I think he only came out with that statement to save face after it was clear that he wasn't gonna be invited to any spring training camps. I agree, he was an asset and would be a good role player in this case, with minimal disruption to the team since they know him already and far less $$$ than Bonds and no cost in prospects.

And protecting Beltran is again Delgado. Now you put a slow high OBP guy in front of Beltran with no protection...

My logic is not foolish. Nady is a .322 career hitter against lefties and bats .365 in his team's wins for his career. That's what I define a person who can flat out hit. And this year, he's obviously hitting his prime, so if there was a time to pick him up it is now. To think that the tandem of Pagan and Chavez, let alone Pagan alone (a career .236 hitter against LHP) will have anywhere near an impact on the lineup as he is quite ridiculous and totally dumbfounded.

The justification that we got for trading Milledge was not "get-rid-of-a-talented-but-mentally-deficient proposition" but "address-needs-that-the-team-has-right-now" - which was RF and C and the team did that for 2008.

While my logic at times may be lacking, your is simply none-existent.

what's the difference between diving and missing the catch vs. letting it fall in? either way it's a hit. Besides, the more Alou dives, the more likely he is to break something else.

no, the wins expected include the offsetting defense (which is not much worse than Alou's, while his bat is better). As for his attitude, I think its potential effect is overrated. Of course I don't know that for sure, but neither can one be sure the other way. Like I said elsewhere, there's always some sort of controversy brewing here in NY, and it's usually something ridiculous. So let's give everyone a big fat target, and win more games to boot! C'mon, it'll be fun!

Finally, some positive news.

I thought I heard yesterday that he thought he could play with it but the Mets insisted he return to NY for the MRI. Maybe he never thought it was a big deal.

I think he has a big trickle-down effect on the lineup - assuming he can stay in it.

Why can't Pagan be included - if the Mets gave up one of the three AA guys and Pagan - 1) shouldn't that get it done (assume Pitt doesn't want a pitcher) and 2) wouldn't the mets certainly be better with Nady than pagan manning LF on a regular basis - if Alou comes back (a big if) Nady gets ABs at LF, RF and IB and becomes an everydayer at IB or LF next year. I think that deal would make a ton of sense from the Mets side.

Oh come on now.

I can "somewhat" understand if they trade someone away (Wright, Reyes). But to root for another team because they ADD a player. If that is the case I don't think you are a true Met fan.
