The Game:

The Mets (16-14) continue their three-games series versus the Dodgers (18-14) tonight at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, game at 10:10 pm EST.

The Lineup:

The Pitchers:

RHP Nelson Figueroa (2-1, 4.08 ERA) makes his fourth start for the Mets. In his last start on April 27 versus the Braves, Figueroa earned a win allowing three runs on seven hits over 5.1 IP while walking and striking out three. Figueroa’s .143 BAA through the first time of the lineup is the ninth lowest in the National League. In two career starts versus the Dodgers, he is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA.

RHP Hiroki Kuroda (1-2, 3.82 ERA) takes the hill for the Dodgers. In his last start on May 1 versus the Marlins, Kuroda allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four over 7.0 IP earning a win. Kuroda is 0-0 with a 6.00 in his two home starts this season. Opponents are 0-for-18 with four strikeouts off Kuroda in the first inning. This is his first career starts versus the Mets.

The Notes:

“This is first career starts versus the Mets.”

How many times was that a bad sign last year?

  2. NPerez says:

My gut says today Nelson has a rough outing, but works himself out of trouble at least once and keeps us in the game, but it will be close.

  3. the Straw says:

I feel like Figgy will give us a really good start, but as ness said, the fact that the Mets have never faced Kuroda probably means they will make him look like Cy Young himself. This cold be a low scoring close game that gets decided in the bullpen….
    Buckle up
    and getcha popcorn

    • gomets6091 says:

Cy Young’s overrated. Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson were better.

      • ness589 says:

You’re 50% right. Walter Johnson was better than Cy Young. But Christy Mathewson wasn’t. However, Lefty Grove and Pete Alexander were better than Cy Young.

  4. backinbusiness says:

Well, I sure hope Figgy isn’t throw off by the insane suggestion that he might be sent to AAA. What an absurd idea.

To make room for Wise, sending down Smith or DFAing Sosa requires one move. In and out. Sending down Figgy would require moving Wise in and also sending Sosa into the rotation (shudder).

I can only hope the “Mets Insider” with this idea was…lying.

  5. the Straw says:

I dont know why u would send a guy down to AAA when he has pitched successfully and seems to have his head on straight, when you have a young guy in Pelfrey who cant seem to get through the 5th inning, and could use the extra seasoning in the minors.

    • pgiro says:

Agree 100%! Figgy has pitched very well always keeps his team close enough to win. You can tell the guy knows waht he’s doing out there on the mound. Pelfrey sometimes looks like a “Deer Caught in headlights” out there. He might be the future (and I’m seriously starting to doubt it – Paul wilson/Pullsipher? ) but Figgy can help this team NOW.

    • backinbusiness says:

I don’t know why you would send down a starter, period, when a reliever is coming off the DL. At this point I would rather them send Pagan down and try him at 1B than send down Figgy.

Send down Smith if you are scared of losing Sosa on waivers. Personally, I could care less if we lose Sosa, but I understand that his innings would need to be picked up somewhere (Armas?).

  6. the Straw says:

    1. Cant send down Pagan…it would leave the bench short a player. They need a backup catcher plus 4 other bench players.

    2. I agree it doesnt make much sense to move sosa into the rotation, he hasnt even done a good job as the long man.

    3. I dont see what the big deal is of getting rid of sosa. Hes just a long man. Heilman could become the long-man for the time being as he tries to find his stuff. he can pitch multiple innings. and let wise pick up heilmans 7th inning tasks.

    • backinbusiness says:

I agree, I was only offering Pagan as a “better than Figgy” option. Anyway, aren’t we still carrying Casanova?

      • the Straw says:

yes but we need a backup catcher…casanova is here until castro comes back.

        • backinbusiness says:

Right…what am I missing? As long as we have Casanova or Castro, we will have a backup catcher. In my (silly) example, it was carry an extra RP, short one bench (non-C) guy.

Aside: Phils are sitting Howard today and playing Utley at 1B. Interesting.

    • miker94 says:

why is everyone getting so excited about wise anyway. he may not be better than anyone in our pen. i mean, potentially, things could get worse. the only way things will be better is if sosa is gone. either way, we really don’t KNOW how wise is going to be in the long run. i’ve never seen him to be super exciting.

  7. the Straw says:

They are facing Randy johnson. Thats why Howard sits. For some reason when they sit howard, they move utley over. I guess they feel like its a way to give utley somewhat of a rest.

  8. ccmetfan says:

Nelson hasn’t pitched yet with Schneider, this should be interesting

  9. housethatchurchbuilt says:

Hopefully I stay up tonight for the game and its worth being dead tomorrow morning.

  10. the Straw says:

Mets need to start getting their Sh*t together right now. The Phillies are playing pretty good ball, and they dont even have Rollins healthy.

  11. Slappy McSingleton says:

Hey Matt! Its your buddy Slappy McSingleton!!! Hope I can grab an infield hit or two, maybe get on base with an error!!! Whhheeeeeeeeeeee !!! Slappy McSingleton!!!!!!

  12. mattygreen says:

Can we PLEASE get a good game tonight. Too often it’s come out flat, fall behind early and pack it in by the 6th.

COME ON BOYS–> Work the count, string hits together, and play with a sense of urgency.

I’m staying up late tonight, I just hope there’s something worth watching!

  13. the Straw says:

Agreed…cos last night sure as hell wasnt worth it.

  14. Slappy McSingleton says:

    N. Figz !!

  15. zen says:

the power of christ compels you!

  16. housethatchurchbuilt says:

oh weird shea stadium isnt the only place the home team gets booed btw nice goin church

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Yeah, from time to time it happens in 29 other parks. And not as often at Shea as you think it does.

      Imagine that.

  17. gometzies_18 says:

    Ryan F’in Church Baby!

    • Joshbox says:

can anyone tell me why Keith Hernandez hasnt been doing games?

      • metrokard says:

i think hes still on vacation

      • Maddogcf says:

I’m pretty sure SOMEONE could considering Matt works for the same people he does lol. But I know hes only contracted to work so many games (I believe its just over 100, its the same # as last year i believe). Keith also doesn’t like to go on the road and since the mets have been away a lot, I’m just guessing but i figure he thought this would be a good time to block off on his calender. Since hes not doing many games to start off the year it just means he will be doing more later on.

  18. mattygreen says:

    CHUUUUUUUUUUUURCH

  19. jose--jose-jose-jose says:

Wow, Andruw has lost a step.

  20. backinbusiness says:

    Huh? Alou 4? Oh, Moiseeees.

  21. casey s. says:

    beltran’s a late scratch…here we go.

  22. HITorDIE25 says:

    whats the deal with beltran?

  23. Joshbox says:

    thanks..thats a long vacation

  24. Watching Sandy Alomar Jr. in that replay of him waving in Beltran last night made me think that his job could be done by one of those waving inflatable arm flailing tube men that you sometimes see outside of stores and businesses.

  25. housethatchurchbuilt says:

hahaha i love ronnie in those commercials

  26. the Straw says:

    Anyone watching on MLB.Com?
I know Vin Scully is like a legendary announcer and all….but I cant stand him. All fluff, no analysis.

    Between innings Poll:

Who likes listening to Scully call a game?

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Wish I could listen to him now. He’s the best.

      • mattygreen says:

i used to live in LA and i like scully too, obv he’s a legend… but he calls games on TV as if it’s radio– he never takes a breath and describes every detail plain to see on the screen.

again, he’s the best, but it’s a little distracting.

        • gipper91375 says:

Um, he IS on radio in the first three innings, he is simulcast as the radio announcer for the Dodgers.

        • mattygreen says:

hm, i stand corrected. i wonder if he gets more general when they switched over. i never noticed whether he gets more general after the 3rd.

incidentally, that’s a pretty crappy system.

        • gipper91375 says:

He does get more TV-ish after the third. I would be the first to say he is aging and forgetting ertain things. I just respect teh heck out of a guy who does the job as well as he does at his advanced age.

Plus, as I said, it is a huge upgrade over the putrid announcers for the Fish, Nats, and D-bags.

    • DavidDog says:

i enjoy him for about 2 innings. then i miss gary and ron

    • Ryanesq1 says:

This is the first out of town announcer that I haven’t had to mute. I like Scully

    • casey s. says:

vin scully is a broadcasting god…

    • SantanaCYYOung says:

love sculy: “the ball gets by buckner, and the mets win it!”

beltran not in line up, sny does not know why

      • gomets6091 says:

If one picture is worth a thousand words, you’ve just seen about a million words

    • gomets6091 says:

      I do

    • darkstar73 says:

      scully is the man

      • gipper91375 says:

Scully is a huge breath of fresh air after all the horrid announcers for the Fish, Gnats, D-bags, etc.

Pretty remarkable he does it alone, at nearly 81 years old AND does both the TV and is simulcast on radio in the first few innings.

  27. twassel says:

    First pitch strike. How refreshing.

  28. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Hopefully with Beltran is it just something minor and maybe this rest will get him going.

Wow Gavin Floyd as a no hitter throught 8

    • gipper91375 says:

Actually, i konda hope Beltrran is injured, as that could explain his putirid start. But, obviously, let’s hope it doesn’t sideline him long.

  29. I love that Ryan CHURCH has a SOUL patch style of facial hair.

  30. backinbusiness says:

Well, Pagan is in CF…what’s the deal??

I love listening to Scully, personally.

  31. Dirtysanchez says:

hey whats going on in the game. Extra Innings still got the yankees game on………

  32. backinbusiness says:

I love how Figgy’s shaking off a pitch is a full-headed “NO” like a 4 year old would.

    I just love Figgy.

  33. SantanaCYYOung says:

question guys: what is the largest deficit the mets have come back from to win a game?? (i don’t know the answer)

  34. No way walking Andruw Jones doesn’t come back to hurt Figgy.

  35. Dirtysanchez says:

    cmon figgy…

  36. Dirtysanchez says:

good play wright…….gave figz another chance to get outta here.

  37. ccmetfan says:

Floyd with a no hitter ,top of ninth

  38. I would like to see the Mets’ pitchers actually go after hitters instead of nibbling. Thank you.

  39. mr.gee21 says:

    Phew.

  40. skylog says:

i know it has been said, but having to hear all the ‘morons’ from the other broadcast teams is truly painful, but it as almost worth it to get the chance to hear vince scully for a few games. i am thinking i need to just listen to a few la games every now and again.

    • Dirtysanchez says:

yea this guy has been very nice to listen to
      very knowledgeable and unbiased

      • gipper91375 says:

Huge treat. Reminds me of Murph how he paints the “word picture.” Especially in the first three inns when he is being simulcast on radio.

  41. Dirtysanchez says:

yes thats how you do it…offense give you the lead..hang up a 0

  42. HITorDIE25 says:

    any news on Beltran?

  43. SantanaCYYOung says:

big, big out..can this bottom of the order do something or are we looking at 4 easy outs? (pagan, schneider, 0-forstillo, pitcher)

  44. the Straw says:

Long First inning for Figs….looking like another < 6 inning outing for a Mets starter.

    • CitizenSnips says:

I wish Willie would read up on Figgy having 18 complete games in the Mexican league, sometimes going for 150+ pitches a game.

    • backinbusiness says:

      150 pitches! Free Figgy!

  45. Dirtysanchez says:

    good drag….

  46. SantanaCYYOung says:

that’s what u need 2 do pagan: carlos gomez them to death

  47. MainStMets says:

    nice bunt

  48. Dirtysanchez says:

    nice hit

  49. mr.gee21 says:

Bottom of the order to the rescue?

  50. MainStMets says:

    b side solid

    beltran sick w flu

  51. backinbusiness says:

    Beltran: flu like symptoms.

  52. CitizenSnips says:

Castillo is a “contact hitter”??? Since when?

    • backinbusiness says:

To be fair, he never ever strikes out.

A lot of his contact, at least lately, is…caught.

Or, not, as in right now. Good job.

  53. Dirtysanchez says:

    flu like symptoms……………..
can we order a plastic bubble for beltran tooo

  54. SantanaCYYOung says:

taking bets on a dp by castillo

  55. the Straw says:

Ok Schneider….Beltran has flew that equals a DL stint for him.

You guys for real about Scully? He is awful…he confuses everything….he just said the Mets are behind arizona and florida in the NL east.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Well if you’re right then the rest of the world must be wrong.

    • HITorDIE25 says:

      dont be gay

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

        Um, OK. I’m not.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Or maybe that was meant for the other guy.
          Well, I’m still not :)

        • HITorDIE25 says:

          other guy

        • gipper91375 says:

The guy is nearly 81 years old. He is bound to mix up a name or team now and again. He is talking his head off beacuse the first three inns he is simulcast on both radio and TV. Obviously, needs to talk more for the radio listeners. Mistakes happen to an 81 year old in those situations. Amaing that he does so well, considering!

Did you hear the Fish, Gnats, or D-bag announcers? Now THOSE are horrible announcers. Total homers. Actively root for their team.

Scully is a pro. If I cannot get the SNY feed (best booth in baseball, btw), I will take Scully anyday.

    • miker94 says:

he may be a legend but is hard to listen to. it’s a monotone voice with one LOOOOONG stat that continues from pitch one till the end of the game. this guy never stops. he is like the energizer bunny. guess you have to when you are essentially talking to yourself. i mean, he actually talks about david wrights brothers and what reyes liked to eat back home, etc. the info/stats just never stop. he should just take a breath already

      • gipper91375 says:

Again, he is SIMULCAST on radio. Radio announcers obviously HAVE to talk more.

You’re telling me you prefer the horrid, moronic homers in the Nats, Fish or D-Bags booths?

        • miker94 says:

i know it’s simulcast and i understand that. i’m just stating my opinion so relax buddy. and of course, i’d take scully over just about any other team except sny. just makes me miss cohen that’s all

        • gipper91375 says:

Ok, sorry. Just bitter about th team right now. Frankly, in my opinion the best thing about this series has been Scully, especially after those D-bag announcers.

That said, we are indeed spoiled with the SNY crew.

  56. backinbusiness says:

this, right here, is castillo’s job. can he do it?

  57. huge_mets_fan11 says:

I hate the phase “flu-like symptoms.” You either have the flu or you don’t.

  58. Dirtysanchez says:

    wow slappy comes thru

  59. mr.gee21 says:

    It’s X-mas come early!

  60. MainStMets says:

    yea slappy

now nelson gets figgy with it moves runners up reyes base knock big lead

  61. D-Day says:

    finally castillo gets it done!

    • andyglass1 says:

offense from the 2bm’n ?? let there be dancin in the streets… its Xmas in May. maybe he should swap positions with beltran in the order ? yuk yuk i know

  62. Dirtysanchez says:

cmon figs lets get the fundamentals down here…move em over

  63. jws366 says:

Castillo must have bought some procede.

    • D-Day says:

he only has to use it once every 90 days, hopefully thats not how often he gets a hit!

  64. Dirtysanchez says:

    EVERY ONE SAFE

  65. SantanaCYYOung says:

come on lets blow the game out right here

  66. the Straw says:

    Now we in business!!!

  67. CitizenSnips says:

Did the Mets and the Dodgers switch places?

  68. housethatchurchbuilt says:

this is where the mets have to put teams away, they can break this game open early otherwise its gonna be another nerve racking final 3 innings

  69. MainStMets says:

damn im a fortune teller playa

  70. backinbusiness says:

I bet the players have a smidge more bounce in their step when they’re working behind Figgy. I think that I would. The guy is the ultimate fan–the interviews with him sound like he just won the “pitch for the mets” contest.

    • WrightOnTrack says:

That’s awesome. I love the idea of Figgy being one of us out there.

  71. Dirtysanchez says:

    jose……………. jose jose jose

  72. dwrightisgod says:

omar orchestrate a 3 way trade so kuroda goes to philly please

  73. the Straw says:

    Get your bullpen up Torre.

  74. Dirtysanchez says:

    CMON CHURCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  75. D-Day says:

    bases loaded for church!

  76. mr.gee21 says:

Man, this Church guy is awful. Can we trade him for Milledge?

  77. MainStMets says:

oh well cant get a hit every time hes up

  78. Dirtysanchez says:

    well that sux

  79. SantanaCYYOung says:

    1-2-3 dp, saw it coming

  80. dykstraw says:

    ouch @ that dp

  81. David looks like he doesnt even try to go to right field anymore

  82. CitizenSnips says:

Wright needs a homer right here.

  83. the Straw says:

    Id take a walk…alou will get em…

  84. AlreadyMissShea says:

I’d like to see the Mets break this wide open. Make it a 10-0 game after three. Then I can go to bed early, because this looks like another 2am finish here. :)

    • Dirtysanchez says:

lollll i know what you mean. I was dead at work today lol. Hopefully they can put it away early

  85. I wish our pitchers could work outta trouble like that. Oliver Perez would have given up 27 runs on 4 hits.

    • backinbusiness says:

Um, didn’t Figgy work out of trouble like that about 20 minutes ago?

      • No, bases were loaded with two outs for Fig. This guy had them loaded with no outs and the heart of our order up. Definitely not the same situations.

        • backinbusiness says:

And this guy gave up 3 runs and Figgy gave up 0. It’s not the same situation, but its a battle that we came out on the better part of (for 1 inning, anyhow).

        • Excuse me for not being content with leaving the bases loaded after having them that way with no one out.

        • backinbusiness says:

Mo, I understand what you’re saying and obviously leaving the bases loaded like that sucks. But 3-0 mets after 1 is not something I’m going to get pissed off about.

Surely they’ll give us plenty for that later in the game!

        • gipper91375 says:

          Backinbusiness,

          Drinking much?

They got TWO runs from the bases loaded, no out, heart of order due up…not 3. And they are up 3-0 after 2 inns., not one inn.

Still, you are right that Figgy pitched well to get out of his (less severe) jam.

        • backinbusiness says:

Wow. Shockingly, no. Just exceedingly tired.

I also just had a near-heart attack from an Alou face first slide.

          I apologize.

  86. gomets6091 says:

ugh…bases juiced nobody out with your 2 best hitters coming up and you don’t score. That’s awful

  87. HITorDIE25 says:

    Great execution…same shi*t different day…

  88. the Straw says:

NO KILLER instinct…now the game will stay close and willie will be forced to pitcher everyone in the bullpen.

    • backinbusiness says:

I hope you are being at least somewhat sarcastic. Church and Wright have no killer instinct? Come on. Maybe they just made outs?

      • gipper91375 says:

Silly to say Church and Wright lack killer instinct. Still, this team has a knack of making sure they do not break a game open when given golden chances.

  89. Thee Bruce Dickenson says:

How bad does Wright suck!!!??? I guess Church sucks more hitting into a DP with no outs and no runs.

    • gomets6091 says:

they’re the two worst players in Mets history. Fire them both. Bring in some guys with heart.

  90. the Straw says:

Just the team in general….a good team buries the game right there….this team is struggling right now and throw the dagger.

  91. GG Allin says:

    DeWitt, does … it.

    *Rimshot*

    Chin Lung.. Who?

My goodness I should get paid for my wit.

  92. On a lighter note, is anyone else already sick of this new Verizon commercial with the dad, mom, son, dog, cat, and flea all saying “wow” at the picture quality? Verizon Fios seems to come up with new commercials to beat into our heads. I still have nightmares of last season’s commercial with the little kid and the verizon fios tech who brings fiberoptics straight to your door on three different spectrums of light…

    • backinbusiness says:

Trust me, those three spectrums of…dbhot? or something…are much better than the service of Verizon Fios. Sucks.

    • GG Allin says:

I love seeing how they advertise to baseball fans — high definition TVs and Just For Men/ProCede.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

Yeah, Verizon has the worst commercials and they’re on more than any other ad. That kid was annoying as hell.

      YOU SHOULD SEE HIS TRUCK!

Yeah kid, with you under it.

OK, did I go too far there?
      Hey, it’s just a commercial!

  93. ness589 says:

I’m a bit pessimistic at times, but jeez. Let’s not all jump off the bridge because they didn’t score. They’re still winning at least.

Though I am starting Kuroda on one of my fantasy teams so I might be biased but still.

  94. SantanaCYYOung says:

big hit by pierre, almost forgot what that looked like

  95. the Straw says:

I would love to know the reasoning behind hitting Andruw Jones 2nd and Russell Martin 6th….maybe Torre’s a Mets fan.

  96. SantanaCYYOung says:

its 5 innings and out for figgy today

    • backinbusiness says:

43 pitches, he’s good for 107 more, didn’t you read the article? ;)

    • Nate W. says:

yup, he cant get lefties out for anything either, that builds the pitch count walking those lefties every inning…

So even he cant go deep into games for the Mets. Maybe they should let him 6-7, 120-130 though, he certainly could handle it.

  97. backinbusiness says:

Maybe we should get a 2nd plastic Alou-bubble for Schneider.

  98. the Straw says:

    great hustle….please dont be hurt!

  99. SantanaCYYOung says:

here we go again, bet we don’t score this inning

  100. backinbusiness says:

An Alou face first slide is not something a person with a heart condition should watch.

  101. Dirtysanchez says:

    ALOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  102. SantanaCYYOung says:

    alou ?

  103. AlreadyMissShea says:

Wow, did these two teams exchange uniforms before the game?

  104. twassel says:

    Alou!

  105. MainStMets says:

wow double steal, alou takes home, insanity

  106. HITorDIE25 says:

holly crap alou….!!! Thats the kind of LIFE this team needs. BASEBALL STUFF!!!

  107. the Straw says:

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW

i thought id never see the day

  108. twassel says:

Let’s have some love for Willie, now–aggressive managing!

  109. Koko says:

Damn you Willie for allowing Alou to steal home on the double steal. You should be fired!

  110. MainStMets says:

    its slapppppy time

  111. I_Need_More_Cowbell_Please says:

    WHAT!!!!!

    • andyglass1 says:

was it a failed squeeze; no injury on the play ????????? omg !!!!!!! was our last steal of home by jose or the infamous, Mr Koo ?????????

      • Nate W. says:

Roger Cedeno, of all people, if you mean straight steal

Beltran apparently stole home last year on a double steal of some kind.

  112. stickguy says:

my god, a double steal with old man river stealing home?

Wonder how long he will be out for after this inning! (j/k, I hope!)

  113. dykstraw says:

    that was AWESOME!

  114. MainStMets says:

for whatever reason, this team seems to be better on the west coast

    • mrose says:

      eh
do you remember the first west coast swing last year? I think we lost 2 of 3 to SD followed by a sweep in LA…

but I know what you mean…over the past few years…yea we do seem better out west..AZ for sure

    • gomets6091 says:

maybe they should follow the Dodgers and Giants leads…

  115. the Straw says:

No way willie made that call….Omar made that call from his luxury box.

  116. WrightsRight says:

stating the obvious, but we really, really… really need alou to stay healthy.

  117. GregB says:

    Ya gotta love Moises Alou!

That’s the kind of baseball I want to watch. Hopefully, it’ll rub off on some (all?) of the others.

  118. gipper91375 says:

Scully used “a little roller” to describe Alou’s check swing that DeWitt errored on…..ah, memories.

  119. MainStMets says:

damn slappy is quick down the line, clear the 9 spot

  120. SantanaCYYOung says:

hu is at short for the dodgers?

  121. backinbusiness says:

Moises Alou stealing home. That is truly remarkable. I love it. What’s gotten into Willie? He even cheered!

  122. the Straw says:

Randy Johnson is such a sh!thead. Hes blowing this lead agains the Phillies.

    • mrose says:

      ummm
hes like 80 and the phillies have a good lineup
for some random reason i have him on my fantasy team, have no real need for him, but hes there..
so i’d like him to keep this lead and get me a W

  123. MainStMets says:

    man 3 SBs this inning

figgy gonna draw a walk here

  124. AlreadyMissShea says:

I feel like I’m watching Kaz Ishii.

  125. backinbusiness says:

“They were really worrying about Pagan” — because those Mets are Home Stealers!!!

Maybe Willie is upping his game against Torre.

  126. stickguy says:

Oh, for those keeping count, the Mets had “fire” in the 3rd inning.

Church had it in the 1st, but not the 2nd.

DW is fireless tonight. But of course, that could change later!

  127. Dirtysanchez says:

ok guys good job working the bases
    now the important part
    making it pay off
    lets go reyes

  128. huge_mets_fan11 says:

On a side note, this ump is terrible

  129. MainStMets says:

this is the 2am game folks…1130 EST only in mid of 3

  130. gomets6091 says:

my god, I have never seen a team be so bad with the bases loaded before.

  131. blains2000 says:

The Grand Slam curse continues! When will it end?

  132. gipper91375 says:

I;m a few minutes behind, as a catch up via DVR. Saw comments about double steal……I had to fast forward.

All I have to say is “who is that guy in the dugout with Randolph’s jersey and a Willie-mask on and what have you done with our manager?”

Also, for “Straw” who thinks Scully stinks….Scully saw something was up…he mentioned how Scneid and Pagan were looking at Alomar closely and Alomar said something to Alou.

  133. housethatchurchbuilt says:

ughhhhhhhh game should be over already

  134. Dirtysanchez says:

welp hope that doesn’t come back to haunt us.
at least we worked the hell outta the pitcher…

  135. Nate W. says:

    not so much with Reyes.

Kuroda has thrown 71 pitches in 3 innigs, so they’ll get some crap middle relief to beat up for a few innings. Hopefully the offense doesnt decide to shut down and call it a night.

  136. Arsenal13 says:

    too many LOBs

  137. trippingac says:

This is the story of the whole f****** season. They can’t get the big hit with two outs to bust the game open, and with a pitcher on the ropes. I’m gonna put my head through a f****** wall.

    • gipper91375 says:

Goes back longer than this bleeping season.

Still, gotta love the double steal call by Willie.

Ugh. I said something nice about Willie. I feel dirty. So very dirty.

    • darkstar73 says:

man, if you’re putting your head through the wall when we’re winning, i’m scared to ask what you’re doing when we’re losing!

  138. stickguy says:

this game is starting to seem eerily reminiscent of the Glavine game in LA last year (one of the tries for 300 I think?).

They could have blown this game completely open by now.

HOpe Figgy settles down and starts stringing some zeros.

  139. thechime says:

i’m watching the game online. can someone tell me how that double steal went down?

  140. im sorry, but what the hell is going on with Eric Bruntlett? The guy has another three RBI tonight. Is he performing the Jimmy Rollins voodoo dance or something? Seems like everyone who puts on a Phillies uniform lately has learned how to suddenly hit.

  141. Nate W. says:

Wright in platinum glove form tonight

  142. MainStMets says:

    ole!

  143. Dirtysanchez says:

good play wright at least helping with the glove

  144. cousinrk says:

If Wright can learn to throw to first he might win a Gold Glove some day

  145. miker94 says:

this kid’s glove is just sick!

  146. Dirtysanchez says:

    cmon figs work outta this

  147. thechime says:

didn’t wright win a gold glove a few months ago?

  148. I think I’ve seen this one before. Mets get pitcher on the ropes, cant deliver the knock out. Other team commences in whittling away the lead and eventually wins.

  149. Nate W. says:

“doesnt it feel like it should be about the 7th inning right now?”

    - Gary Cohen

  150. huge_mets_fan11 says:

Ever realize that the Mets pitchers seem to never put a hitter away after being up 0-2. It seems like everytime that it happens it leads to a weird hit or a walk.

    • Nate W. says:

absolutely! Thats why they end up throwing 100 pitches in 5 innings. No put away pitches to finish off an easy strikeout or grounder.

      • huge_mets_fan11 says:

Yeah I have no idea why that is. Maybe its Rick Peterson or maybe its just bad luck. Who knows

  151. cousinrk says:

thechime, just a little gold glove humor, I know he won one

  152. Must be some really weak competition down in Mexico, eh Figgy?

  153. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

MetsBlog gets a shout out from SNY

  154. WrightsRight says:

    Metsblog plug!

  155. Ron Darling with the Matt Cerrone name-drop

  156. dykstraw says:

    CERRONE JUST GOT NAMEDROPPED

  157. MainStMets says:

“matt cerrone is a nice guy i met him a few times”

“hes a fan who has been handed the keys to the kingdom, i know what thats like ”

    great lines

    cmon figgggs get er done

  158. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Figgy, just b/c Ollie did this last game you appeared in doesn’t mean you can too.

  159. Now I’m certain I’ve seen this one before

  160. MainStMets says:

grrrr we cant catch a break

  161. Dirtysanchez says:

    great delgado got eaten up….AGAIN

  162. SantanaCYYOung says:

that’s how to hit in the clutch, get figgy out of there

  163. mrose says:

    ugh
i’m leaving the blog, the minute i came on…
    the minute it got bad

  164. blains2000 says:

I wonder what it’s like to have a real first baseman. Must be nice.

  165. Dirtysanchez says:

damn its hillarious ALWAYS ONE BATTER TOO LATE

  166. MeesesGlokmah says:

I still have faith in him.

  167. mrosey says:

    Walks are killing this team

  168. CLYONS says:

we have all learned the painful way what walks will do to you

  169. ABQMetsFan says:

thank god for lousy 8th place hitters

  170. WrightsRight says:

Nothing is ever, ever easy for this team.

  171. I cant remember the last time the Mets had a lead and I thought “well, this one’s in the bag.”

  172. gipper91375 says:

Ugh. See what happens when you blow two golden opportunities to break the game open.

Scully, “There might be some first basemen who make that play, …but not Delgado.”

  173. dwrightisgod says:

delgado looks like a matador out there

  174. Jova1931 says:

Hmm..I don’t hear anyone talking about how great Bannister is anymore. Maybe that’s because he’s 3-4 with a 4.46 ERA. Like I said, a .500 pitcher, at best.

  175. ccmetfan says:

It looks like Nelson pitches better at Shea. His worst starts have been in Chicago an LA so far.

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Until his family starts to catch the boo bug.

      • backinbusiness says:

Remember, he said in one of those interviews that his Dad boos him.

Yes, I am obsessed with the Fig.

  176. SantanaCYYOung says:

how come all these teams bring up these young stud pitchers and the mets bring up 30 something journeymen?

i mean figgy has been doing great, but this team has no long-term pitching depth, and no hitting depth in the minors for that matter.

i truly believe if the mets fall out of it before the trade deadline, they should look to trade everybody short of wright, reyes, maine and santana

    • Nate W. says:

      Pulsifer, Isringhausen, Wilson…

      … Heilman, Pelfrey, Humber, Bannister…

      wait, what was the question?

      • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free Pass says:

I think the question was, “why do all these teams bring up young stud pitchers and the Mets “young stud pitchers” suck?”

  177. Nate W. says:

Figs would be fine if they didnt allow lefty batters…

Pierre, Loney, and DeWitt are 5 of 6 with 2 runs and 2 rbi

4 walks to righty hitters hasnt helped either.

  178. HITorDIE25 says:

Geez…I like figgy…and this is because he missed his last start probably, but I think its time to get Armas jr. in here. He has been throwing well in AAA.

  179. Dirtysanchez says:

its going to be one of those games

  180. gomets6091 says:

this is why it’s imperative that they put teams away when they have the chance. This thing should be like 9-3 right now.

  181. trippingac says:

It never fails. We cant do anything with 2 outs, but all the other teams do it against us. And someone brought up a great point about the Mets never putting someone away with 2 strikes. 2 strikes, 2 outs, leads late in the game, leads late in the season, this team can’t put the hammer down.

Well, Figgy is still in line to get the win. If this f****** team can show any remote approximation of a F****** BACKBONE, maybe, just maybe, we’ll win thie f****** game.

  182. SantanaCYYOung says:

here comes a patented 1-2-3 inning from the mets bats

  183. CLYONS says:

figgy pitches better in front of his large family gatherings at shea

  184. MainStMets says:

sidenote: does anyone know the song that Blake DeWitt uses when hes at bat?

    go MO!

  185. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

    Benny the Jet Alou!

  186. backinbusiness says:

    God Bless Alou.

Please, please Mets…score some runs here, and then Figgy give Willie a reason to stretch you out.

Who is the LAD long man?

  187. the Straw says:

ok here is yet anothe opportunity for this offense to do something and get some separation in this game…they better not come up short AGAIN.

  188. WrightsRight says:

jeez, i’m so sick of every pitcher having major milestones vs. the Mets…

  189. Update on the Philly game. Still 6-4 Dbacks in the top of the 8th with Philly batting. Utley was just up and did NOT hit a homerun. A short fireworks display followed.

  190. backinbusiness says:

“Hong-Chih Kuo relieved Hiroki Kuroda” is not something you see everyday in the MLB, especially on the same team as Chin-lung Hu.

    • backinbusiness says:

Neither is “as quick a bat as Delgado has…”. Oops, Scully.

    • Nate W. says:

hopefully we dont see Saito later…

    • mrosey says:

It’s almost like Oliver Perez being double switched. Duaner Sanchez comes in to pitch and Endy Chavez replaces Moises Alou.

  191. The only question about this game is will the Mets lose it by 1 or 2, or will the bullpen take them completely out of it?

  192. WrightsRight says:

my goodness, that was such an unfair matchup

  193. SantanaCYYOung says:

again, can’t get the big hit, so frustrating

  194. HITorDIE25 says:

wow that was tough…great pitch. Oh what it would be like to have a hard throwing lefty

  195. the Straw says:

Oh what it would be like to have a Power-hitting 1st baseman.

  196. AlreadyMissShea says:

3pm game tomorrow. That’s more like it!

  197. SantanaCYYOung says:

the key to get the mets out is to put runners on base

  198. Are Mets pitchers still allowed to throw 1-2-3 innings? I feel like i may have missed a rule change on the subject because I sure havent seen one of them in awhile.

    • blains2000 says:

No – league rule. Just like the rule that the Mets have to groove fastballs to Chipper Jones and Pat “the rat” Burrell.

  199. the Straw says:

Kuo leads off the inning….does Torre pinch hit or leave him in….the way this game is going-you gotta leave him in.

  200. trippingac says:

That’s it. I’m putting my head through a wall now, and I don’t care if I make it to see the light of day on the other side.

    Nice knowing ya guys.

  201. Dirtysanchez says:

man if we lose this game
8 men left on base…..story of the game

  202. Darryl Strawberry says:

The other teams constantly score runs with two outs against us. We never seem to be able to get a two out hit to drive in runs. I don’t have the numbers but the Mets must be hitting below 100 with two outs and runners in scoring position. With the way Kuo just took over this game and the way Figgy is pitching I’m afriad this lead is gone.

    • Dirtysanchez says:

yea but a least the guy is fighting to keep the lead…
the offense gotta get it together ASAP

  203. AlreadyMissShea says:

LOL! Great story from Vin on SNY.

  204. 2/3’s of the way to the 1-2-3 inning, but Gary Cohen just jinxed it

  205. InsaneMetsFan says:

    THIS JUST IN………

Beltran is a late scratch with a hang-nail on his right pinky. H’s listed as day-to-day but the Mets don’t expect him back until after the weekend.

  206. the Straw says:

    1….2…..could it be???

  207. Dirtysanchez says:

man where was this andrew when he was on the braves……….

  208. SantanaCYYOung says:

    i can’t believe this game is 4-3

  209. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Wow Jones looked overmatched on an 87 MPH fastball. At least Delgado gets tied up on something faster.

  210. Dirtysanchez says:

geezzz theres no real break in this lineup

  211. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Let’s see you do that Dewitt.

  212. ABQMetsFan says:

    Hit it where they are!

  213. Dirtysanchez says:

damn wrights getting everything out there
hope he can translate that to his bat

  214. ABQMetsFan says:

I hope Guiseppe Franco goes away and dies.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

I guess it’s based more on what we’re watching, and I don’t watch much besides sports at this point. But it seems like every commercial is for some kind of hair restoration or prostate formula. Do they even have commercials for cereal or candy anymore? I’m guessing those are on during cartoons, that is if they even HAVE cartoons anymore. Seems like they were killed by the infomercials. It’s all a great big scam!

  215. backinbusiness says:

82 pitches through 4, even on Figgytime he can’t go the distance :(

Let’s see how far he can go though…

    COME ON BATS!!!

  216. Nate W. says:

Figueroa getting smacked around, thrown 82 pitches through 4 and looking very sloppy… yet the long man has thrown 1 inning in the last three games… how does that happen? Willie?

  217. the Straw says:

82 pitches thus far….maybe Figs can give us two more solid innings???

That is unless Willie pinch hits for him in this inning….like only Willie would do.

    • backinbusiness says:

      Figgy bats!

      Willie? Is that you?

Maybe Willie reads MetsBlog and saw all our reminders about stretching out Figgy…

  218. WrightsRight says:

this guy makes sandy koufax look like ollie perez

  219. blains2000 says:

Hey, didn’t he throw like 160 in the winter league? Leave him out there.

  220. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Was that a flyball from Castillo?

    • backinbusiness says:

by “flyball” do you mean “injury RIGHT TO HIS FREAKING KNEE”?

      • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

He fouled one off earlier in the PA, I had to rewind DVR a few times to believe the ball stayed in the air.

  221. backinbusiness says:

0 balls. 10 strikes. What can we trade for you, Huo?

  222. Well that was a nice story about Castillo. Wont see him anymore this year.

  223. Dirtysanchez says:

    GREAT!!!!!!!
    ON THE LEGS!!!!!!!!!!!!
HES OUT FOR A FEW MONTHS

  224. HITorDIE25 says:

    right in the johnson

  225. Nate W. says:

its a good thing Castillo no longer has knees, otherwise that HBP might hurt…

  226. Dirtysanchez says:

so we wont see him in the lineup tomorrow

  227. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Now Castillo will run even gimpier?

  228. gometzies_18 says:

Wow I thought Castillo was headed for the DL…

  229. Dirtysanchez says:

    cmon reyes

  230. huge_mets_fan11 says:

    Way to be tough Castillo

Maybe now his one leg won’t be shorter then the other.

  231. 9 pitches, 3 strike outs, then walks the pitcher. We’ve got a spot for you on this team, young man.

  232. ABQMetsFan says:

Walking a mets pitcher twice isn’t that bad.

  233. backinbusiness says:

Looks like Shot to the Knee:Kuo::Shot to the Head::Wise.

  234. stickguy says:

Yup, as I expected. I leave for a couple of innigns, and the Dodgers are creeping back.

Mets get tons of base runners early, leave a bunch on base, can’t get the big hit to blow it open, then the O goes to sleep, and the other team climbs back in it.

I know I have scene this show before. Wonder where???

  235. blains2000 says:

How come so many players own the Mets? Who do the Mets own? Anyone? Just us crazy fans?

  236. khmustache says:

just got home…where’s beltran?…nice grab ump

    • Scully said he had the flu. I don’t know if that’s right or not

    • backinbusiness says:

late scratch = flu like symptoms.

perhaps he will resume baseball activities soon.

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

He was feeling 33.2312523% of a flu coming on.

      • khmustache says:

        oh…i undrestand…i can’t do anything if i feel anything over 31.28783745353% of a flu

        • HITorDIE25 says:

You guys are ignorant…If you guys had a ounce of talent that he has in anything you do in life I would understand you saying that…just dumb Mets fans,..Love him when he is dominating pitchers, hate him when he isnt…

        • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free Pass says:

Will always be a Beltran supporter. I think he has always given his all to this team. Aside from his great center field play, when the guy gets locked in, he is a beast.

He was the reason for our success in 2006. He and Pedro were both part of the free agent class that turned things around over here.

  237. Dirtysanchez says:

    crap……………
    lets go church

  238. WrightsRight says:

what the hell is looking at?!!!

  239. HITorDIE25 says:

what the hell was that? DId a bug fly in his eye?

  240. Dirtysanchez says:

damn scully hit it on the head
    RISP is killing us

  241. Arsenal13 says:

that pitch was so low…ump is atrocious

  242. Phillies have tying runs on in the 9th with 2 outs and Bruntlett up

  243. Dirtysanchez says:

cmon guys we gotta walk away with something

  244. ABQMetsFan says:

    phillies lose

  245. Dirtysanchez says:

    final 6/4 diamondbacks

  246. This guy Kuo must throw 106 MPH

  247. MainStMets says:

    good lord

    10 lob

  248. Dirtysanchez says:

    DAMN that was hellova pitch

  249. Dirtysanchez says:

man if we lose this one….we know who to blame

  250. WrightsRight says:

Why don’t these guys ever protect the plate??!! That inning is a microcosm of the past year.

  251. Koko says:

Hey Church and Reyes pulled a ‘Beltran’

  252. Do the mets even have a batting avg with runners in scoring position w/ 2 outs? I think the last person to get a 2 out rbi was Paul LoDuca last season

  253. backinbusiness says:

“An angry Church saying things that are not in Church.” –Scully.
That doesn’t quite make sense, but I feel you.

  254. D-Day says:

21 total left on base. this is RIDICULOUS!

  255. the Straw says:

    This is just SAD

  256. Darryl Strawberry says:

2-12 with runners in scoring position. sickening.

  257. Dirtysanchez says:

    cmon figs 1-2-3 inning
    jesus 10 left on base

  258. stickguy says:

10 lob in 5 innings. And they are now getting to the good part of the Dodger pen.

Somehow, I am not expecting good news when I check the result in the morning…

But, at least the Phils lost. Although Washington is sneaking up…

  259. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Ha ha, Ronny whited out the 1988 WS title out. Damn you Orel Herscheiser.

  260. dontstopbelieving says:

The pitch to Reyes was clearly a strike. The pitch to Church looked high and away.

    • Koko says:

Seriously you might not like the ump, but he has been consistent between the batters and teams and truthfully that is all you can ask for.

  261. stickguy says:

Classic line just said by Scully”

“this is one of those games that you are winning, but just standing around waiting to lose” (or something close to that.)

  262. Dirtysanchez says:

    damn soo close

  263. MainStMets says:

what song is playing currently for de witts at bat!?!?

  264. Dirtysanchez says:

im going to be soooo dead for work today the way this one is going lol

    • backinbusiness says:

think of it this way, you only need to be mentally at work until 3pm, then another game.

  265. blains2000 says:

According to baseball reference Mets risp .247 .353 .364 – ba, obp, slg.

  266. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Walk Dewitt and Hu, maybe that will get Kuo out of the game.

  267. stickguy says:

    Man, you guys are right.

2 outs, no on, 0-2, and of course the batter gets a hit.

No one on this team can ever do things the easy way.

Oh, and Scully just used the word “Dilatory” (sp?)

  268. Dirtysanchez says:

    wtf…………………….

  269. Why was he talking about tongue depressors?

  270. MainStMets says:

just disgusing…thats how you wave a guy around 3rd base

  271. welcome back 2007! We Effing Missed You!

  272. AlreadyMissShea says:

UGH! What a way to start a Wednesday morning.

  273. dykstraw says:

    LAME

where’s the backup there? way to stay with the play!

  274. WrightsRight says:

and THAT is the season, the past year in a nutshell….

    Kelly Johnson
    Chipper Jones
    Pat Burrell
    Blake DeWitt

  275. khmustache says:

stealing home and an inside the park homerun…in one game…only the mets

  276. Dirtysanchez says:

well i guess it was a hr anyway……….

  277. blains2000 says:

Dear god, Shawn Green in the LCS all over again.

  278. Lol, he may have hit an inside the park homerun, but he still has a stupid name. Blake, yuck.

  279. Darryl Strawberry says:

Once again with two outs and noboody on. This is almost getting predictable. This game is over. The Dodgers bullpen is unhittable. With a weak hitting righty on deck, why was this red hot rookie even given anything to hit?

  280. backinbusiness says:

    Ryan Church is no Endy.

    Close, though.

  281. mrosey says:

Looks like Church thought it was a home run. He kinda paused after he fell. Great effort though. We can’t lose this game (and now its all falling apart)

    • Koko says:

Funny. I bet if the same thing happened to Beltran everyone would be on his case for not hustling for the ball after the carom.

  282. MainStMets says:

nice throw feet must not have been set

  283. Stems says:

    Scrubs thrive against the Mets

  284. Delgado should talk over to Wright, hand him the first basemen’s mit, and ride off into the sunset

  285. Dirtysanchez says:

soooo he makes crazy plays but cannot make a routine throw

  286. HITorDIE25 says:

    jesus….Gather yourselves

  287. khmustache says:

wow…figgy should fight everybody on the team after this

  288. blains2000 says:

Can’t we just drill Kuo for last year’s bat flip?

  289. dykstraw says:

    it’s sloppy crapfest baseball time

  290. WrightsRight says:

THIS is what happens when you leave guys in scoring position….and that is how teams score runs with 2 outs. I hope the Mets are taking notes.

  291. backinbusiness says:

Who was Wright aiming for in the field level seats?

  292. Dirtysanchez says:

sooo i guess those 10 runs would come in handy right about now huh………..

  293. Stems says:

Dewitt will have 4 home runs all year.. count on it.

    • khmustache says:

i don’t know…they do have 4 more games against the mets…i’d give him 9 homeruns

  294. Darryl Strawberry says:

I want to puke once again.

  295. I’m going to save everybody the heartache tomorrow. I’m going to write up the boxscore of tomorrow’s game and post it later. I don’t even need to watch these games anymore to know how they’re gonna end. Here’s a preview: 10 LOB, 6 hits, lead 3-1 going into the 6th. Maine loses the strike zone and starts to get hit hard. Leaves with a 3-3 tie with leading run on third. Smith then gives up the lead and things continue downhill from there. Mets lose 8-3

  296. ntlrock1 says:

My god this is just unreal…

    Typical, only to the Mets!

They better start cashing in with those runners on soon before those good BP arms come in and shut the door. This game alone could turn a potentially great road trip into a horrible one.

  297. Dirtysanchez says:

cmon Wright hit a bomb here

  298. playmaker3128 says:

Tough play that church unfortunately couldn’t make. I blame pagan more for not even attempting to back up. Cost us a run.

Its really amazing. I’m sitting there in the 2nd inning, were up 3-0, bases loaded and nobody out. We could have put the game away then. Now i’m sitting here a couple innings later and were losing.

  299. ABQMetsFan says:

thank god. Heilman is warming up

  300. backinbusiness says:

only 104 pitches for Figgy, maybe we can score some runs now and he can go out for the 6th :-/

  301. Dirtysanchez says:

CMON GUYS FIGZ CANNOT GET THE LOSS HERE

  302. stickguy says:

unbelievable. They could just be rerunning a game from last year at this pace.

Nothing left but for the heart of the order to go down in the 6th on 10 pitches, then the BP to blow this open by giving up 5+ runs more.

If I see a W in the morning, I will be shocked. This team just never seems to win one when a game goes like this.

Actually, a good time to prove they have “intensity”, etc. If the battle back and play tough, great. If they get mopey and just pout out the rest of the game, a bad bad sign.

  303. WrightsRight says:

    Kuo=God

  304. Stems says:

wow wright… nice way to take ur defense to the plate..

  305. mrosey says:

    Another Game. Same Story

  306. blains2000 says:

Bases loaded 0 outs 0 runs for Mets. 2 outs nobody on 2 runs for the Dodgers.

I’ve see this game too many times.

  307. skylog says:

well. there it is. it the mets m.o. leave men on on offense and don’t finish batters or innings on defense. it is like i little anything you can do i can do better contest.

  308. playmaker3128 says:

Its amazing how bad wright looks at the plate right now. He’s trying to pull everything.

  309. khmustache says:

    at least it wasn’t a strikeout…

  310. the Straw says:

where is it….where is it….ah yes….Looks like someone knows their Mets.

    From approximately 11:00EST, after the 2nd inning…

NO KILLER instinct…now the game will stay close and willie will be forced to pitcher everyone in the bullpen.

  311. SayItAintSo says:

i had to sign up just to say

    YUCK!!!!!

And that Dewitt song is led zeppelin

  312. WrightsRight says:

    Best. Pitcher. Ever.

  313. Dirtysanchez says:

    this is almost embarrassing………….

  314. Guys, I have officially had enough. Everyone have a good night. I hope the Mets come back in this one, but I strongly doubt it. O and whoever said it would be a 10 pitch, 1-2-3 inning for Kuo, come get your prize.

  315. skylog says:

deep down, no matter how much we want it, and want to believe, what do you think? any chance to actually take this one? they just ‘look’ deflated.

    • stickguy says:

Nope. I have no faith. Scully must have said about 6 times that they looked like they were standing around waiting to lose, and tht just might be true.

If nothing else, some of the guys (yes, DW, I mean you) are really pressing.

Forget about getting fire and intensity, they need to learn to relax too!

    • khmustache says:

nope…they all look like somebody who knows they’re about to cry but they’re trying to hold it in…they’re done

  316. stickguy says:

Well, I had the 6th inning nailed, but Kuo owes them a couple of pitches.

  317. backinbusiness says:

Oh, I had missed Delgado’s golf swing of 2007.

  318. ccmetfan says:

Im gonna watch Scrubs on Fox instead right now. The mets simply are frustrated and don’t know how to fix their problems. It’s up to them.

    • khmustache says:

scrubs?!! wow…are the mets that bad? you could at least watch an infomercial or something

  319. TheHammer says:

    7 K’s for Kuo……wow

  320. Darryl Strawberry says:

I love the Mets, but I have such little confidence in them right now I would be willing to bet big money that they won’t even have a baserunner for the rest of the game let alone get a hit or score runs. Once Church bounced into that double play with the bases loaded and no outs, one could just feel another loss coming.

    • DavidDog says:

ill bet you big money that they will have a baserunner, and strand him at third

  321. DavidDog says:

    Kuo is throwing GASSS! wow!

  322. dykstraw says:

    BIG MISTAKE PULLING FIGGY HERE.

    remember this decision willie lovers!

  323. Stems says:

i cant beleive the negativity already.. at least wait til heilman puts this out of reach completely!

  324. TheHammer says:

When O when will Willie’s head roll????

  325. D-Day says:

man this is crazy. losing sucks as everone knows but its not just that its the way that the mets have been giving up these games thats killing all there cofidence and ours!!! not to call this one over but i have just become another glass is half empty mets fan.

  326. WrightsRight says:

…and there was so much hope after Arizona…It’s been said here before but this isn’t 2007 all over again. It’s 2005. This team will finish 83-79. All season long it will be two steps forward, one step back, four steps forward, six steps back. Mediocrity. A long, glorious trip to the middle.

    • TheHammer says:

      Agreed..well said

      • ccmetfan says:

I actually enjoyed the 05 season. Majority of the games I attended the Mets lost but my favorite game I attended was Pedro throwing a complete game shut out against the braves the day after my birthday.

        • Dirtysanchez says:

the 05 season was great. We were just such a gritty underdog team………..good ol days

        • gomets6091 says:

yea…this ain’t ‘05 (a season we were on the rise), this is 2002 all over again.

    • trippingac says:

Glass half empty? I dunno about you, but my glass is completely empty, and this is my fourth glass, and I’m almost out of scotch.

  327. AlreadyMissShea says:

I would be worried, but earlier today someone posted that it’s still April. :)

  328. Dirtysanchez says:

of course we are losing and heilman looks like an allstar……..
    nvrmind

  329. SayItAintSo says:

i have a few points id like to get out there, because i am driving myself insane!!!!!

    1. Fire HOJO
The offense looks horrible since about the time he came along. I have never seen so many hitters consistently strike out looking, pop up on first pitches, look completely clueless at the plate, etc. Do we SCOUT PITCHERS??? One thing pissed me off, we faced that braves rookie, and he shut us down after the bobby cox ejection… After the game, willie said, “we had no approach against this guy, it was the first time we saw him”. How many times do averga eor straight up crappy pitchers make the mets look like the bad news bears??? Everytime we face a bumb, he goes 7 innings, 2 hihts 1 er…

    2. Fire Pederson
This pitching staff is downright awful… to go with our batters striking out looking all the time, how many times do you see a mets pitcher throw a meatball on 0-2, 1-2????? fircal last night, the martin single last inning.. .Do we know how to throw a ball in the dirt???

It is may, and I am so sick of watching this team, its a joke. I love the mets… but look at us on here, we are all dying with this horrible display of baseball night after night..

You know we are not scoring again…

Oh wait, an update on pedro… WHOOOOPPPPPIIIEEEEE!!!!!!

    • backinbusiness says:

      what was the pedro update?

      • ABQMetsFan says:

        i think it was sarcasm

        • backinbusiness says:

Sorry, don’t have SNY and got excited…
Man, it is 12:45 and we are starting the 7th…

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

He threw in front of Omar today in PSL. I didn’t really listen to the whole thing. Honestly, he can do whatever he has to do, and I wish him the best in his rehab, but I’ll believe he’s going to help the team when I see it.

And in that case, it’s not negativity. I really don’t know what he has left, if anything. Whatever they get will be a bonus.

        • SayItAintSo says:

they said he is ready to strat throwing, or thinking about throwing, or maybe he jus farted and they thought he was thinking about throwing.

          METS = DEPRESSION

          .500, here we come!!!

    • TheHammer says:

If you fire Willie and bring in a new manager he will bring in his own coaches. It’s time for Willie to vacate the dugout shouldn’t someone be held accountable for last year?

      • SayItAintSo says:

yes.. id like to drop the fn hammer on his big dopey head.. i cant stand watching him talk..

        whats he gonna say tonight..

“You know, Figgy looked good.. i liked his line. Ryan Chruch really should have made that catch though.. he stinks, huh? Im gonna start Ollie again tomorrow, get my guy right back out there.. Oh yeah, and joe, im toasted.. ”

willie i know your not a bad guy, but this team plays like a bad sandlot crew for you, and thats why you need to go.. its not the managers fault, but you cant light a lamp under this team right now.. you are done here my friend.

  330. blains2000 says:

The curse of the 1-2-3 inning lives.

  331. Dirtysanchez says:

man schnieder is getting run on more than piazza out there………
    talk about taking advantage

  332. TheHammer says:

    Kuo K’s 2 this inning

  333. DavidDog says:

watching heilman, he has such good stuff, if you saw him for just one batter you’d say he was a superstar, yet it’s just not working out… maybe he really is ready to get back in the rotation and be dominant

  334. Dirtysanchez says:

    hope sosa’s taking notes

  335. Dirtysanchez says:

wtf..some of these hitters are just throwing their at bats away…..

  336. ntlrock1 says:

this is the worst hitting performance I have probably ever seen. 3 2/3 innings 8 strikeouts!

    • backinbusiness says:

Could be, could also be that Kuo is positively freaking nasty.

      • khmustache says:

well he did lose his spot in the rotation this year…so i’d put some ofthis on the mets

        • backinbusiness says:

as a reliever he had a 0.90 ERA coming into this day (10 IP, 15 K, 2 BB)

  337. SayItAintSo says:

    i
    hate
    this
    team!!!!!!!!!!

    • backinbusiness says:

SIAS, I think you said earlier you just signed up for MetsBlog today. The team is playing really sloppy ball, but they are down by 1 run! I’m glad I wasn’t sitting in your section last September. Breathe a little man!

      • SayItAintSo says:

i have been banned a few times… im letting it all out tonight, then im done until august..

i physically can not watch this team play anymore..

  338. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Kuo shouldn’t get paid today, he’s barely had to work.

  339. DavidDog says:

    hats off to kuo guys.
does this guy seriously not start???

  340. AlreadyMissShea says:

So… Anyone going to the new downtown sports museum this week? Looks fun.

  341. SayItAintSo says:

    Quick funny thing..

On that procede commercial, do you notice how they say

Giussepe Franco uses it for his celebrity clients, and then they show him hugging

    GARY BUSEY!!!!!!!

Is he still a celbrity??? I thought he was in a parallel dimension?

    • ccmetfan says:

I think he’s B list celebrity. I saw him on celebtrity fit club on vh1.

    • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free Pass says:

It’s not Gary Busey in the commercial!!!!!!!!!

How many times are we going to get it wrong, fellas? If it was, maybe we can hire him to be our pitching coach. He was a crafty ol vet in “Rookie of the Year”.

  342. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

I wonder if the Dodger Stadium crew is hiding the chairs in the visiting team manager’s clubhouse. Supposedly after the Mets got swept last year in LA Willie broke a chair.

    • AlreadyMissShea says:

What did he do, sit down too fast?

    • dykstraw says:

no worries, he just sat on it funny

      he turned the page tho

      • khmustache says:

he just didn’t have his good sittin stuff that night…he got it going though…it was stii early

        • khmustache says:

          *still

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Mock him all you want. Willie will be the one sitting on a broken chair sipping champagne at the end of the season.

        • DavidDog says:

ahahahaha! yeah! as a bench coach with the red sox! i’m not even sure this is a .500 team, and I’ve always known Willie is a TERRIBLE manager, bad all around, completely inept (pich-hitting, lineups, pitching changes, clubhouse, etc)

  343. TheHammer says:

Get ready for Broxton and Saito….Nice game Willie Gump….great road trip so far….try motivating your players

  344. AzMetsFan says:

Mets bullpen please take notes. The dodgers bp is what you should hope to aspire to be one day.

  345. SayItAintSo says:

funny how you can be up 4-1, and still it seems like there is no chance you can win the game..

  346. backinbusiness says:

Heilman has kept us in the game, and he even got DeWitt!

Hopefully this game goes into extras and ends at 6am.

  347. TheHammer says:

Steamboat Willies comments…..” We had em on the ropes there…got to try and put them away right there, but Kudoro got in a nice lil rythm and was able to put us down…..We’ll bounce back tomorrow it’s a long season and it’s still early”

    • khmustache says:

here’s a fun game. put willie in different spots throughout history.

titanic: we had a good cruise, that iceberg just got a good bead on us and was able to put us under the ocean…we’ll bounce back though…i’ve got the hindenburg going tomorrow and it’s looked really good lately, it’ll be just the pickup we need

      • AlreadyMissShea says:

Navigator William Randolph, filling in on an important voyage for an ailing Christopher Columbus, keeps missing the new land. Tells Queen Isabella sometimes you just have to tip your sailor’s cap, and they’ll get there tomorrow.

America is discovered by a James Rollins sometime later.

    • dykstraw says:

what i’m really wondering is whether he trusts his guys

  348. ccmetfan says:

our secret weapon is coming up

  349. backinbusiness says:

You guys. This game has been horrendous, but do you realize we are down by 1 run. 1! This game is not over. Breathing exercises?

Beltran is hitting with flu like symptoms? But I thought he was a pansy?!

  350. TheHammer says:

.210 beltran and his goldilocks hair…I wonder if guisppe Franco is his stylist?

  351. SayItAintSo says:

why does gary keep saying carlos beltran is a secret weapon????

    He is hitting 200..

He is going to strike out looking or swinging at a drit ball..

He carlos, i have flu like symptons, BUT I HAVE TO GO TO WORK TO EAT YOU OVERPAID 2 HOMERUN HITTING WASTE OF A CLEANUP SPOT!!!! I love you in the field though carlos..dont get me wrong..

But Blake DeWitt has tied you in the HR category now..

    • ccmetfan says:

Watch him sneeze and hit a hr by accident

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

And The Glider could have legged out an inside the park HR last night.

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

Damn you were right. Someone also guessed correctly on Kuo setting down the heart of the order 1-2-3.

  352. dr jones says:

well dudes,, if changes are not made then this is going to be one miserable summer. Our last year at our ballpark will become a huge black eye. The GM and manager will forever be held responsible for this disaster. This might be the most talented Mets team we have ever had and they consistently underachieve and play like they don’t believe in themselves. Something has to be done so we can have one last dance at shea.

  353. ABQMetsFan says:

was that a ball in the dirt?

  354. SayItAintSo says:

    HEY I CALLED THAT!!!!

SECRET WEAPON STRIKES OUT on a DIRT BALL!!!!!

  355. AlreadyMissShea says:

Very fitting that they’re playing the Dodgers.

Beltran coming up there as the secret weapon was exactly like Kirk Gibson, only completely different.

  356. ccmetfan says:

You think it would’ve made a difference in Nelson’s performance if Casanova would’ve caught today?

  357. TheHammer says:

It’s amazing how beltran will take pitches right down the middle and then swing at those balls in the dirt!!

  358. TheHammer says:

would be nice to have that double a few innings a go

  359. SayItAintSo says:

    here comes
David “What is an RBI” Wright..

  360. backinbusiness says:

OK. DW. You own the Dodgers, remember? Law of averages? COME ON DW!!!!!

    (Nice hit Church.)

    • SayItAintSo says:

      ARE YOU FN KIDIDNG ME???????????????????

MY SON WOULDVE SWUNG AT BOTH THOSE PITCHES, AND HE IS 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  361. johnolerud says:

church has such a nice compact swing. it makes you wonder just how mismanaged the nationals really are…

  362. ABQMetsFan says:

    I sense another RISP LOB

  363. SayItAintSo says:

    kelly johnson
    auggie ojeda
    blake dewitt

whos next, ashlee simpson and kevin federline?????

    are they on NL rosters???

  364. khmustache says:

    wow

  365. MainStMets says:

swing the effin bt for the love of mookie….if we were home would the boo birds finally turn on wright?

  366. Stems says:

    cmon DWright….

  367. SayItAintSo says:

the “SUCKING” disease has finally got a hold of wright.. church hasnt caught it yet, but he will..

  368. TheHammer says:

It must be all that Booing of Andruw jones thats effecting the Mets play

  369. SayItAintSo says:

    i hope we lose 27-4

  370. MainStMets says:

johan already caught a few vs the brew crew…

  371. khmustache says:

there has to be a way to blame this game on the fans…did they hear us booing through the tv?

  372. Jooztee says:

Our team is 1.5 games back of first place on May 7th.
Our team is 1.5 games back of first place on May 7th.
Our team is 1.5 games back of first place on May 7th.
Our team is 1.5 games back of first place on May 7th.
Our team is 1.5 games back of first place on May 7th.

Shut up and have some faith. We are going to win this game tonight.

  373. SayItAintSo says:

    Im taking bets right now..

I am giving even money on brad penny throwing a 1 hit complete game shutout against the ” We are tired, its too early to play baseball, we thought last night was the last game, thats why we stopped playing in the 4th inning like we always do” Mets…

    • DWright31 says:

Well, we know Alou and Castillo will be out of the lineup, they are far too fragile to play day games after night games.

  374. DWright31 says:

    This team is UN-WATCHABLE

  375. Jooztee says:

No one is settling for mediocrity. Everyone in the organization wants to win. We also can’t panic like a bunch of idiots. We, the New York Mets fans, are the laughing stock of baseball.

Our team is 1.5 games back of first place on May 7th.

    Stop crying.

    • SayItAintSo says:

We were the pre season, guaranteed to win the world series favorite, remember that? Even Steve Phillips picked the mets…

There is not a sports writer out there now that will take this underachieving team to win the world series..

    • ABQMetsFan says:

and think where they would be if the team actually showed up to play

  376. SayItAintSo says:

is andrew jones taking BP with HOJO and Carlos 1 and 2?

  377. ABQMetsFan says:

If it wasn’t for the Detroit Tigers, the Mets would be the laughing stock of MLB

  378. TheHammer says:

Here’s the story of the Mets’ Season….high pitch counts….no offense…too many walks….lack of timely hitting and an up and down bullpen…..smells like .500 baseball to me.

  379. khmustache says:

on a side note, there’s a guy in a suit sitting right behind home plate who looks just like craig t. nelson

  380. backinbusiness says:

Smith is just hot. I will cry when they send him down.

    Alou, Delgado, Pagan.

    I’m gonna go with Alou.

    Let’s Go Mets.

  381. DavidDog says:

I’m sorry, I haven’t checked all the posts, but has nobody really made the “HU’s on first” joke?

Lets Go Mets. Lets Go Mets. Lets Go Mets.

  383. SayItAintSo says:

And we all know they will send him down too..

THEY SHOULD DFA SOSA.. WHO CARES??? WE NEED HIM TO PITCH IN BLOWOUTS???

Smith will be the next heath bell, up and down and up and down, then traded, to become a stud.

      Jooztee,

I knew the 1986 Mets. The 1986 Mets were friends of mine. And this team, Jooztee, is no 1986 Mets.

  394. backinbusiness says:

    2 on, 2 out, Castillo.

    How about Marlon instead?

    • ABQMetsFan says:

why do I get the feeling that the best part of this season will be reading all your comments?

  399. backinbusiness says:

By my count, Castillo has hit 3 balls into the outfield. 2 were foul, but hey — progress.

  400. NY Cuban says:

    Way to swing Castillo…

  401. khmustache says:

struck out looking…that should be the mets motto this year

  402. grotesmask says:

    Castillo can do it!

  403. DavidDog says:

ok this was awful. but that’s not a strike

    • SayItAintSo says:

      PROTECT THE PLATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The mets should all get drunk and get that tatooed to their foreheads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  404. dykstraw says:

but hey guys castillo so rarely strikes out, he is a great signing, someone please tell me what a fine widdle .300 hitter he is now

  405. TheHammer says:

was that like 15 K’s for met batters tonight???

  406. Well its obvious what the Mets need. Asian pitchers. O and more guys named Blake

  407. playmaker3128 says:

Thats what i was asking myself as well. Why not marlon in that situation? its stupid to bat castillo there. The outfield is gonna play extremely shallow anyway. Not only cant they do that with marlon, but he’s got some pop as well.

  408. SayItAintSo says:

I HOPE CASTILLO BREAKS HIS KNEECAP CLIMBING INTO HIS BED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  409. D-Day says:

and that last half inning pretty much sums up this team right now, the get your hopes up only to let you down in the end!

  410. TheHammer says:

Would have loved to see Marlon there…but hey stick with your old crusty veteran willie

    • DWright31 says:

Marlon is an older, crustier veteran. I hate Willie, but he did absolutely nothing wrong this game.

      • Ollie Ollie Oxen Free Pass says:

Marlon should have been hitting there. There is no argument you can possibly make as to why Castillo was hitting.

  411. Stems says:

Friggin scrub DeWitt beats us… what a joke..

  412. johnolerud says:

    fire #12- it’s time

  413. DWright31 says:

Who didnt see that coming? The Mets cant come back in the 9th innings (or comeback period), and we’re the masters of the tease.

Seriously, I’d like to know how many comebacks we’ve had in 07 and 08, it has to be very low. This team has no heart and its disgusting.

  414. SayItAintSo says:

i hope we get swept, so at least there is a chance this guy gets canned before june..

swept in LA, and then swept by the nats..

    that would do it..

5-12 donw the stretch last year AND HE STILL HAS A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  415. AlreadyMissShea says:

Damn you New Yorkers who moved with the Dodgers to LA and went to the game tonight! Damn you to hell for making it hard for the Mets to relax and get into a groove. The New York Fan Virus continues to hurt this team!

  416. Two-By-Four says:

    agita!

  417. TheHammer says:

27 outs and 12 of them via the K…what an offensive powerhouse!

  418. Jooztee says:

Or you could hope we win the next 4 games and take control of first place – but that is just crazy talk on this blog.

    • TheHammer says:

I thought they were winning this game….you must have just started watching this team to believe that

    • khmustache says:

we do HOPE that they win the next 4 games and take control of first place…but we KNOW that they probably won’t…how long have you been rooting for this team?

      • therealsince86 says:

22 years and I pull for them no matter what.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

And you rip on other people for being “bandwagon” fans? What did you do with all of your Yankee stuff when you came on board?

        • therealsince86 says:

I was 8 years old you dumbass and was first drawn to baseball then. The series against the Astro’s made me a fan for life. Wow, what an idiot.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Yeah, sure you were. SURE you were. That’s a lot of name calling there, buddy. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were 8 years old NOW. You were like a lot of other clowns who became fans that year. Lying about it just makes this post about as pointless as the rest of your “contributions” around here.

        • therealsince86 says:

You are serious> You expect a guy who has been a fan for 22 years to liken to you calling him a Yankee fan? And you expect me not to come back with name calling? I have lost an incredible amount of respect for you just based on these last few post. I have no desire to respond to you whatsoever. By the way, how old are you?

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Yeah, I came at you like that because I don’t see you offer ANYTHING here other than the usual talking down to people who don’t agree with you. You lost an incredible amount of respect for me? That’s hard to believe. I haven’t seen you treat anyone with respect in any of the threads since I’ve been here.

Did you come here tonight with anything to offer, or did you just show up and ask people to stop being fans? Maybe that’s supposed to be humorous, but it’s pointless more than anything else.

You don’t want to respond to me? Don’t. I don’t really care. I’ve been around a little bit longer than you have, and in spite of what you think, you don’t know nearly as much as you think you do.

        • therealsince86 says:

You have been on here longer than me? Are you joking?
Bigger question, why do you get so upset and challenge any poster who still believes or still has hope for this team?

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Not around this blog. Just around. Anyway, I believe as much as you do. You can read my longer post down below if you want. I’m frustrated by more than just the play on the field. I’m completely burnt out on this Boo Gate nonsense, so I’m gonna cool it for a while.

    • ABQMetsFan says:

If we have to hope every week to win 4 in a row, i think the Nats will catch up to us eventually.

    • SayItAintSo says:

we clearly all want the team to win, but admit it to yourself, they are not good..

this team shows no sign of being anything more than 500…

our precious alou is back, and we are 203 with him in th elineup.. and hell sit tomorrow, along with castillo and schneider..

So whats our lineup look like tomorrow boys???

      is willie going to play?

    • therealsince86 says:

But, no that will not get Willie fired, Seriously, I think some of the “fans” need to go on strike and give up baseball until Willie is gone. Please!!!!! Start right away.

    • Two-By-Four says:

The Mets are very capable of winning the next 4 games or for that matter losing the next 4 games. But I’m with you and let’s hope they win 4 in a row. But then again the way this team plays they could very well follow up the 4 wins in a row with 4 losses in a row. They are the perfect definition of mediocrity.

  419. ABQMetsFan says:

Is this what $150M (or whatever our bloated payroll is) will buy you? Omar got scammed.

  420. SayItAintSo says:

    what does willie say?????

Can we hear a warning shot from Omar, maybe.. THIS CANT CONTINUE LIKE THIS FOR MUC LONGER, OR HEADS ARE GONNA ROLL!!!! And by heads, i mean ill trade church schneider wright and all you other lighties…

  421. trippingac says:

I’m not sure whether to laugh, cry, break everything in my apartment, or all three.

I echo the sentiment put out by a previous poster: WHY NOT PUT MARLON IN THAT SPOT INSTEAD OF CASTILLO!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Fire Willie. Fire him. Please fire him.

I’m so beside myself right now. And all this time I’ve been the optimistic glass if half-full Mets fan. I don’t even know what to say about this.

Well I’ll say this. It’s one thing when your team doesn’t hit because they don’t have good hitters. That’s fine. You know what, I can handle that. But that’s not our problem. When your team can’t hit with runners in scoring position, and when your team is hitting well under .200 with RISP and 2 outs, that is due to LACK OF CHARACTER. And that’s the problem with this team – THEY LACK CHARACTER. They used to have it. For a whole season and then two months of the following season, they had it. And then they lost it very fast. And I don’t know if they can ever retrieve it.

This team is a disgrace. I don’t care if it’s early – I know it is. I don’t care if we’re only 1.5 games out of first – that was the perpetual story last year. I don’t give a flying f*** about any of that horsesh**. This team lacks balls, guts, character. They should be ashamed of themsleves for what they did tonight and what they have done all season. And I seriously wonder if anyone on this team, aside from a very small select few, is truly ashamed.

And I have completely lost my mind.

    • khmustache says:

welcome to the club…hats and coats on the left, chips on the right

    • therealsince86 says:

Frustrated but I can understand why you let Castillo hit there. Anderson would have been the next man up and you have to trust Castillo to get on. Anderson comes up and they walk him, who is up then?

    • grotesmask says:

Dude, I feel your pain. I’d like to scream, vomit, and smash my head into a wall all at the same time. Oops, I’m embarrassing myself as a Mets fan.

Does Orange-n-Blue have any F-ing Guts or What?!

Time to curl up in the fetal position and watch Game 6 of ‘86 for the 400th F-ing time!!!!!!

    • gipper91375 says:

I think Trippingac sums up the sentiment of the fanbase perfectly.

  422. NY Cuban says:

Typical mets. Win 2 in AZ and start to build some momentum and then drop 2 to the Dodgers. They won’t get swept though. They will do just enough to keep afloat and give us all hope….only to crush us in Sept.

    • therealsince86 says:

Then quit now Cuban. You ask earlier if .500 on the road was good enough? It’s more than good enough against good teams on the road. I am guessing you know how a season is built. Want to win 90 games with this bunch then go .500 on the road and 20 over at home. That’s 91/92 wins. Go .500 against the good teams and 20 over against the bad, that’s 91 wins. So yes i am encouraged by a 3-3 road trip against the Dogers and Arizona. I would not be encouraged by a 3-3 trip to come home a lose a series to the Nats. Then I would be angry.

      • NY Cuban says:

How about 2-4? Cuz that is a possibility now.

Serious question, do you see any difference in this team’s attitude since May of 2007? To me, they look totally the same…bored…”its only one game”…”dont worry mentality”.

        • therealsince86 says:

I actually don’t buy the bored thing at all. I see a team actually that lacks confidence and presses too much when things get going in the wrong direction. They come up thinking here we go again. Still could very well be because of Willie or lack of leadership.

        • NY Cuban says:

I think both are very real problems. I don’t think they are very cohesive as a team. I don’t know who gets the blame for that, but they seem like individual parts They dont pick each other up. They seem ok with losing. Its just not what I want to see from a team.

        • therealsince86 says:

I think they hate losing and with every down turn it digs a deeper hole in their confidence.

  423. TheHammer says:

Might as well trade Wright at least he might have some protection in any other lineup.

  424. grotesmask says:

And again, outstanding starting pitch…oh, that’s right, it’s the earned run per inning avg.

Hey, for a change the relievers were good, and this time we lost by only one run (okay so we led 3-0, just a technicality).

    It’s only May 7th…

    C’mon Castillo’s just warming up

    • khmustache says:

and beltran will hit his stride
and delgado will find his swing
      and pedro will be back
      and el duque isn’t dead…

  425. playmaker3128 says:

like some mentioned, that last half inning sums up this team right now. They play with a sense of urgency when its to late. After they went down 5-4 they went to sleep until the 9th inning. We let kuo come in and strike out 8 guys in 3 innings! Then against saito we finally get a couple hits. Where is that same sense of urgency. We need to maintain that the whole game.

This team is way to talented to be 1 game over .500. The fact is we can’t even blame it against the NL east as we’ve played pretty well against them. Its a good thing nobodies playing well in the division right now. We’ve been waiting for this team to hit stride for a year and a half now and put everything together, it still hasn’t happened.

    • TheHammer says:

They had two on against Kuo with one out….and they managed to srike out 2 times…I believe that was the 6th. Same sense of urgency or just lack of heart?

      • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

I dunno, Kuo was smokin’ tonight. He pitched an incredibly good 3 2/3 innings and struck out 8. We hit pretty well before he came in and pretty well after he left. We hit not as well when he was in the game.

Is that lack of heart? I think maybe we just ran into some damned good pitching. That wasn’t the whole of the Mets’ problem in this game, I know, but during the innings that Hong-Chih Kuo was pitching, I think they were just outmatched. It happens.

  426. ABQMetsFan says:

I have to fly over 2000 miles to go to a game at Shea. How can I be expected to spend that kind of money to support my team if all they do is phone it in half the time?

I am considering selling the tickets i already have and not seeing Shea one last time.

    • D-Day says:

i know the team is play crappy right now but come on, if youve a fan all your life then you know you have to see at least one more game at shea and say goodbye or youll regret it. my dads been taking me there since i was 5 so i dont care how bad the team might be doing, i gotta see it one more time

  427. NY Cuban says:

Well, the positive I see in this season is that they won’t collapse. They will be nestled comfortably in 2nd place, and hope that the rest of the NL is awful to back into a Wild Card spot.

    • TheHammer says:

Honestly, right now I see the Phillies winning the division again, they have been playing really well. Howard cant hit his way out of a paper bag and they are without jimmy Rollins and still winning regularly. Also lidge hasn’t given up a run in like 15 innnings. The Mets will really need to get their horses going if they are want to keep pace. I fear they just dont have the heart or desire right now.

  428. AlreadyMissShea says:

    WILLIE TIME… COMIN’ UP!

  429. ABQMetsFan says:

We are still only down one run. Is it too early to panic yet?

  430. SayItAintSo says:

what is willie going to say?

    He should say…

    1. THIS WAS AN EMBARASSING LOSS…
    2. WE ARE JUST NOT GOOD RIGHT NOW
    3. I HOPE I DONT GET FIRED YET
    4. WE REALLY REALLY REALLY ARE PATHETIC
    5. I AM TEMPTED TO UNLEASH THE WRATH OFKAHN ON CARLOS CARLOS AND DW…

    He will say:
    .1. Its just one game
    2. nothing to get crazy about
    3. figgy pitched well
    4. we will get rolling again
    5. ryan church stinks for blowing that play, i always knock my best players for no apparent reason… johan, your next
    6. hommina hommina hommina

    • ABQMetsFan says:

Willie should throw a huge fit, call off the post game bull$hit session and knock some heads in the locker room.

    • TheHammer says:

you forgot the catch phrase of the night…” Kuo just got in a nice lil rythm……”

  431. playmaker3128 says:

Also no doubt marlon should have batted there for castillo. I didn’t think willie did anything wrong up until that point. Stupid to bat castillo there. With one swing of that bat marlon is a guy that can give us the lead. The outfield was gonna play shallow anyway against catillo, on a hard hit ball their is no guarantee pagan scores despite his speed and the fact he’s running on contact. Just another great example of willie trusting his veterans way to much. You put your best hitter up right there, and that is marlon anderson.

Ohh and someone needs to tell D wright he can start going the other way again. In his first AB he fouled out yes, but at least he made solid contact. There constantly pitching him away and he’s been way to pull happy.

    • therealsince86 says:

If I am managing the Dodgers there and Anderson PH’s for Castillo then I walk him. Then who is up?

      • TheHammer says:

        EASLEY??

        • therealsince86 says:

So know you have taken the bat out of your best LHPH against a RHP. Besides good or bad, it’s Castillo’s job to figure out a way to get on base there. I could have went either way there. I don’t think it’s a clear cut decision. Obviously now it is but not then.

        • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Plus, Castillo, even with his slump, is batting .231 with a .340 OBP. Anderson’s stats are nearly half that. He hasn’t exactly been hot either. And he’s not much of a second baseman.

Pulling Castillo in favor of Anderson would’ve been a dumb move.

I really don’t get the Castillo hate that seems to permeate here. No, he’s not a slugger, but he never was — that’s not his game. But he’s smart, he plays hard, and he runs damned well for an old guy with bad knees. And, when he’s on his game (which admittedly he hasn’t been much this year), he’s a damned hard out.

      • dykstraw says:

your managing tenure is what’s up if you walk the go-ahead run into scoring position

  432. NY Cuban says:

Willie looks different tonight. Slightly flustered. At least he looks less robotic.

  433. Sasseroni says:

There will never be a time more appropriate or needed than right now to fire Willie. The team needs to wake the players up from his coma inducing ways.

I know that’s harsh, but it’s either now or never. If they wait til June, the team’s probably still at .500 or less and it’ll mean that many less games for the new manager to get things going.

But they won’t do it. It’s not the Wilpon’s or Omar’s style. They’ll wait until it won’t matter.

  434. SayItAintSo says:

    way too many wasted opportunities
    we shouldve scored extra runs
    we gotta start swinging better
figueroa gave up runs with 2 outs
didnt make pitches when he had to
missed way too many opps tonight
    kuo was a bit erratic(???????????????)

not horrible, at least he said several times that they have to hit better…

    • TheHammer says:

He said they have to hit better???? Nice way to point out the obvious! STEAMBOAT WILLIE

  435. Jooztee says:

I was born in 1986 and I’ve been a Mets fan my whole life. I think its outrageous for someone to question my fanhood because I support my team.

This loss crushes me just as much as all of you. But, it crushes me more to see “fans” with such a negative view of their team. I honestly believe the Mets need their fans’ support if they are going to succeed this year. Right now we have a home field disadvantage because of negative people like you who boo the home team. We are not the New York Knicks. We are 1.5 games out of first place with 131 games left. Support your team and you might actually remember why you love this beautiful game of baseball.

    • TheHammer says:

Well, What positive would you take from tonights game? 12 K’s , lack of timely hitting?? What have the Mets shown you lately to be positive about? A throwing error in Arizona? or that 5 hit performance they put on just about on a daily basis

    • ABQMetsFan says:

Hey. I’ve been a fan longer than you. I go to about 20 to 30 games at shea every year and I have to travel over 2000 miles to get there. I never boo my team. I also go on the road to see the mets play (you will see me on tv occasionally being the obnoxious New Yorker on the road). Anybody that knows me will never question my loyalty to this team, but listen man, this is horrible and unacceptable.

In my opinion, this team is worse than the teams from the 70s and early 80s. those clowns were expected to lose 100 games per season. This team has been bought to win and they just aren’t doing that.

I spend a lot of time and money and effort to support my team. Is it too much for me to expect my team to do the same?

  436. trippingac says:

I’m a displaced Mets fan living in Houston, so I have to rely on mlb.tv. Therefore I don’t get the post-game, and it takes sny.tv forever to put the post-game up. Someone please tell me what Willie is saying, how he looks, etc.

    • ABQMetsFan says:

Hey tripp. My suggestion is for you to get DirecTv. They carry SNY.

    • khmustache says:

he looked flustered…but he said the same thing he’s been saying…too many ducks, didn’t take advantage of the opportunities….blah blah blah

      • NYP-BOS-NYP says:

Actually, I thought he seemed a lot more frustrated than he has in previous interviews. He did not say “it’s early, we’ll be fine” or any of that stuff. Maybe that’s a good sign.

  437. NY Cuban says:

    5/7/2007 – Mets 19-11
    5/7/2008 – Mets 16-15

    I’m just saying…

  438. Jooztee says:

They have not been good of late, it is true. But I still love my team and I will always root for them until the last out.

    • khmustache says:

sweet dude…you rule…i’m gonna keep getting angry when they lose a game on a backwards k

      • therealsince86 says:

As you should, but there is a difference between getting mad and completely writing of the season and calling anyone with hope a Yankee fan.

        • AlreadyMissShea says:

Well, gee, I apologize for calling you a Yankee fan. I was going to call you something else, but that’s what came out. I’ll come up with something better next time.

        • ABQMetsFan says:

what’s worse than calling somebody a yankee fan? not much.

        • therealsince86 says:

AMS the original comment that I took objection to tonight and responded in support of another poster was this one.
“i hope we get swept, so at least there is a chance this guy gets canned before june..

swept in LA, and then swept by the nats..

          that would do it..”

You tell me, does that sound like a fan to you? Do you not think that a guy wishing us to lose is a little over the top. Would it be too much that during all of this we could still root for our team? I want Wilie gone but I would never wish losing on the Mets no matter what. If that makes me wrong then so be it.

  439. Church says:

I’ve decided to take a week off from watching the games, and I guess I’m not missing much.

  440. ABQMetsFan says:

Well. we have to try to avoid a sweep tomorrow against their ace and our day-game B line up. Nonetheless, I will be watching.

I remember a time when we didn’t have to hope. We just went in and won series after series. Oh well.

I don’t know about you guys but I can’t take this much longer. This is our last season at shea… This is a very very big deal.. the mentality of the guys in the clubhouse is backwards.. They don’t realize that they are playing for us.. This team is much much bigger than any of these so called superstars. This team will go on and they will be gone.

They better check there attitudes when it comes to how they talk about us.. I personally don’t boo but I can understand why some might. Its sickening to watch this team lay down and die.

  442. AlreadyMissShea says:

Well anyway, as long as people are talking about supporting the team and how often they can go, etc., I’ll just chime in on that.

I’ll get to about 60 games this year. I have a few different plans, go with different people all the time, and sometimes I’ll just buy a ticket on a whim when I feel like going to a game I wasn’t planning on going to that day.

And truthfully, I’ve been in a bad mood all day, and probably haven’t handled it all that great. The point is, all of this stuff about people not supporting the team, and about the boo-birds making the team want to go on the road, I’m going to say one last time that it’s nonsense. Sure, some people are booing, but it’s been blown entirely out of proportion… Most of all by the NY media which needed a story, so they created one.

Put Aaron Heilman in any other ballpark and tell me he wouldn’t have been booed by now. But I never did. People forget that Schoeneweis was also linked to steroids, and maybe some of the boos were for that too. I don’t know. I didn’t do it. People booing Delgado for gettting older or Santana for not having a great start are out of control. But I didn’t do that either.

And neither do most of the fans at Shea. But I’ve seen post after post from people here that have practically blamed the team’s struggles on the people who pay their hard earned money to go to the games. Games the Mets have won more than they’ve lost, incidentally.

Anyway, I like this blog, but I think after seeing so much of the Boo Gate take it over, it would be good to take a break for now. For anyone who can get to Shea this year, please do so. You’ll find that things are much better than have been reported.

Take it easy. I’ll say the same three words I said when I first posted here.

    Let’s Go Mets!

Good post. I think the boo reaction has been much overblown too. I do think however, if we are going to win this season we have to have a home field advantage and so far we do this season. I can’t say as to why we played so poorly last year at Shea only to say that this team lacks confidence, especially at home. Hopefully with a 9-5 record at home this season (I think?) we have started to turn the page there.

Sorry but as a Met’s fan for so long in an area where being a Met’s fan is, well there are none, makes me very combative anytime that someone comes on and just bashes them to the point of wanting them to lose.

I also have been a poster on this site since the first few months it existed. I have watched it change dramatically as far as the type of posters it has attracted. In the begining there were many fans way more knowledgable than I that would debate baseball. The only true always negative guy was Mr. Met. Now I the blog is home to about 1000 posters who come here to vent. Believe it or not over the last few months I have watched the exodus of many of the longtime posters. I miss those guys and long for a day in which every poster on Mets blog supported the Mets.

I should also apologize to you, because while I didn’t agree with your post at the time (and said so), I did not realize that it was in response to someone saying they hoped the Mets would lose.

That line of thinking — that if they get swept this or that will happen and things will get better– has never had any merit. If I would have seen that, I never would have jumped on you.

All the more reason that I think I will take a break for a few days. I may be new to the blog, but this sure has been some time to get started. A little time away couldn’t hurt, because this is supposed to be fun, and tonight sure was not. I don’t know if it’s the up-and-down play, or the perception of the boo-birds taking over Shea, but people who are supposed to all want the same thing are at each others’ throats, and it wasn’t just you and me tonight. Hopefully things will get better soon, and that will stop.

    Thereal,

Now I understand your knee-jerk positivism. Your geography dictates it. I’m with AMS on this, and think his post was spot on. I agree with you, however, that the site has changed. I too remember when Mr. Met was the only downer. Part of it is just increased expectations, which is a good thing because it means a more talented roster.

A larger part – and here is where I fear you just fail to totally grasp the nature of this factor – is that many, many fans who have always been very supportive and positive were deeply, psychically wounded by last season. Fans that were always happy-go-lucky and eternal optimists vis a vis the Mets are now embittered in ways even thy thought would never be possible. And they are stunned when they see other fans who seem to have been able to let last year go so easily. And, honestly, I don’t know what, other than lots and lots of time, can heal that.

I will confess that I am one those fans. I will also confess I sometimes (though less often that you I am sure would think) post comments that even I think are a bit much – but feel so necessary and cathartic after all the bitterness.

None of that means that the newly pessimistic crowd aren’t good fans who were there and were in full throated support during the lean times of the early 60s, much of the 70s and early 80s and the 90s, etc etc. depending on age.

AMS is right, being at each others’ throats is not the answer.

wow, what an awful loss. I passed out when Kuo was pitching and we were up by a run, and just woke up to find out we lost. I don’t understand how a talented team can be so bad with runners in scoring position. I don’t know if it’s heart, lack of desire, bad luck, or whatever, but it’s become pandemic at this point. They just seem to lack the killer instinct to put opposing teams away. I’m a fairly positive Mets fan, and I still believe this team has a lot of good baseball in it, somewhere, but to date, this has been the least enjoyable Mets squad to follow since 2002.

  445. LIMetfan74 says:

This team is just so frustrating to watch! They NEVER get a big hit. Can somebody tell them to take the bat off their shoulders and swing at an 0-2 pitch once in awhile. This is the same crap we saw last year win two loose three. Can somebody tell Beltran to get the sand out of his panties and man up and play a game when his belly hurts him a little bit. I still hope this team can turn it around but I think the saying goes”Its getting early late”.

  446. edwin nieves says:

Why is it that Mets pitchers seem to give up hits and runs with two outs? They quickly get two outs then implode. You see it coming everytime. Its fustrating to watch.
