Also, the funny thing is–with baseball, the opposite is often true. Darling says you have to hold a ball like an egg–loose. If you grip the ball too tight and throw the ball too hard, you lose movement.

Batters too–when you press, you don’t stay back to wait for the ball, get out and front, and overzealously swing at bad pitches.

I’m a little tired of the “lifeless” argument–as if someone isn’t trying hard enough. It’s not football, where you need to be amped up and souped up on adrenaline in order to perform. If Mets’ batters don’t hit one game, the Mets’ offense appears “lifeless”, and it’s a lazy but false assumption to then call the players lifeless.

Watching the game, you see players upset when they strikeout, fist pumps on inning ending plays, pitchers pointing to fielders when they make a nice play. It’s pretty clear that they’re playing with intensity.

I’m sure this has been covered before elsewhere – but some of these lifeless games we’ve played make me wonder: who are our real leaders?

It’s great to see DWright on camera taking responsibility and encouraging to hear similar sounds from Beltran and a few others. But does anyone know if any of these guys ever actually stand-up in the locker room and say “enough – let’s get rolling already”?

I guess there’s the occasional players-only meeting (hopefully not needed very often), but I can’t imagine who is standing up in there and actually leading behind the scenes.
