The sad thing is that if Delgado could adjust to not being the big no.4 or 5 guy and to just make contact and work a little harder on his defense, nobody would mind letting him ride out the rest of his contract. Shawn Green was able to do it last year. True, Delgado is the highest paid player on the team (per season), but given his baffling inconsistency over the past two seasons, I'd settle for a season like Green had last year where he stayed focused and consistently put the ball into play, even if he doesn't rake up gawdy RBI and HR numbers.

I was hoping that Delgado would knock Hernandez out right there on the field. It could have been a way for Delgado to get his blood boiling and maybe get himself going. Either way, it helps the Mets because either Delgado is suspended (thus not destroying rallies) or he gets amped and starts hitting.

(Of course, if Hernandez survives the beating, he would be so biased against the mets that they couldn't possible allow him to call Mets games in the future...a third win)

I think that Angel Hernandez is a Cuban American. His dislike for Delgado might run deeper than just something that happened on the baseball field. We are all familiar with Delgado's "politics" and the views of his father. Maybe Angel Hernandez has something against him because of that. I personally don't agree with Delgado's politics, but I root for him. For an umpire to talk smack to him like that is just wrong.

It's a wonder Angel Hernandez can keep his job. The incompetence alone woul djustify firing him, but he is a total reactionary a-hole. Say what you want about Delgado, but he has always carried himself with class. You really have to be wired wrong to go after Delgado like that. I hope the Mets file a formal complaint.

I wasn't going crazy about the deal, but I think that most people's problem with it was that Milledge could have gotten more in return. But then none of us are GMs.

I still think Milledge is going to be good.

That's the thing. Nady has experience playing 1st base. He would probably play in 75% of the games. Possibly our starting LF next year.

well i only noticed him writing stuff in it when he was successful (about 30% of the time at that point). i guess when it's not happening that often (19% of the time), we don't notice it as much.

I did see Angel H jawing at Delgado, and then heard Darling discuss past run-ins that the Mets had with Angel H (none of them pretty, Angel H sounds like an a-hole).

I asked Matt to mention this but as they usually do they skip my suggestions, glad that "Pick Me Up" cover this because I think its a worth while story.

The part I liked is that Delgado, although being jawed at by Angel H, kept his cool (so as not to get tossed), and then later complained to the crew chief about the incident. I would have loved to hear what Delgado's thoughts were on the indicdent.

Anyway, goes to show you that umps can dictate a game and players need to be careful. Not sure why MLB has not taken care of this guy, after doing some googles on him, he is conistently ranked on the bottom for umps.

Is the outfield really a questionable position? I like Nady...but I would set my sights on other weaker positions. Wouldn't you think the position(s) in question are catching and first base?

As you mentioned, the idea of trading Pagan, Carp and Niese is tempting, but I wouldn't pull the trigger either.
