True enough. Though, the consistency with the Mets has been...consistently mediocre and below expectations.

Frankly, no team really scares me in this division. Not the Phils. Not the Braves nor the fish. Certainly not the Gnats.

Well, one team scares me in this division....the NY Mets. They are the worst enemy of our beloved NY Mets. I hate those guys.

That whole school system excuse was such a crock. Sure, the NYC schools stink for the most part (sorry, Jova). But the Hamptons had the cash to affor great private schools. The NY are has some of the nation;s best private day schools. Meanwhile, the Northeast has the best private boarding schools.

If the Hamptons wanted their kids to go to public schools, there are plenty of high-end suburbs close to Shea that have some of the best school systems in the country with union-free, very well paid and high;y trained/excellent teachers (see: Garden City, Great Neck, etc).

That said, I'm glad he used this BS excuse to leave us - it yielded us David Wright via the draft and the guy has been hurt ever since.

Lucky for Smoltz he is a guy. If Smoltz were a woman, Cox would beat her for her discourteousness.

See guys, some teams have got problems like we do. This is why you can't overreact to big wins, or really bad losses (ahem). The name of the game is consistency.

I'm not sure why you're surprised that they may have bargaining chips. Anybody remember the year when guys like McCann, Francoeur, Escobar, and Diaz all came up on fire, and haven't slowed much since? I don't know what their system looks like now, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it's stocked, as it always seems to be.

That's easy. The guy that always gets injured. At least insurance can cover some of the deal.

Hi Guys... Braves Fan here (always feel the need to acknowledge that);

First, Smoltz is a great guy, and a great pitcher; but he really overstepped by coming out in the press and saying he's coming back as a reliever. Even caught Bobby Cox off guard (which is just plain discourteous), not to mention signaling every GM in baseball that we need a starter.

Anyway, Jo-Jo Reyes will step in initially... James still at AAA. Reyes has been dominant at AAA, but so far hasn't been able to "command" his pitches in the majors. He's a pretty good mid-rotation prospect, but is still just 23 and would be better served spending the year at AAA. He's gonna get a chance to step up, though.... we'll see.
