Health: Alou is OK
By Matthew Cerrone - Apr 29, 2008 5:06 pm

Moises Alou told reporters before today’s game that he does not have a fracture in his ankle.

He will work out with the team today, and hopes to be activated this weekend in Arizona.

I’ll believe it when I see it!

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

hahahaaha, i thought the same exact thing!

why was he limping then as they said he had.

  2. Danny1986 says:

These are the things I wish Vegas would have betting lines for.

    • zer09 says:

I’m sure you’ll find a taker if you check the websites lol

    • bigchart333 says:

im going to vegas in 2 days, i’ll check and get back to u!

      • MetsFanInVegas says:

yeaahh Vegas..what are you coming out here to do?

        • kendychavez says:

yes, why would you go to vegas? what is in las vegas that might entice a person to travel across the country? some sort of church picnic, perhaps?

and yeah. alou needs to hurry back so he quickly go on the DL again so he can come back to help us briefly in september

  3. sheaheykid says:

Good. I’m as confident as the rest of you that Alou will be here for an extended amount of time, but I’ll take every phenomenal at bat I can. Yes, Alou does not waste at bats. Take heed, young Jose.

  4. DontShakeAlousHand says:

How do you go from possible broken ankle to being activated this weekend, when your name is Alou no less?

  5. tfc3rid says:

Over/Under on when Alou returns to the DL?

    • DWmancrush says:

      35 minutes

    • mex84 says:

      I’ll bite, two weeks?

      • Raditz says:

Two weeks sounds resonable. At least enough starts to give us hope that Beltran will get protected. 40 at bats or one sliding catch whatever comes first.

      • rockets212 says:

i actually think itll take more than 2 weeks more like 2 months but itll happen

    • sheaheykid says:

Second at bat is when it will be official. During his first as bat, he will rip a ball just foul past the diving third baseman, and jolt out of the box. Cohen will inevitably say, “and it definately appears as though Alou may have *tweaked* something there Ronnie.” He will the proceed to fly out to left-center. The next at bat he will be grimacing and unable to get any good hacks in, after which he will sit down.

      Post game:

“I don’t know what happened exactly, it may have been this morning when I pushed the gas pedal a bit too aggresively”

  6. Whew! As much as I think bringing Alou back was a mistake, I’m glad to see him return to the Mets. They need some more thump in the lineup. However, they need to treat him gingerly and carefully by giving him time off every week. Don’t play him more than 4-5 days in a row, even if that. Or else he’ll just break again.

They probably just need to wait till Schneider comes back before sending Molina back down to make room for Alou.

    • jay15 says:

Don’t play him more than 4-5 games in a row? If only was that simple. He just needs to play completely wrapped in bubble wrap. $20 bucks at Staples can get you enough bubble wrap to last for two days.

Maybe Alou can put in $20 from his contract for everyday that he misses to off set the bubble wrap cost

  7. 3 weeks and 5 days

  8. Chris Jelic says:

Maybe just activated in the sense that he puts on a uniform and pees on his hands. I don’t expect to see him taking the field or stepping to the plate.

    • zer09 says:

If he can’t play he certainly won’t be activated. Omar and Willie might mismanage at times but they won’t play with a man down – why should they? He’ll be activated the day he can at least pinch hit, not sooner.

    • KGrules says:

the pees on his hand comment is classic…good stuff!

  9. metsfan119 says:

I still maintain he doesn’t face a single major league pitch this season

  10. metphan says:

I still say sign Bonds and have him split time with Alou in left and DH against the AL teams. Plus, we know that Alou will go on the DL later in the season.

Have Bonds hit 4th, Beltran 5th and Delgado 6th. Makes perfect sense.

    • Raditz says:

MetsBlog is hardcore. We are advocating Bonds the human press swarm. By the way I agree we should sign bonds to protect Beltran and bat him 5th.

      • hot stove chef says:

I think we should sign bonds so we can shoot him into space to be with his ball

    • zer09 says:

How does that make sense? You’re protecting Beltran with who?

      • Raditz says:

        With the hypothetical Bonds.

      • metphan says:

I’d go Bonds/Beltran/Delgado only to split up the lefties.

        Beltran/Alou/Delgado when Alou plays.

Bonds/Beltran/Delgado/Alou in AL parks. Now that’s just beastly.

        • zer09 says:

It makes more sense with Alou behind Delgado, otherwise I don’t buy it. In either case, too many wheelchairs rolling between the bases, these guys will either walk, single, or hr…there would be no sustainable rallies…

        • Raditz says:

I advocate in that case moving Delgado back to 7th and hit Alou 6th. This would move Alou to left field. Crazy, but we will never sign Bonds. He has gone the way of the BlackSox.

        • batsinthepelfrey says:

beastly? maybe in 2002. 2008, not so much

        • mex84 says:

Yeah, but its not 2006 anymore.

        • mex84 says:

Sorry, batsinthepelfrey beat me to the punch. No need to pour salt on the wound.

        • jamie says:

I’d do Wright/Bonds/Beltran/Church/Del/Scneider, and put Alou between church and scneid in AL parks.

        • zer09 says:

There’s Delgado between Church and Schneider, you need to clarify. And you’re batting 3 lefties in a row at the bottom of the order. Willie won’t do that.

        • metphan says:

The thing about the old guys would only happen in AL parks if everyone is healthy…. otherwise you only have Alou or Bonds, but not both.

        • jamie says:

yes, yes, betw church and del, not schneid. Who cares what willie would do, this is all in fun and hypothetical. Not like this is ever likely to happen at all, anyway.

  11. SantanaCYYOung says:

i actually think he’ll play this weekend…isn’t it the old timers game?

  12. TurkWendell9999 says:

So far today there have been recommendations to pick up Bonds, Piazza, and Shawn Green.

While we’re at it lets get John Franco involved to give heilman a rest some days. Plus, Benny Agbayani just got divorced so he’s not locked down in Hawaii anymore and is available.

  13. Tim says:

That was Matty Alou limping into the hospital this morning.

  14. sjbarron1 says:

    THANK GOD

  15. jcervone7 says:

Maybe he should start peeing on his ankle?

  16. Nate W. says:

what bizarre injury’s to Schneider and Alou. Now you see them, now you dont. I’ll believe their returns when I see them live and in colour…

  17. the_other_matt says:

On the way to his car Alou bumped his head on a pipe, tripped onto a dolly, rolled down the walkway, down a flight of stairs, out to the Citi Filed construction site, into a pile of bricks, and fractured his foot.

  18. Tim says:

Schneider, while moving out of the way, pulled a hammy. On his way down grabbed El Duque’s right wrist which strained ElDuque’s elbow.
