldnt have won 4 out of 5 against them

      • benny says:

        touche

      • Metdamage says:

I agree with Pedro4545. Its more a product of your own thinking than the Mets. I bet you anything that the Mets taking this series in philly and possibly sweeping is not sitting well in the Phils locker room.

The Mets out-pitched them and the Phils know they can’t out pitch the Mets. Just read their papers online Santana is already firmly in their heads. The Phillies know the Mets are much better than they are.

        • MetsUKfan says:

          totally agree metsdamage.

the always knew the mets starting pitching was going to be exceptional with the addition of santana. but i think they thought they had the upper hand in the bullpen.

the more the let chances slip away as they did with heilman the more they look lost. the phils kept themselves in it till the end last year because the media kept on about how bad the mets starting rotation was. its going to opposite this season.

        • altru426 says:

i’m sick of people saying “oh rollins has been injured, the mets can’t beat the phillies with him in there”, last time i checked, baseball is a team game and not 1 player does it for you

alou is out, and 2 of our 5 starts are on the DL…so this “rollins is out” crap needs to stop

the mets won 4 in a row now against the phils, let’s make it 5 in a row tomorrow

          LET’S GO METS

        • Nate W. says:

…because losing Rollins and Victorino doesnt hurt the Phillies offense at all? They still have someone hitting 1st and 2nd, so its all the same for them…

          get real

        • OrangeNBlueSince82 says:

I understand Rollins and Victorino’s absence hurt the Phillies’ offense and defnese but injuries are part of the game. Altru is right.

  203. ntlrock1 says:

    Game ball: AARON HEILMAN!

It feels good being able to say that. It means he did his JOB!

  204. KinersKornerman says:

Who replaces Heilman in our doghouse now?

  205. Gilch says:

no team has ever pitcher on top of his game at all times … pedro fel. should come around … on another note … there is no comparison between the staffs of both these teams. Philles are still an ABOVE AVERAGE team… talk to me about them after the win more than 88 games in a season

  206. Gilch says:

    every pitcher**

    • KinersKornerman says:

Not sure what you are saying there, G, but can we enjoy the 4-1 record over this above average team?

Totally agree about Pedro F…we’re just having a little fun about a Metsblog doghouse.

  207. fishmanj says:

I watched the game on HD today. Did Howie really do the game. Howie is an observant jewish man on the big holidays. I can’t believe he did the game on the 1st night of Passover

  208. playmaker3128 says:

Something real interesting. We never had a 5 game winning streak last year at all. Several times we had 4 game win streaks only to lose that 5th one.

Last year it never seemed as if everything was clicking at once. Right now the starting pitching, bullpen and the offense is playing well. Now lets get the sweep tommarow.

    • KinersKornerman says:

Your point is well taken, but with all due respect, we did win 5 straight games from Aug 31 to Sept 4. First 3 were in Atl, then 2 more in Cincy. Remember Pelf’s big game Sept 1.

Six in a row would be really nice.

  209. stickguy says:

nice to see a win. Even nicer will be seeing Pelfrey get in 7 innings, preferably pitching with a huge lead after the Mets rake Kendrik early and often, then pile on the BP. The pen could probably use some rest. Sosa can be the only relief if the plan works!

    some other randon thoughts:

Heilmann showed stones handling the bases loaded situation. Nice job.

Delgado’s OK start seems to have fizzled out. He is getting dangerously close to the Mendoza line, and is already hitting below Castillo (with about the same power!) If this continues, the Mets might be forced to make a move. Or we will have to start hoping for a DL trip to force the issue. Call up Bignhamton!

Oh, Delgado also looks like he really needs ALou back to help him out.

Endy continues to look like an extraneous piece of this team. Yes, we will always have “the catch”, but he hasn’t done too much (a couple of ABs) since then. Frankly, not sure we would miss him if he disappeared, and more than Clark. Wonder if the rumored off season trade (with Detroit maybe?) was real or not?

DW certainly is having a better April this year. Man, if he replicates last year May+, look out!

Now just have to get Beltran in a groove, and this team could really start cranking. He should be due for a nice hot streak soon.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Bench Delgado? What about a .640 OPS don’t you like??

I know I’ll get disagreement here, but just as it was too early after five games to write off the Mets, (and just as it’s too early after 16 games to say the Mets have risen above mediocrity) it’s too early to consign Delgado to the bench (and I know you weren’t suggesting an immediate benching.) While he put up weak numbers on the whole last season, his second half wasn’t bad — .844 OPS, and .949 in September. I still think there may be something in the tank.

But, to the extent that you’re suggesting contingency plans, the Mets have to think about it. One option is to unload one of the B-Mets first basemen to an AL team for an off-the-bench power hitter on the ML level. That probably couldn’t happen before the ASB. We can’t be certain who that would be, because we don’t know yet what teams will be out of the running. We have an idea, though, and I think Kevin Millar could be a candidate to end up on the Mets for prospects. Just throwing that out there. My preference is not to trade prospects, but depending on how things shake out at Binghamton, we may have three good hit no field prospects that we simply won’t have room for.

  210. D-Day says:

another great game. damn im loving this! good pitching from perez, walk into some trouble but always got out of it, NICE! wright and reyes are tearing it up like the franchise players they are!
hope heilman pitching out of that bases loaded situation helps his confidence, were gonna need him for the long haul.
and awsome to see duaner sanchez pitch solid, god i missed that guy. all in all a successful outing now break out the brooms and lets get the sweep, GO METS!

  211. miker94 says:

tim mccarver is unlistenable! and castillo and beltran are the worst hitters on our team. but damn it feels good to beat the phils and boy have we been looking good the last few days. it’s like, you actually see fight, and heart and passion. gotta love it! go mets!

  212. Metsnumba57 says:

I just came back from the game and what a game it was .The mets win 4-2. It was my first time at the stadium and I will say its a nice stadium but the Philly fans are so obnoxious. I almost got into a big fight with one of them but it was no use.

  213. jammer says:

we really need to make a statement tomorrow by sweeping the phillies. it will erase the september 07 nightmare

  214. zemonstar says:

awesome :D we can only get better from here, if we can keep winning like this, imagine what would happen when Alou, Pedro, and El Duque get back :o…and Ramon Castro :o and Mike Piazza >.>

  215. Brooklyn Mets Fan says:

I was at the game yesterday, and it was nice to meet Cerrone and the other Metsbloggers.

Being in the N lot was like being at Shea. All the buses had to be in that lot also so there were a bunch of Phillies tailgates around.

At one point a huge mets bus pulled into the lot and parked next to a bus with like 20 phillies fans tailgating out front. when the first mets fans started getting off the phillies fans were letting them have it. but as more and more mets fans were getting off, about 50 or 60 of them the phillies fans started to get friendly and joke with them. the mets fans punked them out.

I got a lot of ribbing from phillies fans but i responded to every remark and then some. overall i think the phillies fans’ notorious harshness is over-rated. my section, 306, had a ton of mets fans. there were security permanantely stationed in this area and about 2 fans were thrown out per inning. the security was very proactive which was probably the reason why i saw NO fights. pretty amazing considering. if you gave the finger you got the boot. overall i thought most phillies fans were respectful and 90% of the ribbers were all talk and backed down with a response.

nice stadium overall and great food, i’m psyched for citifield to open.

ps- why is ron announcing on tbs right now? at least it’ll make this game watchable.
