In March, the Mets announced that Shea Stadium would be a smoke-free environment in its final season, meaning Braves manager Bobby Cox may be unable to light up his traditional post-game cigar.
There is a designated smoking area outside of the stadium.
According to the Associated Press, the Mets will meet with Cox to discuss where and when he can smoke.
…i can’t stop laughing at this image of cox, in his uniform, standing outside of Shea Stadium puffing on a cigar with regular Mets fans, who are all outside smoking as well…hilarious…

Now if only Shea had a no wife-beater policy they could get rid of the old fart all together
brett myers too
He’s actually more upset about Shea’s ban on wife-beating.
beat ya to it
OK, the rest of us will get to this thread thinking “I have a GREAT idea for a comment!”
Only to find out that we got here too late :)
He can just smoke on the ramps with the rest of the smokers who probably didn’t notice the size 12 font “no smoking” painted on the wall there. And no one was kicking them out or anything..
HAHA so true….going to opening day thinking, “damn, i can’t even have a smoke in between innings…” little did i know NOTHING’s changed. same smoking crowd in the same place talking mets baseball with the security guards.
as for cox coming outside to smoke alongside the fans…well he better have his @sshole plugged because that cigar is getting shoved all the way up there. bring a cuban bobby, bring a cuban…
Somebody should put a load in one of his cigars so it blows up in his face like an old Bugs Bunny cartoon.
Bobby Cox: Mind if I smoke?
Mets: We don’t mind if you burn.
Nice
lol
It would be nice to know that they did this just to F with Bobby. I doubt it, but that would be awesome.
Braves fan here: just have to say, that (Cox) is one funny image.
btw, I grew up next door to Brett Myers. He’s okay. A very decent family and the guy made a mistake. It always rubs me the wrong way when this issue is dredged up… but of course that’s just because I know them. So really not criticizing it, just adding my 2 cents worth.
Do you defend Cox’s wife beating as well?
Well, I don’t exactly defend it. But the charges were dismissed; he’s still married to the same woman; and somehow he’s managed to avoid the federal pen in the 13 years since it happened.
But no, I don’t defend it.
Simply offered that I knew these people (the Myers), and that there just may be more to a person’s story than what you read in the Enquirer (or SI.com).
Nevermind. Chip away. Have fun.
