Charlie Manuel is a manager that comes out after a phillies loss and makes firey comments about his teams poor playing after a loss. Is that what you want because you can talk to any phillies fan and they will all say that they wanted him fired mid way thru the season last year. He's only the manager this year because they won the Division last year, if they struggle and lose this year Manuel is gone. Its not about what he says to the fans or media its how he manages a game and yesterday was not willies fault.

I dont think its that the team is not good....Its said that after a time a team will take on the personality of its leader/manager. Well, face it, Willie could be on the Titanic and think that there is just a little hole in the side of the ship! And now this team represents that. I dont have a problem with not yelling and screaming all the time because players will tune that out but seriously, there is a time to be mad and losing 13 -1 against a last place team with your number two pitcher going against a guy with an era of 8 is a damn fine day for a blowup. 14-12, everyone else is not playing all that well....thats like going to a party and saying its ok to drive home drunk because everyone else is doing it too. Enoughs enough guys.... We have no heart and until we fix that problem, until losing actually burns this team, we wont be champions.

Excellent blog by jbmet. I couldn't agree more. No sense of urgency, you would think they would be hungry every game after last year. I commend Matt for not censoring blogs that are calling him on the carpet. Well done. .

Unfortunately willie is signed through next year. I believe the extension they gave him was for three years. It doesn't matter they must fire him and eat the rest of his contract.

Couple of points on Willie:

1) Why i she percieved as some sor tof mythical "winner" at baseball (that is, he has won before, so he should be expected to win again since "he knows how"? He happened to be a relatively complimnetary player on some teams that were wining without him, and maybe gys like Reggie and Hunter had a little bit to do with it?

Also, by that definition, Luis Sojo is a "winner" and Don Mattingly is a "loser" at baseball (hey, just count the rings, right?)

There are tons of great ball players, that play the game hard and the right way, that just happened to be on bad teams. Doesn't mean they wouldn't make great managers!

Actually, I think someone that wasn't always on a great team is better suited, since they know what it feels like to lose, and will bust their butt to avoid it!

2) WIllie won't be fired after the year. IIRC< his contract only runs through this season, so he just won't be offered a new one. Almost, but not quite, being fired!

LOL You can't be serious. He hasn't manged in the majors in eons, he is old as dirt, and he's a wee bit busy this summer managing the olympic team.

The Pirates probably would make that deal actually. Nady is a very good, not great player. He always starts fast then fades for long stretches of the season. Just because hed be a great fit for us doesn't mean we should overvalue him. Its east to get down on Perez after a bad outing, but think about it from this perspective-Would Phillies and Braves fans be more excited to aquire Perez or Nady? Who would worry you more as a Mets fan? Perez is more of an impact player. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Perez bounce back with several dominant outings in a row, followed by another stinker, and so on. Many superstar players are streaky. He's seems to be the pitching equivalent of Carlos Beltran, he's really not very good for stretches but hes one of the very best in baseball when hes in a groove and they both groove often enough to finish with big numbers. I know its been a frustrating season but Perez is what he is, he could get even better, but let's support him either way
