In a rehab start for Single-A St. Lucie, Ramon Castro hit a two-run home run and caught all nine innings.
Meanwhile, Matt Wise is scheduled to pitch back-to-back days this week for St. Lucie, which is said to be his final step in his rehab from a sore right forearm.
…i expect to see both of these players back with the Mets by the weekend…of course, that will mean a corresponding move in the bullpen, such as demoting Joe Smith or designating Jorge Sosa for assignment…
Tagged Ramon Castro |During last night’s loss to the Dodgers, Oliver Perez allowed five runs and three home runs in six innings pitched, while walking just two and striking out three.
Willie Randolph, on Perez, following the game:
“I thought his line was good. He kept us relatively in the game after a shaky a start and kind of settled in
a bit. But, you know, the gopher balls hurt him a bit…but, I thought he pitched pretty well, for the most part.”
…perez is the easy scapegoat for last night’s loss…however, he did fine through the first four innings, during which the Mets offense left five runners on base all while Dodgers RHP Chad Billingsley looked to be on the ropes – especially in the second…each time, the Mets bats let him off the hook…
…then perez let up two more home runs, and that was that, as the Mets never really threatened offensively from that point on…
Asked by a reporter if he is concerned that Perez has been unable to build up momentum, Randolph said:
Tagged Oliver Perez |“Well, again, it’s early as far as pitching is concerned. He’s in my rotation and will stay there until it’s deemed that we need to make a change. But, right now, he’s fine. He just needs to keep working. We’ll keep putting him out there until he gets more consistent.”
The Mets (16–14) lost to the Dodgers (18–14) by the score of 5 to 1 in Los Angeles tonight.

…much like the other day in Arizona, when it 
was obvious the Mets would win following a lead-off triple from Jose Reyes, tonight, i could feel a bad night in the works following a lead-off home run from Rafael Furcal off of Oliver Perez…
…what’s worse, oliver had furcal down in the count, but, instead of slamming a breaking ball in to the dirt as Brian Schneider requested, he grooved a floater right down the center of the plate, which furcal hit over the wall using only power from his front leg…
…to add insult to injury, or, actually, injury to insult, perez was then hit in the stomach with a line drive…i know the feeling, o.p…i know it all too well…
…sadly, you could have changed the game at this point…
……Luis Castillo grounded out in each of his first two at bats, while stranding two runners in each of those at bats…oh, Slappy McSingleton, where are you…
…i have no idea why Sandy Alomar Sr. chose to hold Carlos Beltran at third, after having run from first on a ball hit deep in the left-field corner by Carlos Delgado…he would have scored…what’s worse, there was one out and the bottom of the order coming up…i don’t get it…later in the game, beltran was waved in by sandy and he stopped, settling for a triple instead of a possible in-the-park home run…of course, he eventually scored any way on a single by Moises Alou…
…to his credit, perez settled in after his first inning, that is until he allowed a two-run home run to Matt Kemp in the fifth…he not only looks to be giving up on hitters, and using inconsistent mechanics, he looks depressed – as opposed to his usual stoicism…
…Jose Reyes, Ryan Church, David Wright and Carlos Beltran were hitless in the first 15 plate appearances spanning the first five innings…
…on the plus side, Scott Schoeneweis and Jorge Sosa each pitched a scoreless inning…in a loss…figures…
The Mets continue their three-game set with the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
