Buzz: Vicente Padilla is not Johan Santana
By Matthew Cerrone - May 5, 2008 7:59 pm

According to Peter Gammons at ESPN.com, the Rangers wanted Aaron Heilman, Mike Pelfrey and Deolis Guerra from the Mets this past off-season in exchange for RHP Vicente Padilla.

…i’m going to pretend i didn’t write that…

…it’s much safer that way

rangers shoulda thrown in a ham sandwich, bag chips, and a juice. then they woulda had a deal.

    • irishchris87 says:

      …Vincente Padilla is a ham sandwich…

    • QnsNative718 says:

Hey how bout Santana for Padilla straight up? You think the Rangers would still want Pelfrey thrown in too??? Gee golly I hope not…

  2. bvaz says:

does giving them heilman make it a somewhat fair trade?

sorry for the bad humor, but that post was worthy of it.

  3. guierllNO MOta says:

I think this actually shows how little value our “prospects” were worth to most teams and accept that the Twins were desperate and we were very very lucky….I heart Johan and the twins front office staff who clearly should be fired.

    • wipron says:

On the other hand, Carlos Gomez is the most exciting player I’ve seen in quite sometime. Johan had to/wanted to go, so bye! I believe Gomez has won at least as many games for the Twins as Johan has won for the Mets. Twins very seldom make bad trades. There are also three pitchers to consider too. So, while I’m glad you’re happy with Johan, don’t be too smug on this trade just yet. I think in the end, YOU may be surprised who gets the better of this trade!!

      • kandiman says:

Pssst this trade is already completed, you can stop the mets front office spin-a-rama now.

        • wipron says:

          WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
Mets front office spin-o-rama? I’m from MN, was and am happy with the trade. Spin on that!! Some of you New York people are over your own heads I think.

        • wipron says:

Just had to add that GOMEZ hit for the cycle tonight. May 7th. 1st Twin to do so since Kirby Puckett in 1986. Thanks again for that front office spin-o-rama! Hows FMart doin’ again?

  4. the Straw says:

This is part of the reason the Rangers are currently the worst organization in the Major Leagues.

    Worsehan KC-yes.
    Worse than Pitts-yes.

This team traded away Chris Young, Eddy Volquez, Mark Teixera, Alfonso Soriano…and many other good young pitchers that I cant think of.

    • ravi3 says:

dude…I’m sorry but that is an AWFUL analysis….Tex and Soriano had to go…they were both in their walk years (Tex was under contract for a season and a half, and the Rangers were outta contention anyway). The deal that sent the Reds Eddie Volquez netted them Josh Hamilton, who is the AL Player for the Month of April. Only the Chris Young move was a terrible deal for them.

Every team has given up a few superstars….at least recognize the context in which such a deal was made.

  5. njmatt says:

I bet Jim Duquette makes that trade in a heartbeat.

    • Metdamage says:

LOL. I thought the same. Jon Daniels probably got ribbed by 28 other GM’s once Minaya sent that bit of info to his buddies.

  6. the Straw says:

Oh and dont forget they also traded Travis Hafner.

And they traded Adrien Gonzalez as part of the Chris Young trade….two mistakes for the price of one.

  7. Andrew says:

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHA.

Maybe we should have thrown in Reyes and Wright, just to even that deal out.

  8. Gina says:

This is the same team that gave up a major league ready ace pitching prospect for one outfielder, albiet a good one, someone in their front office must be on drugs.

    • jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Don’t tell Hamilton about that or he’ll barge right in there and ask for some.

      • jws366 says:

Not funny. A heroin addiction is nothing to laugh at. Power to him for having the will power to overcome it…

        • Midtown says:

Hamilton is a great story, but nobody forced him to start taking heroin. To think he deserves any amount of respect from anybody is a bit ridiculous. The guy almost threw away millions of dollars and the chance to live a dream for drugs. Glad he overcame it, but I have no pity.

  9. Mingo says:

They should have waited until we got Santana. Then they could have had Santana and Heilman and Pelfrey for Padilla.

  10. check out my mets blog

  11. Midtown says:

    HAHAHAAHAHA

  12. riggs says:

Isn’t George Bush running the Rangers? Doesn’t that explain things??

    • zer09 says:

      best comment by far…well done
where’s points guy? you deserve some recognition lol

you said that already didn’t you? it’s ok to promote once but don’t spam…

  14. sorry i didnt mean to write it on this site, i had 2 boxes open. Im not that annoying

    • zer09 says:

It’s no problem. Here’s some immediate feedback: the bright orange backdrop is hurting my eyes. Even so that I had to click away after 20 seconds of looking at it. I’m sure I’m not the only one…

  15. cousinrk says:

I would’ve traded Mo Vaughn and Kevin Appier for Padilla – Steve Phillips.

  16. be honest what was wrong with it other than the orange

    • scoop says:

simple grammar things…maybe i’m the only one, but things like that seem unprofessional, and i usually become uninterested after that

      • zer09 says:

There’s also nothing (other than the color) about it that says “Mets”. It needs to be populated with some graphics or other front page info that relates to the team (standings, stats, schedule, etc)….
Aside from that, the setup looks very “metsbloggish”….

  17. mr_met says:

everything is big in texas. like their balls

  18. something went wrong with my comp, so everything got screwed up, other than that anything else? and your totally right about the grammar

  19. i started it a week ago, so i’ll add graphics, and what do you mean about the thread?

    • zer09 says:

i meant the setup itself looks similar to metsblog….nevermind….
      promote it when it’s ready…

      • curiosity are you jimmy?, and you interested in being a writer?

        • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

          Problems:

          1. Clashing, dull colors. It looks like it tries to appeal to people colorfully yet it’s depressing. At this site for example, the colors perfectly reflect what the blog is about, and the banner at the top gives some nostalgia. At FJM, there is no color, so the focus is solely on the words and there is little dull color, because there’s little color.

          2. Originality. You copy the stylings of MetsBlog and Hot Foot too much. You highlight player’s names and give little opinions. This is too similar to readers, who will get bored and just go to the sites you are copying. Try just writing in a newspaper-like format. It’s a much more universal style.

          3. The classic pre-college mistake of show-don’t-tell. Don’t interject and give a 3 sentence opinion. Use the language like Deadspin or even Bissinger does. Just don’t be a Plaschke.

  20. RetireNumber17 says:

I just checked-out ol’ Vinny Pecadillo on Baseball-Referenece.com and saw he was part of the package that went to the Phils for Schilling. The rest: Omar Daal, Travis Lee, and…wait, get ready for it…Nelson Figueroa. I wouldn’t trade Figgy straight up for Pecadillo now, especially since Vin’s making in the neighborhood of $9 mil.

  21. Koko says:

Hey I mentioned this in the Franco post. Do I get credit?

Anyway maybe the Rangers will take Heilman and Sosa for Josh Hamilton. They seem high on these guys. We can thrown in Casonova too.
