Lets go Mets! Sweep these chumps! We need to get on a roll and you cant ask for a better(worse) team then the Nats to help us with that.

  2. zen says:

brady clark was dfa. gustavo molina activated.

ollie needs to dominate tonight against the lowly nats. let’s get 8 innings out of him tonight

  3. metsfanatic says:

They need to take these type of series if they want to win the division.
And if Clark is DFA then Alou must be very close.

  4. metsfan119 says:

Is there a more repulsive TV personality than Adam Schein? Seriously? I just want to deck the guy

  5. anybody watching sny? what’s with duaner’s eyebrows?

    • khmustache says:

dude…i think he grooms them. my wifes eyebrows look just like that when she comes back from the salon

      • I get mine done every couple of weeks and they never look that good!

      • andyglass1 says:

mine too… it’s scary after they are waxed. wasnt there a seinfeld episode where uncle leo had his brows waxed and looked really pissed off as a result ? ollie’s photo makes it look like he is a prime candidate for an eyebrow job ….

  6. khmustache says:

thats probably why he wears the goggles…he must protect the eyebrows

  7. khmustache says:

    nice start boys

  8. PacmanJones says:

Glad to see the bats decided to wake up for the big bad shawn hill.

  9. PacmanJones says:

Well… Ollie’s got his work cut out for him tonight, if he gives up more than 2 runs, this one is over.

    • khmustache says:

pacman! congrats on big d…don’t go shootin anybody

      • gomets6091 says:

that reminds me: I was at the game last night and there was this kid wearing a Mets hat and a Romo jersey, and the Nats/Skins fans were giving him a hard time. Can’t say I could bring myself to defend him, being a Giants fan and all…

      • PacmanJones says:

I won’t, didn’t you hear what I told Michael? I got the pole in my crib now! I can make it rain from the comfort of my own home!

        • khmustache says:

and if you do end up shooting her you can claim she broke in! it’s a win-win situation!

  10. Dirtysanchez says:

    CHURCH!!!

  11. gomets6091 says:

can I just say I love Ryan Church

  12. khmustache says:

    nice d harris…that was funny

  13. PacmanJones says:

Hey!! It wasn’t a double play! Congrats delgrampa!

    • gomets6091 says:

yea….Delgado pretty consistently grounds out to the right side. Maybe HE should be our #2 hitter!

  14. Nightlife says:

Church rules and mega lols @ Harris’s attempt at that ball.

  15. Nightlife says:

    Delgado

    :(

  16. PacmanJones says:

    Thanks Delgado… RETIRE!

  17. ryno says:

It’s good to see that Carlos Delgado has become a fatter version of Luis Castillo.

    • PacmanJones says:

Except Castillo actually knows how to play defense, whereas delgado forgets how to cover the bag. So whereas Castillo is good for SOMETHING, delgrampa is good for NOTHING. I’d gain so much respect for him if he realized he was hurting the team and decided to hang it up!

      Metsblog shout out! Yay!

  18. mex84 says:

    Delgotnothingleft?

    • PacmanJones says:

Do you think Delgado would accept an advisory role similar to what the Knicks gave Isiah Thomas? We could put him in charge of player development in puerto rico, people may still respect him there.

  19. atrain311 says:

Come on Jose, let’s rip a trip.

  20. khmustache says:

    delgodiwantittobe1999again?

  21. Dirtysanchez says:

Alright lets go slappy…Time to get lucky

  22. WrightsRight says:

    Man, I miss 2006 Reyes….

  23. Dirtysanchez says:

    GOOOO SLAPPY!!!!!!!!!!
    GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. atrain311 says:

    Holy Crap!!!!!
It was hard hit and out of the infield!

  25. metsfan119 says:

Mets better win this game, because let’s be honest, they’re losing to Smoltz, and most likely won’t hit Hudson in the next series.

    • atrain311 says:

I’d love for that to be incorrect, but their track records speak for themselves.

    • andyglass1 says:

i saw the braves on sunday; sat 3 rows behind the scouts behind home plate…. the braves looked hot….. almost 3 hrs in an inning. one went wide by a foot, the other hit off the top of the wall. I spoke to the Mets scout at the game. some guy with a Pittsbg WS ring – not sure if he played on the 79 team. He said he thought Gomez had the most potential of the 4 we gave up for Johan. I would have thought it was Deolis. He confirmed it was a no brainer of a deal.

  26. cousinrk says:

I know David and Jose are always mentioned together but do they have to take the same streaks together too? Geez, they are O for the week so far it seems like

  27. atrain311 says:

    Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
    I hate leadoff walks.

  28. khmustache says:

supernova always has crap going wrong with his equipment

  29. Nightlife says:

Hahahaha at the Nats announcer for jinxing Guzman.

  30. Gasface77 says:

Church is the only guy on this team that consistently looks present on defense and at the plate. Can’t ask for more than that…even if he is playing slightly over his head. I don’t think he is, but he seems like a winning type player.

  31. edwin nieves says:

    Not when there for us.

  32. Gasface77 says:

That was a successful at bat for Delgado…I expected a DP. Good job.

    • Nightlife says:

Lol. I was going to post the same thing. Just gotta minimize those outs.

    • metsfan119 says:

Just based on what Gary and Ron said after his strikeout about how he feels good at the plate and everything, it just sounds like Delgado is in denial. Carlos, WAKEUP, you’re not a 40 home run hitter anymore, adjust!

      • Gasface77 says:

Is it just me or does he look like he’s doing a jig in the batter’s box. His feet are moving, his hands are moving…he’s all over the place. I remember him being being more steady and calm at bat. I guess he is just as nervous as we are when he gets up.

        • metsfan119 says:

I just think he realizes that he can’t sit back on fastballs anymore because his bat has slowed. That makes him uncomfortable at the plate.

  33. metsfan119 says:

It’s sad, but I actually have more faith in Perez hitting the runner in from 3rd than Reyes

  34. gipper91375 says:

Way to go Ollie! Better AB than Jose or Delgado have been having lately!

  35. Dirtysanchez says:

lmao its funny how the pitchers are more consistent than some of the hitters. Great hit up the middle OP

  36. jcervone7 says:

I hate to use this term, but its nice to see the Mets “manufacturing” runs tonight. If the big hits aren’t working sometimes you gotta nickel and dime ‘em.

  37. Nightlife says:

Hahahaha again at the Nats announcers jinxing their team.

  38. Dirtysanchez says:

    kmon reyes

  39. Dirtysanchez says:

    man…………..

  40. khmustache says:

i’ll bet jeter is an overrated car salesman too

  41. Nightlife says:

That was probably a ball Reyes hit……

    ugh

At least he is having longer ABs I guess.

  42. Gasface77 says:

On another note, I hope Hughes gets shelled tonight. :)

  43. alpitt says:

Random question: does anyone know if there has been a switch hitter who was struggling so bad from one side that he switched primarily to the other side?

    • khmustache says:

mike schmidt came up as a switch hitter but it only lasted for a couple of years. it probably happens quite often early on in young players careers

  44. Nightlife says:

Man, nice play by Reyes. Thats usually an out, though we have gotten a lot of close calls go our way so far this series.

  45. Dirtysanchez says:

n e body know his pitch count?

  46. Dirtysanchez says:

    nasty curve………..

  47. Dirtysanchez says:

    damn…..castillo…..

  48. Nightlife says:

    Hey Castillo is alive!

  49. Dirtysanchez says:

    wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  50. khmustache says:

when it rains it pours dwright

  51. playmaker3128 says:

Maybe I (like most of you) was to quick to get on castillo. Thing is he can still hit, its just he’s got to swing the bat. Pitchers go up there and just throw right down the middle to him, if their gonna do that then he’s gotta swing. When he’s ahead in the count he’s gotta take his hacks. Thus he’s been getting hits lately.

Once he has two strikes on him he can go to slapping the ball the other way.

  52. Nightlife says:

    That was a ball.

  53. Metdamage says:

well Castillo is swinging well but in two weeks if he’s 3 for 15 some met fans will call for his head.

  54. alpitt says:

I think David may need to close his stance up more or inch a little closer to the plate. He never seems to reach those outside pitches and take them the other way like he’s done in the past. Though that was an awful call.

  55. ryno says:

Castillo better ask for a few days off to rest that bruise.

  56. CitizenSnips says:

    Hope Castillo’s ok.

  57. Dirtysanchez says:

i hope he does hit well in this series, get some confidence back.

  58. WrightsRight says:

The concept of protecting the plate is completely alien to these guys…

  59. Nightlife says:

    That was a strike though.

  60. WrightsRight says:

It was a great pitch…he should be swinging there not doing his best NLCS 2006 impression.

  61. alpitt says:

    Indeed. Ugh.

  62. Dirtysanchez says:

    HALLELUAHHHHHHHHHHH
    CHURCH!!

  63. Nightlife says:

    Nice one Church.

  64. Metdamage says:

Church rakes where ever he is in the lineup. Just a greay addition to the Mets overall

  65. gipper91375 says:

Ryan Church should be HoJo’s deputy hitting coach and talk some sense into these guys. He always seems to have smart ABs

  66. edwin nieves says:

“The Church, the Church is on fire, We don’t need no water…….”

  67. jcervone7 says:

Nats Announcer “The Mets have made the most of their limited opportunities”

It feels so good to finally hear that.

  68. Mitten says:

anyone else see church as a less-talented david wright? it just seems like he has a great approach and work ethnic…very likeable…wish we had more guys like him

    • Dirtysanchez says:

I know its a small sample size but man i would venture to say nobody thought church would be this good.

  69. Nightlife says:

    Way to go Delgado!!!!

    :(

  70. Nightlife says:

Can someone tell Perez its okay to throw first pitch strikes and not start every batter 3-0 after the 3rd inning?

  71. Dirtysanchez says:

    uh-o here we go

  72. khmustache says:

whods that guy walking to the mound not wearing a jacket?

  73. Nightlife says:

This Nats play-by-play man is the king of making premature calls.

“Strike three got him lookin— no its ball 3″

“Look at Harris go! Wait, hes just going to stay at second.” etc. etc. etc.

  74. Dirtysanchez says:

omg hes going to load the bases with 0 out?!

  75. gipper91375 says:

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Ollie Perez mid-game mental breakdown.

    • Dirtysanchez says:

lolllllllll this is why he gets yanked early. Hes going to kill his pitch count in this inning

  76. khmustache says:

    damn

  77. Dirtysanchez says:

    great………………………………….

    • QueenOfQueens says:

And people wonder why we get frustrated with this team? Can ANYTHING ever be easy? Its the NATIONALS!

  78. erik says:

Tonight’s word is “Meltdown”. Let’s say it together.

  79. edwin nieves says:

This is where Willie freezes up. Should have yanked him after the third walk. Willie’s fault.

    • Dirtysanchez says:

yea but we would have killed willie in the blogs tomorrow for pulling him to early. The life of a manager

    • Nightlife says:

You don’t pull your starter in the 5th inning in a 3-2 game.

  80. Dirtysanchez says:

    man 0 out

  81. Dirtysanchez says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    NOT SOSA!!!!!!
    THANK GOD FOR BELTRAN

  82. erik says:

It’s weird. It’s like he suddenly forgets how to pitch halfway through the game.

    • Nightlife says:

I know, every game. Cruises through a few innings, then starts a few batters 3-0 maybe gets out of a jam, starts another inning with a couple guys 3-0, doesn’t get so lucky the second time around.

      • Dirtysanchez says:

its funny but its always at the same part of the game. hes good for 4 but after that its an adventure

  83. khmustache says:

    thank god for beltran

  84. jcervone7 says:

How easy does Beltran make it look?

  85. alpitt says:

    running on eggs? What?

  86. Dirtysanchez says:

    these announcers are sooooooooooo annoying

  87. WrightsRight says:

    friggin headcase

  88. Dirtysanchez says:

    CRAP!!!!
KMON OP LETS GET IT TOGETHER MAN

  89. Dirtysanchez says:

    good call manny…good call
    welp back to square 1

  90. Dirtysanchez says:

    HELL YEA WRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  91. erik says:

Atleast Luis got the sure out and didn’t just throw the ball away.

  92. Nightlife says:

    DWRIGHT

    Gold Glove

  93. dykstraw says:

    lol

delgado needed a kick in the pants

  94. Darryl Strawberry says:

7 8 9 in the lineup and a rally starts, three runs score with two nice defensive plays to save him. I’m so sick of Perez.

    • Nightlife says:

Well, if he can give us another inning I think I’ll be content with the start.

We need more offense, I’m talking to you Reyes, Wright, and Beltran.

      And now….WTF Casanova!!???

    • Gina says:

I hate to make excuses for him but this is the second righty heavy line-up in a row he’s faced. Righties are killing him so far this year.

  95. Darryl Strawberry says:

This team has major problems which become more evident each game. It’s a shame, but let’s face it they are 500 at best.

  96. Dirtysanchez says:

    HEY NADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    GOOD TIMES

  97. alpitt says:

Delgado gets his ass kicked in every facet of the game.

    Too easy.

  98. khmustache says:

supernova’s a switch hitter?! maybe he should concentrate on one side of the plate

  99. Dirtysanchez says:

    WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    WHY IS HE ON FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    WOWWWW

  100. khmustache says:

    i love harris…nice running supernova

  101. Dirtysanchez says:

    lol these nats…………

  102. alpitt says:

    disgusting

  103. khmustache says:

this game has become unbearable to watch…i feel like i’m watching my little brother’s tee ball games

  104. pedro4545 says:

CASANOVA WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU

  105. BlueTrane says:

I didnt know the Rockford Peaches were playing tonight…

  106. Dirtysanchez says:

wow for once i agree with the announcer…..

  107. Dirtysanchez says:

i think reyes needs another pep talk from beltran

    • Nightlife says:

Hes swinging at the pitchers pitches and rolling over or popping up and letting the meaty strikes go by.

  108. WrightsRight says:

how many times have we heard, “X pitcher made his major league debut against the Mets and went 7 shutout innings, giving up just 2 hits….”

  109. domosnacks5 says:

Keep getting busted for dogging it, when are they going to realize to just RUN HARD OUT OF THE BOX AND PICK UP YOUR BASE COACHES

  110. khmustache says:

what do you get if you cross a ben stiller with a monkey?

    • khmustache says:

      guiseppe franco

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

I posted this in another thread earlier, but I doubt anyone saw it.

If you search for Guiseppe Franco on you tube you will see something really ridiculous. Yeah, more ridiculous than Procede.

  111. CitizenSnips says:

Casanova is so used to not getting on base that when he finally does he has no idea what to do.

  112. Darryl Strawberry says:

No fight in this team and Reyes just looks clueless at the plate. Behind in every count, dropping his shoulder one at bat then the next upper cutting. He swings at balls, lets strikes pass. This team looks too much like September 2007 to me.

  113. Dirtysanchez says:

awww willie’s giving perez a chance for a win.
and as usual perez make the most of it *sarcastic*

  114. WrightsRight says:

    Larry Jones: .422, 7HR, 20 rbis….

He turned 36 today….he’s older than Delgado…perhaps Carlos can ask him what his secret is…

  115. khmustache says:

leave him in…let him go 9!!!

  116. Dirtysanchez says:

    lolllll BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE lolll
Ah gotta love the old chants lolllll

  117. WrightsRight says:

“It all started out so well for Oliver tonight.”

‘STARTED’ – isn’t that the operative word for Oliver these days?

  118. Dirtysanchez says:

    smart play good out.

  119. Dirtysanchez says:

kmon op get outta dis man

  120. Nightlife says:

Hey! A little bit of luck there!

  121. Dirtysanchez says:

    lol 2 outs
    OK!! TALK ABOUT DRAMA
    LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENS
    GET YOUR POPCORN OUT

  122. Nightlife says:

Nice, I like seeing Heilman coming in earlier like he did in ‘06.

  123. Dirtysanchez says:

    aw crap…heilman……..

  124. Dirtysanchez says:

great what else is new. Throw a strike

  125. Dirtysanchez says:

ok great way to come back…..put em away
    nvrmind 3-2

  126. Dirtysanchez says:

    FOUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    AWW MAN!!!!!!!!!!
we would have never heard the end of that one if it was fair

  127. theperfectgame says:

So, 1 hit, 0 runs, 39 pitches through 3 innings for OP… and he leaves the game before the end of the 6th having completely relinquished the lead… my blood pressue hopes we don’t re-sign him this offseason…

  128. Dirtysanchez says:

    walk………………..
    bases loaded
    look familiar

  129. Dirtysanchez says:

    OMG!!!

  130. Dirtysanchez says:

    ……………………………..

  131. AlreadyMissShea says:

OK, who didn’t see that coming?

  132. theperfectgame says:

    yep… saw that coming……

  133. domosnacks5 says:

Aaron Heilman, April 25th 2008, designated for assignment.

  134. alpitt says:

good night folks, have a good one

  135. HITorDIE25 says:

Honestly OP isnt something you can count on. Way too inconsistent. Loads of talent but a total mental midget. I hope we don’t resign him and save that money to go after a #2 or #3 guy, someone who is a INNINGS eater.

    A god damn grand slam

  136. casey s. says:

i vote to have heilman never pitch again.

    • scottmetsfan says:

willie will have him back in tomorrow night to show him how much faith he still has in him. not sure why heilman was brought in anyway. i wouldn’t bring him in anywhere.

  137. Darryl Strawberry says:

What a mess we have on our hands with this team.

  138. WrightsRight says:

Sun rises in the east, sets in the west, heilman gives up a big HR. He is absolutely terrible.

  139. Dirtysanchez says:

one out JUST ONE ##### OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS GUY IS KILLING ME . I USED TO DEFEND HEILMAN BUT MAN THIS IS GETTING OUT OF CONTROL. WATCH HIM GET GUZMAN OUT AFTER THE GS. UNBELIEVABLE…………….

  140. Nightlife says:

    Well, Heilman sucks.

Think he still has some value?

  141. mark5674 says:

this is why people question willies job.. why cant perez get out of his own problems? its the bottom of the 6th!! geez why would you bring in heilman

    • domosnacks5 says:

because he clearly can’t pitch in the 7th or 8th. Now it’s official that he can’t pitch on this team at all. Wonder is Omar has the gnuts to deal him, preferrably tonight.

  142. gomets6091 says:

Aaron Heilman might just be the least clutch pitcher in the history of the Major Leagues.

oh wait, that’s right, we have Jorge Sosa too

  143. metsfanatic says:

This year’s Mota – Aaron Heilman!

  144. WrightsRight says:

    Let me amend that…
Sun rises in the east, sets in the west, Oliver collapses, heilman gives up a big HR. He is absolutely terrible.

  145. theperfectgame says:

on the bright side, now i don’t have to watch the rest of the game

  146. pedro4545 says:

    Great.

  147. khmustache says:

i really hate helman…i hate the way he licks his stupid hand… i hate his stupid “i just gave up another grand slam” face….AND I HATE HOW HE IMMEDIATELY FALLS BEHIND THE NEXT HITTER!!!!!!

  148. Dirtysanchez says:

    this guy………..no words…………

    • Hernandez_1B says:

Am I the only person in here that thinks Willie should be forced to hand off all pitching decisions to the Jacket? There is absolutely no reason for Ollie to start the 6th after his horrible 5th. No reason what so ever. Also, Sosa needs to go and bring up Kunz

  149. dykstraw says:

    wow

i am just so tired of this freaking story

  150. Andrew says:

It’s officially time to get rid of Heilman.

  151. Darryl Strawberry says:

I wouldn’t be suprised if our lineup didn’t reach base for the rest of the game. Next we face three hot pitchers from the Braves at Shea where our lineup struggles even more.

  152. The Flesh says:

Heilman is the worst. Mets are so disappointing.

  153. BlueTrane says:

I will now stop trying to think that Heilman is just inconsistent.

    He consistently gives up HRs

  154. WrightsRight says:

At least the team is hitting so well that there is a great chance for a comeback..

  155. johnolerud says:

Lol, ohhh Willie. Heilman and Willie deserve eachother.

  156. Ryan Synagogue says:

We must lead the league in Grand Slams against. Another brilliant decision by this retard we call a manager.

Just keep running him out there, he’ll break out of his slump, just like ****ing Mota did last year too, right?

Get this piece of **** Randolph away from our team

  157. casey s. says:

anyone that voted that delgado was the biggest problem that the mets have (i think it was 62%) was DEAD wrong. my vote (along with i think 18%) was the bullpen. and, we were very right. this team is in very real trouble if it can’t sort out the bullpen, and quick!

  158. Darryl Strawberry says:

Heilman has given up more homeruns than Beltran and Delgado have hit combined.

  159. khmustache says:

    does anybody know heilman’s era?

  160. AlreadyMissShea says:

Please just leave him out there.

  161. scottmetsfan says:

two men on now…what are the chances of heilman giving up two grand slams in one innning?

  162. theperfectgame says:

I think I just got a hit off of Aaron Heilman…

  163. joon8 says:

    Same crap, different pamper

    WOW……………

  165. DoYouSeeInHD says:

I went into the crapper, the game was tied. I left the crapper and Heilman coughed up another one. I should have stayed in the crapper.

  166. Nightlife says:

Why does this Nats guy keep thinking we played the Cubs on the weekend and played more than 2 games? Thats about the 50th time hes mentioned that over these two games.

  167. khmustache says:

listen to the mets fans booing!

  168. Dirtysanchez says:

UNBELIEVABLE JUST CATCH THE NEXT BUS TO AAA.
    i cant believe this man………

  169. andyglass1 says:

  172. Dirtysanchez says:

    lol new poll
who do you think mets fans hate more now
    show or heilman lol
i think heilman just took this guy off the hook

    • gomets6091 says:

heilman by a country mile. At least Show doesn’t pitch anymore it seems like. A better poll would be Heilman vs. Sosa

  173. marvelousmarv says:

Hasn’t he and everyone else been used like every god damn day. Why bring him in now. And why the hell can’t OP throw strikes. BBs has been a problem or Maine too. Whats up w/ the team. I dont get it…

  174. throatneedle says:

heilman sucks…he’s the new guillermo mota. get rid of him!

  175. casey s. says:

it’s time the team makes a serious assessment of heilman and his state of mind. he’s not cutting it and something has to be done. pathetic.

  176. Darryl Strawberry says:

It’s not just the bullpen, every facet of this team has problems. Some personel better be held accountable soon.

  177. MetsRmilife says:

I think I am just going to start refering to these as Hielman innings.

  178. Dirtysanchez says:

And people want this guy to start…….We will be down 8 nothin by the 5th

  179. The Flesh says:

A waist high change up on 3-2 when every batter has just been sitting on that pitch????

  180. AlreadyMissShea says:

Remember the road trip to Wrigley just two short years ago where the Mets started hitting around a bazillion grand slams?

What a difference two years makes.

    • Dirtysanchez says:

i was reminiscing about that. Good times. I dont think we ever hit a GS after that

    • khmustache says:

man that season was tits…everything just had a different feel to it. you just knew that they were going to win….man this sucks

  181. DoYouSeeInHD says:

Is Loudmouths on after the game?

  182. Dirtysanchez says:

and of course the game is over because its not like the offense is on fire to come back. Talk about 360 from yesterday

    • cafuq says:

This team does not seem to be able to make a comeback. After they get behind, they seem to just want to go back to the hotel. When they get behind, its over. But that is just how it seems to me.

  183. casey s. says:

so basically, if the opposing team doesn’t kick around the ball, we struggle. can’t drive the ball for nothing. and, when we do, the hitter doesn’t know how to run past first without missing the bag (casanova). granted, they so infrequently have to run past first, they really don’t know what to do when they get there.

  184. dykstraw says:

    on the bright side -

less than a week until grand theft auto 4!

  185. D-Day says:

heilman is DONE, there is no way willie should ever use this guy again and if he does hes NUTS!!!! just trade him for ANYTHING. get a pack of big league chew and a soda for him. I DONT CARE!!!! this guy just needs to be shown the door and if willie defends him or says that “i still have faith im my guys” crap i swear ill kick my tv through the WALL!!!!!

  186. Jimbabway says:

anyone that voted that delgado was the biggest problem that the mets have (i think it was 62%) was DEAD wrong. my vote (along with i think 18%) was the bullpen. and, we were very right. this team is in very real trouble if it can’t sort out the bullpen, and quick!

Then i guess 62% of the people in this blog are not watching the same team….

THIS IS THE SAME 2007 TEAM heading for DIASTER!!!
HEILMAN!!! DESERVES TO GET BOOED AT ALL METS HOMES GAMES FROM NOW ON!!

    • Miller204 says:

Anyone who doen’t see the real problem with this team as willie then they have never watched baseball. This team has no confidence in their manager at all. He learned from the torre school of how to use a bullpen. He keeps saying he wants his starters to go longer in the game but yet he never lets them get out of their own jams. I dont blame heilman for anything in the that inning. I blame Willie for putting him in that situation. You know that he isnt pitching well so far this year yet you bring him into a situation to fail. He has overused the bullpen all year. Just like last night using sanchez and wagner when you could have left santana out for the next inning with only 96 pitches. Until Willie is gone this team will never win a thing.

  187. DoYouSeeInHD says:

I wonder what Scott Farrell will have to say about this on Wheelhouse tomorrow.

  188. DoYouSeeInHD says:

Beltran killed the rally. Thanks Carlos.

  189. casey s. says:

    NOW beltran hits a homer…

  190. WrightsRight says:

…now he hits a HR….might as well do it when the pressure’s off and your team is getting beat

  191. Dirtysanchez says:

beltran thank you for your contribution

  192. Dirtysanchez says:

    KMON CHURCH BACK TO BACK

  193. khmustache says:

did anybody else see that weird face the pitcher made…it kinda freaked me out

  194. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

heilman is done. frankly, he was done after he gave up that homerun in the playoffs in 2006. they should release him, or trade him for a prospect (if they can get one). it isn’t going to happen for him here. and willie is too stupid and stubborn to stop putting him in

  195. D-Day says:

not only did he give up the grand salami, he gave it to LOPEZ, the guy hasnt hit a homer all season and heilman made him look like puljols!! embarassing!

  196. Chiefman says:

I am usually very restrained in my opinions. But I have had it wth Heilman. He is KILLING this team and I hope he never picthes another inning for the NY Mets. He stinks to high heaven and I better not hear Willie making excuses for him after the game. They ought to ship his sorry a** to AAA and keep him there forever.

  197. itsmetsforme says:

if only baseball games were 3-4 innings we’d have something here.

  198. khmustache says:

wily mo pena, aaron boone and i can’t play cernterfield for s*** harris are coming up…10-4 anyone?

  199. DoYouSeeInHD says:

  203. HITorDIE25 says:

Nobody else except Church is doing anything. Atleast Beltran provided something…I think we will take what we can get.

  204. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

and let’s not forget perez. i’m tired of his inability to go even a full 6 innings. that’s a bunch of crap. there’s no way you resign this guy for the kind of money boras wants.

  205. Dirtysanchez says:

he REALLY needs to get his stuff together. Send him to AAA and give him a breather and for him to work on his mechanics. Send up muniz for a while because forget it

heilman is a decent pitcher that has been horrible this year. How many times are you going to put him in tight games while he is going this bad??? How about putting him in games that there is a 3 or more run lead or behind until he straightens himself out???

  208. casey s. says:

    this is UGLY.

  209. DoYouSeeInHD says:

Don’t worry about Heilman or Sosa. Rick Peterson can fix their mechanics in twenty minutes.

well this is the looooooongest 20 minutes ive seen. Talk about taking your time

  210. Dirtysanchez says:

    reyes makes an error
    LOOKS FAMILIAR……………..

  211. MetsRmilife says:

This team is rapidly becoming unwatchable. Much like the end of last season I just keep waiting every game for the other shoe to drop and it is starting to really coincide with when Aaron Heilman enters the game. It seems like other than Church no one in this lineup can hit consistently. The bullpen looks like a AA squad at best. AND as I write this REYES manages to make my point about defense. I hope they turn this around but I have a feeling it is going to be a long summer

  212. erik says:

I’m done tonight. Gonna watch the rest of Fantastic Four on FX. Atleast there’s something worth it there.

  215. joon8 says:

Is there anybody else to turn to when the game is tied or close besides Heilman, Mota, or schoneweiss? Wille keeps turning to them in these situations and I’m not sure if he’s just a moron or if he has no other options.

  216. MetsRmilife says:

Anyone know where Matt Wise is? I dont know if he is the answer but its another arm that MIGHT get the job done.

  217. AlreadyMissShea says:

    And the beat goes on…

  218. Dirtysanchez says:

yep game over. who goes tomorrow

  219. Jefferies 9 says:

My prediction for Pelfrey’s line tomorrow :

    4 1/3 inn
    6 Hits
    4 BB
    7 ER

  220. joon8 says:

We only get Fan Confidence polls after Met victories. Thats why we finally got one earlier today. We probably won’t get another until Santana’s next start.

    • Dirtysanchez says:

      lol thats about right

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

The polls should come twice a month on set dates, like the 1st and the 15th.

That way there can’t be any doubt about their timing or whether or not someone is trying to prevent the results from being posted.

Matt doesn’t owe anyone an explanation since it’s his site, but if everyone who takes the time to vote understands that the polls will run on set days regardless or whether they’re winning or losing, it will eliminate a lot of the debate.

  221. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Pelf will go seven.
    He’ll give up two runs.
    We’ll lose 2-1.
And Willie will express his disappointment in Mike Pelfrey.

    • MeesesGlokmah says:

Unfortunately, that’s likely what will happen. I’m still optimistic though.

  222. dykstraw says:

at this point i would replace delgado with a fathead sticker of delgado

  223. gipper91375 says:

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2008 NY Mets.

  224. cafuq says:

    woo hoo two outs

  225. Chiefman says:

You gotta be kidding me with this crap. How can a team play like such horsecrap and give games away. This is really really disgusting.

  226. D-Day says:

did they somehow talk the tigers into putting on the nats uniforms tonight and playing a game or what!!! PAINFUL!!!!!!

  227. cafuq says:

why couldnt that foul ball hit ‘nova?

  228. metman04 says:

Delgado and Heilman are such trash…maybe pittsburgh would take heilman and a crappy prospect for nady and then we can just stick delgado in a nursing home

  229. casey s. says:

  234. domosnacks5 says:

    Jorge Blowsa

  235. washtiger says:

    This is painful.

Delgado, Heilman, and Sosa are killing us. Reyes has his head up his ***… He looked good for a few games, but 0 for freakin’ 9 against the worst team in the league?!?!? Beltran can only hit with no one on base when we’re losing.

If anything, get Heilman outta here. He’s damaged goods. Sosa just plain doesn’t have it. Delgado is done.

    Sheesh!

  236. Bobby Bones in SC says:

I’m starting to think this is going to be a long year. Based on this performance it won’t be too much longer an then maybe some heads will start to roll.

Starting pitching can’t go deep and throws way to many balls.

Power numbers are horrible, and the offense sputters constantly. If it wasn’t for Church, Pagan, and Schnieder image how bad it would be.

    The defense sucks

And the bullpen is absolutely pathetic.

Hard to believe we were winning this game 3 to nothing after four.

    • cafuq says:

If it wasn’t for Church, Pagan, and Schnieder image how bad it would be.

Three guys not here last September

      • Bobby Bones in SC says:

That is exactly my point. Other than Wright and occasionally Beltran the rest of the team looks very bad.

    • MetsRmilife says:

Santana is sitting in the dugout thinking, “is this really what is signed up for?”

      • D-Day says:

yeah right, the only time we win is when santana pitchs and he has to go like 7-8 just to make sure the bullpen doesnt screw that up for him too, PAINFUL!!!

  237. TheHammer says:

Heres part of the problem…two pitch Heilman and 2 pitch Sosa…pretty tough guessing which pitch they will throw.

  238. Wayneoo says:

Can we get Mota back so Willie can keep trucking him out there to get shelled? What an idiot.

  239. AlreadyMissShea says:

Well I make it a point to never leave a game early or walk away from a game I’m watching on TV.

My dogs don’t know about that rule of mine, and they don’t care.

So I’m going to walk away from this before they do something on the carpet that looks like what I’ve been watching on my TV.

I’ll be back. Don’t want to miss Willie addressing the media.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

By the way, the remote was on the couch where one of the dogs was sleeping. When I got their leashes, he jumped up, stepped on the remote, and changed the channel.

      My dogs are smart.

  240. domosnacks5 says:

I knew I shoulda watched The Office tonight…

  241. joon8 says:

This team will never win with Willie as manager. The players are not held accountable for their ineptness. Schoneweiss and Mota have sucked since last year, Heiman has alway been inconsistent and Wille keeps running them out there in critical situations. Delgado has been slumping since all last year and he only gets dropped 1 spot in the order. The players are too comfortable. They know that no matter how much they suck, willie will play them.

  242. TheHammer says:

Gotta stick with your guy there….Ollie was a nice lil rythym before that inning. Aaron’s gonna be fine…..blah blah blah…I have complete faith in Delgado….he will hit….blah blah blah….The 2008 Mets just suck someone find me Bobby V.

  243. gipper91375 says:

Just recall, many here wanted Heilman to be a starter!

  244. Ryan Synagogue says:

    Carlos Mendoza

  245. cafuq says:

    Almost warning track power

  246. gomets6091 says:

Can Johan play first base 4 days a week?

  247. stickguy says:

    Man, this is ugly.

Let’s see. OP is doing his best to cost himself some serious $$ in the off season. He should have just offered to sign for 5/70 or so, and the Mets probably would have jumped at it.

    Heilmann looks completely lost.

Sosa is done. Time fo rhim to move on again.

SO, I re-propose my idea of the other day. Of course, no idea what trade value Heilmann has now!

Trade Aaron for something if you can get a useful part (this was the Morales concept).

    Dump Sosa.

Bring up Muniz and/or Kunz. When Pedro comes back (if?) FIggy can also go to the pen.

Heilmann at this point is likely mental, and the fans will brutalize him. So, classic case of needing a change of scenary.

Sosa just sucks, and needs to go.

I am actually worried that Feliciano isn’t going to straighten out either, but that would be the next problem to deal with.

  248. Chiefman says:

    Sosa ERA now 7.36
    Heilman ERA now 6.13

The Mets could bring up any picther in their system and they would almost certainly have a better ERA and outperform those two bums. Sosa’s ERA would have been worse except Reyes ERA made 2 runs unearned.

Those two guys STINK, STINK, STINK.

  249. stickguy says:

Oh, and in case anyone didn’t realize, Delgado is really bad. Even if the hitting rebounds a little, the defense has gotten attrocious. Can he even bend anymore?

1 month, and he needs to go. HOpefully the team is still hanging around in contention at that point!

This could be an ugly weekend coming up.

    • domosnacks5 says:

But you know by the grace of god, they’ll win 2 of 3, Wright will go 10 for 15, and then we will get swept by the Pirates. No consistency so far.

  250. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

i haven’t posted much b/c there really isn’t much to say. but i will reiterate a view i’ve had going back to the summer of last year. this is not a playoff team. too many old players.. too many guys with no personality and still no bullpen..which was the main thing omar had to fix in the off season

    heilman is done–release him
delgado is done. call up karp.. wouldn’t you like to have mike jacobs back?
beltran– i have no clue–but i’ve never been a big fan. he’s overrated and over paid
reyes–he isn’t the player we thought he would be. he’s good but no superstar. he’s the fifth best shortstop in the league right now

that’s a lot of holes to fix. and a very bad farm system to work with

    • MetsRmilife says:

Other than reyes I completely agree. I would try and shop heilman before releasing him….we could use a bag of balls.

The saddest thing of all is in july when we are in 3rd place they will be adding aging veterans to WIN NOW!

    • TheHammer says:

I never thought giving up Jacobs for this old washed up bum was EVER a good idea!

      • darkstar73 says:

well then you didn’t enjoy going to the 2006 NLCS, because Delgado was a huge part of that.

        • gomets6091 says:

          ah, beat my to it

        • gomets6091 says:

beat ME to it….man, the Mets are making me loopy

        • TheHammer says:

Well It didnt get them anywhere….cause Beltran is still standing at the plate looking at a curve ball from wainright

        • darkstar73 says:

well, as for Beltran, that curveball has a 33 HR, 112 RBI, 20 SB, gold glove CF season between then and now, so I think he’s doing just fine for us minus that one at bat, but hey, lets just judge him on one at bat anyway.

        • gomets6091 says:

that’s not Delgado’s fault: he hit .354 with 4 HRs in the postseason.

      • gomets6091 says:

to be fair, with Mike Jacobs instead of Delgado in 2006, that wouldn’t have been a 97 win team. Delgado was WAY better than Jacobs in ‘06. Of course, last year they were about even, and now Jacobs is clearly better. Dem’s the breaks.

      • therealsince86 says:

And what exactly has Jacobs done? We would still be looking for a 1B and there is no way we get as far as we did in 06.

  251. QueenOfQueens says:

I think I may have officially lost faith in this team. I think I will lose all expectations, and expect the worst like I used to with this team. That way if they ever get their act together I can be pleasantly surprised and it doesnt have to feel like I am getting my heart ripped out every night.

  252. gipper91375 says:

Man it’s gonna be fun opening Citi Field in rebuilding mode.

    • therealsince86 says:

Why would we be in rebuilding mode Gip? We will not lose any Core players unless Perez leaves.
Alou, Delgado, Pedro, Eldque are almost gone now and can finally be replaced with some youth but they are not the core of the team even right now. Unless you are trading Reyes or Beltran.

      • gipper91375 says:

Cause we’re in rebuilding mode now…not championship run mode…and its only going to get worse as the cupboard is pretty bare.

        Eh…2006 was their chance.

So sick with anger and bitterness over this group. i know, I know, I am overreacting….maybe because i have to have surgery next week and am pissy….but still….this group is embarrassing.

  253. joon8 says:

    Oops I meant Sosa

  254. darkstar73 says:

anyone know if Sosa has options? When Wise is healthy, he needs to go. As for Heilman, he needs to get pushed down a couple rungs on the bullpen pecking order, Willie has to build him back up using him in less tight stuations, and hopefully he can get it back together, you can’t give up on him yet, just start using Smith in those situations. I also can’t blame Willie for going to Heilman here, Ollie didn’t have it, and its the 6th inning, so you can’t use Sanchez or Wags yet. Heilman should beable to fill that role, but its obvious at this point, he can’t. So all I can say is that Willie will hopefully learn from today.

  255. stickguy says:

I am starting to think that this could be a very big weekend for this team.

If they go back to SHea and play solid ball and win a couple against the Braves (and the pitching comes through), they will get some time, and maybe prove it is just a little funk.

If they get slaughtered in 3 games and every flaw is exposed, it should be time to make a preemptive strick and doing something more drastic than just go with the flow.

And that includes moving Willie out to get some fresh attitude in there. And doing something with Delgado.

  256. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

the team has a lot of bad, lackluster players. but the problem began with bringing willie back. someone had to take the blame for last year’s dismal ending and willie, as well know, did nothing to stop the disaster.. in fact, he contributed to it. bringing willie back meant not change in attitude for this team. and they are playing just like they did last year–except for that hot start

  257. TheHammer says:

I said it before and Ill say it again. Homer Heilman has 2 pitches…you have a 50/50 chance on a guess…they are clearly sitting on his changeup just as Ron Darling said earlier…it’s not rocket science….every year he works on new pitch in Spring training and it disappears in the real season.

    • darkstar73 says:

most relievers don’t have 3 pitches, its why they’re relievers. Also, Heilman had a 3rd pitch when he started, a slider, but he shelved it when he became a reliever. I really think this has nothing to do with how Heilman does, because frankly, he’s been dominant with 2 pitches before. He just sucks right now. hopefully willie will just stop using him in tight situations for now, and he can regain some confidence.

  258. domosnacks5 says:

anybody see that ump giving delgado the biz? maybe delgado is trying to get tossed and spare us, or maybe this ump is a mets fan and is letting delgado know what we all think of him.

    • TheHammer says:

Angel hernandez is not a Mets Fan I assure you.

      • gipper91375 says:

LOL. Definitely not. Still, Delgado started in with him, for no apparent reason.

        • dannyguira says:

i read his lips and read him say” you efffing faaag, you piece of SH**T. now i thought i was alone but i wrote to matt to see if we can get that clip and everybody try to spell what hes telling delgado that made delgado complain to the home plate umpire.

      • khmustache says:

paul the juica saw to that last year

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Angel Hernandez has problems with everyone.
This is a guy who had an organ player ejected for playing The Blind Mice. He’s had fans thrown out of games. He’s never had even a basic understanding of where his authority begins and ends.

      • domosnacks5 says:

I thought it was hernandez, i didn’t want to say it incase I was wrong and sounded like a retard. it all makes sense now though.

  259. Bobby Bones in SC says:

My youngest son who is 13 is a fan and is also serious baseball player. The last three or four times Hielman has come in, he has just gotten up and left the room. muttering something along the lines of this guy sucks.

I use to think think that Hielman would be okay, but he really looks like he has lost all nerve and is throwing too good of a stike. Most of which are getting turned around into long balls.

  260. SantanaCYYOung says:

where was joe smith to pitch against lastings milledge?

  261. Chiefman says:

    My suggestions:

Release Delgado, eat the money that’s left.
    Release Sosa.
    Send Heilman to AAA.
Bring up Carp and pkay him every day.
    Bring back Carlos Muniz.

Give Willie 30 days to get this team in shape and if we are not leading the division, fire him.

I am sick of BAD losses. This team is contiuing the misery of last September and while I don’t hate Willie like some of you do, somebody needs to be held accountable and it’s him.

One more little thing. Early in this game we had Castillo on 2nd with none out. Wright came up and instead of being aggressive he took a stike at 3-1 and then another at 3-2. He is an RBI man; he should be swinging to drive in runs, not walking. Then Beltran comes up, Castillo goes to the 3rd on a wild pitch. Only one out..what doeds Beltran do? Takes a called third strike. These are our RBI guys…why are they taking pitches? They should be adding to our lead knowing that if our SP doesn’t crash and burn, our bullpen may….especially if Heilman or Sosa come in.

How bad is your pen when Schoenweiss is axtually one of your more effective guys?

    • cafuq says:

How bad is our hitting when castillo isnt getting bashed for his hitting

    • MetsRmilife says:

You think jumping a player from AA to the big leagues is a way to get this team on track? I am all for it in July when we have nothing left to play for but hitting .400 in AA and hitting competently (prob 8th in our lineup) are two VERY different things.

    • QueenOfQueens says:

Every time Beltran looks at a 3rd strike I get horrible flashbacks about the last game in 2006….ugh.

  262. cafuq says:

The mets are at best the third best team in the east. Philly comes from behind all the time and act like they want to win. The Braves just like to beat us all the time. The marlins always play us hard and have some decent players.

The mets need to bring up some young guys now. However, Willie is not the manager for that. Thats why i always liked Bobby V. He brought out the best in all the young kids, made the OK players overperform, and the good players did their thing. However, Willies gut tells him all the old guys will get going.

What team would want Heilman or Sosa? They are not tradeable. Either is Delgado, Castro, and all the other dead weight on this team. And the club cannot just eat all that salary.

We are stuck with this team. And no matter how many times Willie says last september does not matter, I feel watching this team that it does and most of them dont care.

    • darkstar73 says:

it’d be funny if we brought up all these kids you want to see and then the team would fall flat on their faces, and you’d be complaining about that too. Never happy, well unless we have a definite world series team, which a team should be every single year right? I mean, what the hell is going on? If you don’t look like a GREAT team in April, I really think you shouldn’t even play anymore games.

      • cafuq says:

How about a team that looks like they try. Thats all im asking for.

        • darkstar73 says:

a team will only look like it’s trying to the average fan unless it’s winning, if they’re losing, they’re “not trying” or “lifeless,” that’s how it always works.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Nonsense. 2005 was fun to watch, and nobody really gave them a realistic chance of winning anything. Longtime sports fans have been entertained by teams they knew were not going to win, and have been bored by teams who just steamrolled over everyone.

This is a team that might still actually win something this year, but they’re doing a crappy job with even the most basic of fundamentals along the way.

  263. jimyager says:

Look, it’s early. We have time to fix this and Delgado will come around , blah, blah, blah. Im sick of hearing that crap!! This is the last place 250 Nats here and we cant beat them? They look like the 1952 Yankees here tonight. So we won 5 in a row, lost 3, won 1 , lost 1 and our on our way to another loosing streak. What is wrong with this team? Delgado and Beltran blow, throw in Heilman and Show and off we go. My faith in this team is going fast. It;s early and it will turn around, right Willie? GAME OVER. We have a 3-0 leadover a last place team and we give up 9 runs to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is unacceptable. This team deserves to finish third the way they are playing. We need a change and we need it fast.

  264. NY Cuban says:

Lets see…our only win in the lsat 5 games is with Santana pitching against the worst team in the league…and we were down in the 6th to them. How much more can we take? When can we just fire Willie and move on? How many more times will we see Heilman and Sosa implode before he gets it…THEY SUCK!!! He didn’t learn from Mota and Schoe last year? He didn’t learn from the collapse last year? What a stubborn….AGHHH I can’t even type anymore…its pointless. Willie might not be the only problem, but he is definitely the most glaring one. And making the move sooner rather than later might be the way to go…we still have 80% of the season, someone can right this ship…but it won’t be willie…guaranteed!

  265. D-Day says:

GET WILLIE OUT OF THERE!!!! like i said before, willie is to laid back and that attitude reflects in the way this team is playing. i still think this team is talented and can compete but right now all this incosistency and uninspired play has to fall on the manager. hes doing nothing to light the fire unders these players and it shows in there weak play. like another poster said, the only ones producing are the guys who werent here last year! give it time though, the virus that is willie will get to them too! a change in attitude is badly needed, this team needs to watch some video of the 86 bunch! the could learn some things!!!!

    • NY Cuban says:

thats not the yankee way…pretty soon there will be no candy in the Mets clubhouse

    • therealsince86 says:

How did Willie make Heilman suck. You give him too much credit when we do poor and none when we win. It comes down to the players first and Heilman just is horrible right now as well as Delgado. Willie has done what he can with that by moving Delgado and Heilman down but they still bring us down.

      • NY Cuban says:

BECAUSE HE HAS OVERUSED HEILMAN…the very average reliever has been used more than any pitcher in the NL

      • gipper91375 says:

Cant cut the whole team. At least dumping Willie MAY change the vibe in the clubhouse. If the team continues to stink, then at least Omar would have lost his fallguy and we can ride his geriatric-loving tush out on the rails as well.

        • therealsince86 says:

I have no desire to get rid of Omar, however you know that I am on board with getting rid of Willie as long as it’s for a better fit. Those are not Hojo, Ken, Manny, or Bobby. I really don’t know who it should be. How about Carter? I have no idea how good of a manager he would be.

        • khmustache says:

wally bachman was a great minor league manager…how bout him?

        • therealsince86 says:

toooooooooooooooo much baggage. You should just let Barry Bonds be a player manager before you do that.

  266. therealsince86 says:

Trade Heilman, Sosa and a AA player for Morales.
Trade Endy to the O’s for Bradford (or some other team for a reliever)
That is step one. Hurry up and get that done before Heilman has no value left. (It may already be too late)

    • backinbusiness says:

Wow–Heilman cost an extra AA player in just one day. So sad. So true.

      • therealsince86 says:

yup, do you really think anyone wants our 6.00 and 7.00 ERA guys right now. You have to put some potential in there now.

        • backinbusiness says:

I’m worried that no one will want them…period. It’s not like we’re willing to add FMart.

        • therealsince86 says:

I know what you mean, the Angels were desperate for relievers and I am sure they would still see Heilman as valuable but enough to help get Morales, I don’t know anymore.

    • TheHammer says:

Why would the Orioles trade Bradford for Endy Chavez?

  267. khmustache says:

i put the rally cap on my dog…might be onto something here

  268. gomets6091 says:

I’ve been a Willie guy, but I’m really starting to think he’s gotta go. A small part of me almost wants to see them get torn apart by the Braves this weekend, Willie to get canned, and bring in someone (Bobby V please?) to fire this team up. I think the role of a manager is VASTLY overrated, but there IS some role, and Willie’s clearly not doing it. Bobby V. would have been awful for the ‘06 team, that thrived on Willie’s day-in-day-out nothing changes routine, but that team got old fast, and they need an injection of new life, which is something a guy like Bobby V and his inane lineup changes can provide.

by the way, nice to see Marlon finally get a hit

    • NY Cuban says:

I’m on that bandwagon. Anything to get Willie out of here!

    • therealsince86 says:

Come on, drop the Bobby V stuff. He was an average manager and he can’t even get a job in the MLB. Not the Royals, Rays, Marlins, Nationals or Mets. There has to be a reason for that. Why people forget that the players quit on Bobby V his last season too and then he started to act like an ass and try and get all the attention on himself.
I agree that it may be time for Willie to go but not for Acta or Valentin.

      • NY Cuban says:

Wow…even you are starting to convert….I don’t need Bobby V. I want to say HoJo, but I don’t know if that will shake things up enough. Who is available?

        • therealsince86 says:

I have never been a Willie supporter. I don’t think he is good or bad. He has done a good job while he has been here, however, the team needs a shake up and the manager is the easiest one to shake. I would make that trade I suggested to get Heilman and Sosa off the team and Morales here and just release Delgado. If that does not shake up the team nothing will.
At least if we get rid of Willie for the right guy and they still struggle we will know where the problem is. You have to start somewhere.

        • gomets6091 says:

of course if we fire Willie, and it turns out it was the players, than Omar gets fired, and then we might be stuck with a dope in the dugout and a GM who will trade away Fernando Martinez for Carl Pavano…

      • gomets6091 says:

I’ll admit, 99% of the reason I want Bobby V. is b/c I was reading a book about Mets history at the bookstore today, and I read the sections about ‘99-’01 and it brought back some great memories. If you could go back over the past 9 months and see most of my posts, you’d see I argued against people who suggested Bobby V., but one thing I like about him for this team, as I mentioned, is he’s not afraid to experiment, and this team needs some serious experimentation.

That said, who would you like to see if the Mets go another direction? I don’t want HoJo b/c he’s already on this coaching staff, and I would like to go outside. I absolutely don’t want to see a retread coach (except, of course, for Bobby V). Maybe someone like Backman?

        • therealsince86 says:

Like I said no Backman, he has too much already against him. What do we know about Carter, he is firey and most want a return to 86 style of play.

  269. NY Cuban says:

I think SNY puts on the Guiseppe Franco commercials cuz they knew that by the all-star break everyone would be losing their hair watching this team.

  270. domosnacks5 says:

If Isiah kept his job throughout this entire season, I’m 100% confident that we’ll see Willie in a Mets’ uniform all year as well.

    • gomets6091 says:

well, the Dolan’s don’t own the Mets (THANK GOD) so you never know. I think if this team is hovering around .500 at the All-Star Break, we might see a change.

    • gipper91375 says:

And, the over/under date on Isiah-esque deafening “Fire Willie!” chans at Shea is now May 27th.

      I’m taking the under.

  271. washtiger says:

OMG — 2 HR’s in one game and Reyes breaks the 0 for 9!

  272. gomets6091 says:

if you want to look at the bright side:

    at least he swung…

  273. cafuq says:

At least he swung at the pitch

  274. khmustache says:

how much did the wilpon’s pay for that strikeout?

  275. casey s. says:

it’s back to low expectations for me. i no longer expect this team to be a championship-caliber team. sorry. .500 team is what it is. and, i’m not just saying it, it is actually true. now, for about five months.

  276. khmustache says:

    .500 ball….dammit

  277. D-Day says:

i swear this site is more of a support group for broken hearted fans than anything else. good to know other people are as frustrated as me! thanks for the support all and good night.

  278. NY Cuban says:

Just one thing before we all move to the post-game thread…WE JUST GOT WHIPPED BY THE NATIONALS AND A ROOKIE PITCHER…sure its the players that need to be held accountable, but Willie needs to go. Leyland ripped into his guys and low and behold they woke up. They aren’t perfect yet, but at least there was a change in attitude. Not even last year’s collapse changed the atttitude in that clubhouse. The only ones that are somewhat decent are the guys who werent here last year…doesnt anyone else see this?

“History repeats itself, first as tragedy, then as farce”…
    Welcome to the Farce, gentlemen!

  279. atrain311 says:

I wonder how much Johan is regretting coming to the Mets.

  280. metsforever says:

Willie has to go. Maybe Fred and Jeff can see that. Will all these losses get them the message? Omar, you’re next. I can’t help but put it on Omar for this AARP gathering. I feel horrible for Santana, and all Mets fans. We are going to see a great pitcher waste at least 4 years of his career on a rebuilding effort. He may have been better off in Minnesota

    • therealsince86 says:

Stop with the rebuilding crap, who is rebuilding. Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Church, Schneider, Santana, Maine, Smith, Castillo, and Wagner are going nowhere.
Delgado, Alou, Pedro, Elduque are all role players at this point and will free up all kinds of space and money to bring new players in that have to contribute more than they are currently.

      • darkstar73 says:

Thank you therealsince86 for being real. It’s times like this I’m thankful there’s other fans like you.

      • metsforever says:

They are rebuilding, they just don’t know it yet. Reyes needs a shrink. Wright is going to go crazy with the bums on this team. Beltran was never all that great to begin with, he belongs on a KC or Tampa type team where there is no pressure. Castillo is lucky he can hit the ball out of the infield and Church and Shneider are OK. To top it off, there is not farm system and the have not teams have more than ever and sign their own guys. This could be a long few years.

        • therealsince86 says:

Just stop. Go vent into a pillow or something. Your comments are making you look ridiculous. We all want some changes but to dismiss Reyes, Wright and Beltran is just plain stupid.

    • darkstar73 says:

i can’t even believe people are talking rebuilding already, this is crazy, Mets fans literally are crazy, its not even funny. 5 games ago people are on the up and up, and now, we’re in rebuilding mode…

      • therealsince86 says:

I am sure they are just frustrated and want to quit. Their point is this is obviously not working so let’s just start over. But the point is that we don’t have to. He have the pieces but the glue that holds them together is old and starting not to stick anymore.

        • rd says:

Only the Mets lose 10-5 to the Nationals…. What a DISGRACE!!!!!!

        • therealsince86 says:

Is that worse than the Braves losing 6-0 to them on Tuesday night?

        • rd says:

You are gonna defend this team after this loss? Are you related to one of the players? Perhaps CD?

        • darkstar73 says:

how could you ever expect to win every single game against the Nationals this year? You’re going to lose games, even to the worst teams, sorry to break it to you. It didn’t look pretty, but it doesn’t always.

        • Mr.Spock says:

If they struggle to win a game to the Nationals, i can only imagine the # of games they are going to win against good teams…… barely any.

  281. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

look on the bright side. it will easier to get tickets at Citi Field next year

  282. joon8 says:

They need to put Wille on notice TODAY….maybe then he’ll start to feel a sense of urgency. He acts like he’s managing a dynasty. Nobody on this team (besides Pedro who’s hurt) has won anything. He should start demanding results instead of expecting it. Hold the players accountable. If you can’t then step aside.

  283. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

    FIRE WILLIE. FIRE WILLIE

    • rockets212 says:

shut up its not willies fault at least not enough to fire him the GM put the players together and the players play the manager is always blamed when they shouldn’t.

We got a good team but no heart and no will to win. The players need to get together and do something because if they dont it’ll be an entire year of september 07 and i dont like that at all

      • therealsince86 says:

You are right, it is not Willie’s fault (entirely) HOWEVER, something has to change and get the negative vibe away from the team and the fans. You have to move Sosa, Heilman, Delgado and Willie if you can find alternatives. At this point if the right replacement can be had then too bad for Willie. I feel sorry for him because I feel for the most part it’s on the players but them are the breaks for a big league manager. It won’t be his last job and he will be fine somewhere else, maybe he will rejoin one of the Joe’s.

    • NY Cuban says:

      Fi-RE WIL-LIE!!! FI-RE WIL-LIE!!!

  284. backinbusiness says:

The turning point of the game was Casanova lollygagging over to FIRST on a huge hit off the wall. Just a complete lack of effort from an over the hill hack player. That’s how you respond to a newly tied game, knowing that Aaron Heilman and Jorge Sosa are warming up? Had he been on second he would have been safe at third w/the pitcher/catcher/bunt bobble. Just infuriating.

Gustavo Molina should play for Casanova until further notice, and Marlon Anderson should start for Delgado tomorrow.

  285. NY Cuban says:

Do you think we have grounds for a lawsuit against the Mets for mental anguish? How about forcing us to drink heavily every night?

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I think there might be grounds for a suit.

They’re overloading us with ads from Guiseppe Franco and the NY Smokers Quit Line.

They know this team is driving people to smoke and rip the hairs out of their head.

There’s a bigtime conspiracy going on here!

  286. AlreadyMissShea says:

Almost time for Willie to tell us we didn’t see what we thought we just saw.

  287. SantanaCYYOung says:

where are all the people that wanted to keep willie back in october? i thought there was a poll that said that 60% of the fans wanted him back…how was that possible? the ONLY way willie was brought back was because he had two years left on the contract!! i said it back then and i’ve been saying it ever since, willie should have been let go after the collapse.

heilman is going to turn it around
sosa is not, try and get something for him – do the same for the show
where was joe smith to pitch in the 6th?

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Willie was brought back because of the money AND also because keeping him for another year allows Omar Teflonaya to have a ton of responsibility to continue to slide right off of his own shoulders.

  288. AlreadyMissShea says:

    LOL!

“We struggled a little bit like this last year down the stretch as you know.”

    I can’t find the words right now…

  289. AlreadyMissShea says:

Willie has to be the most boring “leader” in all of pro sports. Maybe in all sports period.

    • QueenOfQueens says:

Its funny that comment just made me think of all the comments about Eli this past year. Never shows ups or downs and never seems affected by anything. Now if only he could have the same results as Eli this year………

      • gomets6091 says:

maybe if Delgado started sacking the opposing teams batters before they could get comfortable…

  290. QueenOfQueens says:

Cant wait to hear what Heilman has to say………….this ought to be good.

  291. istillhatemdonaldgrant says:

I know this will drive the Hispani-phobes nuts, but Felipe Alou should be the next manager, and soon. He’s an excellent manager and the best one available right now. He will get Reyes, Beltran and maybe Delgado going, and not just because he’s Hispanic — but because he’s smart and a good leader. And unlike Willy he’s fight for his players.

Willie was too arrogant to get any managerial experience — he just sat next to Joe Torre and waited to be coronated. Too bad the Mets were dumb enough to hire him. He messed up a double switch in his first game — has he really improved since then? I liked HoJo as a player, but he’s not exactly a Mensa candidate. Wally Backman’s got too much baggage. Maybe the Mets should give him a break and hire him for a minor league job, but not the Mets job. I liked Carter too, but his strength as a player was his bat — he was not exactly beloved as a teammate or person.

If we don’t get rid of Willy, we’re likely to tread water the rest of the way, which means Omar’s job is in trouble too. That’s Willy has maybe 20 or 30 games to show the Mets are contenders — after that he’s gone.
