Anyone else think Bay would be a great addition to the team besides me? I know he hasn't lived up to his expectations but that's partly why he's on the block right? We could potentialy get a diamond in the rough here.

Not to mention he's young and under contract. I'm not sure that Heilman would be enough but we could package Heilman and ? for him.

We could potentially replace our LF and get someone who's equivelent to Delgado's power (30/35+ HRs). Thoughts?

Agreed Zen. Can we stop with the short sightedness and short-term memory. Heilman is a solid setup man in his prime who is going through a slump. And, he wants to start and yet his is being a good teammate and accepting his role.

Why he is treated like a bum is beyond me. He's a great asset to the pen and there's no reason not to think he'll return to form as a reliable 7-8th inning guy.

I hated it, I thought we could've gotten more in a market that was CF-deficient. Reason # 219 I'm not a gm.

That one really has got to die. Alou is not going to play 1B. Everyone gets on Delgado defensively but at least he has played the posiiton.

I would guess that they would want younger players that they can rebuild around. Otherwise, why trade Nady. Also, an above-average everyday player is worth more than an above-average reliever, so it would definitely require more from the Mets. Unless the Pirates think there's a chance they can turn him into in a starter.

And, my worry is that the Pirates would undervalue him, weighting too much his recent struggles, and not weighting enough his recent past success.

Figueroa's history in middle relief is not really any better (3.61; compare Sosa (4.85); Vargas (4.82)), and yet every commenter above (incl. me, possibly)seems to think Figgy belongs there when Pedro returns.

Middle relievers are fickle. It's just the nature of things. I haven't given up on Heilman, I just hardly see him as untouchable.
