News: Mets sign Brito
By Matthew Cerrone - Apr 23, 2008 7:40 am

According to Adam Rubin of the Daily News, the Mets have signed 29–year-old LHP Eude Brito to a minor league contract.

…i was told he is a left-handed Ambiorix Burgos, for better or worse

In 11 games for the Phillies, spanning 2005 and 2006, Brito allowed 24 runs in 40 innings while striking out 24 and walking 23.

For more on Brito, including Philadelphia’s concern regarding his real age, check out Mets Fever.

Also read Rubin for information on Angel Pagan, Aaron Heilman and Luis Castillo, whose right knee is bothering him.

    Sweet! Our problems are solved.

  2. rockets212 says:

yea another power relief pitcher who we can call up for 2 weeks have an era of 7.00 then send back down
    Another great signing Omar

    • Jim says:

Maybe Omar is stock piling arms for the bullpen so that as Willie wears our current bullpen out in 2 weeks we can just replace them all with another bunch of under achievers. Sure would like to see that Willie poll now. But I am sure SNY and the Mets don’t like Matt to post that.

      • ToastyJoe says:

Matt posts polls like that all the time, what are you talking about?

        • Jim says:

He has taken the Willie poll off the site saying that it only reflects how the team is playing. I don’t know how he knows that because he only posted it twice and the team was playing bad both times. Never put it up during the winning streak.

        • m00kie says:

after the first series with the marlins, where the mets played well, the poll showed a 75% approval rating.. then it bounced heavily after the next series and it was quickly obvious that it was a bad gauge …

take off the tinfoil hats people, there’s no conspiracy here.

        • Jim says:

So do you feel that we are one game over 500 good or bad? Do you think it is a direct reflection on Willie? How about when we play the infield in and can’t turn two then the next guy hits a grand slam? Or how about we are 20 games in and our bullpen is worn out? Matt is right, it is a direct reflection of the standings, We are not playing to our potential and that is a direct reflection on Willie.

  3. Jim says:

    WOW!

  4. Lightweis says:

    • Carlos Beltran, of the team to beat Mets, is 1-for-19 through five games of the trip.

    cold blooded, Rubin

    • gomets6091 says:

just to put it into perspective: Rollins had a 25 game stretch from May 7-June 3 last year where he batted .194 with 0 homers and 2 stolen bases, and he ended up with a 30-30 season and the MVP Award. I’m sure Beltran will come around, hopefully tonight against the Nats since I’ll be at the game.

  5. backinbusiness says:

Did the Mets perform a physical on Castillo before his contract? I am so tired of this (Newsday):

Luis Castillo took one of his medical days when he informed manager Willie Randolph in the morning that his aching right knee needed a break. With Castillo still recovering from offseason surgery on both knees, the plan for the immediate future is to give the second baseman time off on a regular basis.

“He should get better,” Randolph said. “I’m pretty sure he’ll get better. It’s just a matter of time. He’s still making plays.”

    Seriously?

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

If you’re wondering what a meeting between Willie and Castillo might look like, next time the Mets have a night off go out and rent Amazon Women on the Moon and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Then imagine a closed door meeting between Don “No Soul” Simmons and an Oompa Loompa.

    Left-handed Burgos???

Burgos is very young, and can be very good.

So….this guy is good?? Or has the potential to be?? He must throw upper 90s if the comparison is being made…

I find the comparison hard to believe…but its probably because I still believe Burgos will one day be Armando Benitez…

    • gomets6091 says:

Armando Benitez as in he’ll turn into an intimidating, often dominant closer,

      OR

Armando Benitez as in he’ll break our hearts time and time again and will never close out a big game?

      Or, a mixture of both?

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Armando Benitez as in neither of them will ever pitch another inning in a Mets uniform for the rest of their careers.

  7. Nate W. says:

Edgar Alfonso has been brutal so far for Bingy. He’ll likely replace him in the pen and we’ll see from there.

Collazo and Eddie Camacho dont exactly look like viable replacements for Feliciano or Schoeneweis should they ever be needed.

  8. WrightOn says:

So if he’s like a lefty Burgos, does that mean he’ll need Tommy John surgery on his left elbow?
