Read: Serby’s Q&A with Wagner (with video)

In the New York Post, Steve Serby talks with Billy Wagner, who says there is a 99 percent chance he does not pitch after next season.

Serby also talks with Wagner about his kids; whether Mets fans should expect a Championship; curtain calls; Hank Steinbrenner vs. Jeff Wilpon; stealing candy; and whether Shea’s fans compare to Philadelphia’s, which he says:

“I would never say that New York fans are anything near a Phillies fan. I think the difference with the Met fan is the expectation that we have. We have an All-Star team that when you’re [14-12] doesn’t look very good. They expect better. But they’re very passionate. They want you to win. They can boo you today, and you can walk out there tonight and they’ll cheer you. In other places, you can do well and they still boo you. You get a lot of the boos from the people that come to 10-15 games a year, and they’re spending their hard-earned money to watch a game, and when things don’t go their way, they’re upset, they’re frustrated.”

Now that Juilo Franco has officially retired, I would like to see the Mets hire him as a coach. I believe one of the key losses this team has suffered has been the loss of Franco’s presence in the dugout/clubhouse. Since he left midway through last season, the team has never been the same. I couldn’t stand watching him pinch hit, but he was a positive influence on Reyes, Beltran, Perez, and the rest of the young players. Everyone RESPECTED Franco. In my opinion, its very arguable whether or not they respect Randolph.

BRING BACK FRANCO, BRING BACK THE SPARK!!!!

I don’t think that would be a bad idea. How can you NOT respect Franco? If you were able to be employed at the age of 49-50, as a player, you have GOT to be doing something right.

But, what would you hire him as? A Motivational speaker? But if there is a position open, give him the job.

        “Motivational speaker?”

Heh. Como se dice “living in a van down by the river?”

Well… you’re gonna have plenty of time to live in a van down by the river when… you’re living in a van down by the river.
