“This is first career starts versus the Mets.”

How many times was that a bad sign last year?

My gut says today Nelson has a rough outing, but works himself out of trouble at least once and keeps us in the game, but it will be close.

I feel like Figgy will give us a really good start, but as ness said, the fact that the Mets have never faced Kuroda probably means they will make him look like Cy Young himself. This cold be a low scoring close game that gets decided in the bullpen….

Cy Young’s overrated. Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson were better.

You’re 50% right. Walter Johnson was better than Cy Young. But Christy Mathewson wasn’t. However, Lefty Grove and Pete Alexander were better than Cy Young.

Well, I sure hope Figgy isn’t throw off by the insane suggestion that he might be sent to AAA. What an absurd idea.

To make room for Wise, sending down Smith or DFAing Sosa requires one move. In and out. Sending down Figgy would require moving Wise in and also sending Sosa into the rotation (shudder).

I can only hope the “Mets Insider” with this idea was…lying.

I dont know why u would send a guy down to AAA when he has pitched successfully and seems to have his head on straight, when you have a young guy in Pelfrey who cant seem to get through the 5th inning, and could use the extra seasoning in the minors.

Agree 100%! Figgy has pitched very well always keeps his team close enough to win. You can tell the guy knows waht he’s doing out there on the mound. Pelfrey sometimes looks like a “Deer Caught in headlights” out there. He might be the future (and I’m seriously starting to doubt it - Paul wilson/Pullsipher? ) but Figgy can help this team NOW.

I don’t know why you would send down a starter, period, when a reliever is coming off the DL. At this point I would rather them send Pagan down and try him at 1B than send down Figgy.

Send down Smith if you are scared of losing Sosa on waivers. Personally, I could care less if we lose Sosa, but I understand that his innings would need to be picked up somewhere (Armas?).

1. Cant send down Pagan…it would leave the bench short a player. They need a backup catcher plus 4 other bench players.

2. I agree it doesnt make much sense to move sosa into the rotation, he hasnt even done a good job as the long man.

3. I dont see what the big deal is of getting rid of sosa. Hes just a long man. Heilman could become the long-man for the time being as he tries to find his stuff. he can pitch multiple innings. and let wise pick up heilmans 7th inning tasks.

I agree, I was only offering Pagan as a “better than Figgy” option. Anyway, aren’t we still carrying Casanova?

yes but we need a backup catcher…casanova is here until castro comes back.

Right…what am I missing? As long as we have Casanova or Castro, we will have a backup catcher. In my (silly) example, it was carry an extra RP, short one bench (non-C) guy.

Aside: Phils are sitting Howard today and playing Utley at 1B. Interesting.

why is everyone getting so excited about wise anyway. he may not be better than anyone in our pen. i mean, potentially, things could get worse. the only way things will be better is if sosa is gone. either way, we really don’t KNOW how wise is going to be in the long run. i’ve never seen him to be super exciting.

They are facing Randy johnson. Thats why Howard sits. For some reason when they sit howard, they move utley over. I guess they feel like its a way to give utley somewhat of a rest.

Mets need to start getting their Sh*t together right now. The Phillies are playing pretty good ball, and they dont even have Rollins healthy.

Can we PLEASE get a good game tonight. Too often it’s come out flat, fall behind early and pack it in by the 6th.

COME ON BOYS–> Work the count, string hits together, and play with a sense of urgency.

I’m staying up late tonight, I just hope there’s something worth watching!

I’m pretty sure SOMEONE could considering Matt works for the same people he does lol. But I know hes only contracted to work so many games (I believe its just over 100, its the same # as last year i believe). Keith also doesn’t like to go on the road and since the mets have been away a lot, I’m just guessing but i figure he thought this would be a good time to block off on his calender. Since hes not doing many games to start off the year it just means he will be doing more later on.
