According to John Delcos of the
Journal News, the Mets are discussing whether to sign reliever Derrick Turnbow, who was recently designated for assignment by the Brewers.
Turnbow, an All-Star in 2006, is 0-1 with a 15.63 ERA in eight games this season.
By the way, keep an eye on Delcos’s blog for the Journal News before and after every game for news and notes about the Mets.

The way the NO bullpen got abused this past weekend they could use the help. I’m not sure he’s a AAA pitcher off the juice though.
But could he handle the Mets big city ways?
squeal like a pig!!
Depth is Depth, I think this would be a good pick up for the Mets..On a minor league contract of course
worth a shot…
No thanks.
Wasn’t one Guillermo Mota enough?
Might as well…maybe we can get him back on the juice to give us a little solid run a la Mota 2006. Then Omar will give him two years despite a steroid suspension and Willie will run him out there in high leverage situations repeatedly.
/misses Bobby V
read my mind kookie
Oh please dear God no!!!
Slap Shot was a great movie and all, but I would like to keep my memories of the Hanson Brothers contained to the silver screen and not the mound at Shea.
Minor league deals are always worth the risk and reward i guess. But we cant even fit Wise onto the roster right now, plus we also got Muniz sitting in AAA
That wasnt even remotely funny.
We are burning bullpen innings at a really high rate. Mets and Washington have the most bullpen innings in the majors. Turnbow likely is finished but no harm in signing him to a minor league contract because at the rate we use our bullpen we are going to need help later on…even if it means guys being thrown in ads cannon fodder in blowouts, ala Sele.
I’m not one of those nutso Fire Willie guys but I am not a fan of the way he uses the pen and burns reliever innings. I was especially ticked at his use of Sanchez on Saturday.
yeah but this is also why i just don’t trust willie (and omar) with bad pitchers – they always find their way to the mound when it counts.
We already have a problem making room for Wise, Turnbow sounds like a bad idea…
It really is worth it. And if there is an injury then you dip into the minors. If you can’t turn him around then you let him go a-la Danny Graves.
sign the guy. ask questions later. we need a power arm in the bullpen.
“sign the guy. ask questions later. we need a power arm in the bullpen.”
Exactly. When you have a guy who throws in the mid to upper 90’s, who is struggling with control, and Rick Peterson is your pitching coach, you sign the guy. This is what Rick Peterson gets paid to do. Its funny how people dont realize this yet. No risk here.
Dont you mean Dan Warthen? He’s the pitching coach at New Orleans. I mean, thats probably where he will be reporting if the Mets sign him. I’m sure Rick will see some video but it will be Dan working with him.
I think Peterson is just a tad bit overrated, dont you think? I think we give him too much credit…I like him and all, but I don’t view him as the all-knowing guru that he seems to be…although it would be interesting to see him and Zito reunited…on SF’s dime of course
A move like this just transfers focus from other arms that probably deserve major league time more then Turnbow. He is a washed up Steroid/HGH abuser. Why bother? There are guys like Carlos Muniz who will have to wait until after Turnbow flops on the major league level to get a shot. Look from within Omar!
minor league deal, not alot of $
i guess y not ….
sorry mex84, your argument about hindering the progress of the great Carlos Muniz doesnt move me hehe j/k
Muniz was just to serve as an example. I guess I am just sick of seeing all these castoffs over the years who come in and bomb, while letting guys go from our sytem that flourish elsewhere. I am just not a big Turnbow fan. He is a righthanded Schoenweiss, downside of career HGH/ROID abuser. Waste of time.
If it frees up a spot in AAA so we don’t have to rush Eddie Kunz or whoever, do it. However, I don’t to see him near the 25-man roster unless we’re decimated by injuries.
