Buzz: Mets might have interest in Moeller
By Matthew Cerrone - Apr 29, 2008 1:54 pm

In the New York Post, George King writes, ‘There is talk the Mets might be interested in’ C Chad Moeller, who was designated for assignment by the Yankees last Friday.

talk among whom, though…and, if they ‘might be,’ doesn’t that inherently suggest that they might not be…

Do you watch the hills also?

    • I deleted that part of the post. Sorry. The answer to your question is yes. I’m a total sucker for bad teen dramas. Sad, but true.

What else do you watch in your spare time Matt? LOL. Do you enjoy my commercials? LOL

          Giuseppe,

I have a question. Do you own anything about your product?

        • MacD81 says:

I hear he doesn’t own anything about it, but that might just be a rumor.

        • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

          Guiseppe,

How much does your product cost on TV? How about at your Beverly Hills salon?

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Guiseppe, can I use your product as a body wash instead of a daily shower regiment? Who has time for that nonsense?

      • mrose says:

I watch “The Soup” on E! make fun of that show every week with my girlfriend….

        • giuseppe franco_procede says:

Just use it once every 90 days. If it worked for Busey…then it can work for you!

I don’t own the company…nor do I know a thing about the product. All I can say is it WORKS!

And yes you can get this product in my shop for $500. Pick your poison. LOL.

        • MacD81 says:

So, I’d use the product if I wanted to start looking my best…right nowwww?

        • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

Will it work for the criminal in the Old Spice Hair and Body Wash commercials?

        • giuseppe franco_procede says:

Damn criminal. LOL. I love that commercial.

  2. Prismo says:

I don’t want any Yankee rejects on my team!

    • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

We have one as our manager :-)

      • giuseppe franco_procede says:

Don’t forget the Mets have an injured pitcher who claims to be in his 30’s. LOL

        • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

Who will have more starts this year, El Duque, Pedro, or Alou?

        • Another Matt says:

Alou’s the only position player…. although Pedro’s 1 might yet prove to be enough to claim that title. Argh!

I have no expectation of ever seeing El Duque on the mound again. I still hold out hope for Alou putting in a half-season, and Petey maybe 20 starts

        • iamatwork says:

          Pedro: 10.

  3. MacD81 says:

So, if true, does this mean they are concerned that Castro is not going to be ready any time soon?

I salute the only real and interesting comment posted so far…(a) I think King is just speculating. There’s absolutely no indication that Moeller will perform any better than Casanova or Molina, and quite frankly, being released by a team that is currently in need of a catcher kind of means that you’re no good. But (b) the Mets are expecting Schneider back any moment now, and with 2 back ups already in place (without even counting Castro), there does not seem to be any real need for another catcher, unless he has a big “upside”. In either case, I suspect this rumor has as much validity as Piazza to the Yankees…

  4. backinbusiness says:

The Yankee situation at C is even worse than ours. If they DFA’ed him, there’s probably a good reason.

    • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

Sometimes you make a move like that to catch lightning in a bottle. Signing Moeller would be more like passing gas in a bottle.

    • Another Matt says:

To be fair, they DFA’d him before Posada went down. However, if he’s still available after Posada’s injury, that’d be a big red flag.

If we can get Schneider & Castro back to health, I don’t see any need to worry about our catching corps with ‘Nova, Molina and Manriquez all being serviceable backups (although Manriquez’ bat is uncharacteristically cold so far in the minors)

      • iamatwork says:

Yeah but you can un-DFA a guy when there’s an injury and they just… didn’t. Maybe they should bring up Jesus Flores… wait… crap.

  5. VelvetFoot says:

I imagine it doesn’t mean much, but I just saw that Casanova is batting .333 in 30 at bats-not too bad.

    • Another Matt says:

I believe the relevant phrase is “April numbers”. He’s 7/15 in the last 4 games he played after starting out 3/15 in his first 4.

His average can be expected to drop significantly from there, but he has always had some pop. Not much of an arm (thrown out only 82 of 301 runners), but still a serviceable 3rd catcher.

Nice that he’s produced while the guys in front of him are down.
