Opinion: Mike and Brandon from CBP

…i wasn’t sure what to expect when i attended my first Mets-Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday…i’d heard the horror stories of Mets fans getting pummeled for simply rooting for their team to the youtube videos of melees in the stands…however, my experience was surprisingly different and unexpected…

…when i arrived at the park, i was shocked by the sea of Mets fans that had gathered in the numerous parking lots surrounding Citizen’s Bank Park…i knew i was in philly, but it felt like a fast forward to what Citi Field will feel like next season…

…inside the park, it wasn’t much different…a smattering of boos could be heard as my friend and i walked through groups of Phillies fans, but for the most part Phillies fans were a bit tame with their taunts, perhaps the Mets winning Friday night and the early lead they took soured them a bit…

…of course, a couple fights could be seen in the distance on either side of where i was standing in Section 125, but the Phillies fans i encountered towards the end of the game were taunting their own player’s failures rather than Mets fans cheering their team…

…the day became complete when the Mets won and dejected Phillies fans became subdued as they lost another game and the series to their eastern division rival

as a Mets fan, you couldn’t have asked for a better day on Saturday…the sun was out, the sky was blue and so were the Phillies fans – before and after the game…walking in and around the beautiful Citizens Bank Park, i realized why near-career ending injuries have been cheered, Santa Claus has been booed, and so on, by Phillies fans…i have never heard such lame comments by rival fans before…most were laughable and most didn’t even deserve a comeback because they probably wouldn’t have gotten it anyway

this whole rivalry with the Phillies is hard for me to get into. The Phils suck more often than not…kind of like the Mets. the Braves will always hold the number #1 spot of hated teams on my list…no matter how rowdy the Philadelphia fans are.

hahaha GREAT post brandon i couldnt agree more. Philly fans are so dumb its ridiculous they have no clue when it comes to arguing baseball. The best comeback from a philly fan ive ever heard was a yell. instead of trying to argue with me he simply yelled as loud as he could and kept on walking.

I’ve only been to CBP one time last year, sat lower level by the left field fould pole in mets hat and beltran T. The fans never bothered me once and I was suprised. Figured it was just because I wasn’t in the upper deck. but I’ll give them their due, they were class that night.

Excellent point about the lame comebacks from Philly fans. I was at the Shea 12 inning game 4/10, wearing a Beltran #15 black jersey, and a huge Philly fan (wearing a nameless, numberless old school Phils jersey) who definitely would have pummeled me if it had come to that yelled “Mets suck” as I passed. I stopped and said “not as much as the Phillies, do the math.” He replied “I did the math and we’re better than you,” to which I said “Let’s see, 1 championship in over 100 years versus 2 in 46 years. I thought Philly was a college town, guess you didn’t go,” then I quickly moved along while his tiny brain tried to process simple fractions.

The Mets real rival is the Cards. We used to always open up there… and Ozzie Smith would do his annual backflip. He was good…
