just one thing to note. Castillo is starting a day game after an extra innign night game. encouraging as far as his knees go.

  2. khmustache says:

i like the strawman in the pregame…he brings some good player insight and he’s not an insufferable prick like mazzili

  3. therealsince86 says:

I just noticed on MLBtaderumors that Jason Botts has been DFA’ed. This is the kind of low risk guy I would take a chance on. He has had great minor league numbers but can’t see to put it together in the MLB. He plays OF and 1B and is a switch hitter that hits LHP better than RHP. Hmm.

  4. AlreadyMissShea says:

Mientkiewicz looks like he’s gonna cry.

  5. Dirtysanchez says:

Man im gonna be at work for the whole game that sux.
Lets go mets. Hopefully op can go into the 6th.

  6. AlreadyMissShea says:

Glad I didn’t go today. Lots and lot of school buses.

Game being delayed due to a water main break. It’s not at Shea, but they’re giving people a chance to get there.

  7. m00kie says:

game delayed 10 minutes or so because of a water main break in the area ..

    • kowalski69 says:

in the area or at shea?

One of the games i’ve been at this year there was a literal waterfall coming from the mezz or upper deck area raining down to the floor out by the gates and escalators.

I doubt Shea will do anything to fix that stadium this year unless its an emergency.

btw, if anyones reading this that works for Shea Mgmt… My seat in Mezz 18 Row B Seat 1 is contantly dripped on from the upper deck facade :(((

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Were you at opening day? I was in the uppers and a restroom by my section just basically EXPLODED all over the place. I never saw so much water in that stadium in my life, and there’s always water on the ground. Well, sometimes it’s not water.

        • kowalski69 says:

          Yeah Shea,

it was opening day now that you brought it up… towards the end of the game because i saw it when i was leaving

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

          That was a complete disaster.

        • Ceetar says:

Was _that_ why parts of the ramps down to gate D were closed? I didn’t notice the bathroom cause i was on the other side, but walking down everything seemed closed off.

      • m00kie says:

sounds like it’s outside.. pitchers still not warming up, umpires not out yet, still 15 minutes or so.

  8. ccmetfan says:

It’s cyber chase day. I hope the kids don’t boo too.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Kids are so different today. When I used to go with camp, we treated every Met player like they were Willie Mays in his prime.

    • khmustache says:

i wanna hear a ‘we wanta pitcher not a belly itcher” chant

  9. Jova1931 says:

I thought Perez lost his last start?

  10. AlreadyMissShea says:

Ugh… Citi is looking better and better everyday, but this stand up comic construction foreman guy is annoying.

  11. Nate W. says:

Oliver Perez is not yet warming up, so the game start will still be a while away.

Perez is sitting in the bugout doing his best Leo Mazzone impersonation… hopefully he’s in a good mindset by first pitch.

  12. AlreadyMissShea says:

John Maine should host the offical Water Main(e) Delay Show, kind of like that Maine Street USA thing he does that nobody watches.

  13. AlreadyMissShea says:

    game starts 1:50 now

    • slangon says:

on the FAN, it sounds like the fans are booing the water main.

      • blains2000 says:

The water main upon being booed after this one transgression after 44 years of faithful service is giving the finger to the fans.

  14. ccmetfan says:

    yay,they’re giving kid’s club house

  15. OT: Question for the Willie bashers/Girardi lovers …

Just curious what some of you think of Girardi now. after he decided to pair up a rookie catcher with a badly struggling Phil Hughes against a heavy hitting Tigers club? The results were predictable. What was Girardi thinking? Unless there’s some reason we don’t know about why Molina couldn’t have caught Hughes yesterday, then Girardi made a really stupid move.

    • Also, you think Willie doesn’t show any emotion? Take a look at stone-face Girardi next time you watch a Yankee game.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

I guess I’m not reading as much as I thought I was here. I haven’t seen too much love for Girardi.

        • No, it’s not that there’s a lot of Girardi love here. But every time there’s a full-scale Willie bashathon, he’s one of the names that a few fans always bring up as being the perfect panacea.

    • theperfectgame says:

He’s used to coaching the Marlins. All they had were rookies.

      • I hope that’s a joke. Because it that’s the excuse he gave to Cashman then he’s incompetent.

Also, I should correct myself. Stewart isn’t exactly a rookie, but he’s only caught in 23 games in the majors prior to yesterday whereas Molina has over 400 ML games caught.

  16. Huge Met fan here that always reads, but never writes….
soooo, I thought that should change today! =)
    Let’s Go Mets!!!!!!

  17. sambo says:

    Stupid water main

    • theperfectgame says:

One busted here in Boston last weekend, which caused a natural gas pipe to break and flood. They’ve been cleaning the water out of the gas pipe all week. As you can imagine, it makes things smell oh so terrific. Ahh, springtime in the city…

      • CitizenSnips says:

Yep. I got a frantic call from my landlord saying the sprinklers might be going off due to low water pressure (Mission Hill = higher elevation). Was afraid to get to sleep and wake up covered in water.

        • theperfectgame says:

Yup, that’d be a bummer. Glad to hear (or infer, rather) that you stayed dry.

  18. khmustache says:

thoughts on the cowbell man anybody?

  19. AAAAAHHHHHH! Left work on a half day ..and didnt miss a thing..niiiice…LETS GO METS!!

    • ccmetfan says:

does cow bell man have season tickets? He must have a good job working little hours to able to go to every game

  20. huge_mets_fan11 says:

That would of sucked if we didn’t play today because of a water main break.

    • shlee says:

I’ve heard that the water was turned off meaning there’s no water at Shea. Meaning…no bathrooms? Anybody know someone at the game that can confirm?

I can see why the game would have to be cancelled if the water isn’t turned back on.

    • gomets6091 says:

in retrospect, maybe that would have been a good thing…

  21. theperfectgame says:

5 pitches, 2 outs… keep that going Ollie

  22. ccmetfan says:

nice to hear the children chanting ‘lets go mets’

  23. backinbusiness says:

Did OP just fall off the mound?
Good ol’ OP…never know what you’re gonna get.

  24. theperfectgame says:

Okay, now let’s score some runs.

  25. AlreadyMissShea says:

Ollie gets out of the inning giving up only the walk.
Nice to see Alou sitting in the dugout. Would rather see him in a plastic bubble, but this is probably safe enough.

  26. QnsNative718 says:

Nice call on the plastic bubble… Maybe he can wear some of the catching gear in the mean time..

  27. AlreadyMissShea says:

Kind of off-topic, but our TV and radio here both have some really BAD commercials. That one with the rock band singing out all of the lottery numbers is awful. And a whole break with no Guiseppe Franco???

    • khmustache says:

combine those with amputee lady and the jeter commercials…

    • Roach2 says:

That lottery commercial is everywhere…not just on SNY/WFAN

It doesn’t change that it’s gotten REALLY annoying…guisseppe franco is novelty now…it’s so annoying, it’s enjoyable

  28. backinbusiness says:

Somewhere in the upper deck, a child yells down, “you gotta call the ball!”

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

And you know at least a few of them think they made it happen by yelling “DROP IT DROP IT DROP IT!”

  29. CaseStreet says:

Nice to see Pagan in the lineup. Would be cool to see the kids doing some Angel flappin.

  30. khmustache says:

it is cool to hear the kids cheer every fly ball

  31. AlreadyMissShea says:

Until Gary explained Cyber Chase, I had no idea what it was. I thought it had something to do with a blog for kids :)

  32. metsfan119 says:

    Well, Beltran’s gone for 2 weeks…

  33. Can someone explain Cyber Chase for those of us stuck @ work??? =(

  34. jay15 says:

    Fine as in 93.7%?

  35. AlreadyMissShea says:

I guess it’s a kids show on PBS. Anyone remember when Spiderman went to Shea Stadium to see the Mets on The Electric Company? He also got married at Shea. So us older fans had Spidey, and the kids now have Cyber Chase. I’ve never seen this Cyber Chase show, but I’m sure it’s NO Electric Company!

  36. therealsince86 says:

Guy throws about 30 pitches and we can’t get a man past 2nd. Hopefully all this pitches will catch up with him.

  37. AlreadyMissShea says:

I actually missed the swing because I was out of the room for a sec, but I think the trainer saw something he didn’t like on a swing and miss. Beltran stayed in and he appears to be fine. Nothing to worry about if you’re not watching.

  38. Nate W. says:

Gorzelucky throws a 30 pitch first inning. After getting the first two outs quickly he walked Wright, and Beltran, and nearly Church who he struck out.

it almost looked like he was trying to face Delgado with the bases loaded, knowing he had an easy out in the lineup.

  39. Nightlife says:

I expect a lot of runs out of us today after the way Gorzelanny looked that inning.

  40. AlreadyMissShea says:

MR. KINER! Nice to be home today to listen to Ralph.

    • K-Hern says:

damn it….. I love Kiner….. I should have left early today just to listen to his stories

  41. metsfan941 says:

Hey he is Ralph Kiner he isnt gonna put his name on the line for a team unless they name a booth after him

  42. Nate W. says:

holy sh!t, Ralph Kiner is telling a story I havent heard him tell a dozen times before…

  43. jay15 says:

It won’t matter what Gorzellany does. It looks like Bad Perez showed up today. Could be a long day for us

    • blains2000 says:

This is the reason the arbitraitors are retarded. There is no way Perez should have won his case. Most of his games are top-step games.

      • Constnza81V2.0 says:

Hat eto go all conspiracy theory on Ollie, but I really feel his impending free agency is affecting his performance. I think he’d rather walk 5 guys a game and not get hit, thereby showcasing to teams that he has unhittable stuff but he just needs to refine his mechanics for better control. It’s very telling that the guy isn’t pitching deep into games right now but has a good ERA. It smacks of someone who is pitching to not get hit.

        • blains2000 says:

I’m not a conspiracy theorist but I think you are right. Borass should have known that this was the worst guy to have a “walk year”. Plus I doubt this games goes into his 250 pg sales pitch.

    • khmustache says:

he’s got that “poor poor me” face going…

    • CaseStreet says:

Bad Perez, I want to see Mad Perez or even Glad Perez. Not Bad Perez.

  44. theperfectgame says:

4 walks so far for Ollie. Looks like it’s gonna be one of those games….

  45. backinbusiness says:

Ronny’s point about his head shifting off to the side/arm dragging seems valid, to lay person me.

Seems that OP is probably the worst of our staff to deal with an unexpected delay/warmup delay.

  46. AlreadyMissShea says:

Any day spent listening to Ralph is a good day.

  47. AlreadyMissShea says:

OK, now he’s just getting squeezed.

  48. markthemets says:

Any one warming in the bullpen?

  49. Koko says:

Over/Under on total walks today (both teams combined). . .

    13

  50. AlreadyMissShea says:

Wow, nice Castillo. Tried to turn two and turned none. 1-0 Pirates.

  51. khmustache says:

    damn

  52. Nightlife says:

    WTF Castillo?

  53. AlreadyMissShea says:

It would have been a tough DP, but he missed the easy out at 2nd. He was right there.

  54. blains2000 says:

And people wonder why Willie has to use 7 pitchers every game.

  55. markthemets says:

We gotta suffer 4 more years with Castillo

    • backinbusiness says:

true, that was a really common mistake by Castillo…
      not.

    • therealsince86 says:

Are you serious? Players should never make an error?

      • Roach2 says:

No..they “shouldn’t” but they do ALL THE TIME and people on here shouldn’t wig out every time…especially when the guy making the error is a great defensive player

  56. AlreadyMissShea says:

Well Ollie is in danger of walking in a run now. Bases loaded, 1 out, 3-1 count.

  57. Can we get Figueroa warming up?

  58. Nightlife says:

Man, I never thought I would hear the words “now facing the dangerous Nate McClouth” uttered in my life.

  59. metsfan119 says:

Look on the bright side, Perez’s off-season price tag will go down with every walk.

  60. Nate W. says:

Oliver Perez not doing anything to help the bullpen that was so thoroughly used last night.

we might see Pelfrey and Figueroa today if this keeps up…

  61. dykstraw says:

    LOVE THAT CASTILLO

  62. metsfan119 says:

This hitter has fouled off about 4 ball fours

  63. ccmetfan says:

looks like the bullpen won’t get a two day rest

  64. K-Hern says:

    BOO this man!!!!

  65. zen says:

    ollie has a no-hitter going.

  66. AlreadyMissShea says:

Walked in a run. 2-0 Pirates.

These guys are fouling off tons of pitches. They did it to Johan too. They’re getting the most out of their ABs.

  67. kendychavez says:

    get figueroa up please

  68. metsfan119 says:

This is why I conciously never purchase a ticket when Perez OR Pelfrey pitches

    • Nightlife says:

Well, at least you can usually get 4 or 5 solid innings out of Perez before he does this.

  69. Perez went into this game thinking, “Hey Pirates, you think Tom Gorzelanny is a wild lefty who makes you want to tear your hair out? WATCH THIS.”

  70. Nate W. says:

    F. Sanchez smacks a single up the middle that Perez just missed and its still bases loaded, now 3-0

  71. jay15 says:

We are going to be in the bullpen in the 4th inning (if we are lucky that Perez can even go 4)

At least our bullpen is rested…oh wait

  72. ccmetfan says:

at least nelson will sorta get a start today

  73. Dirtysanchez says:

Its going to be a looong day for us
not so much for ollie the way hes going

  74. khmustache says:

    figgy’s up in the pen…

  75. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Make that 3-0.

  76. theperfectgame says:

    Poor kids…

  77. theperfectgame says:

aw crap, there goes the no-hitter

  78. marvelousmarv says:

I see why he was given away by the bucs when we got him. 5 BBs, (even with an error behind you) is not forgiveable. Not what we want. I guess our pitching coach’s magic isn’t working anymore.

  79. theperfectgame says:

at least the sac fly freed up a base for the next walk…

  80. NY Cuban says:

Where is this guys strike zone? On gameday, alot look like strikes.

  81. lmao! this team is awesome!

  82. AlreadyMissShea says:

    OH MAN.
Someone else take this one… I can’t find the words.

  83. markthemets says:

55 pitches 2 innings and it aint over just yet

  84. metsfan119 says:

Holy sh$t, well, great game guys. Thanks Perez

  85. khmustache says:

    kay…that deserves boos

  86. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Where was Jose???

  87. Nightlife says:

    Jesus christ.

  88. K-Hern says:

    Thank god I’m working……

  89. AlreadyMissShea says:

Ollie done. 1 2/3 innings. 5-0 Pirates. Figgy in.

  90. Nate W. says:

Why did Castillo throw the ball to Delgado so early?

And where was Carlos Beltran? backing up LF?

    • therealsince86 says:

Because of the potential of the guy on 3rd trying to score.

    • MudvilleNine says:

Castillo was on cloud 9. Threw that ball way early, especially knowing Reyes was in left field along the line for the cutoff for third.

  91. khmustache says:

    wow…

  92. marvelousmarv says:

hey can’t we boo for this??

    • blains2000 says:

      I say yes.

      Booooooooooooooooooo!

    • Lets_Go_Mets says:

7-0 Pirates, but no. You must not boo. You will hurt their feelings. Give them your money and shut up.

      • khmustache says:

finally somebody giving the “crappy, ungrateful” fans point of view

      • grotesmask says:

        Holy Crap!

I’ve been blathering on about not booing, and now I’m beginning to re-think it. WTF!

Perez looks like absolute crap lately. Is today his Glavine impression?! 2-0, 3-0 okay, but 7-0 after two. SH*&!!

  93. jay15 says:

Boy did I call this about 2 walks and 4 runs ago. Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket because I’m feeling extra psychic today

  94. blains2000 says:

Nice “rally”. 4 runs on 1 hit.

  95. Perez was the perfect stopper today. These winning streaks the Mets get on leave me with little to complain about. Back to our losing ways…all is right in the world again.

    • metsfan119 says:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Mets will have their 2 or 3 game winning streak, but they always eventually raise their ugly head.

  96. metsfan119 says:

If there was ever a game deserving of refunds, this is it. Oh by the way, can we boo the Mets for that run-down? Or would that hurt their feelings….?

  97. therealsince86 says:

Again, at this point, why take him out? He can’t do any worse than he has already done. If you were going to take him out, why did you wait until now?

  98. Nightlife says:

Well, I think I’m going to play some GTAIV and wait for the team to score some runs.

I have a feeling this could be a 11-10 game.

  99. mrose says:

my slingbox is being used for this? what a waste

  100. dykstraw says:

now are the boos deserved? someone tell me they’re not.

  101. twassel says:

Willie should have Ollie go at least 5 today. I don’t care how many runs he gives up or how many pitches he throws. We can’t keep burning the bullpen, especially ahead of the Arizona series.

  102. cbkolb says:

    Is there a reset button?

  103. Darryl Strawberry says:

If the Mets have any intentions of resigning Perez this winter, I hope they think back and remember games like this. He is too erratic and when Peterson comes out to the mound Perez doesn’t even look at him.

  104. Dirtysanchez says:

    wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
    this one got ugly quick…..

  105. Nate W. says:

with runners on first and second a Pirate hit the ball down the line to LF, the throw came into Castillo at second where the batter was in a rundown. The other runner was at third. Castillo walk the man back towards first and then flipped the ball to Delgado way too early. Reyes was still in LF for the relay, and Beltran was spectating, Castillo joined him… so no one was covering second.

    now its 7-0…

  106. SantanaCYYOung says:

when was the last time the mets blew out an opponent this early in the game to have a laugher?

  107. metsmets17 says:

What a game to remember for those kids there.

  108. haplo says:

Hey look, Reyes distracted by a bumblebee during the rundown play. But hey, **** happens, right? Lay off the kid, I say.

    • mrose says:

      dude who are you?
You come here last night or this morning out of nowhere busting on Reyes…
      Troll

    • therealsince86 says:

What about Castillo was his error because of maturity too? If he had been mature enough he would have gotten the easy out.
You don’t show up again until what happens?

      • haplo says:

        dude who are you?
You come here last night or this morning out of nowhere busting on Reyes…
        Troll

Ah, the death rattle of an internet argument.

What about Castillo was his error because of maturity too? If he had been mature enough he would have gotten the easy out.

That’s all you’ve got? Really? OK. I know, it must be tough, we spent all that time arguing and Reyes’ head is who-knows-where again, like, immediately.

        • mrose says:

the death rattle of an internet argument? did you see your own response to the other poster? you are ASKING for an internet argument… try responding with an actual answer about the subject.

I for one , was asking where you came from and yes, I called you a troll because apparently you only come out to say negative things about reyes….The kid goes 3-3 last night with walks, and makes a real error and a mental error and now hes terrible..ohhh
i get it, your Wallace Matthews!

        • haplo says:

I for one , was asking where you came from and yes, I called you a troll because apparently you only come out to say negative things about reyes

Way to combine an ad hominem with talking solemnly about making an “actual answer.” And you wonder why I called your response the argument’s death rattle.

But yeah, I guess sporting an unpopular opinion makes me a troll. Nevermind that I’m just about the only one in the discussion that didn’t resort to rank name-calling to make my point. I guess I’ll go back under my bridge now.

        • mrose says:

          you didn’t make a point…

          make a REAL point
You are trying to act smarter than everyone, that is tired, I make some typos online and i’m not as intelligent as you? right, keep living that way buddy, you’ll do great in life and everyone will love you…

        • haplo says:

I make some typos online and i’m not as intelligent as you?

Whaaaaaaaa? Where did I point out your typos?

  109. NY Cuban says:

SNY shouldn’t even bother with a replay tonight.

  110. Ed Z says:

can we get that water-main opened up again?

  111. AlreadyMissShea says:

Well it’s not an official game yet.
Can we get another water main break???????????????
I mean, as long as nobody gets hurt… just a little wet???

  112. metsfan119 says:

Can’t wait to see some dumbass GM shell out 120 mil for this clown in the off-season. And you KNOW someone will. There’s always a sucker.

  113. theperfectgame says:

I think I’m gonna turn off Gameday and get some work done. No sense in completely wasting my time.

  114. stickguy says:

normally I would say keep Perez in to save the pen, but I like this move since Figgy was getting skipped anyway. Now he just needs to go 6 or so shut down innings, and let the bats catch up.

Although It wouldn’t surprise me not to see them swing at every 1st pitch, and get no hit, just to get out of town!

  115. backinbusiness says:

this game reminds me of a particularly “devastating” one.

  116. metsfan119 says:

I’d imagine the beer sales in this game should be healthy

  117. mex84 says:

Wow! These Pirates are a great club, they should definately win the central this year with the way they have handled the Mets at shea in this short series, er, wait they are 10-16? What the #&*%!

  118. metsmets17 says:

Cant blame the water main breakage Gary. I was at Shea for the implosion by Perez when he walked a ton of Phillies last year.

  119. MudvilleNine says:

Its contagious, Figgy took that cutoff on the mound on that hit instead of backing up the plate.

The Mets are a brilliantly-coached, focused machine!

Willie Randolph – intellect, strategy, leadership.

      • Roach2 says:

Why don’t you direct your anger where it’s deserved today–OLIVER PEREZ (maybe even Peterson)…

This whole “everything is willie’s fault” act is getting obnoxiously old

        • gipper91375 says:

The inability to hit a guy with an over 8 ERA is Ollie’s fault? The poor fundamentals and two errors in the field are Ollie’s fault? The craptastic play dating back to May last year are Ollie’s fault? The attitude or “we’re so good., we got bored” was Ollie’s fault? The manager taking a season and a half to learn the double-switch was Ollie’s fault?

No doubt, Ollie crapped the bed today. Bad Ollie.

          There. Happy now?

*”…attitude of, not attitude or” We could really use an edit function here.

        • Roach2 says:

Ok, you are obviously looking at everything in a vacuum…everything looks poorly in a win. What about willie playing the bullpen and (for the most part) the lineup to win every game? Does he get no credit for that.

As to some of your specific points:

          - Gorzellanny may have had an ERA over 8, true, but Sabathia had one of 10+. what does this mean? nothing. What does mean something is Gorz was 14-10 with a 3.88 ERA for a HORRIBLE team in 2007 and his K/BB rate was 2:1. He’s obviously a good pitcher, despite the fact this season he hasn’t shown it.

          - Poor fundamentals? Was willie their little league coach? their minor league coach? I love how people talk about poor fundamentals when EVERY player coughs up mistakes. Players slump…get over it.

          - Crap play? Fact of the matter is they’re going to be 14-12 at the end of april. Two games were rained out. Could’ve/probably would’ve won both. 16-12 isn’t such a bad April, and even in worse case scenario, aren’t a below .500 team, so, everyone should relax

          - The attitude, we get so bored attitude was ONE player… player who had played for 15+ seasons and obviously made a poor judgment in saying. I think you can lay off the manager for that one.

          - That double switch/suicide squeeze argument is grasping at freaking straws. Fact of the matter is, double switches aren’t the be all/end all of a baseball game. It’s a tad overrated and as far as i’m concerned, he’s not an OK job with it (despite a few hiccups)

and no, i’m not happy now. Some of these arguments are ridiculous

  120. Good thing is that Gorzelanny was sitting on the bench for a long time, 2 1/2 hours according to my watch, and he should be slightly more wild. Let’s see the Mets take some pitches and force him to throw strikes.

  121. AlreadyMissShea says:

I’m not gonna bother looking this up, because I’m sure there’s nothing to it really. But it seems like every series with the Pirates ends with the final game being a disaster. This is going back a few years now.

    • skylog says:

i am pretty sure you are right. there was a day game at shea where ollie made an error and gave up like 6 in an inning or two. if i remember, the mets came back a little only to give it away again.

    Final line on Perez

    1 2/3 IP, 2 hits, 7 runs, 2 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, 55 pitches, 28 strikes

well he got 3 outs, I guess the error isnt Perez’s fault or responsability. At least thats what Perez seemed to think…

    • metsmets17 says:

What makes u think he is thinking that?

He dug himself into that hole. Not to take the blame off the defense but excessive wildness typically leads to defensive lapses. Once again not to take the blame off the defense.

      bad all around

      • Nate W. says:

because he did nothing after the error. He completely gave in and let up all those unearned runs without much of a fight.

      • blains2000 says:

Agree with you but this team does a louse job of picking each other up. Someone makes a mistake it’s like someone else makes one just to make the first guy feel better.

  146. CaseStreet says:

  149. blains2000 says:

Gorzelanny’s era coming in was 8.46. So of course will probably throw a shut-out. Reminicent of Lilly last week.

Mets’ bats – the perfect cure for a bloated era.

  150. LIMetfan74 says:

Once again this team plays with their heads up their ends! Just once can they show some fire.

  151. SantanaCYYOung says:

the mets’ll score a couple of runs toward the end of the game

  152. Nate W. says:

why is Castillo still in this game?

rest his knees, he clearly doesnt have his head in the game today, so why leave him in there?

  153. markthemets says:

I cant watch this anymore the Mets are overachieving they are 3 over 500 so they are due for a loss

  154. AlreadyMissShea says:

Look, this Mets offense struggles with certain kinds of pitchers, and no team can win every game. So basically they just have to recognize what kind of pitchers they struggle with, and then try and beat up on everyone else.

I think by now we know which pitchers they struggle with:

    Pitchers they’ve never seen before.
    Pitchers they see a lot.
Pitchers coming off of the DL.
Pitchers getting ready to go on the DL.
Pitchers getting ready to go into a nursing home.
Pitchers who will be skipped in their following start so they can go to their senior prom.

    Other than that, they’re fine.

  155. Nate W. says:

Gorzelanny has thrown 54 pitches in 3 no hit innigs…

The Mets will get a run or three against the Pirates bad relievers in the 7th or 8th, then roll over and play dead.

  156. blains2000 says:

BTW Figgy has now pitched longer and more effectively than Perez and it is only the 4th inning.

Also, I pitched more effectively than Perez by going to work today.

  157. ccmetfan says:

only of two of Perez’s runs were earned. Not too bad for my fantasy team.

  158. sirk says:

ok this is how this game ends ppl

    delgado hits a homer

then he later hits a grandslam to make it 7-6, nd comes out for curtain call

then bottom of 9th pirate guy makes an error, beltran comes up,
”one swing can win it for new york”

    mets win 8-7 !

    • ravi3 says:

Clearly you have not been a fan for very long, because you’ve pretty optimistic

      • Jaded1983 says:

ha exactly, i thought he was going to end it by saying “beltran comes to bat and watches a called 3rd strike”

im glad im at work and not watching the game today. ugh, stay positive… just gotta keep repeating that. stay positive!

    • KFS says:

Some people really do take that “we believe” thing a little too far.

    • khmustache says:

then willie wakes up from his wonderful dream, looks up just in time to see castillo ground into the double play…mets lose 13-2

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

… and says, “I think Oliver threw the ball pretty well. He needs to work on his location a little bit.”

  159. theperfectgame says:

Hey, the kiddies might get to see a no-hitter today…

  160. huge_mets_fan11 says:

No knock on the classic Ralph Kiner but when ever he makes an apperance he is so funny. He talks about the rules like we are watching baseball for the first time.

  161. AlreadyMissShea says:

And Delgado breaks up the no-hitter.

  162. khmustache says:

    one of those days

  163. ghobot says:

      willie deserves it…he’s a moron

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

It’s not that Willie’s a moron. He’s just very relaxed. Much more relaxed than we are. That’s because we watch the games. :)

      • NY Cuban says:

Willie has this team playing with their heads up their ….
Even last night, they did everything they could to blow it. Luckily we were playing the Pirates.

    • KFS says:

yea, you’re totally right. None of what happened today is any of Willie’s fault.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

        Does it really matter?
Fans have been taking digs at managers for like a thousand years now. Better managers than Willie Randolph too.

Most of the time, the manager isn’t as bad as he looks on his worst day, and he’s not a good as he looks on his best.

But fans take digs at managers. Almost everything in this thread has been tongue-in-cheek.

Why do people get so sensitive about it when it’s on Willie? It’s just strangers joking around on a blog.

        • KFS says:

          sarcasm

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Oh don’t get me wrong. I didn’t mean you. I meant in general. People get so sensitive about it. It really doesn’t matter what anyone says about Willie anyway. This team is either getting to the NLCS or he’s gone. That’s how I see it.

        • gipper91375 says:

He may not get that long. Recent stories say Wilpons giving him until end of May.

  164. blains2000 says:

    Jaded1983 – “stay positive!”

huh? You sure are not living up to your name. :-)

  165. AlreadyMissShea says:

When I go like this on my head… It feels like I have a full head of hair back there. It works. It really works!

  166. CaseStreet says:

Not to worry everyone. The G-Men lost the first two of the season and look how they ended up. I still believe.

  167. Nate W. says:

Figueroa still pitching, 40 pitches and counting.

Sosa was up in the pen, but Molina made the last out popping up a 3-1 pitch against a pitcher with more walks than IP this year…

  168. Danny1986 says:

Perhaps they will score 3 runs in this game during garbage time. But mentally, this entire team is hoping to get to the airport and fly standby on an earlier flight to ARZ. In fact, Willie is in the LaGuardia Red Carpet Lounge as we speak sucking down bloodies. They are SOOOO completely checked out.

No way do they even come close to making this a competitive contest. And everyone here knows this is the truth. And that is how this team has evolved (better yet….DEvolved) since 2006.

So we should all take this one opportunity, as it is living right before our eyes for the next 2 hours, and realize the true characterof this team. And it’s exact situations like this where our many issues come to surface, and the team leadership should be scrutinized, as well as their manager. This is a disgusting display of passion-less baseball.

    • gipper91375 says:

LOL You used “team leadership” and “manager” in the same sentence in reference to the Mets.

      Oh man, that’s a laugh.

    • Nate W. says:

how was this team so different mentally in 2006?

the Rickey Henderson effect is still damaging this team after he is gone…

      • NY Cuban says:

The players still believed in Willie in 2006. That collapse left irreparable damage. The only players who are decent this year weren’t here last year.

        • Danny1986 says:

and that’s sad. We are anchored by ex Washington Nationals and journeyman.

          too true.

    • Constnza81V2.0 says:

Say what you will about how this team is constructed, but the sloppiness and passionless baseball, as you say, is an issue rooted in the locker room. The idea that this team’s lineup is going to be a “full strength” come Friday night is probably not helping these guys.

      • Danny1986 says:

Hey man, I do generally agree. I have no idea what the issue is with these guys. But I do know 2 things:

        1) This group of players are NOT going to cure themselves. We have the sample set of the past 150 games played to realize this. There is no Ventura “MoJo Rising”, Davey’s “We are going to dominate”, or Tug’s “Ya Gotta Believe” personality on this team. Clear and present fact. No Brainer.

        2) The one man in the clubhouse who, by default, is in the position and possesses the power (hence I say ‘power’…not ‘ability’) is Willie. And from my viewpoint, he has done little to change the mood and morale of the shipmates. He has the power, but no ability. His style and demeanor is contrary to what is required to get this team prepared to play to their potential. Simly put…HE DOES NOT GET THE BEST OUT OF HIS PLAYERS.

        • gipper91375 says:

Well put. With the Wilpons saying he has til the end of May, I fear we may just be delaying the inevitable and in 30 days or so, when the Mets are still scuffling in the vicinity of .500, Willie will be shown the exit. It all should have happened last October.

        • Danny1986 says:

All I really want to know is this….

          And it’s simple.

What is Willie Randolph’s PLAN? What is his philosophy to winning baseball? And how doe Willie execute that plan?

I am left clueless. And it’s been 4 years.

        • gipper91375 says:

Willie Randolph – planner, philosopher, executor.

Oh man, it is good to laugh on a day like today.

        • Danny1986 says:

what can I say?…i’m on a roll today.

  169. LIMetfan74 says:

One hit this is a joke! They always seem to play down to their competition. They also horrible day games after night.

  170. metties1 says:

I wish we had one player that is half as hot as McLouth is right now

  171. blains2000 says:

Are there any more 2 game series on the schedule? I know only one of the three has been scheduled so far but they have ben a disaster.

  172. Danny1986 says:

OK…trying to be positive during this debacle. So one good take-away from this game.

Many kids at the stadium right now. And they are chanting “Let’s Go Mets”. I did not hear one single despicable, disgusting, and ear peircing “Whoot!” suring their chanting. So I have hope for the next generation of Mets fans.

I would personally like to line up and shoot who ever was the first moron who ruined one of the best chants in the game.

    • Roach2 says:

I cringe every time i hear it on TV….i’ll drop the 2nd hit from the grassy knoll just to make sure the job got done

  173. metties1 says:

I love how it’s all about Willie. Why isn’t anyone mentioning Peterson then? He is the one who is tasked with keeping Perez focused…

    • NY Cuban says:

Castillo, Reyes, Delgado…? They all look REAL focused.

      • metties1 says:

what’s your point? Perez is the one who crapped the bed… I love how no one wants to hold the player’s accountable. Willie is the same mold as Torre people. Same laid back personality, etc… I just don’t see how this jagov falling apart at the first sign of trouble in an inning should lead to a Willie bashing…

At the same time, I’m not going to commend him for much either. The manager gets way too much credit/blame all of the time. These guys get paid millions. They are on a contending team in the greatest city in the world (with fans who are ready to boo the crap out of them).. Why the F does Willie need to say anything to motivate them???

        • NY Cuban says:

Then why do we have Willie? For his strategic prowess? Obviously not that. Its to motivate and keep this team playing at its highest level. Do you think they are doing that?

  174. arudeawakenin says:

This game is reminding me of when I played little league, pitcher walks in a couple of runs, player swings through pitches right down the middle, and error.

also, could the lack of run production be blamed on Hojo?

    • blains2000 says:

That definitely is a valid point as Rick Down took the bullet last year.

    • KFS says:

hard to say. When the head guy instills a lax culture in the clubhouse, it’s hard for any middle managers to do their job. So I’m not sure if Hojo is to blame or not.

  175. sirk says:

ya know way Danny 1986 sed was right,

they got worse since 06, nd i kno how ppl r saying its early its not over yet,.. yeh its still early but u can pretty much tell, if delgado doesnt have a season like 06, which seems impossible cuz hes not even having one like 07, mets cant win. im not saying its all over cuz of today, but in general, mets need a few of there players or a lot to actually be outstanding and do something for this team. there was some kind of feeling in 06 like u knew they were gunna win big, they should of won it all, this season doesnt feel like tht at all…so far……nd for now….we’ll see in the future or in august i guess…

    • NY Cuban says:

They got worse since the Celebration after winning the division. Remember the 2 weeks after. Then we thought they were out of it when they played the Dodgers and then Willie was outmanaged by LaRusa. This team was never the same…

  176. egnirc says:

Can the Mets finally fire their advance scouts?

Perhaps Omar should pull his scouts from the Carribean and make them actually pay attention to MLB teams.

Maybe HoJo can read ESPN and Rotoworld and get better reports on the opposing pitchers than the drivel the team scouts are obviously giving them.

This group of Mets MLB scouts from 2006-2008 are obviously collecting paychecks for no work done.

There is obviously a lack of information or disinformation coming from their wonderful scouting department.

    • Roach2 says:

GREAT point! i’ve been wondering about this too. How come the mets NEVER seem to do well against pitchers/hitters they rarely see?

  177. Nate W. says:

hey there is womens volleyball on MSG+

if i’m going to watch happlessly inept athletics today at least they can be women in bikini’s…

  178. backinbusiness says:

    who is warming up, sosa?

  179. CaseStreet says:

Nice way to welcome the next generation of Mets fans. Make them suffer early.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

80 years from now one of those kids there today will be telling his grandkids, “I was at a Met game back in 2008 that was so bad, the pitcher couldn’t get out of the 2nd inning and they decided to knock down the stadium and start over again the following year. And the only survivor of that fateful season was our current outfielder, Moises Alou. And you wait, when he rejoins the team, you’re gonna see some hitting!”

      • blains2000 says:

The first Met game I ever attended was a loss to the Cubs. Why should these kids be any different?

        • cbkolb says:

I haven’t been to a win since the Bobby Bo years…I go to probably 2-5 games a year (some home, some away)….

The last win I saw in person was a 15-1 drubbing over the Bucs in the old 3 River Stadium. Bobby Bo’s 1st year as a Met…

          Good times!

      • mattygreen says:

        that’s hilarious, well done

ps the sooner we fire willie the better

  180. Hemenway says:

Hey folks, this team just isn’t that good.
I do not care how early it is. That comment is getting very, very old. This team shows no signs.
Come on. This is the Pirates. They should have won yesterday as well. That is just weak.

Can’t wait to watch against Arizona. Best thing for this team is a nice losing streak so it realizes what it is. And I mean that. Some things have to change.

    • Roach2 says:

Ummm, they did win yesterday aaaaaaand good teams lose against bad teams all the freaking time….first season?

      • Hemenway says:

        You are dillusional, brother.
If you think this team will hit it’s “stride” and ever do consistently well this year, you will be disappointed. They have nothing. As in 12-0.

        • Roach2 says:

I was just pointing out something completely false in your post (that they hadn’t won).

They’re showing no signs huh? So taking 4 of 6 from the phillies and winning the last series against the braves isn’t a sign?

          Who’s delusional, “brotha”?

First month of the season. A lot of BAD teams are doing well and many a good team isn’t….so, again, FIRST SEASON?!?!

        • Roach2 says:

Or how about this for another sign…

The 2007 team hadn’t gotten a 5 game winning streak going until September. They already have one in 2008 and tomorrow begins May.

  181. Nate W. says:

Luis Castillo pops up to the catcher. The ball went about 30 feet up.

All Luis needs is a strikeout on a wild pitch where he doesnt run to first and his day of bungleheaded plays will be complete.

  182. backinbusiness says:

Gorzelanny’s inability to wipe that goofball grin off his face, even as he writhes in pain, just makes things that much worse.

  183. sirk says:

this is really really really really really sad…

  184. I can proudly say, i would have fared better in that last at bat against Gorzelanny than David Wright did.

  185. NY Cuban says:

If Willie was on the Titanic, you think he would have said, “Don’t worry, its early. I’m going to the sip on the champagne when we all get through this.” ???

  186. On another note, i cant wait until Sosa is off this team. The polish has completely rubbed off this turd and he has no right being on this team…where the hell is Matt Wise?

  187. ExileInLA says:

When Perez becomes an outfielder, will he hit as well as Rick Ankiel?

And, did Scott Boras really mean it when he told Ollie that this is his “WALK” year?

[thank you, I'll be appearing here all week...try the veal.]

  188. Nate W. says:

wow, Carlos Gomez got on base for once…

can we get a mercy rule on today or will the bullpen get abused yet again?

    • backinbusiness says:

He’s hitting .265, or, better than many of our players.
I will cheer for this guy for a long, long time. MN is a great place for him–he can grow into stardom there.

      • Nate W. says:

Not even close… though I too wish him well, its just that he hasnt been able to get on base at all this year.

        His OBP is .260
        His Avg is .240
        He has 2 BB and 24 SO’s

He is still thier leadoff hitter…

        • nrmax88 says:

Go check out Jose Reyes’ stats from his first full season. He was our leadoff hitter.

        • Nate W. says:

why? the guy claimed he was better than many of the current Mets. Its completely wrong. It has nothing to do with how the 2004 Reyes compares to the 2008 Gomez. If Gomez was on the Mets he would be in AAA.

  189. SantanaCYYOung says:

one month into the season and all i keep hearing is that its early and this team hasn’t found its groove yet. But when is this groove coming? we waited for it for 5 months last year, remeber 5 months, not just September! And this first month just feels like a continuation. its may and we play three in AZ (best team in ML) and in LA, currently we are only 2 games over .500, what will the record be after this road trip???????

And when will it be time to start saying that it is not early?

  190. NY Cuban says:

    Willie’s thinking:
    OP for 1 2/3
    Figgy for 3 1/3
    Sosa fo 1
    Heilman for 1
    Smith for 1
    Sanchez for 1

He doesn’t want to bring down this average number of pitchers used in a game. “If I make extra moves, maybe they will think I know what I’m doing”

  191. blains2000 says:

Sosa’s BAA going in was .308! Geez!

  192. backinbusiness says:

    Oy.

Are forfeits allowed in professional sports?

Leave Sosa in for the rest of the game — seriously.

    • blains2000 says:

I totally agree. Sosa needs to take on for the team and then get replaced by Wise.

  193. AlreadyMissShea says:

OK, Gary said they’re going to take phone calls today.
Which one of you want to go first?

  194. LIMetfan74 says:

As bad as they look it wouldnt shock me if they took 2 out of three from Arizona. They tend to play well there.

    • Nate W. says:

There’s just one problem with going to Arizona this year. The D’bags are actually good this time…

  195. getacluemets says:

Should be an interestin battle all year to see which Carlos can finish with a worse batting average….at least theryll both sleep well on top of there pile of cash…

  196. backinbusiness says:

It’s nice when it turns to laughter.

Please, please, please, leave Sosa in.

  197. NYCESQ says:

    Um, ok the gags up.

Giuseppe Franco can run on the field now and say that this is one big practical joke.

  198. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

    Bad News Bears

  199. ccmetfan says:

Sosa is really taking it for the team.

  200. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Ugh.
    12-0

This is one of those games where you would just rather see the Mets not score one run at this point. Save it for Friday since this is over and they’re gonna need all the offense they can get.

12-0 somehow looks better than 12-1 or 12-2 anyway. It’s like when someone doesn’t leave a tip in a restaurant. No tip at all actually looks better than 12 cents on the table. Save the pennies for the weekend and just get out of town ASAP.

    • gomets6091 says:

it’s 13-0 now. Maybe they should just give up 1 more run and say they were honoring the Jets today.

  201. sirk says:

this is the worst, how can the mets ……… get away with this ? i mean iduno wat to say….

  202. I just heard people booing! Dont those idiot fans know that booing will not help this team! Real fans would be cheering them through this! Garble Blaergh !

  203. METS08WSCHAMPS says:

When is it time to start criticizing the pretty boy 3b on this team. 4 for 33 and cant field anything. He never gets a big hit.

  204. NYCESQ says:

    Alou, please suit up.

    Love,
    NYC esq.

  205. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Make that 13-0

  206. blains2000 says:

Holy Cr@p! Sosa’s like Doug Sisk, Neil Allen, Armando Benitez and Braden Looper combined!

  207. gometzies_18 says:

    Get Sosa out of here….NOW

…NOT Next Month, NOT Next Week….

    NOW

Even in a blowout, this guy is WORTHLESS…I hate seeing him in a Mets Jersey.

…The shine is coming of Pagan, too. Man we need Alou Back

  208. nrmax88 says:

Was that Roger Cedeno trying to field that ball? It would have been funny if Pagan wasnt going to catch the ball, for him to atleast take it off the face. That would have been pretty entertaining.

  209. LIMetfan74 says:

Why would anybody sit there and watch anymore of this just leave!

  210. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

I would take one digit from the Pirates score at this point, 1 or 3.

  211. washtiger says:

    As Casey Stengel once said:

“Can anyone here play this game?”

What an embarassment! Sosa’s gotta be the first to go, with Delgado closely behind.

    Yikes…

  212. Mr.Spock says:

How about some EARNED boos for the Mets today??… boy, they really suck!!! AND it is not over yet….. They make every sucky team look great.

  213. metties1 says:

On the bright side, it is fairly obvious what roster move we need to make for Wise this weekend. Peace Jorge!

  214. sirk says:

yeh sosa is horrible..hes been doing everything wrong..remember sept 30th last year, glavines performance was unexceptable, but sosas the one tht gave up those 2 runs to make 7-0 tht day instead of 5-0, if it was 5-0 the mets would of had a better chance last season i think…i kno thts the past, but sosa does everything bad for the mets so they dont win nd stuff…trade him now..o wait, hes too bad to even do tht,.,,,,,…

mets will rally in this game !!!!!

  215. gipper91375 says:

I just love how this team masters the fundamentals and plays crisp ball even in blowouts.

    Oh, wait……

  216. dwright012 says:

We couldn’t get Nady back for Ollie if we wanted too!

Omar and Willie are equally guilty for 2008.

    • nrmax88 says:

“We couldn’t get Nady back for Ollie if we wanted too!”

I dont know if you are serious. If you are serious, you are an absolute moron.

  217. Jaded1983 says:

    wow this is awful….

im already thinking ahead to friday seeing as this game ended once OP got his hand on the ball

  218. metties1 says:

you gotta love the pirates walking a batter up 13-0. That is how awful they are. Did I mention we are losing 13-0 to them…

  219. Dirtysanchez says:

    what happened?!
i actually did some work and its 13-0??

  220. sheaheykid says:

this is a .500 team. everyone i know calls me a pessimist or a cynic. its early they say. who cares if its early? its still a .500 team

  221. ccmetfan says:

get your rally caps out everybody!!

  222. AlreadyMissShea says:

    YEAH! :)

  223. Nate W. says:

btw, thats 9 unearned runs on the Mets side today.

and that was the 13th walk of the game, leaving 3+ innings left to top the other.

oh look the Mets muster a run now that they are down 13…

  224. sirk says:

word!!!! mets are gunna rally this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mark my words!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  225. SantanaCYYOung says:

i would have all the players doing drills after the game if i were the manager

    fire randolph, he’s a joke

  226. backinbusiness says:

Good for those kids cheering the 13-1 game. oy.
If Willie pulls Sosa, I’m going to scream.
If anyone other than Sosa is sent down for wise, I will become violent.

  227. Gasface77 says:

The only way the Mets can win is if Church has a 14 RBI day.

  228. gomets6091 says:

at least Ryan Church is awesome…

  229. almar1965 says:

Just got online to check the box score seeing as I was out most of the day.

I almost vomited in my mouth.

And to think, they could have easily blown last nights game as well. I mean these are the Pirates for cryin’ out loud,…and aside from the 13 run s given up, they could only muster up 1 hit so far?

    and Wright another error? WTF?

Guess this strengthens the argument that the Gold Glove award has no validity.

    • blains2000 says:

Well, his glove is fine. It’s his arm that’s less than golden.

      • almar1965 says:

I know his glove is fine, and I know his arm stinks, but throwing is part of a players entire fielding skills.

I know Wright has worked hard on this over the winter, and I give him credit for trying to improve an important part of his game (considering he plays third base) but he is not a newbie to baseball anymore. What the hell is going on in his head already with his throwing?

For those who might gloss over it, one day he will make a vintage Wright throwing error in the post-season to cost them a game and then the crap will hit the fan.

  230. metsmets17 says:

What’s with the different music played at Shea this year? Sounds like something from early 80’s.

  231. LIMetfan74 says:

    To Quote Homer simpson:
Yeah, Moe, that team sure did suck last night. They just plain sucked! I’ve seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked!

  232. sirk says:

those kids fuked up the game nd ruined it..im sorry…its all their fault.

also i had a dream that there will be like one game where beltrans has 8 rbi’s

  233. Nate W. says:

Pagan is 6 for his last 35, which is .171 with 1 BB and 10 K’s. And his defense which wasnt costing them earlier had been costing them some runs lately.

  234. Willie better not burn Feliciano in this blow out. Sosa better finish out this game, i dont care if he gives up 35 more runs.

    • backinbusiness says:

you and i are out of luck.

don’t worry, feliciano will only pitch to one batter :P

  235. almar1965 says:

Make that 2 hits so far,…. LOL!

  236. Nate W. says:

they were actually going to PH for Sosa, but Molina made the last out. what the hell, leave him in there until he begs to go on the DL…

    • blains2000 says:

I totally agree since they are going to DFA him for Wise on Friday anyway. Who cares if he throws 200 pitches?

      • backinbusiness says:

we can never be too sure…
i still have a sinking feeling they will send smith to AAA.

  237. Dirtysanchez says:

welp this was a bad game…….
    ante up for friday

  238. Nate W. says:

omg, Feliciano is in this game… wouldnt want them to get rusty

  239. SantanaCYYOung says:

    willie must go

  240. metsmets17 says:

Cohen keeps going on about this water main and the delay.

Come on Gary don’t insult us.

  241. AlreadyMissShea says:

Because of the delay this game is actually just over 2 hours long. Well, around 2:15.

Feels like it’s been going on for about 4 hours.

  242. Nate W. says:

Feliciano with a 5 pitch inning… I didnt think that was allowed today…

  243. tfc3rid says:

Can we boo if we’re at this game?? Does that booing make the players go out there and look like their waiting for their boarding call at LGA??

    • Nate W. says:

they played so poorly today we should go to LaGuardia and boo them as they board the plane…

  244. backinbusiness says:

this is positively absurd. they are all gonna pitch! wtf?!?!?!?!

  245. sirk says:

i bet by september 30th all these comments will be like, can’t wait for the playoffs!! not, fire willie…..

  246. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Not a good couple of day for NY against Pittsburgh teams. Here’s my theory for today:

I think the real Mets are on their plane headed to Arizona. Probably getting out there early to do a few rounds of golf since they know the Rangers are going to take up all the good tee times really soon.

I went to the Rangers game last night, but also had tickets for last night’s Mets game looks like I made the wrong choice.

  247. arudeawakenin says:

Heilman is coming in, who’s wants to takes bets on how many runs he allows.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I am going to say ZERO.
      1-2-3 inning.

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

You know what would change the way EVERYONE spoke about Willie today? Willie haters and Willie defenders alike?

If Heilman pitches a 1-2-3 inning here, and as he gets to the top step, Willie walks up and kicks him right in the family jewels, then sits right back down.

        That would get everyone talking!

      • arudeawakenin says:

you may be right, I wouldnt be surprised if he pitched a perfect inning

    • Nate W. says:

He will be lights out, obviously

  248. Jaded1983 says:

lets just hope that philly and atlanta lose tonight too…..

  249. metsmets17 says:

“It’s just one of those games.”

    “It’s just one game.”

Who wants to bet who will say that during postgame?

    a) Willie Randolph

    b) Carlos Beltran

    c) David Wright

    d) Oliver Perez

    e) Darryl Strawberry

  250. metsmets17 says:

They will take it out on Heilman.

    • MetsRmilife says:

Yea he was going to be abused anyways but this will be as loud as 5,000 can boooooo.

  251. blains2000 says:

Oh and this was Gorzelanny’s first outing of the year giving up 0 runs. The Mets are like baseball’s Statue of LIberty.

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled pitchers yearning to lower their 9.00 era.”

  252. MetsRmilife says:

The only reason I’m still watching is to hear these phone calls. For their sake I hope they have a 7 second delay because the language is going to be colorful to say the least.

  253. Dirtysanchez says:

    lol

  254. Jaded1983 says:

i cant wait to get home tonight and watch DNL to hear Willie sputter in his post game conference today. what could he possibly say?

“yep, we sure did suck today. Thanks for your time…”

    • tfc3rid says:

Touch game, tough game… We gotta get things back together and go on a little run here… We’re going to a place we play well and we gotta get a little groove going…

Perez was missing just a little bit with his pitches but he had good stuff…

This is just one game on the schedule and we just gotta pick ourselves up by the bootstraps and come out Friday.

      • SantanaCYYOung says:

u should change your name to willie randolph

      • metties1 says:

Man that was dead on… Maybe you guys do have a point about this guy. I don’t know why I defend him so much. I was the last one to turn on Isiah now that I think about it. Still rockin the knicks hat though

    • backinbusiness says:

i mean, what would you say? he shouldn’t even bother to take questions.

      • Jaded1983 says:

i have no clue what i’d say. only thing i can think of is that cliche things that tfc3rid said above.

        • backinbusiness says:

I would say “The team played horribly and will report tomorrow morning for drills before we fly to Arizona. That’s all.”

        • tfc3rid says:

What I would say is that this team embarrassed themselves out there… They need to take a good look in the mirror and ask themselves if they are a contender or a pretender…

Do they have what it takes to win or are they going through the motions because if you;’re going through the motions you can sit on the damn benchin favor of someone who WANTS to play…

        • Nate W. says:

you do a nice Lou Pinella impersonation as well…

        • tfc3rid says:

I know how to get the most out of my guys…

        • tfc3rid says:

Don’t laugh man, these guys are professionals… They didn’t get here by not knowing what they are doing…

          We’re just scuffling a little bit… We’ll get things going soon…

        • blains2000 says:

          ..nice little rhythm..

  255. marvelousmarv says:

With OP’s outing today he and Maine are in the top ten in the NL for BBs. This has got to change if we’re going to have any shot at all. Especially OP. Its not like pitches 8 innings of shutout ball and has a few wlks along the way. No no no, this guy lets the floodgates loose. 5, 6, 7 Walk outings.

I was at the Phillys game last April in the first week and I couldn’t believe how many guys he was walking. I suddenly know the meaning of Deja Vu.

  256. stickguy says:

SOsa needs to go for Wise.

Man, went for a conference call and the uglieness exploded.

  257. MetsRmilife says:

“Hey Gary, Ron.” “Why do these guys suck so bad?”

  258. backinbusiness says:

1-2-3 Heilman. Perhaps he can regain his value as the mop-up man!

  259. rogasm says:

This team sucks. The band aid of Johan Santana only made the glaring weaknesses shine.

  260. metsmets17 says:

    Giuseppe Franco for new manager.

    Beltran will have better hair.

He wont put his name on the line for a team that doesnt work.

  261. AlreadyMissShea says:

Someone call in as Guiseppe and tell Gary he should get on the Procede program… RIGHT NOW!

  262. gipper91375 says:

Finally…a weak, four or five person “Fire Willie!” chant at the start of the bottom half of 8th.

  263. metties1 says:

I love the Bucs pitcher’s name, Meek. Its like he’s describing the mets offense today. I don’t think Meek is a word but it sounds appropriate. Actually Meep would be perfect….

  264. metsmets17 says:

Tony from Sacramento is smoking crack!

  265. metties1 says:

You know it was an awful game when Heilman’s performance was the lone bright spot

    • backinbusiness says:

Feliciano, and I don’t *think* Delgado had an error or misplay in the field.

8 walks, and nothing to show for it. amazing.

Oddly, the mlb.tv doesn’t play the caller’s questions.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Maybe Heilman will demand to be traded. :)

    • Nate W. says:

I cant really give Feliciano and Heilman too much credit, the Bucs are swinging at everything and the strike zone is the size of Ramon Castro’s head…

  266. CaseStreet says:

They can still come back. They did it the last game of the year, didn’t they.

    • Jaded1983 says:

you know, i can see the offense busting out score 8 or 9 runs in one inning, but itll obviously be too little too late.

  267. arudeawakenin says:

we only need 3 grand slams *sigh*

  268. MacD81 says:

Boy, sounds like this is one time where I’m glad I’ve been at work instead of watching the game.

    • Dirtysanchez says:

lol i was thinking the same thing

      • blains2000 says:

Me too. How bad is that? Work is better that this lousy game.

I think I threw up a little in my mouth.

        • Mr.Spock says:

          Me too…. haaaa

I am actually being productive today because of this game… I am glad I won’t waste time tonight watching it on Tivo.

  269. AlreadyMissShea says:

    OH MAN!
There goes Mr. Darling’s drink AND his scorecard.
If the scorecard is wrecked do we get to start over?

  270. backinbusiness says:

That is hilarious. Fouled right into Darling’s drink.
That scorecard deserved to be destroyed.

    • Gasface77 says:

Dude, that was so funny!!! Then they just cut the camera to him cleaning up. When he was done, he said “So, what’s happening Gary?” Translation…is this day over yet?

  271. ccmetfan says:

you know its a funny game when a foul ball knocks Ron’s coffee

  272. backinbusiness says:

Time for the Show to warm up. God forbid we have a game that doesn’t use every single reliever…

    …except Smith. Again.

  273. Nate W. says:

Molina again makes the last out of the inning, I think he did that every time up today. 7 LOB for him, lol

  274. AlreadyMissShea says:

Darling must have just hated that entire inning. Besides the coffee mess, I’m sure these guys just love taking calls during a game.

  275. tfc3rid says:

9 walks for the Mets today and no runs…

  276. blains2000 says:

So have the Mets set some sort of record for most ABs with the bases loaded WITHOUT hitting a GS?

  277. Nate W. says:

again, imagine if the Mets had another game at 7 tonight.

we’d be seeing Sosa DFA, and Pagan optioned to AAA so they can call up Muniz and some other pitcher… and Pelfrey would be the starter, yikes…

  278. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

What? They aren’t going to bring in Wagner to hold the Bucs so we can win in it in the 9th?

  279. ccmetfan says:

mets were just taking live batting practice today against the pirates to get ready to face the dbacks

  280. NY Cuban says:

We have been blown out by the Nationals and Pirates…WOW!

  281. Runshouse says:

Down by 12 and Heilman becomes Sandy Koufax.

  282. metsfansince1992 says:

Heilman was outstanding! If he only did that when it matters.

  283. metsmets17 says:

    Our guy really battled today.

    -Art Howe

  284. AlreadyMissShea says:

    Why are they booing?
This one could have gone either way.

  285. metsmets17 says:

It seems like the Mets always play crappy on weekday games and on saturdays….especially when they’re on FOX.

    • MacD81 says:

Or when the wind blows in. Or when the wind blows out. Or when it is partly sunny. Or when it is partly cloudy. Or when Delgado has cheerios instead of trix. Or when Beltran uses Old Spice instead of Brut. Or when Jose laughs once a day instead of twice a day…

  286. blains2000 says:

Watching Anderson struggle this year just points out another thing that was wasted last year. One of the more amazing seasons by a pinch hitter. It seemed like he came thru every time.

  287. CaseStreet says:

I think the team got scared with the unfamiliar sounds of children cheering. They needed the boos earlier.

  288. metties1 says:

does that mean they only play well on sundays?

    • metsmets17 says:

      usually better on sunday

unless they’re on ESPN of course…….lol

      • NYMBosco says:

That’s because of willie’s damn malaise and laid back demeanor causing the team to be practically asleep on day games! He must go…Fred, Jeff, Omar please, please get rid of this clown…..We can never put the hammer down on a series…He gives away too many games…Yes Perez sucked but he waited until the game was already out of hand.. He can’t motivate his offense…they suck…..$140 million payroll of dogs….

  289. therealsince86 says:

It was over at 5. I would have kept Perez in and let him give you at least 120 pitches.

  290. Giaco says:

Figgy has got to at least get to the 5-6th inning

  291. Steal Home Jose! says:

Remember the game against the Braves in….99? when we came back from a huge deficit and Piazza crushed that ball to left field?

    ….maybe?

  292. Nate W. says:

He can go the rest of the way, he’s thrown complete games and he’s well rested.

If they need someone else, I would use Pelfrey. Today would have been his start but for the rain out.

  293. metties1 says:

and then Kenny Rogers walked in a run…

  294. i was at that game, mets were down 8-1 in the 8th and scored ten runs capped by Piazza’s home run…dont count on seeing that today though.
