Armas won a career high 12 games in 2002, and won 9 in 2006. Baseball-reference dot com is a beautiful thing.

personally i cant think of anything to get excited about a guy whose career #'s are probably 20 games under 500. in montreal he showed flashes of having potential, but how many years ago was that - 6 ?? i am willing to bet he has never won 14-15 games. a pitcher who is around 35 yrs old with past arm issues and very limited success just doesnt look like a likely solution. sosa probably has had more moments of success during the last 3 years. (i couldnt find armas' stats on yahoo, i assume b/c he is not on the roster

Like a hitting coach, there is only so much a pitching coach can do. He can teach him proper mechanics, tweak his repertoire, and give him encouraging advice. However, it's up to the player to execute his pitches. I don't think Peterson could fix Perez's mental state. When he came over from the Pirates, he was a mechanical wreck so it's not like he needed a change in mindset like he does now.

The Jacket? I don't know what he fixes or how he fixes things so I don't know how to judge his ability. I guess one way is to see how he is impactimng on the younger staff BUT...young pitchers are more typically not rock steady.

One thing I have a gut feeling about is that Perez has a fried brain this year (contract?) and that Pelf will be an awesome pitcher by mid season. Perez I don't care much for but I hope they never get rid of Pelfrey.

I don't really see the advantage, It leads to Wright and Alou being consecutive righties.

Also, beltran did well in the cleanup spot last year, and wright did great batting 3rd.

For the sake of shaking things up, it could work. But I think we need another week or two with the current lineup before we can really conclude that shaking is necessary.
