    What?

    • Ferragamo says:

Anyone else notice Schneider get injured in last nights game?

I think it was on one of Milledge’s foul tips that caught Schneider in the thumb?

      • mackey_sassers_arm says:

schneider’s left thumb is covered by a catcher’s mitt when he is in the feild. I don’t think the foul tip did it this time.

        • zer09 says:

It was his right hand. He had the hand behind his back and Milledge fouled it off the plate then the ball spun back between Schneider’s legs and nipped him on his fingers. This is certainly it…unless he cut it somehow after the game…

        • casey s. says:

no it’s not. he hit his right hand. it is his left is infected.

    • almar1965 says:

Timing sucks on this one. Right before a big series with the Braves where Mets pitching will have to be at their best vs. Hudson and Smoltz.

Instead we have to have Casanova who calls a crappy game, or a relative unknown.

Can they have Schneider call the game from the dugout?

  2. DMAT89 says:

    Mike Piazza anyone?!

  3. mackey_sassers_arm says:

Castro, please!!! Hurry up buddy… You don’t run anyway, let’s get a good look at you.

  4. MacD81 says:

Great. Can’t wait to see Casanova go 0-4 on a nightly basis!

In all seriousness, assuming Schneider is on the DL, who is next on the depth chart to be the backup?

  5. NYMetsGrrl94 says:

any chance mike nickeas gets called up?

  6. mikey_FF says:

Infected …. left … thumb? Ugghhhhhhh.

  7. tfc3rid says:

    Snake bit…

Next thing we’ll find it it had to be amputated…

  8. that stinks…especially since the starters seem most comfortable when he is calling the game

  9. rogasm says:

Where is Defeliece? It’s about that time of the year when the Mets sign him.

  10. sheahey81 says:

Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? (and can she catch?)

  11. PhillyMet says:

    No good

  12. TRex23 says:

    Let me get this straight:

    Infected left thumb

    Stiff Neck

    Hernia

    Bunion

Are we talking about a team of relatively-young, conditioned athletes or the convalescent wing at an old folks nursing home?

What’s next, a broken hip? Cataracts? Alzheimers?

  13. sheaheykid says:

the injury business with this team is so bizarre… how the heck does he have an infected left thumb?

  14. wonderboy says:

isn’t Castro just a matter of days away?

  15. K-Hern says:

    CRAP!!!!!

  16. Well Delgado used to be a catcher…..

  17. imissthemojo says:

    an infected left thumb/??

    you can’t be serious.

the mets makes me laugh. if nothing else, they do that.

    • mrose says:

how does a trainer not help with this before it gets infected???

      • zer09 says:

Sometimes a blood clot develops a few hours after the injury took place. It’s very often that by the time you notice it (and the blood clot forms) it is already infected. Sometimes it takes a few days, sometimes much more. One thing’s for sure, he won’t be able to use that finger for anything for at least a few days…

  18. Midtown says:

Gustavo Molina rules. If Brian goes down, I really hope Molina gets the nod over Casanova.

  19. jpnym15 says:

    PIAZZA DAMMIT!!
its only temporary, and the mets are a-holes if they dont consider this..just sign him through this season..he can fill in for the other catchers..possibly first base for delgado, and can pinch hit..COME ONE METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you care about the damn fans, you’d let this happen…especially sheas final year

    • MetsLv31 says:

Try posting again once you sober up…

    • ravi3 says:

“he can fill in for the other catchers..possibly first base for delgado”

Really? Have you seen Mikey over the last few seasons? Frankly, the last thing I want to see is a broken down Piazza tarnishing the legacy he left during his stay here.

      • DAK442 says:

Mike couldn’t tarnish his legacy here if he shot HGH on live TV, packed a bong on the mound, threw firecrackers at Make-A-Wish Foundation kids, squirted bleach at Keith, Ron and Gary, held a circle jerk in the bullpen, and hit Johan with a golf club.

I think he’d be seen as the second-greatest-Met ever coming out of retirement to help out the team one more time.

Even if he hit .210, he’d still be better than Molina/Casanova and Delgado. And it’d be a thrill.

I miss the big lug, in case you can’t tell.

  20. Bill Sussman says:

I guess it happened when he got hit with a foul tip last night. Molina looked good in spring. However, so did Casanova.

  21. ToastyJoe says:

Is Sandy Alomar, Jr. still hanging around?

    • tfc3rid says:

I believe he is the organizational catching instructor…

      • Chris Jelic says:

Even better – bullpen catcher. He’s at Nationals Park, in uniform. And he was pretty good for backup C last year.

  22. metsfan119 says:

    god hates the mets

  23. dykstraw says:

    day to day
    day to day
    day to day
    pinch hit
    day to day
    day to day
    day to day
    day to day
    start
    disabled list

  24. Bruce Boisclair says:

This is a bigger deal than one might think. Not having B Schneider could have a deleterious effect on the pitching staff.

  25. ToastyJoe says:

Schneider: “Look at my infected left thumb. Gee, you’re dumb.”

  26. DaWrightStuff says:

wow! how many time can you get struck by lightning?

  27. ruiz2k5 says:

I feel bad for Mike Pelfrey since he does really well with Schneider behind the plate. I seriously doubt its a coincidence that his bad game was with Casanova catching.

    • mrose says:

it was also in Philly in a bandbox and a great Left handed hitter smacking 2…besides that..what was so bad about his night?

  28. HITorDIE25 says:

    cassanova f-ing sucks

  29. mackey_sassers_arm says:

    mackey sasser anyone?

  30. pbelli01 says:

Wheres Mike DiFelice when you need him?

    • Necciai27 says:

DFA’ed by the Rays and a free agent…anyone know the over/under on the Mets picking him up yet again (in all fairness to Mike, he does call a better game than Casanova)?

  31. gipper91375 says:

    Uh oh Cassanova.

  32. backinbusiness says:

Molina has been playing pretty well in AAA:
    .288 BA
4 extra base hits (out of 15 hits)
    14 Ks though.

At 26 it would be nice to see what he can do. Don’t know how he calls a game, defense, etc, but he has to be worth a start over Casanova just to see what he can do…right?

  33. Gland says:

Infected thumb is bad, but still not as bad as Kas Matsui and his anal fissure.

  34. Bluewater3272 says:

At least ‘Nova doesn’t have a huge mole on the side of his head.

Mets should inquire about Laird. Scheider / Laird combo would be nice.

… and Casto isn’t coming back anytime soon.

  35. Nightlife says:

Do the Mets not provide antibacterial soap and neosporin or do baseball players not wash their hands often?

  36. jamie says:

the response here is pretty funny in light of the winter conversations/appraisals of schneider. He’s really made an impact with us in a short time.

  37. tm06scot says:

UMMMM… does anyone else think we should scrap Casanova and get Castro back into this lineup…… Who cares if he can’t run… He’ll just have to hit homers and then he can jog.

  38. DMAT89 says:

we should try to steal saltalamacchia from the rangers AAA team!

  39. Gasface77 says:

What the hell is an infected thumb? Did he have a cut that got infected? Is it something inside his thumb? This is so bizarre. What the hell is going on??????????

  43. oleosmirf says:

Gustavo Molina was great during the spring and is playing well in AAA. .288 1 HR 8 RBIs

If Schnieder is out hopefully Molina gets a look… but come on Casanova isn’t that bad

    • stickguy says:

Actually, I think he is that bad. And old.

Get Molina up here if Schnieder hits the DL, then in 2 weeks, demote whichever one is doing the worst.

  44. Justin4383 says:

Every Trainer on this team should be FIRED!!!!!!!!

  45. OrangeNBlueSince82 says:

Rubin updated his blog. Schneider is not going on the DL. Molina is being called up and Brady Clark is the roster casualty.

  46. metties1 says:

I don’t see why everyone is so down on Casanova actually. He is 4 hits in a whopping 19 ABS. He made a few nice plays in the field. That diving catch, throwing out Soto, and I remember he threw out a guys trying to steal second… It’s debatable whether or not he calls a bad game. tonight would be a good test with Ollie. I can live with him for now. I wouldn’t want him to have to fill in long term obviously

  47. hotfoot86 says:

I don’t think there was one intelligent comment on this message board, except the most recent (metties1).

Schneider has an infected right thumb. Something any of you can contract, and something trainers can’t prevent from happening. He was in Washington, D.C. – saw a specialist. They flew him back to New York, where he is being hospitalized while doctors take care of it.

Next, you’ll blame the trainers for Reyes’ decline in stolen bases by season’s end. Jease.

Once again … you all make me sick.
