There is no "Myetery" here when speaking of Perez. He is what he is, great somedays and totally useless on others. This is not a new developement, just ask Pittsburgh. It's a shame too because the guy really does have electrifying stuff - when he's on he's the only Mets Pitcher who's capable of throwing a No-Hitter, but when he's off he's a complete disaster. The bad thing about this is that all his problem are in his head, that's much harder to fix than just a simple mechanical problem which you can tweek and correct with Peterson's help. But when the problem lies between the "Ears" that's a much deeper and harder problem to correct, maybe you can't. In my humble opinion, going off last years 15-win season and the fact that he's a left-hander to boot, he's perfect trade bait and we should get something good in return while he's still marketable.
You're right, Ollie Oxen. We don't know what the guys talk about in the clubhouse. Just because a player doesn't open up to the media doesn't mean he's not talking to his teammates. Although I like knowing what the guys are thinking about, it can be good for them to play mum with the media, which is often too ready to jump all over one little statement or mis-statement. As a fan I don't need a good "storyline" in the paper. Just give me some good baseball.

writers have been bashing the Mets because of the lack of veteran leadership, then Wags comes out and tells like it is with Perez, and now he's the bad guy?

It seems like they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Come on now. This guy has all the talent in the world and he's a lefty, but he doesn't approach every game as if he's facing the Braves. This guy has never been clutch for his team. Following an 11 inning game, where almost every guy from the bullpen saw action, and facing his old team, you would figure that Ollie could muster just a little bit of something to get him through 2 innings. NOPE, he cannot come up clutch when the team needs him to have a good outing or eat up some innings. Call it lack of concentration, or motivation, or attention, whatever it is this guy doesn't have it. It's a shame we can't trade him....

I'm glad Perez thinks he;s been "good lately" - although I wonder what part of being unable to lock down a 3-0 lead against the Nationals qualifies as "good."

I can't wait until Wagner's contract is up. This whole "I know everything" act is becoming overdone. If you have something to say, or some positive reinforcement, got to the player with it. Why are you talking to him through the media? It's just stupid.

I am one of the biggest ollie fans out there - heck I even have the oliverperezfan site on bl0gspo0t.

A few things I have noticed after watching almost all of his starts ... He gives up so many unearned runs and the defense crumbles around him because the team gets lacidaisical when he pitches. The guys on the radio were talking about it right before the Castillo error. The fielders were taking their gloves off between pitches and losing focus. His effectively wild and great stuff make the fielders think that no one is going to hit it. They think strikeout or walk on every pitch.

Also when he doesn't get the corners or the low strikes from the ump he goes up in the zone and misses there too, or he gets hammered.

Last time out he got hit in the hand on a line drive he tried to field. I dont think he has been effective since. Could he be injured? When you barehand a hard liner with your pitching hand it cant help your grip.

Not to be talking about race or nationality - but I have also noticed he pitches better with more command when it is warm. Last year he blew up at the start of the season vs. SF when it was cold and windy too. Could this be part of the growing up in Mexico and the heat?

Lets hope that Pedro and Johan work with him, and he calms down and shows what we all know he is capable of. I wonder if their as a sports psycologist that he could see to put it all together,

I was wondering what was bothering me about this and the thought came to to me that could not Wagner have taken Perez to the side and given him this talk? That is what REAL team leaders do, not diss and 'hate on their teamates to the press or leave punk a$$ notes on their lockers and not man up to doing it.

So the time he was throwing his second inning, if the game had started on time, he would have been pitching his fifth inning. Well thats when he usually implodes anyway. Guess his internal clock didnt get the time change memo.
