The Mets (11–10) lost to the Nationals (7–16) by the score of 10 to 5 in Washington, DC this evening.
For a recap and boxscore, go to SNY.tv.
…Oliver Perez looked strong through the first four innings, but just as the Mets grew a three run lead, ollie gave it all back and then some…it’s odd because every so often this seems to be the case with perez…he cruises through the first few innings then starts losing command and lets innings get away from him as he becomes more frustrated…he still needs to learn how to calm himself once things start spinning out of control…although the bullpen put this game out reach, perez’s loss of poise and command is what began the Mets demise tonight…
…speaking of the bulllpen, Aaron Heilman…jeez, what can you say…the guy is just a nightmare…can you say no confidence…same goes for Jorge Sosa…and if tonight is any sign, Duaner Sanchez is the Mets new goto guy in the eighth…
…by the way heilman is on pace to pitch in 93 games this season…just saying…
…one of the bright spots tonight was Luis Castillo, who is coming out of his early season funk, going 3-for-5 with a run and another stolen base…i understand the frustration with castillo, but this is why you can’t give up on guys earlier on…
…speaking of bright spots, Ryan Church, who went 2-for-4 with an rbi, continues to be locked in at the plate and continues to hit no matter where he is slotted in the lineup…
…on a side note, if the Mets want to bring a sausage/president type race to citi field next season, don’t…it’s gimmicky and although entertaining the first few times, it gets odd quickly…however i do miss the old airplane races they used to play on diamond vision…
…planners of citi field take note…the camera view behind home plate is awful…it’s difficult to judge where fly balls and plays down the line are headed…too many times did a ball go foul that i was sure would be fair…
…it was nice to see the Mets not go quietly in the ninth after the game got away from them as they have being doing earlier on in the season…despite that, this was a terrible loss as the Mets again failed to put a team way when they had control of the game…
The Mets will play the Braves tomorrow night at Shea Stadium.

AHHHHHH WIllie is saying RIGHT NOW “We gotta keep running Heilman out there”
translation: “We need to keep losing more games”
Get him away from the Mets. PLEASE.
Who would you have brought in there?
i would have left perez in. he got two outs in a row.
hey
This is when you really miss a guy like Paul Lo Duca. Someone who will get loud, start yelling, flip over things in the dugout. This team is falling apart and they look calm as can be. There is something very wrong when I am throwing things around my room, and the dugout looks asleep. Willie has to get control of this team before it spirals out of control for Gods sake, GET THROWN OUT, DO SOMETHING!! AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP PITCHING HEILMAN, send him own to triple A to find himself like they did to Trachsel in 02. Somethings gotta change here people!
Yeah, Loduca really helped last year, getting thrown out at a critical time and getting suspended. You don’t have to act like an idiot to be passionate.
Can’t wait to hear Willie in the press conference.
“Perez threw the ball well, but we need more length” “Reyes lost a little focus on that error, he just came up a little too quick”. “Its a long season…I trust my guys” “Aaron will be fine, its early…he’s still my guy.”
“History repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce”…
Welcome to the Farce, gentlemen!
Did anybody stop to think that 2006 was an abomination and that 05, 07 ans doon 08 are more what the team is about? I think as fans we expected a win after 06 and when we got the collapse of 07 we where stunned and now in 08 we want blood! We think that we deserve a winning team and we demand one. But, perhaps the team is not as good as we all think. We are blinded by faith and love of an under acheiving team. Or, as fans, we have given this team more credit than it deserves and have expectations that are set to high for them to reach. Just foor for thought. LETS GO METS !!!
Did anybody stop to think that 2006 was an abomination…
I don’t think that word means what you think it means.
note to Aaron Heilman
MAJOR LEAGUE HITTERS CAN HIT A CHANGEUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Especially when it’s all you throw!
i knowwww mannn…i was implying that also
What good would it do Willie to come out and personally bash each player to the media? Show heart? He would really lose the team then.
i would like him to stop calling for heilman from the bullpen. can someone crazy glue him to the pine?
Who would you have used there? Sosa? Smith many on here are already complaining is being used too much? Show against a RH? Wagner in the 6th?
at this point i think you’re just baiting me.
PEREZ GOT TWO GROUNDOUTS. LEAVE HIM IN. PERIOD. IF WILLIE CANNOT SEE THIS THEN WE NEED SOMEONE WHO DOES.
You got your caps lock stuck again.
Perez was done and if we had left him in and the melt down continued you guys would have been on him for not bringing him out. Either way Heilman should have been able to get the job done and did not.
he was so done HE GOT TWO GROUNDOUTS!
oh my damn caps lock again, sorry
Tell the entire story, one of the ground outs was a bunt. I would have left him in, however, then Milledge would have hit a HR and the entire site would have been flooded with Milledge losers and then Heilman would have been brought in to give up his HR right after that. Right now no decision turns out right for Willie which is why he must go.
i like you all of a sudden!
It’s hard to say if this site would be flooded with people complaining if he had left ollie in to pitch, cause he never leaves his starters in to pitch. At least if he tried we’d have someone else to blame besides heilman and the bullpen. whats it gonna take before willie makes an ajustment here. ollie was at 100 pitches on the nose, goodness please let him get out of his own jam.
oliver perez has to grow up and be able to keep his control through the 5th inning..hes gone through 6 innings one time this year and that was the 13-0 game the first week of the season against the marlins…since then its been 5 or 5+..its gonna be tough to win on those days when ur pen has to pitch 4 or 5 innings in a tie game
Agreed. I’m getting tired of Ollie and his ADHD on the mound. I don’t care how great his stuff is when he’s on; when he’s not (which is more often the case), he just can’t get it together to save his life.
I guess he’s setting himself up to be a perfect $cott Bora$-represented pitcher in the mode of Hampton, Brown, Pavano, Zito etc. At this point, any team that signs him to more than a two year deal next year is crazy (or better have a foolproof bullpen with at least two long men).
Meet the Mets, Meet the Mets!
meet gipper! the tool who whines incessantly if we don’t go 162-0!
oh wait, that’s this entire ignorant fanbase. what a bunch of idiots.
geez, sounds like you would rather watch a losing team and have no expectations than expect to win 95 games. you are the idiot!
Beat the METS. Beat the Mets. step right up and Beat the Mets, Hit a Grand Slam , steal a base, garenteed to put a tear on your face.
I know everyone likes going crazy after a bad game, but I just want to say: deal with the ups and downs of baseball. If the Mets take 2 of 3 from Atlanta, everything will suddenly be happy again. It amazes me how completely back and forth the comments on here swing from night to night based on wins and losses in April. It’s almost like some people haven’t lived through the ups and downs of a baseball season before. Some nights you win, some nights you lose. Some weeks you go 5-1, some weeks you go 1-5. You just have to hope that the it’s 4-2 more often than not in the end. And as bad as a team can look one night, they can look as dominant the next. It happens. No rhyme or reason. I say, stop complaining and let the season take some shape.
No..thats what .500 teams do. Championship teams dominate the worst teams in the league.
What’s our record vs.
