Read: Wright & Utley Headline the Series
By Brandon Eddy - Apr 21, 2008 2:22 pm

With all of the drama between the white lines this weekend, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com writes how it was Chase Utley and David Wright who stole the show at Citizens Bank Park.

In 11 at-bats, Utley recorded six hits which included four home runs and six RBI.

Meanwhile, Wright was 8-for-11 with four doubles, a triple, five RBI and three walks in the series.

Crasnick quotes Phillies catcher Chris Coste as saying:

“The whole Mets-Phillies rivalry is fun in itself, but when you get two guys who have that kind of a series, it was almost like a mini-MVP race right there.”

…d-wright = locked in…

wright is a better hitter. utley’s #’s at CBP are much better than his road #’s each year.

It was great to be a Mets fan this weekend, it must have been even better at CBP.

Utley is a hell of a ball player. If he didn’t play in Philadelphia I would love the guy. He does everything the right way. That being said, I despise him and the team he plays for.

Although, I did not cheer when he got hurt last year…

D-Wright appears to be on a mission this year, thankfully! I hope that the line-up can get it all synched up for a big run. It appears like they are close to putting it all together.

How about this for a change
Reyes, Delgado, Wright, Beltran, Church, Pagan, Schnider, Castillo.
Maybe with Reyes on and Wright behind him Delgado will get going? What do you guys think?

    • jamie says:

no thanks…until he proves he’s not totally done, I’d prefer him to make his outs behind our best hitters rather than in front of them.

    • Midtown says:

Yuck. Do you know how many double plays he’s going to ground into whenever Reyes gets on base? I’m afraid to say that I think it’s hopeless to believe Delgado will return to 06 form.

    • DK says:

Why not have him lead-off, dont have to worry about him leaving runners on base… well 1st inning at least … lol

    • casey s. says:

i think people are missing this one scenario:

reyes gets on and steals second. now delgado is up and the weak grounder he always hits now moves reyes to third with one out.

it’s better than castillo could do.

    • Danny1986 says:

      curious. Are you serious?

      • therealsince86 says:

Very serious. Delgado can still get on base. He will get all FB in between Reyes and Wright. He usually takes a few pitches giving Reyes time to steal. Then worst case Delgado hits into the shift moving Reyes to 3rd or best case he goes the other way and Reyes scores. I am not saying perm. but it would be a good way to see if he has any thing left. If he can’t hit in between those two then just release him.

    How about this

    Castillo doesn’t play

  5. robmenna says:

Well if Castillo would have dropped down a bunt, Wright would have came up with 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, needing only a fly ball to tie the game. Instead, Wright was faced with having to get a base hit instead of just a fly ball.

    • Constnza81V2.0 says:

I’m also pretty sure Wright was just looking to waste a pitch there and on a normal day weather-wise that ball would have been about 5 or 6 rows into the stands. Stuff haappens sometimes. Wright was clearly amazing this weekend.

  6. Joebaby says:

Maybe if Delgado starts sporting a snotty smirk, he can hit like Utley too.

  7. CaseStreet says:

Even better is having Utley and Wright on my fantasy team.

  8. on0itzjoe says:

Besides the fact that delgado is much more subject to the possibility of grounding into a double play while batting second (you cant assume reyes is going to steal a base everytime he’s on first), you can’t forget that he is god awful slow, and as a result he may take away doubles and/or triples from Wright and Beltran.

I do agree however, that he would receive better pitches to hit in fastballs. That being said, delgado has had trouble catching up to a well-located fastball over the past year.

It’s not something worth fooling with, the 2 slot in my opinion is one of the most crucial spots in a batting order, something which ryan church has proven he can handle.

  9. on0itzjoe says:

just want to add also, the only way I would consider doing this is if everytime delgado came up he dropped a bunt down the third base line.
