New Orleans (AAA): 5-2 loss to Iowa

LHP Adam Bostick took the tough luck loss, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks in 7.1 innings pitched. RHP Tim McNab gave up a run in the eighth, while RHP Ivan Maldonado let up a run on two hits and a walk in the ninth.

No prospect did anything of note with the bat Friday, with 35-year old 3B Shawn Wooten providing the highlight, going 2-for-4 with a homer. C Gustavo Molina was also 2-for-4 on the night.

Binghamton (AA): 9-3 loss to Portland

RHP Jake Ruckle was tagged for six runs on eight hits and two walks in just four innings. RHP Sal Aguilar surrendered two runs on four hits and three walks in three innings.

OF Fernando Martinez was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice, a double, a run and an RBI, and Danny Murphy, back at 3B, was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice, double, HBP and an RBI. DH Mike Carp went 1-for-4, and 1B Nick Evans had his second straight hitless night, going 0-for-4.

St. Lucie (A+): 8-5 loss to Vero Beach

LHP Eric Niesen had a strange stat line for the night, allowing two runs on five hits in four innings, walking three and fanning seven. Wantagh native Nick Abel took the loss by letting up three runs on three hits and a walk in just one frame.

Facing a certain former St. Lucie Met named S. Kazmir, the Mets scored one run against the most famous Met to never pitch a game for the team. Overall on the night, SS Ruben Tejada and OF Ezequiel Carrera were both 1-for-4 with a run, with Carrera tripling and Tejada driving in a run. 3B Levi Ventura had a two run homer in a 1-for-4 night, while 1B Lucas Duda was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Savannah (A-): 3-1 loss to Rome

LHP Angel Calero pitched well despite getting tagged with the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits in five innings. He walked just one and struck out eight.

2B Greg Veloz, batting out of the leadoff spot, was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, 3B Richie Lucas was 1-for-4 with a double, and 23-year old catcher Jordan Abruzzo continues to mash, putting up a 2-for-4 night with a double to put his average at .500 in six games.

Wow, Adam Bostick had his control today! Just shows you what he can do when he does have pitch command and is throwing his fastball (especially…he can get guys to wave at his curve out of the strike zone) for strikes. Let’s not forget this guy strung together 19.1 scoreless innings last season and does have flashes of brilliance. With the exception of Jordan Abruzzo, dfoesn’t look like anyone had a real great night with the stick (though Tejada and Carrera got hits that counted…as did Levi Ventura).

Bostick’s numbers make him appear similar to Oliver Perez. When he’s throwing strikes he is hard to hit, but he can walk the park and make life tough on himself.

In Bostick’s 4 starts he’s had 2 BB three times, and 4 BB once. If he keeps this up he could be a useful arm later in the year or next season. He will turn 26 next spring and is out of options, so he needs to get it together this year.

Not that it matters, but St. Lucie lost to Vero Beach, not Brevard County. Brevard County is an affiliate of the Nationals, not the Rays.

Yay, Gustavo Molina!

The thought of Shawn Wooten playing 3B makes be laugh and cringe for the pitchers…

Robert Paulk was recently demoted to AA,
with Nick Able moved down to St. Lucie to make room for him. I think Claudio Vargas will be added to the AAA roster soon as they are down a man right now.

St. Lucie has already used 18 different pitchers in thier first 14 games, including 2 mets on rehab. Looking like a long season for them at 2-12…

In todays B-Mets game Jon Niese breazed through the first three innings then fell apart in the 4th. After a hit and a walk, Dan Murphy made an error and the inning exploded from there.

his line: 3 2/3 IP, 6 hits, 5 runs (1 ER), 1 BB, 3 K’s.

Boston’s Justin Masterson was masterful (yuck yuck) striking out 10 in 5 shutout innings. B-Mets down 5-1 in the 7th.

eh, it was bound to happen to Neise, that stat line probably has more to do with maturity then ability, telling sign will be his next start.

I guess this as good a place as any for some former Mets (turned Twins) prospects info.

Carlos Gomez is getting a trail by fire as the Twins leadoff hitter and it hasnt been going very well so far. He has a .280 OBP with only 2 BB. His 9 SB help offset his .356 SLG a little, but he really is stalling thier offense.

Kevin Mulvey is dominating the IL so far. 2 runs allowed in 17 2/3 IP over 3 starts with 20:3 K:BB (!!) and a .221 BAA

and Phil Humber isnt. 16 hits and 5 BB allowed over 12 2/3 IP in 3 non-quality starts. .296 BAA

Deolis Guerra is getting the ‘kid gloves’ treatement again this year as he just turned 19 this Thursday. Repeating A+ ball hasnt been a challenge as he’s allowed just 1 run and a .182 BAA, But 7 BB in 15 IP are an issue, as is his lack of ability to pitch past the 5th inning. Which is mainly to limit his pitch counts.
