Health: Alou and Schneider and Arizona
By Matthew Cerrone - May 2, 2008 7:17 am

…the word from shea suggests that Mets OF Moises Alou will travel to Arizona in hopes of playing for the Mets this weekend…the key to his return may be the state of Brian Schneider, who missed the last few games after being hospitalized with an infected thumb…

…if schneider is unable to play, the Mets will likely keep Gustavo Molina on the 25–man roster, and replace alou with schneider on the disabled list retro’d back to last week – meaning schneider will not return to action for another seven days or so…or, they can just replace molina with alou now, assuming schneider is ready…

I don’t know, I still feel better with Pagan in the outfield.

have you seen pagan in the field especially in the last series against the phillies?

      no thanks, i’ll take endy.

No way we DL Schneider now.

      Why not?

he’d be retroactive to last Monday, when the Mets played the Cubs. He’d be eligible to come off by Monday the 5th of May, which shouldn’t be an issue if he isn’t able to play the series in Arizona.

    You will love Alou’s bat.

I love Alou’s bat. Beltran will finally have a competent hitter behind him. Alou’s presence will benefit the entire order. Think of it this way - Ryan Church, a decent 5 hitter, will move to the 6-hole. This will be an upgrade of epic proportions over Delgado, who will slide to the 7-hole. I think we can all agree that Delgado’s woes will be less worrisome out of the 7-hole than they were out of the 5-hole. Unfortunately, it looks as though Luis Castillo will remain in the 2-hole. Hopefully he can keep it together and stay on the field.

That being said, I’d still like to see Endy get more playing time than Pagan as the 4th outfielder/defensive replacement. He is such a better outfielder, hands down. I also like his approach at the plate. Not taking anything away from Pagan who was crucial in a few wins this year, but Endy should stay if one has to go.

For some reason, I can’t see Willy moving Delgado to the 7-hole. I would bet Willy puts Church there as irrational as that might be. Could be wrong though.

Delgado is a veteran. Church is young. Therefore, Delgado is better than Church. You have to earn it. Not with your play on the field. By aging. Because that’s how you get better. Why do people have such a hard time with Willie’s logic??

          So 1+1 does equal 3 !!! LOL.

Let’s not count our chickens before they hatch. Alou still has to make it through BP and stretching, not to mention the long journey out west. I mean, come on. What if there are stairs??

    • mr.gee21 says:

These days, I am fairly certain all stadiums provide wheelchair access. So he should make it to the field, no problem.

Haha, good point. I wonder what Keith is gonna say when he spies Alou’s nurse in the dugout…

    • mrose says:

i’m pretty sure he would have at least made it to Arizona already….

      The others….good point
