Who cares?? I really don't care if Carlos Delgado waves his hand to the crowd. I found it much more relevant that he looked good at the plate. To me the most important issue of the day was John Smoltz looking completely shot. If Smoltz is not himself the Braves have no shot. I can realistically see the Mets playing the Phillies in the NLCS because I don't believe in the bullpens of the Diamondbacks and Cubs.

I happen to agree with Mike and the Mad Dog regarding the bahavoir of Mets fans this year which has been embarassing but did anyone hear the following comment by the Mad Dog today, "The Mets have alot of sensative latin players." Is that not a racist comment? Mike and the Mad Dog get a complete pass for the idiotic things they say especially idiotic racial things. For example before the Jackie Robinson Day Mike basically said that black kids don't have the attention span to play baseball, whites are not good enough athletes to play football and basketball, and latins were too short to play any other sport besides baseball and soccer.

fans boo a guy and then want him out for a curtain call? why, so they can tell a guy that now that he's done something, he deserves their adoration? how would you like it if your boss gave you crap all day for doing a lousy job and then, when you finally got something right, called the whole company over to your office for a standing ovation and asked you to step out and accept the applause because you FINALLY did something right?

Its just because the average Mets fan probably takes Cerrone's opinion more seriously than any DNL or SNY writer. Those guys can eat the leftover scraps at the Bronx Zoo any day if you ask me. I'll take good ol' fashion discussion fan-to-fan any day. Even if the site has gotten a bit of a corporate makeover, the tone is still the same and the guys here have their finger on the pulse of the team and the fans WAY better than the traditional media.

booing your own players is stupid... i go to about 30 games a year and never do it... but booing egregious snubs to the fans qualifies for jeers, and this is very close to it... walking to the top step and waving when the fans are saluting you is not such a hard thing for such a big "classy" guy as delgado... and if he's waiting for #500 to do his next wave to the fans, he probably won't have to worry about it the way he's going.

No, it really doesn't bother me in the slightest...I wouldn't care one way or the other if Matt was asked to remove it -- it is his site and his living, so who am I to judge his decisions. I do not, however, think it is unreasonable to ask that the situation be addressed (addressed is different than, say, re-linked or remedied) given that Matt has written that SNY and the Mets do not have any editorial input when it comes to content. If they really do, fine; if they don't, even better...but it's still fair to ask, and I think we should know. As a loyal reader and a donor to Metsblog, this sort of small potatoes won't bug me all that much, but we should still know what we're reading and who is controlling it. That's all.

Exactly. Booing Delgado is stupid. Unless he turns things around radically, all signs point to the conclusion that he is, at this point in his career, simply a valueless baseball player.

It's not Delgado's fault that he sucks right now, and there is nothing hie can do to keep from sucking. To boo him is to boo a bad player simply because he is bad, which is pointless and nasty. It's like taunting a retarded child simply because he is retarded, or a fat kid because he is fat. He should be cheered when he outperforms his ability as he did on Sunday and treated cordially when his performance is in line with his lack of skill. Fans should also acknowledge that he has been a superior player throughout his career and give him his due respect. We are watching a formerly excellent player at the twilight of his career. After his contract is up, he will never again have a job in Major League baseball. That is a bitter enough pill to swallow without fans constantly trashing him.

Of course, that's also an effect of the mercenary system. If Delgado had stayed with on team for his entire career, I'm guessing that his fans would be more disposed to pay tribute to him for his contribution to the team throughout his career. They would show their appreciation for him while at the same time acknowledging that his time has come. (The other way that can happen is if his performance is so outstanding that the fans acknowledge it even as he declines...think Mike Piazza.) But when you're a hired gun, the fan in more inclined to say "we're not paying you $16 million to suck loser!

If he dogs it on the field, or displays indifference or unprofessionalism, that's a different story

Game, set, and match. It's not like SNY is a YES propaganda organ.

Of course, this thread is also filled with M&MD complaints, knowing what their standard fare is.
