Health: Castro and his Injured Leg
By Matthew Cerrone - Apr 30, 2008 10:17 pm

During a minor-league rehab game for St. Lucie tonight, Ramon Castro left after the fourth inning with what was described as ‘an injured leg.’

Castro had been 2 for 2 with two RBI before leaving the game.

According to Bill, a truster reader of MetsBlog, Castro called the team’s trainer out during the fourth inning, “and they slowly left the field together.”

Man, what a waste of the greatest graphic you could possibly find for a post about Ramon Castro. Get well soon Ramon, well miss you.

  2. mhaims says:

what a shame. for someone with pretty decent skill as a catcher , he always seems to be injured. I dont get why some players (Castro) just always seem to take so long to get healthy , and are always hurt. Once he gets hurt , it takes so long to recover. go mets

The injury bug has been the theme for this team since spring training. Sadly, the team has let this team overtake them psychologically! It’s sad!

have you seen the size of this guys head and jaw? hate to say it but would not be surpised in the least if we fould out he was on the juice. his body is breaking down constantly and he is carrying way too much weight. not sure why omar signed him to a two year deal.

    • dontstopbelieving says:

I don’t know if it’s the juice as much as it is the fat…he’s a big guy and he plays a very taxing position. I’m not at all surprised that his body can’t handle it. It’s too bad because he’s a very good hitter when healthy. Maybe at some point he’ll DH in the AL.

    • ravi3 says:

Your argument has some validity regarding Castro and steriods. However, the thing is he had never in his career been able to stay on the field consistently. If he had been juicing, he would have been on the field much more, early in his career

Somebody get Piazza a prescription to HGH . We need the ole Mike bac to come save the day.A lil bit of juice One good season and your in the Hll Mike Load up we need you..

In all seriosness Im happy with the job Brian S is doing and will be happy when he’s bac. I know we mets fans tend to overreact to everything. As of now Castro is our bacup catcher and although it would be great to have him, not need to fret..Lets just hope that he comes bac sometime this season and can be productive

  5. xmulderx says:

Oh Man that graphic of vader potato head is outstanding. Great Job with that!! now if only Castro had spare parts like mr. potato head he could heal himself and get on the field.

  6. ness589 says:

Didn’t like that he was re-signed. Still don’t like it.

  7. Jova1931 says:

Great day for the Mets. What’s up with the Castronator? He’s always hurt. I’d check the genes to see if there’s any relation to Alou.

  8. Is that tipster’s real last name actually Metsiac? Because if it is that is awesome.

  9. Two-By-Four says:

Is Castro related to Carl Pavano? :)

  10. dykstraw says:

we would totally win the DL world series

    • da burg's greatest says:

i dunno, the yankees have a pretty decent DL team going…so do the braves. (if you count larry jones too) i think ultimately our DL pitching would win it out for us though.

it would be an interesting thing to do though, have all players who were on the dl play in rehab games with each other.

  11. yubbajr says:

Anyone else think the Mets need to put some of these guys out to pasture?

    • Jova1931 says:

lol All I know is that we have some really big holes to fill next year and in the coming years (Pedro, if he isn’t re-signed, Perez, if he isn’t re-signed and I don’t think the Mets will be able to with what he will command on the open market, Left Field, First Base). I’m hoping some of these kids in the minors have been underrated and can have some moderate success at the major league level (Mike Carp, Fernando Martinez, etc.)

      • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

I think we are hoping to fill positions from within the organization, which is a major relief as far as I’m concerned.

First, I think they will beg Fernando Martinez to win the starting left field spot and bat 8th (no pressure). I think Mike Carp (and possibly Dan Murphy and Nick Evans) will get a good look at outfield and reserve IF spots.

I think the money and draft picks should be spent on pitching. Even if a team full of those youngsters falls flat on its face, I would rather watch rookies who are playing hard than a team that looks flat, careless, and clueless every day.

        • Dirtysanchez says:

agreed. I would like to see them a different approach going into 09. This team NEEDS to get younger and alot of age and money comes off after this year.

  12. backinbusiness says:

Hey, at least our injuries are real…
    cough, Phil Hughes, cough.

    • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

What a joke that is. Thing is, you know the media will buy into it and take it as a sore oblique.

The reality is, they didn’t want the media to jump all over them and start the “why didn’t they trade these guys for Santana” talk. So, rather than deal with the negative publicity and outright demote Hughes to AAA, they decided to call it an oblique strain, where 2 “rehab” (and I use the word rehab loosely) starts will be the norm.

      • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

…just to add to this. Who really cares though? The Yankees can win 130 games this year for all I car, so long as we win this division. Anybody but the Phillies. Please…..

        • backinbusiness says:

Too bad they didn’t put him on the DL for the “night vision” problems they blamed his start on after it. Funny how an oblique injury can occur while sitting on the bench during someone else’s start.

Anyway, Phils and Braves both lost yesterday…

        • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

Yes….and so did the Marlins!!!! Woo hoo. Unfortunately, the Nats won. We do need to watch our backs you know.

But it seems like we are “backinbusiness”!!! No pun intended. Actually, there was about as much pun intended as Phil Hughes has sore oblique.

        • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free says:

I think he should borrow a page from Duaner and wear some funky night vision goggles to the mound.

  13. LetsGetMetsmerized says:

Castro left the game in the fifth inning after throwing out a runner at first base, but Mets manager Tim Teufel said he will start again tonight in the second game of a three-game series here.

“He just got fatigued a little bit and cramped up, but he’ll be back in the lineup again (tonight), and he’ll play five to seven innings. That’s good news,” Teufel said.

Let’s stay off the ledge and stop jumping to conclusions.

    • mets19 says:

Now I know hes hurt, but maybe hes too fragile to be a catcher. With Casanova and Molina doing an Okay job as the backup, why dont we give Castro a firstbasemen’s mitt and have him start taking grounders at first. He probably wouldnt get injured every other day at first base and he will probably hit very well once he comes close to reaching 100%
