Serby also talks with Wagner about his kids; whether Mets fans should expect a Championship; curtain calls; Hank Steinbrenner vs. Jeff Wilpon; stealing candy; and whether Shea’s fans compare to Philadelphia’s, which he says:
“I would never say that New York fans are anything near a Phillies fan. I think the difference with the Met fan is the expectation that we have. We have an All-Star team that when you’re [14-12] doesn’t look very good. They expect better. But they’re very passionate. They want you to win. They can boo you today, and you can walk out there tonight and they’ll cheer you. In other places, you can do well and they still boo you. You get a lot of the boos from the people that come to 10-15 games a year, and they’re spending their hard-earned money to watch a game, and when things don’t go their way, they’re upset, they’re frustrated.”
