According to Adam Rubin in the Daily News, Mets RHP Claudio Vargas is expected to join Triple-A New Orleans today.
Vargas had spent the last week or so working out in extended 
spring training in St. Lucie.
Also, Rubin returns with his outstanding minor-league report, at his blog for the Daily News, during which he recaps who is hot and who is not in the team’s farm system, while speaking with B’Mets 1B Mike Carp, who says: “This year I wanted to prove to the Mets last year was a fluke.”
In 24 games in Double-A, Carp is hitting .376 with six HR, seven doubles and 20 RBI, though he has only one hit (a home run) in his last 16 at bats.

This is great to see, especially at 1B. His numbers and being a 9th round draft pick suggest that he is not a top prospect, but hopefully he can prove that this is not just a hot streak.
Between him and Nick Evans–our system might be suddenly deep at 1B. And who knows, we have a possible replacement for Delago at midseason and next season. If we don’t have to go get a 1B, that would save a ton of money for other signings.
I agree. Between him, Evans, even Murphy or Duda, one of them should take over the reigns. They could save a ton of money and get a lot younger which would be nice to see.
I’m a big believer in promoting from within, and I’d like them to think about what they are going to do as far as Evans and Murphy with Wright staying at 3rd for a very long time and F-Mart going to obviously be in the outfield, and Church, well, being the biggest pleasant surprise this year…so what to do…?
Claudio Vargas just finished pitching for the St. Lucie Mets today. He went 5 and fared well enough against inferior players.
