Was Molina a heavy set guy who played first base as well?

    • the clap says:

Never saw him play, but Molina does have some 1B experience. He seems a step up in the recent Mets backup catcher options (DiFelice, Alomar, Jr, Casanova) in that he’s still young, has some versatility if he indeed can play 1B competently, plus apparently he has a cannon behind the plate.

    • Necciai27 says:

      You’re thinking of Robinson Cancel.

      • pvhornet05 says:

Yup you’re right Nec thanks man.

        • Necciai27 says:

No prob. Cancel is on the Minor League DL right now, otherwise, he’d probably be the starting catcher. I recall reading he worked really hard with Sandy Alomar, Jr. on his game-calling during ST and Sandy Jr. was truly a marquee game-caller.

I found this Fire Willie Petition. Not sure how long it’s been around, but I’m going to start getting it around the internet and Monitor it. As of now (when I found it) it has 21 signatures. I’m sure within a week, it’ll be near a thousand.

      • Felonious Monk says:

It’s not Willie’s fault. Does Willie control if Heilman has a meltdown or Jose or Delgado muff up plays in the field?

The Mets’ problems right now rest solely on the players. They need to pick it up, not Willie.

        • kandiman says:

No but he does control whether or not he brings Heilman in. Right now Heilman is one of the worst relievers in the NL and he still LEADS the league in appearances. Why does he need to bring him in there??

  2. I wonder if this means that Schneider’s arm may be hurting him a little more than we thought.

Not like Clark was doing much anyway but keeping the bench warm.

    • NYMetsGrrl94 says:

did u miss the part about the infected finger?

      • Felonious Monk says:

Yep.. Kinda jumped the gun. I was watching Loudmouths and came to Metsblog and this was the first story I saw. Hadn’t heard anything about his thumb up till now. :-|

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

          Is Loud Mouths live?

I’ve only seen a little bit of that show once or twice. If it’s live, they really should have reported it. Even if it’s not, those guys are way too busy listening to the sounds of their own voices to actually do anything productive with their TV time.

        • Felonious Monk says:

Yeah, I don’t know. But you’ve got a point. A starting player goes down with an infected thumb and the team makes a roster move, and yet not a single mention of it on DNL, Wheelhouse, or Loudmouths… nothing until Mets Pregame. Is SNY asleep at the wheel?

This is why I miss the 6 pm GEICO broadcast.

  3. metties1 says:

he has an infected thumb. It was posted right before the pregame notes

  4. PacmanJones says:

Anyone notice SNY made Matt take down the Joe Smith “curse” video? First the Willie poll, now this. I was at work so I didn’t get a chance to see it, however I knew SNY would have taken it down by the time I got home. LAME.

    • QueenOfQueens says:

Did you read Matt’s earlier post about his relationship with SNY? Please get a clue.

  5. PacmanJones says:

Just saw it on Youtube, what does he say about “you’ve got 7,000?” couldn’t make that out. Then he says something like, “I’m in the majors YOU IDIOT!” He sounds like such a child, he’s about to cry.

The best part is when the little 10 year old kid with his father screams “Joe Smith… Go grab your ankles you b|tch!!”

  6. MainStMets says:

did u guys read the post matt made earlier today about how he has sole control over what gets posted here? his post was something along the lines of sny has no control over what is posted here, i control it all and i would not have partnered with sny if they were to have control….so most likely this was taken down by him, as well as the willie poll….some people will whine and complain about anything.

  7. PacmanJones says:

So why would the post with about 50+ comments SUDDENLY be taken down with NO explanation by matt? You’re telling me SNY didn’t advise him to take it down? You believe everything you read don’t you? HOGWASH!

  8. mrosey says:

I presume this is bad news for Brian Schneider’s return, especially because he is back out of the line up tonight.

  9. Dafatone80 says:

I doubt it’s SNY. MLB goes after youtube videos very, very harshly. Go try to watch some baseball on youtube, you’ll have trouble.

My guess is that MLB made youtube take down the video, so the link is no longer of any value.

    • PacmanJones says:

Nah it’s still up on you tube… search “joe smith cubs”

Someone made matt take it off the site.

  10. drtmuir says:

Oh Goody, now we have a Molina catcher like everyone else.;)

  11. Steal Home Jose! says:

If Schenider’s injury was serious, wouldn’t they put him on the DL and have Molina take HIS place instead of Clarks?

  12. ExileInLA says:

If Schneider won’t be ready in 10 days, then he gets DL’d when Alou is ready. If he will, then Alou probably waits til Schneider is ready, and Molina goes back to AAA.

It’s only a few days difference for Clark — he was the cut for Alou, anyway.

The next roster move I’d like to see is to DFA Marlon Anderson, and replace him with a middle infield glove as the 25th man. Once Alou is back, Pagan & Chavez won’t get enough ABs anyway…

    • Steal Home Jose! says:

An middle infield glove? Anderson Hernandez?

I don’t think that will happen unless Reyes or Castillo are injured.

    • Felonious Monk says:

I don’t think you can give up on Marlon that easily. I mean, this is a guy that has absolutely dominated as a pinch hitter over the past 3 seasons. He did hit the home run last night, so maybe he’s starting to get out of his little slump. When all is said and done, he’ll still be the league’s top PH by the end of the year.

  13. MainStMets says:

believe everything i read? no, never, but when matt goes out of his way to make a post about on the blog, then yea i believe him, and theres nothing wrong with that

mets fans and there conspiracies…everyday seems like there is a new one

  14. Slob says:

Two hits. That’s what Ruben Gotay was worth. Two godforsaken hits.

    • GravediggerHebner says:

Gotay is 3-14 (.214) off the Braves’ bench and would likely have been the player cut today by the Mets to make room for Molina had he still been here. If only he could’ve filled in at catcher, or hit left hand pitchers, or fielded well…

  15. pvhornet05 says:

    SNY signed Harold Reynolds

  16. guierllNO MOta says:

OK, so who is the first genius who will claim that Aaron Heilman wouldnt suck if he was a starter…I mean this guy cant get anyone out,you guys still want him to be a starter….send him to AAA, we all knew Sosa was gonna give up HRs, so we cxant be shocked when he does it, what is this guys excuse

  17. metz1 says:

wheres doug sisk when you need him?

  18. metz1 says:

id rather see carlos muniz come in instead of heilman!

  19. metz1 says:

aaron [bombs away] heilman does it again!

  20. metz1 says:

you think another team might be interested in heilman? id trade him and a couple of prospects for a decent firstbaseman!

    • ifti99 says:

i got a good tarde for the mets. Heilman to the yankees for a bucket of balls and a 2000 world series program. Thats an even trade that would strengthen our ballclub.

  21. metz1 says:

i wonder what omar is thinking right now?

    • ifti99 says:

and another thing. anyone notice how delgado can no longer field hard grounders to his right?

      this is getting ridiculous…..

  22. rd says:

Only the Mets lose 10-5 to the Nationals…… What a disgrace!!!

  23. MikeN08 says:

WoW!! The Mets are in serious trouble!!!! We just don’t have any fire or desire out there at ALL!!! Somebody needs to do something about this right away other wise it is going to be way to late. I dont wanna hear ohh its a 162 game season were not even 1/4 into it yet etc. etc. This team is in trouble point blank no way around it. Reyes is lost he does not look like the same player, Delgado needs to go back to 2006 & start using his little black book again, Wright and/or Beltran NEED to throw a FITTTTT in the locker room & start throwing & kicking stuff over they have to let everyone else know that this is unacceptable!!!!!!!Show that they care about this team & let it be known that this team is too d@mn good to be playing like this & it needs to end NOW!!!!!!!! Willie isn’t going to do it so Wright & Beltran need to step up & light a fire under everyones @ss!!! The team isn’t having fun in any which way, it’s like they dont even want to be out there. Everyone on this team is making it look more like a job instead of what it should be & that’s FUN. If something doesn’t happen soon and somebody doesn’t show some D@MN emotion that they care this season will be a wash again. This team is wayyyyy to good to be playing the way they are!!!!!!!!!

    • Felonious Monk says:

I have to agree that these guys do seem a little lacksadaisacal. But you have to be careful about inserting a new element into the clubhouse. I don’t think it’s going to be Willie that injects some life into this team. It’s going to have to be a trade.

People have a tendency to blame the manager, but look at 99-2000. Nobody like Bobby V. He pissed people off instead of motivating them, but they had guys like Tank on the bench who used to keep the atmosphere loose and the guys pumped up even during bad games. You need a couple more characters. With Pedro and Castro out, who is left on the bench and in the clubhouse to be the “morale guy”? No one.
