Willie was too arrogant to get any managerial experience — he just sat next to Joe Torre and waited to be coronated. Too bad the Mets were dumb enough to hire him. He messed up a double switch in his first game — has he really improved since then? I liked HoJo as a player, but he’s not exactly a Mensa candidate. Wally Backman’s got too much baggage. Maybe the Mets should give him a break and hire him for a minor league job, but not the Mets job. I liked Carter too, but his strength as a player was his bat — he was not exactly beloved as a teammate or person.

If we don’t get rid of Willy, we’re likely to tread water the rest of the way, which means Omar’s job is in trouble too. That’s Willy has maybe 20 or 30 games to show the Mets are contenders — after that he’s gone.
